The Kazekage eyed Shinken as he entered the office alone. He had always been fond of the boy, but it was with a heavy heart that he came to realize that Michio was becoming a detriment to him, rather quickly. Roku stood next to his desk. It always surprised him how quickly the Chuunin could get to and from places. He really had a future as an ANBU operative if he continued this way. Turning his attention back on Shinken, Jin spoke.
"Listen, Shinken. It appears i was wrong for pairing you with Hanako. Roku tells me how she provoked the fight between you and how you ended it. I commend you for defending yourselves, however," he sighed shaking his head, and steeled his features, "Taking out Hanako reduced the village's strength as she's one of our most skilled Jounin. And the fact that we're currently low on medical supplies means that it will take her longer to bounce back than it normally would. I have sent some other Genin to recover the mushrooms while i decided what i would do with you two." He stopped to pace back and forth a few times. "Shinken Katsuna, i hereby confine you and Michio Kaguya to house arrest. You will be unable to leave the village, or part take in any missions until I say so. Also Roku will keep tabs on you just to make sure you don't sneak off. Otherwise you are free to do whatever you want. Let us hope this doesn't happen again. You are dismissed."

Shinken Katsuna and Michio Kaguya

Unable to go on missions or leave the village thread until Monday Dec 5th, 12AM EST

Michio laid in the hall outside on the bench Shinken had set him upon and though he was feeling the energy flowing to his body again and the tingling numbness fade, he decided that it would be best to remain where he was. For some reason, they were in trouble for showing up a ninja who had no business being of the rank she was. It was a dishonor to the village for someone as immature as Hanako to be a Jounin, and it irritated him to no end that the end result of the Kazekage's incompetent mistake was now their burden to carry.

“Shinken Katsuna, I hereby confine you and Michio Kaguya to house arrest. You are not allowed to leave the village or take part in any missions. Roku here will keep an eye on both of you to make sure you don't disobey me or my decree. You are free to train as you see fit. Don't let something like this happen again. Dismissed!”

Michio gritted his teeth and glared at the ceiling. 'That b*****d!' he thought angrily, his fists clenching as he processed what the Kazekage had just ordered. 'That worthless excuse for a Jounin loses control of her own anger, puts me in a disabled state of body, and when the Kazekage is forced to admit his own failings we're the ones to be punished?! Now I don't blame Shinken's brother for wanting to destroy this village's hierarchy. This leader can't bear to see himself as anything close to an incompetent fool who is only going to destroy this village.' At that moment, Michio made a decision, one that would lead him to a dark place from which he would not return.

The Kaguya sat up on the bench with some effort, then stood on his feet. It took a great amount of energy to keep on his feet but he managed. 'Stupid girl...' He said to himself, then looked to his right as he saw Shinken coming back from the main office. He nodded at his teammate, both in acknowledgment and to let him know that Michio had heard everything. Behind him, Michio saw the Kazekage walk out of the office and turn to the stairs. Michio watched him closely as he moved to ascend, but the Kazekage stopped at the bottom step and looked directly at Michio. Knowing he was watching, the Kazekage gave Michio a smirk of satisfaction and walked up the steps. Michio scowled and turned away from the main office's entrance and followed Shinken out of the door.

Once outside and a few streets away, Michio finally spoke. “Shinken, I'm going to head home for the night. Even though I can finally walk, I still don't feel so well, but I think it's something I can just sleep off. I'll see you in the morning.” After telling Shinken to sleep well, he parted ways from his team member and began making his way home. He traveled from alleyway to alleyway, attempting to take a shortcut, though he avoided some particularly dark alleys as to not end up getting mugged or worse. Passing by closed stores and houses with their lights still on, Michio reflected on what had happened during the past couple of days. The fight with Sayomi in the academy, the duel with Shinken, the battle between he and the three weapon wielders, his stay at the hospital, his fight with Hanako, and now his unfair punishment. 'I don't know if I can do this.... not under his rule. Not while he has control of whether or not I progress as a shinobi..' he told himself, 'I hate him, and he hates me. My attitude may have upset the instructors, but in the end it's up to the Kazekage whether or not I pass the academy. I'm nineteen, half a decade older than anyone else in the class and why? Because that stupid man can't bear the thought of me becoming skilled enough and powerful enough to stop him from hurting anyone else like that. He's scared of what I can do, where I come from. And he always will be. There's no changing someone as malicious and tyrannical as he is.'

Michio continued walking, still lost in his thoughts, and wasn't paying attention when he walked directly down one of the particularly dark alleyways. He made it halfway down the shortcut before a shadow stepped in front of him a few feet ahead. The movement snapped him out of his deep thinking and he stopped walking. 'Damn it all to hell...' he thought, then turned to go back the way he came and saw that two silhouettes were blocking his path. 'And we're doing this now...'

“Kaguya Michio.” the person who'd previously been ahead of him called out. The voice was female from what he could tell, and he turned to face her.

“Yeah? Who's asking?” he responded, focusing his eyes to try and see what she looked like.

“One of Hanako's sisters. Did you really think you could beat up and hospitalize the youngest of our clan and get away with it?” She called, and the two behind him moved quickly and quickly gripped him by an arm each, kicking the back of his knees to force him down. He struggled against their grip but to no avail. He felt his bones shifting as new claws created themselves in his forearms, but he looked up and thought he saw the silhouette of someone sitting atop a building, watching the scene below unfold. He thought he saw the visual of a man with six arms and scowled. 'Roku...' he said in his head and stopped the extension of his claws, making them sit in his forearms. 'This is on you and your worthless leader.'

The woman ahead walked closer to him and stepped into the only light in the entirety of the alleyway. She was quite beautiful and graceful in the way she walked, and under any other circumstances she might have caught enough of his attention for him to make a pass at her, but right here, right now, there was no desire to do so. “What do you want from me?” he asked, and she thrust two fingers into his left shoulder where the pectoral met the bicep, the nerves going numb once again. He grunted and bent his head low, then looked up into her eyes, which were pure white with the veins on either side of her head bulging and strained.

“I want to see you dead. But since I'm not looking to get a bounty put on my head, I'll settle for beating the snot out of you for now.” she said simply, using a hand to flip her hair over her shoulder. She slapped him across the face and his head turned abruptly. It hung there for a second, but then he spit on the ground at her feet and looked up with defiance.

“Did your baby sister tell you that she attacked me with the intent of enslaving me under threat of death? Or did she make up some sob story about how two men overpowered her and broke her body to the point of no repair?” He bared his teeth at her. “Do you even care?” The Hyuuga hit him again, this time a solid punch to his jaw which caught him by surprise. His head thrust to the side even faster than it had when she'd slapped him, and he grunted from the sudden pain. She hit him again, and again, and again until blood finally spurted from his mouth and sprayed on the ground. She then stepped back and kicked him under the jaw, snapping his head back. Michio's vision blurred as his neck rolled to allow his head to hang limp. She kicked him again, this time in the diaphragm and forced the air from his lungs.

Gasping for oxygen, he coughed and groaned from the beating. She kicked him again and again, strikes slamming into his ribs, stomach, the right side of his jaw, a Yuhp Kick to his face, causing his nose to begin bleeding profusely as the cartilage snapped from the strike, and finally a sharp rising kick to his genitals. He cried out in pain but was quickly silenced by one of the women holding his arms by covering his mouth.

“You haven't even begun to feel the pain I'm going to cause you.” the attacking Hyuuga woman told him, and punched him in the face a few more times. “You're going to pray for death, but it will not come. Only the agony of your beating.” She kicked him in the chest, and he grunted from the impact, tears unintentionally beginning to form in Michio's eyes. The pain was intense and he was only experiencing this so that Shinken wouldn't be caught up in any more of his problems. Another punch to his head, a kick to the ribs, and an elbow to the gut were the next attacks Michio felt on his trembling body as he struggled to stay conscious.

He hung limp and it was now taking the women some effort to hold him upright before one of them let go and the other did so as well, forcing him to fall face first into the dirt.

“Pick him up. I'm not done with him.”
the attacker ordered, and he was hoisted up again. She crouched low to meet what gaze he had left as he breathed heavily in her face. She reared her arm back, two fingers pointed, and lashed out. The last thing he saw out of his left eye, which had not been swollen shut, was her fingers diving. What followed was immediate blindness, followed by an intense, sharp pain that shot through his eyeball and into his brain. He screamed and fell backwards, bringing the two women with him as he fell to the ground. Michio panted as the pain in his eye receded and finally stopped, but though he could tell he opened it, no sight was to be had. This Hyuuga, Hanako's older sister, had blinded him.

Suddenly a voice rang out from the end of the alleyway. “What's going on here?” It was a female voice, and it sounded very familiar. It took Michio a second to recognize it as Sayomi's voice.

“Justice.” the Hyuuga woman said, and axe kicked Michio in the stomach as he lay on his back, forcing him to curl up and turn to his side. He began coughing as he gasped for air once more, and it was all his body could take. He fell unconscious.

Michio awoke in the morning to find that he couldn't see anything except a blurry white. It took him a second to realize that the white color was a cloth that was placed over his right eye. He tried to move his arms to his face but they were heavy, though that didn't stop him. What did was a hand suddenly grabbing his left wrist and gently pulling it back down. “Michio... can you hear me?” the voice of Sayomi spoke softly to him, and he nodded, though it hurt to do so.

“Where am I?”
he asked, and Sayomi pursed her lips before replying.

“After I found you last night, I brought you back to my house. It was the closest place I could bring you to start treating your wounds. You took quite a beating last night... how did they get the better of you?” she asked, and Michio half groaned, half grunted as he cleared his throat and began to speak.

“After we left the apartment last night and went to see the Kazekage, he introduced us to our Jounin. She was an unruly, power hungry child by the name of Hyuuga Hanako. Shortly after giving us a mission, Hanako ordered us to meet her at the training grounds where she proceeded to beat on Shinken, then turned her attention to me and used.... whatever that technique was... to paralyze me by striking with just the tips of her fingers. She started to go too far and Shinken stepped up again, utterly destroying her capability to lead the team and putting her in the hospital. After which, the Kazekage's pet spider guy arrested us for assaulting a high ranking member of the village despite the fact that it was exactly what she ordered us to do and we got a temporary ban on completing missions and leaving the village. I was on my way home when I was jumped by those women for my part in the fight. To keep Shinken from getting in trouble as well, I didn't fight back. The last thing I need is to be responsible for him getting his title as a shinobi revoked for my actions, even if it was self defense. Speaking of those women, what happened to them? And what happened to the six-armed man who was waching the fight?”

Sayomi removed her hand, then began applying a cold compress to his right eye in order to reduce the swelling. “There wasn't any six-armed man nearby, but those women took off as soon as they saw that I wasn't going to. Speaking of Shinken, by the way, I was able to reach him in time for the women to not jump him as well. He's in the other room. Did you want to see him?”

Michio nodded and heard her get up, but he reached out and grabbed Sayomi's hand despite the fact that he couldn't see. “Sayomi-chan...” She stopped and looked at him.

“What?” she asked, looking at the badly beaten shinobi with soft eyes.

“Thank you.”

The previous night had been a real s**t show. Forget the fact that his own jounin had attacked him. The Kazekage had banned them from performing missions, and put them under house arrest. Not only that but Michio had been ambushed and assaulted, and the same thing would have happened to him if it weren’t for Sayomi. Who he really felt he had to apologize to. She was just the end result of a broken system that needed to be torn down and rebuilt from the ground up.

Shinken was in the same house as Michio for multiple reasons. He wanted to make sure his friend was alright after taking such a horrible beating, but this place was also a safe house. Since they weren’t allowed to fight back against the Hyuuga clan and they were actively looking for the two Gennin. The young uchiha took a bowl of instant ramen and poured hot water into the styrofoam container. While he was waiting for it to cook he set it down on a table and headed over to see Michio. The Kaguya was in really rough shape.

“I’m surprised that Roku guy didn’t step in to protect you. So much for keeping an eye on us.” Shinken said bitterly. The six armed ninja would get his comeuppance when the young Uchiha finally took the mantle of Kage.

“Are you ok? You look like you just took on the fifth Kazekage.” Shinken said. His voice was filled with concern for the Kaguya. He didn’t care that they had been punished for their actions. He would do the same thing all over again. He had been in the right to defend his friend. It was Hanako who should have been punished.

Michio heard the comment Shinken had made about Roku not intervening to stop the Hyuuga kunoichi trio and painfully shook his head. “Why should he care? His mission is to make sure we don't do anything illegal, not stop anyone else from committing crimes. You heard the way that he shot down your attempt to reason with him. That guy's only focus is on his mission, other factors be damned. Short of us actually about to be killed, I don't think the Kazekage's pet would do anything. And even then I'm not confident that he'd act.”

Michio sighed and laid his head back on the pillow, closing his swollen eye and taking a deep breath. “Man, I could use a cigarette.” The Kaguya thought long and hard about what he'd like to do to the six armed disgrace to the title of shinobi and it gave him some relief.

“No smoking until after you're healed, Michio-kun.” Sayomi told him, her hand on his wrist again. She squeezed gently and stood up to leave the room.

Michio listed to Shinken's question and grunted. “Feels like I got trapped in a Sand Coffin. My ribs are probably broken, my nose definitely is, I can barely see out of my right eye, and that Hyuuga woman blinded me in my left eye. I'd say I'm pretty worse for wear.”

“There's gotta be something we can do to get you back into good shape.” Shinken muttered, and Michio grunted again.

“Shisara. She's got medical jutsu training. It won't heal my left eye and it won't make the pain go away, but at least it'll repair the damage to my body. We need to get to her...” and he struggled to get up, taking some effort and making some groaning and grunts, “...but without making ourselves a target for those Hyuuga wenches. And you'll have to either carry me or support me as I walk. Carrying me would be faster. And we'll need some back up.”

He slowly pushed his legs off of the bed and as each one went to hang, he hissed from the pain. Moving his abdomen sucked as well, as he was sure that both of his ribs were cracked from the amount of pain his ribs were signaling to his brain. “Sayomi!” he called, then took deep breaths. His diaphragm was bruised as well.

Sayomi emerged quickly from the other room and saw that he was sitting up. “What are you doing? You need to rest!” she exclaimed, and he shakily held a hand up.

“I'll rest when we get to Shisara. I can't risk the Hyuuga women coming here and it'll take me days to recover, maybe even weeks, if I stay here. But we're going to need some backup just in case those Hyuuga come back. I can't afford for them to blind my other eye.”

Sayomi started to protest, but Michio looked her dead in the eye through his swollen one. “Sayomi-chan, please... I can't be a victim again. Kage's decree or not, I can't be sure they won't try to kill me next time, and I will kill them before they kill me. But I can't do that if I'm incapable of even moving without intense pain.” Sayomi was displeased and stared at him for several long seconds, but finally nodded.

“I hope you know what you're doing, Michio-kun. I don't want to see you dead.” she said, and looked to Shinken. “You either. You keep him and yourself as safe as you can. If even one gets away from me, don't try to fight. Just run. I'll handle it as soon as I'm able to.”

Shinken nodded back to Sayomi. She was taking a really big risk by running interference. If those Hyuuga decided to turn on her she would be surrounded without any allies to help her. He hated leaving a fellow ninja in a situation like that, but Michio was right. The longer that he was out of commission the more likely they were to be caught off guard and Taken out. Even the sharingan wouldn’t save them from a whole group of Hyuuga. He remembered how heavy his teammate was and wished the Kaguya would cut down on the ramen. With a sigh Shinken bent down and grabbed his teammate’s arm, before hefting him onto his shoulders.

“God damnit man. You need to lose some weight.” The young uchiha said as he strained underneath the Kaguya’s deceptively heavy body.

“I’m not fat I’m just big boned!” Michio said feeling slightly offended. Shinken did his best not to jostle his friend too much as he got him settled in on his shoulders. When he was confident he had the Kaguya in the best possible position he took a few steps toward the door. He could feel Michio tensing up in response to the pain of being bounced around. Shinken wished he could have moved his friend without causing him any pain, but he knew it was only going to get worse. If he had to run from the Hyuuga’s it was going to be an incredibly painful experience for the Kaguya.

“Ok. Are you ready Sayomi? Are you sure you want to do this? They could kill you.” He said. His voice was filled with actual concern. After what she had done for him last night his previous judgements about the Chuunin had been stripped away. He saw that she really was a good person underneath the gritty hardened shell that she had been forced to take on to survive in this broken country.

The Chunnin nodded in affirmation at Shinken. She had a cold hard look in her eyes. She was ready to do this, even to give her life for two gennin who had humiliated her in the past. Sayomi really was a symbol of Shinobi strength. Real Shinobi strength. The kind that ended wars, not the kind that started them.

Without saying another word to each other the three ninja set out onto the streets to make their way to Shisara in hopes that her medical expertise would be able to heal Michio. Shinken used his eyes to detect any details that were off in the surroundings. Seeing that the way was clear for now he nodded again at Sayomi and slowly began to make his way down one of the main streets.

The choice to use the main streets during the middle of the day was a strategic one. If there were too many innocent bystanders around he hoped the Hyuuga clan wouldn’t be bold enough to strike. Even if they did strike there would be plenty of witnesses to their crimes which could end up putting their clan in disgrace. Shinken could only hope that those two deterrents were enough to keep the clan off of his back while he moved his friend.

For a while it seemed that everything was going according to plan. All of the bystanders seemed to be keeping the Hyuuga away. Either that or they hadn’t yet located Michio and Shinken. All of that changed however when they were forced to take a back alley turn off. Shinken immediately felt a change in the air. Suddenly it was deadly quiet, and there were no people around. Scanning the area with his sharingan he noticed subtle things that were out of place and cursed. It was an ambush. The young Uchiha gave Sayomi a look that said trouble was about to start. The Chuunin looked back at him and stepped in front of the two gennin.

“Get out of the way. We only want those two.” A voice said as two Hyuuga stepped out of the shadows. Shinken knew there was at least one other Hyuuga hiding somewhere in the alley though. He could try and make a break for it, but that wouldn’t be good for Michio’s health. Climbing up the walls wasn’t an option, and he was quickly running out of time to make a desicion.

“I’m not going anywhere! You and your clan are out of line!” Sayomi said as she reached into her pouch of ninja tools. Shinken was surprised when he saw a purple orb in her hand. She threw it to the ground and suddenly the alleyway was filled with smoke. Taking advantage of the momentary surprise Shinken charged down the alley way and pushed his way through the two Hyuuga blocking the way. He was sure they were going to catch up with him, but he had to get to Shisara. Before they could give chase Sayomi put herself between the two gennin and their Hyuuga attackers.

Shinken didn’t waste a moment of time as he made his way towards Michio’s apartment at top speed. He could feel his friend’s bones grinding against each other with every step, and he wished he could have been more gentle, but it was a race now, and it wasn’t one that shinken could lose.

After a few minutes of running the young Uchiha finally arrived at Michio’s apartment. He was exhausted and he was sure his friend was in agony, but they had finally made it.

“Shisara! Michio needs your help!” Shinken yelled as he started to bring his friend up the stairs. He really hoped that the female ninja was home, or all of this effort would have been for nothing. When he got to the top of the stairs Shinken opened the door and walked inside. Seeing the familiar couch he let out a sigh of relief. He could finally get this heavy bag of bones off of his shoulder. Not that he didn’t care about Michio, but the guy weighed a ton. As carefully as he could he set the Kaguya down on the couch and waited for Shisara to show up.

Shisara ran from her room to the living room and saw as Shinken laid Michio on their couch. “Oh my god! What happened!?” she cried out, rushing to Michio's side and kneeling, tears beginning to form at the corners of her eyes.

“Got jumped by some Hyuuga after I kicked the crap out of their little sister.”
he groaned, his body now extra sore from the journey. “They broke my ribs, my nose, probably cracked my jaw from how much it hurts to talk, kicked me in the groin, blinded me in my left eye, and nearly did the same thing in my right eye.”

Shinken raised his hand and muttered, "Actually... that was my fault..."

Shisara gasped and sat back on her heels. “How could they do something like that? And why did you beat up their little sister?”

“I'll tell you more later. Right now, I need you to use your medical skills and fix me up as best as you can.” he growled at her, more from the pain than from being irritable, though he was definitely that as well. Being in a constant state of agony where even breathing sent crippling jolts of pain through your body would do that to even the best trained monk in the world. Shisara nodded and pushed off of the couch, shifting Michio's weight and making him hiss with the sudden pain.

“Sorry sorry!” she cried out and dashed from the living room to her's and then returning with a small kit. She opened it up after she laid it on the floor and grabbed a small round container. Popping it open, she revealed a ton of small black spheres. She poured a couple out and then closed the cap with a loud snapping sound.

“What are those for?”Shinken asked as she placed them into Michio's mouth.

“Chewable anesthetic pills. Even though I'm about to heal him, it's not going to be pleasant. These pills will numb his entire body and make it so that he can't move other than breathing.” She explained, then helped Michio chew them by moving his jaw so that he wouldn't have to. After some saliva had added itself to the compounds, which tasted like rat feces, Michio swallowed and as soon as it slid down his throat, he could feel the numbing agent beginning to work on his nerves.

Michio started to not feel the pain anymore, and it was quite a relief. “Ahhhh.... heeling etter ah-red-ee.” Shisara couldn't help but smile at Michio's butchered speech as she removed the gauze cloth from his eyes, gasping at the sight of how badly his eyes were screwed up and grabbed another container, opening it. She placed two fingers inside the cylinder and began to apply a cream to the swollen skin on Michio's right eyelids. “Aah I-nda hurns.” Michio said, his tongue now becoming numb enough that coherent speech was going to be a problem.

“That's because it's an ointment that relieves swelling. What you're feeling is the release of blood in the veins of your eyelids. That'll continue to burn until either the blood flow corrects itself or I wipe it away. “ She replied, heading over to the kitchen to get a rag to wipe the ointment off of her fingers.

A noise erupted from outside and Shisara looked to Shinken. “Would you check that out? I would but I've got bigger things to worry about right now.” Shinken nodded and hurried to the door, heading outside.

Shisara turned back to Michio and looked very grim. “Okay Michio-kun, this is going to suck. Big time. Even though you can't feel any pain right now, you will. The anesthetic only works on existing pain, not new pain. You won't be able to move, but you're going to feel everything I'm about to do.”

In any other situation with any other person, those words would make Michio worry, but he tried to nod. Unsuccessful, he blinked his right eye the best he could and then closed it. “Oo Eh” he muttered, the best he could do to say do it. Shisara nodded and knelt next to him and placed an arm underneath him. She slowly sat him up with some effort from her as his entire body was dead weight. Once he was leaning forward, she grabbed his vest and pulled it off of him, tossing it to the floor next to her. She then grabbed the bottom of his shirt and started to lift it up, blushing as she did so. As she pulled it off of him, she stood up to gain the proper altitude to finish removing his long sleeved shirt and tossed it on top of Michio's vest, then laid him back down.

“Alright... here we go...”
she told him and made the Ox and Tiger hand seals, then focused her chakra until it coated her hands in a dim green light like a pair of radioactive gloves. She started with his ribs, as they were the biggest target, her hands only inches from his skin. Michio groaned and grunted as the muscles around his ribs began to mend themselves. Muscle fibers that had been torn began to grow to accommodate the gap and seal together, and the chakra being forced into his rib cage gave his natural Kaguya bloodline the strength it needed to heal the bones underneath. Despite being of the Kaguya bloodline, Michio had previously been unable to heal his own bones because of a severe lack of chakra. Even though he'd slept for hours, it was not an undisturbed sleep. Much like a person with sleep apnea is constantly woken up without becoming conscious, the pain from breathing kept him from truly sleeping and as a result, he was not able to recover any chakra from his rest.

Once he stopped grunting and groaning, she moved to his chest, which had a footprint shaped bruise directly in the center. The bruise flared and Michio hissed and whined as the veins stopped being swelled up and blood began to flow properly again. The sternum underneath, which had been cracked from the impact, did the same as his ribs; using the chakra from Shisara's jutsu to mend together in a rather painful fashion. It wasn't a natural healing and would likely leave a crack shaped scar under his skin for the rest of his life.

From there, she moved to his bruised stomach, the same burning sensation flaring up as his abdominal muscles began to seal together as well as reduce in swelling. Then she moved to his right eye, accelerating the healing that the ointment had done and he cried out in sudden pain as the chakra was being pushed directly through the eyelid and into his eyeball. “AHH AHH AHHH!” he complained, tears starting to flow from the corner of his eye and down the side of his head.

“I'm sorry, I know. This hurts a lot.” she told him sympathetically, but continued to hold her right hand over his eye until the bruising had faded. He groaned in protest but once she moved her hand away, he opened his eye and looked at her with a mixture of appreciation and disdain. He was very grateful for the healing she was doing, but he definitely knew that some part of Shisara was enjoying the moment in which she didn't even have to tell him 'I told you so' regarding the trouble he'd gotten himself into.

She sat on the couch and smiled at him, then leaned close, placing her hands on either side of his jaw and he once again began whining as the bruises faded and the fractures began closing up, although this time she was touching his skin. Unable to do anything but look up at her with his right eye, he watched her intently as the green aura faded from her hands. She stared back into his eyes and then leaned forward, planting a gentle kiss on his forehead.

“Michio-kun, you're fully healed now. I'm going to give you the counter agent to the anesthetic, but I need you to promise me something.” she said to him, and he looked directly into her eyes as she rested her forehead against his.

“Hm?” he hummed in a monotone, less of a question than a prompting. Her lips inches from his, she whispered.

“Please be more careful next time. I can't promise I'll always be there to do this for you.” And with that, she pulled away and went back to her medical kit, unscrewing the cap from a small bottle and squeezing the top to pull a murky white fluid into the pipette. She placed the small glass tube onto his tongue past his lips and squeezed the rubber cap to release the liquid down his throat. It pooled at the back of Michio's mouth until he could feel his throat muscles again. He swallowed finally and felt his throat become almost instantly better. It was only a matter of seconds before he could move his head and jaw again and he turned his head to Shisara, who was rolling the kit up.

“I promise.” he told her, and she stopped and looked at him.

“What?” she asked and sat back on her heels again, her eyes slightly widened.

“I promise to be more careful. I know I don't act like it and I don't say it much, but I do appreciate your presence in my life. Thank you.”

She smiled and tears began forming in her eyes. “Oh Michio-kun...”

“Shisara-chan?” he raised an eyebrow at her and smiled, “Are you leaking?”

“You're so stupid.” She laughed and punched him in the arm.

“Ow ow ow!” he groaned and she cried out in surprise.

“Oh no! I'm sorry! It was a reflex!”

A couple of minutes went by as the counter agent worked on the rest of his nerves and he slowly sat up, not wanting to risk injuring himself again. Michio put his legs over the side of the couch and leaned back, taking in a deep breath before exhaling. He still couldn't see out of his left eye and he reached up to touch the skin underneath it.

“That Hyuuga woman needs to be brought to justice.” he decided, but Shisara, who had gone to put the kit away, returned and went to the kitchen.

“She will be, either by the Kage himself or by the head of her estate. You need to rest.” she told him, bringing him the bowl of Ramen he'd missed out on the previous night.

“Shisara-chan, you don't understand. She attacked me. She blinded me. But she did not kill me. That's the last mistake she'll ever make.”

“Only a minute in and you're already thinking of breaking your promise, huh?”

Michio scowled and placed his head in his hands. “You're right, I'm sorry. It's just.... none of this is my fault, but it's me who has to deal with it. It's not fair.”

Shisara smiled at him and placed a hand on his shoulder, “Michio-kun, you know that life's not fair. People aren't fair. But whatever happened to cause this is out of your hands now.”

“Yeah, I know. It's still frustrating, you know? I get attacked by my team's Jounin, defend myself, get punished for overcoming the assault by the Kazekage, and then get nearly killed for doing exactly what I've been ordered to. This whole week has been nothing but a series of bad circumstances and it's almost more than I can bear.”

Another noise erupted from outside, this time louder than the last. Shisara and Michio looked to each other and he set down the ramen on the floor and rose to his feet as fast as he could. Together, they exited the apartment to find that there was a scuffle out front between Sayomi and Shinken versus three Hyuuga women, but a lone man stood between both parties. He was dressed in a long white Yukata that had a robe hanging over the top and down his back. Long black hair flowed from his head that was closed together at the bottom by a white hairband. “Enough! Shinako, Monako, Yoko! Your younger sister made her decision and paid the price. These men have already seen their punishment for their trespasses. You have yet to see yours. Return to the Hyuuga compound immediately and await your judgment.”

The older man must have been of higher stature in the Hyuuga clan for him to be able to give them such an order, because from what Michio could tell, they were scared of this older man, because they all nodded and bowed to him, and then took off running from the courtyard of Michio's apartment. The man turned back to Shinken and Sayomi. “I apologize for the trouble that my children have caused you. Though they are adults, they have still not learned to distance passion from vengeance. I must go, but I hope the next time we meet it will be on better terms.” He bowed to Shinken, then to Sayomi who was looking pretty worse for wear, then as he noticed Michio and Shisara, he bowed to them as well. And faster than any of them could see, likely even Shinken, the man was gone, leaving an extremely shallow circular indentation in the dirt of the courtyard.

When Shinken heard the noise outside he knew it couldn’t be good. He ran down the stairs and headed out the door. When he arrived he saw Sayomi running from 3 female Hyuuga. The same ones from the alleyway. He cursed under his breath. He couldn’t fight them, and he couldn’t save Sayomi. That six armed b*****d of a ninja would have him stripped of his status as a gennin in a heartbeat. Or was there a way he could save her? If he drew their attention to him he might be able to outrun them. Even if he couldn’t, at least Sayomi wouldn’t get hurt because of his mistakes.

“HEY! Over here! I’m the one who put Hanako in the hospital. You want to kick someone’s a** over it? Then come and get me!” Shinken shouted as he desperately looked around for somewhere to run. He didn’t even have time to activate his sharingan before he heard one of the Hyuuga women yell.

“That’s him! He’s mine! You two take care of this b***h.” The woman growled angrily. Shinken could feel the anger coming off of her even from across the courtyard. This probably wasn’t the best idea, and he had the feeling that if Sayomi wasn’t so busy trying not to get killed that she would have called him an idiot for revealing himself.

In a matter of seconds the older Hyuuga was on him. He thought he recognized her as Yoko, one of the main branch’s eldest daughters. She had been a ninja for a while before she retired a couple of years ago. Shinken’s brother had gone on a few missions with her before he left the village. She didn’t wait for any kind of response from the Young uchiha and landed a solid blow to his midsection.

Shinken stumbled backward in a coughing fit. He couldn’t afford to keep getting hit like that. In fact he had no idea how he was going to survive this encounter. She was fast. Maybe even too fast for his sharingan. Still he activated it anyway, hoping it would make some kind of difference. When Yoko advanced again she was full of hate and anger. It made her form less precise, but she was still a deadly opponent. Maybe if Shinken could just buy some time someone would come to help. He knew that it was a nearly non-existent chance. The people of this village prefered to keep the their heads down. They didn’t really care what happened to other people unless they were friends or family.

When the Hyuuga got within striking range Shinken did his best to read her movements. She was faster than Hanako, and even though he could predict where she was going to strike he couldn’t get out of the way fast enough. Her strike found its mark on his right shoulder, throwing him off balance. Doing the only thing he could think of he threw himself back into a cartwheel using the momentum of her first strike to help him avoid the second. She was too fast for him though. Even though he had managed to avoid the first follow up attack, she was able to adjust and strike a pressure point on his calf. Waves of pain shot up his leg as the muscle began to cramp.

Shinken cursed internally. She must have been a medical ninja. That was going to make surviving that much harder. When his weight came down on the leg that had been struck the young Uchiha’s jaw snapped taught. The pain was incredible. It was like the more he tried to use the leg the worse it got. Still he knew he was going to have to fight through it if he wanted to protect Michio.

Shinken caught a glance of Sayomi’s fight with the other two Hyuuga and he cringed internally. They were throwing her around like a ragdoll. Each blow sent her tumbling in another direction. They wouldn’t give her even a moment to catch her breath. With his enhanced sight he could see blood trickling down from the corner of her mouth. He wasn’t sure if the blood was from being hit in the face, or from some kind of internal injury, but he knew she wasn’t going to last much longer under that kind of punishment.

The young Uchiha’s attention was brought back to his own fight when Yoko advanced on him again. This time she lead in with a low kick aimed at Shinken’s right knee. It seemed like she was trying to cripple him so he couldn’t fight back. Even if he could fight back the young gennin wasn’t sure he would be able even land a hit on the Hyuuga. With all of the explosive speed he could muster Shinken leapt back away from his quickly advancing opponent. He quickly found that he had made a grave error as he was met with another palm thrust to the chest. Having no way to slow himself down the young Uchiha was sent flying into the sandstone wall of the courtyard. He hit the stone with a bone jarring thud.

As he felt the wind fly from his lungs Shinken pushed off of the wall, rolling to his feet despite the waves of pain washing over his body. As he did so the Hyuuga slammed her palm into the section of wall the Uchiha had just been in front of. Her palm left a sizable semi spherical depression in the wall, and the young gennin couldn’t help but thank his lucky stars he had been smart enough to keep moving.

Shinken lungs ached and burned as he tried desperately to force himself to suck in air. His diaphragm had been partially collapsed when he struck the wall. His muscles were screaming for oxygen but still he didn’t give in. Despite all of the pain he was still able to stand, and when the Hyuuga came at him a fourth time, he did his best to dodge out of the way. Yoko launched a flurry of three palm strikes followed by a kick. Shinken was able to parry the three palm strikes, though each strike rattled the bones in his arms, but the kick struck him squarely in the ribs. He slid sideways a few feet and caught another glance at Sayomi. She was in really bad shape.

The female Chuunin was covered in bruises and could barely stand up. He legs were shaking and one of her arms was limp at her side. Shinken wished that he could step in and help her, but even if he could fight back his hands would already be full just trying to survive Yoko’s onslaught.

As the Hyuuga continued her combination of attacks Shinken saw her forming her fingers into striking points and knew what was coming next. He didn’t know if he could dodge the sixty four palms technique. Not if it was being performed by someone as fast as Yoko was. His assumption was proven right as he felt the sharp sting of two tenketsu being struck before he could even move. Still he had a chance to get out of the way before she struck all sixty four points. He pushed what chakra he could into his right foot and launched himself backward onto the wall of the apartment complex, but not before he felt another two of his chakra points go numb.

“When I’m through with you, you won’t be able to cast a jutsu to save your life. I’m going to end your career as a ninja right here, right now!” Yoko shouted as she dashed up the wall after Shinken. The young Uchiha cursed again. It was getting harder and harder to use his chakra. He could even feel his grip on the building slipping. As soon as the Hyuuga stepped within striking range Shinken again pushed all of the chakra he could into his feet. It was considerably less this time, but combined with the power of his leg muscles he was able to jump over Yoko’s head and back into the courtyard.

Shinken felt like he was playing a high stakes game of keep away. Not only did he have to try and avoid Yoko’s attacks without striking back, he also had to try and keep the damage to the apartment complex to a minimum. For a moment the young Uchiha wondered if this was what it felt like to be on a high rank mission, but he shook the thought from his head as he dashed out to where Sayomi was. Now she was on her knees only being held up by one of her two attackers holding her by the hair. The situation was getting worse by the minute. For a moment Shinken thought this might actually be where he died. That his dreams would go unfulfilled. But he steeled his will and gritted his teeth. He wasn’t beaten yet.

“Leave her alone! It’s me you want!” Shinken said as he confronted the other two women. They looked at him and then back to the battered and broken Sayomi, as if considering what he said. After a moment they dropped her limp body to the ground.

“You’re right!” They said in unision. Now the young Uchiha knew he had no chance, but if he was going to go out, it was going to be protecting someone. With steel in his eyes he faced off against the three Hyuuga. Immediately he felt another sharp burning sensation as one of his tenketsu was struck. The three women circled him as if they were sharks. They were playing with him now. They wanted him to suffer as long as possible. That was fine by the Uchiha, the longer he suffered the more time Michio had to heal, and to escape. As he felt another sharp jolt of pain followed by numbness Shinken heard Sayomi’s voice.

“Shinken...no…” She whimpered. The young Uchiha did his best to muster a smile for her. He was going to face his fate with dignity and honor. Traits these Hyuuga seemed to lack. He let out a cry and dropped to one knee as he felt them strike a point in the back of his leg. The followed by striking two points in his left arm which burned intensely and then went limp. Still the Uchiha’s will held firm.

“Is… That… All you’ve… got?” He said between deep heavy breaths. He began to push himself to his feet again, but was struck in the lower back causing him to slump over. He had to give Michio enough time to go get help. That was their only chance now. With all of the will power he could muster Shinken brought himself up to his feet.

“You… can do better than that… Can’t you?” He said as he looked Yoko in the eye defiantly. The Hyuuga woman smiled at him, but it wasn’t a smile of warmth. It was a cold and twisted smile that spoke of evil intentions.

“You have no idea the hell we’re going to put you through.” She said as she struck three points in his chest in rapid succession. As always there was the sharp pain followed by a burning numbness, but there was something else too. He could feel the muscles in his chest tightening. It was getting even harder to breath, and there was a pain just beside his heart. Ever defiant he tried to laugh at the Hyuuga but only ended up coughing up blood. His eyes burned as the last of the chakra flow to them ceased and his sharingan deactivated.

“I’m going close your chakra points one at a time, and then I’m going to shut your organs down, One… by…. One.” Yoko said as she slammed her fingers into Shinken’s ribs. This time there was no numbness only searing pain. The young Uchiha couldn’t help but cry out in pain. Still though he didn’t fall to his knees. In fact he stood up a little straighter.

“That’s right, keep fighting it. The longer you stay conscious the more pain I get to cause you.” The Hyuuga woman said with a sick grin on her face. It was hard to believe people like her were made into ninja, but then again that seemed to be par for the course here in the sand village. Shinken could feel his legs starting to shake, and he did his best to steady them. He was honestly surprised he hadn’t collapsed yet. Somehow through willpower alone he was still standing. The other two Hyuuga struck both of his legs simultaneously and he finally fell to his knees. They grabbed both of his arms and hoisted him up.

“Now, now. We’re not finished with you yet.” Yoko chuckled as she slapped Shinken’s stomach twice. He felt waves of pain wash over him and he suddenly began coughing violently. Blood spewed from his mouth, and he realized he was quickly approaching his breaking point. His body couldn’t take much more of this. With what little strength he had left he pushed chakra out of his palms and sent the two Hyuuga holding his arms stumbling back. They weren’t injured just surprised. Every part of Shinken’s body felt like it was on fire, but still he managed to stay on his feet. His knees were bent inward and his legs were shaking, but in his eyes there was a fire burning. If this was his last stand he was going to make them remember it. As he began to sway and his vision blurred Shinken began to wonder if he was hallucinating. He felt a whirlwind surround him and suddenly there was a man standing in front of him.

“Enough! Shinako, Monako, Yoko! Your younger sister made her decision and paid the price. These men have already seen their punishment for their trespasses. You have yet to see yours. Return to the Hyuuga compound immediately and await your judgment.” The man ordered. Now Shinken knew he was hallucinating there was no one in the village that would have come to his defence.

The man turned to Shinken and and Sayomi and saw the condition they were in. He placed a hand on each of them and closed his eyes. Shinken felt his chakra flow returning to normal and at least some of his strength returning. He looked over to Sayomi and saw that the same thing was happening to her. Who was this man? Why was he helping them? When the two ninja were able to get to their feet on their own the man began to speak.

“I apologize for the trouble that my children have caused you. Though they are adults, they have still not learned to distance passion from vengeance. I must go, but I hope the next time we meet it will be on better terms.” The man said as he bowed to Shinken and Sayomi. He then bowed toward the apartment complex, and then in the blink of an eye he was gone. Shinken was sure even his sharingan wouldn’t have been able to track the man’s movements.

“Come on Sayomi… let's get you inside.” Shinken said as he shuffled over to the female Chuunin. He ached all over and he himself could barely stand, but he wasn’t going to leave Sayomi to walk back to the apartment by herself after the beating she just took for him. He took her arm and placed it over his neck, before hobbling back to the apartment’s stairs. It took every ounce of energy he had but he brought the Chuunin up to Michio’s apartment before his own legs gave out and he fell to his knees.

A month went by since the attack on Michio and Shinken and not a single day was eventful. Michio kept in touch with Shinken every few days, but most of his time was spent on working a day job to make ends meet since he couldn't use his shinobi skills to go on missions. This was mostly due to prompting from Shisara, who was still insistent on him not only paying her back for the cigarette loan but also so that they would be able to pay their rent and keep food on the table.

Michio wiped down the counter of the ramen bar, cleaning up a fresh spill of broth that a customer had just made on the glossy finish. Sweat coated his brow from the heat emanating from behind him, flowing over the young Kaguya in waves of different flavors of food. Michio cursed his luck and wondered how long the ban on his progress as a shinobi would last. These menial tasks were for people without ninja talent, not for people of his capabilities. Another customer entered the bar and he noticed it was one of the other boys from the academy who'd passed the same day he did.

“Oi! Michio! Three Unagi Ramen! And make it snappy would you? If you take longer than three minutes, we're not paying!” the boy ordered at him, a sneer of superiority displayed on his face. Michio glared, but went to fill out the order, moving as fast as he could. He spattered boiling water on his left forearm in his haste and shouted in surprise, grabbing a rag and wiping the water away. The boys who had seen this laughed at him and he growled at them, then went back to setting up their order a little more carefully this time. By the time he'd finished, he was still thirty seconds ahead of the clock and brought them their order with twenty-five seconds to go.

“That'll be 240 ryo.” he told them and the first boy shook his head.

“You're thirty seconds late, Michio-bozu. I'm not paying.”

Michio extended his right hand's claw and tapped it on the counter. “You'll pay or you'll pay with your hide. Where's your sense of honor? I made it in time, you pay the price!”

“Not doing it and I dare you to make me.” And with that the boy spit on the counter next to him.

“Why you little-!” he reached across the counter and lifted the pre-teen so that he was halfway across it.

“MICHIO! What do you think you're doing?!” a voice yelled from behind the nineteen year old shinobi as his boss emerged from the back of the store.

“This customer has decided to refuse to pay on the grounds that I took over three minutes to get their order together, but I was done thirty seconds early!” he called behind him and the boss looked at the wait time counter.

“Says here you're at the four minute mark. The food's free after 3 minutes. And what did they order?” the boss asked and looked at the bowls, “Unagi?! You let us lose 240 ryo!? And then you're assaulting customers?!”

“Sir, it was at the two minute and thirty second mark before they refused to-” Michio protested, but was interrupted by the man who was growing increasingly angry.

“I don't want to hear it! That's the fifth order you've lost us this month! If I keep you on, you'll make us go under! YOU'RE FIRED!” the large man bellowed and if his boss had any control of his chakra, the sudden burst of air might have thrown him off balance. He let go of the Genin and removed his hat and apron before thrusting them into the boss' face.

Michio walked around the back counter as the boss grew red in the face and stared him down. “I'll be back later, old man, and you'd better have my pay.” And with that he walked off.

He got only two streets away before his heart sank into his gut. What was he going to tell Shisara when he got home? He was out of a job and didn't have any other way to make money, and their rent was due tomorrow. She was going to be very disappointed in him, but it wasn't his fault. Every single loss of food was by that same Genin and the boss had not permitted him to refuse service to the boy. He was set up to fail from the first time that Genin had found out where Michio had ended up.

He crossed through an alley and looked down at the dirt, noticing a stain of blood still on the ground. His blood. It had been a month since the last attack from the Hyuuga clan and he had not seen hide nor hair of them. You'd think that even though they were located in a compound in an undisclosed location, he'd still have spotted them going about their daily lives in the village, but no such circumstance had presented itself. Since then, he'd been forced to wear an eyepatch and due to small lack of coordination, he'd let his facial hair grow out and had Shisara groom him, which she just shaved his neck, leaving the beard and mustache.

He thought about that night when he'd been blinded in his left eye and clenched his fists. He wasn't sure if the Ko sisters, as he was calling them, were truly punished for their actions. But he was sure that he still wanted revenge for their attack. The only things stopping him from making himself a criminal were the decree of the Kazekage, his friendship with Shinken, and the recent development of his relationship with Shisara.

A week after the incident, Shisara had snuck herself a bottle of sake from the shop she worked at and brought it home for a night of relaxation. After making sure that the window was closed and locked and that the storm shutters were closed and locked, the night started off casual with Sayomi and Shinken joining Michio and Shisara for a night of revelry, but after both Sayomi and Shinken got quickly intoxicated to the point of being unable to remain conscious, a particularly tipsy Michio laid them on the couch and in the armchair, then Shisara and Michio retreated to his room to continue emptying the bottle. A long exchange of flirtation ensued and at the end of it all, Michio woke up in bed the next morning laying next to his unclothed roommate. Unlike most people who became so intoxicated that it impacted their judgment, neither Shisara or Michio had forgotten the events of the previous night and decided that they'd jumped off the edge and were now in free fall. They began dating and Shisara had attempted to get Michio to stop smoking, but he'd been very stubborn in his disagreement and she hadn't pushed any further.

Michio arrived at the courtyard within seconds of exiting the alleyway and made his way up the stairs, debating with himself on how to explain to his girlfriend what had transpired. Each step felt heavy, as if gravity was increasing the higher and higher he ascended the stairs. He made it to the front door and stopped, deciding that he needed to have a cigarette before he gave her the bad news. He lit up and inhaled deeply as the street on the outside of the courtyard was bustling with activity. Genin, merchants, caravan drivers, and other citizens of the Sand Village went about their daily lives as Michio felt his own life starting to crumble. He'd been banned from being a ninja for an undefined period of time, lost his job, would likely lose his apartment, and was pretty sure he was close to losing the woman he'd started caring for as more than just a friend and roommate.

A few more minutes and he put the cigarette out in the clay pot outside his door like he did every time. Entering his apartment, he noticed that Shisara was sitting at the kitchen table with a concentrated look on her face. He stepped inside and closed the door, then walked over to her and kissed her gently on the cheek. She smiled and turned to him, beaming as she realized he was home from work.

“Welcome home! How was work?” she asked, and he said nothing, instead sitting across the table from her and folding his hands. His knuckles were still raw from where his claws had extended and he looked at her with his good eye.

“Shisara-chan... I....”
he said, and the look on his face was one of failure. It gave her pause and she placed a hand on his.

“What's wrong?” she asked, and he took a deep breath.

“I got fired today. That Genin came back and lied about how long I took and I snapped on him. I'll be getting my final pay later, but that'll be the last of the money I'll be able to pay from that job.”

“Michio... you know that job was important to our survival.... but it's okay. We'll manage. Here, read this.” she told him and slid the paper she'd been reading over to him. He looked down and the first thing he'd noticed was that it had the seal of the Kazekage on it. Michio's heart skipped and he quickly read the message.

Michio Kaguya,

You are receiving this message as a summons to report to the Kazekage's office. Be hasty as you know how impatient Lord Kazekage can be.

- Sunagakure Mission Offices

Michio read it again, and then once again, then looked up at Shisara. “Does this mean...?”

She nodded and smiled at him, “This could be your reinstatement as a shinobi. You won't need that dirty day job to support us.”

He smiled and rose from his chair and rushed over to her, pulling her from her seat and embracing her tightly, planting a very enthusiastic kiss on her lips. “This couldn't have come at a better time!” he said once he'd pulled away and she beamed at him. Her forehead resting against his, she muttered to him.

“You smell like cigarettes.”

He laughed and kissed her again, then let go of her. “If you didn't like it, you wouldn't kiss me.”

She mockingly pursed her lips and looked like she was thinking, then shrugged. “Alright, I guess that means no more kisses.” Michio laughed again and stole a kiss, then went to his room to change into something more official. He returned from his room and walked to the door to see Shisara making a scene of wiping her lips.

“I meant it, Michio! No more cigarettes or no more kisses!” she whined, putting on a pouting face that he saw right through.

“Sure you did. I'll be back soon, Shisara-chan. See you then!” he told her, then left the apartment and rushed as fast as he could to the Kazekage's office where he found Shinken already there. Michio stood in his new outfit; a jet black one piece suit with a combat vest worn over it, the vest having several pouches for ninja tools, and a pair of black boots. His shinobi headband was no longer tied around his right bicep but now worn on his forehead, covering part of the elastic band of the equally black eyepatch.

“Yo! Shinken! You got the message too, huh?” he said to Shinken as he walked closer, his boots oddly making no sound on the hardwood floor.

Shinken stood crouched on the edge of one of the tallest buildings in the sand village. He had taken to spending a lot of his time there just watching the people below go about their lives. It was also a good place to clear his head. Today was an interesting one. He had progressed quite far in his genjutsu in the past month. The other thing he had been doing was training his mind and body during the month he had been banned from being a ninja. Just because he couldn’t do missions didn’t mean he couldn’t keep getting stronger. Even if it took years to get strong enough to go his own ninja way Shinken was determined to achieve his goals.

He and Sayomi had started spending more time together. She made for a good taijutsu sparring partner, and he was helping her with her weakness to genjutsu. Overall the two ninja had made leaps and bounds. Today she sat beside him on the roof of the building.

“So has the Kazekage given you any idea when or if you’ll be able to missions again?” She said as she absent mindedly tapped her feet against the wall below. Shinken honestly didn’t know what the Kazekage had planned for him. All he knew was he wasn’t letting anything slow him down. Not today, not tomorrow, not ever.

“No. I honestly don’t know what he’s planning but I’m not going to let it interfere with our training. Speaking of which how is your chakra control coming?” Shinken said as he rose to a proper standing position. His eyes took in the movements of the village below and he plotted the best possible routes to different key locations like he always did while he was standing up here. He made it a point to drill the layout of the village into his head incase he needed to flee someone, or rush to the village’s defense. He may not have approved of the Kazekage’s methods but the village was still his home.

“Well I hope you get a letter or something soon. I don’t know how much longer I can stand training with you.” Sayomi teased. Shinken shook his head and gave her a small grin. He didn’t mind training, but if he was being honest with himself he was itching to go out and start doing missions again, something Sayomi could obviously see in his actions. He had gotten impatient and had insisted on doing more and more training. When he was focusing on taijutsu or even his genjutsu he was too focused to think about the fact that he was really sitting idle waiting for someone to tell him what he could do.

“I’ll be sure to make my next genjutsu extra creepy for you.” Shinken said as he stepped away from the edge of the building. He was satisfied that everything going on in the village was normal and nothing to be concerned about. Although even if he did see something amiss the only thing he could do would be to report it to the Kage. That was if they would even let him into the Kazekage’s office at all. Sayomi shot him a joking glare that to anyone else could have been misconstrued as a dirty look. Shinken however knew that she wasn’t being serious. The two ninja had become pretty close after the Uchiha had stepped in to draw the two Hyuuga away from Sayomi. They knew each other’s mannerisms pretty well.

Before they could continue the conversation Shinken caught sight of movement in the corner of his eye. He immediately tensed up and spun to face whatever it was. Sayomi was caught off guard as well, but as the two ninja’s eyes locked onto the object their faces turned from expressions of suspicion and apprehension, to those of surprise and anticipation. There was a letter being carried on the sand and and wind, and it was drifting unerringly towards Shinken. The young gennin caught the letter and carefully opened it while Sayomi watched with anticipation. The letter was from the Kage and it demanded he head to the Kazekage’s office immediately. Since he could think of nothing he had done wrong Shinken made the only assumption that seemed logical. He was being re-instated as a ninja. A wide grin suddenly swept across his face and Sayomi broke out into a smile.

“Is that what I think it is?” She asked as she eyed the letter. Shinken nodded affirmatively.

“I think so. It says I’m supposed to head to the office right away.” Shinken said excitededly

“Well what are you waiting for you dolt?! GO!” Sayomi said shooing him off with a smile. She was happy for the Uchiha. Being confined to the village and unable to go on missions was clearly driving him insane. Having already planned the best possible route to the Kazekage’s office Shinken immediately took off running. He jumped from rooftop to rooftop until he finally arrived at his destination. Before he could head inside however he was met with a welcome sight that only reinforced his inkling that he was going to be reinstated. Michio had arrived at the Kage’s office as well.

“Yeah. I guess this means we’re getting let back into the ranks of the sand village’s ninja huh?” Shinken said as he held the door open for Michio. As soon as they stepped inside the Kage greeted both of them.

“Good you’ve finally arrived. It took you two long enough. I’ve decided you’ve been punished enough. You are officially allowed to take missions again. As such I have one for you right now. There has been rumors circulating of a hidden mist ninja who is in the village without permission. I want you to investigate and find out where these rumors originated from, and if they are true. Now you are dismissed. Get out of my office.” The Kazekage said before he turned and walked back into his secluded work area.

“Well Michio, it looks like we’re back on the job. It feels good doesn’t it?” Shinken asked as he pulled his headband out of his vest pocket and tied it around his forehead. It was finally time to get his journey back on the road.

Michio heard Shinken's question and smiled. “Feels damned good. That ramen shop I was working at nearly got me suspended from the village altogether. If I had to serve one more ungrateful moron, I might have snapped and killed someone.” He looked around and said to the surroundings, “Only kidding!”

He turned back to Shinken and put up a thumb over his shoulder. “Ready to get going? I have to let Shisara-chan know about the good-” but he was interrupted by a sudden jostling of his head as Sayomi's foot grazed him. She had been intending to land between the two of them, but had misjudged her landing and accidentally kicked Michio in the side of his face, her foot shifting the eyepatch so that it now covered Michio's nose. He looked something of a really hairy panda bear for a second as both Sayomi and Shinken could see the milky white coloration of his left eye's blinded pupil. He grunted and put the eye patch over the blinded eye before looking up at Sayomi.

“All of this time as a kunoichi and you still don't have your landings down?” he asked, and Sayomi apologized profusely to Michio before noticing that he'd grown out his facial hair.

“Looking pretty rugged there, Michio. Shisara's touch?” she countered, and he blushed. Michio looked away and crossed his arms. Sayomi grinned childishly and walked over to Shinken, resting her elbow on his shoulder. “Look at that, Shinken-kun! He's turning almost as red as your Sharingan.” she muttered into Shinken's ear, talking just loud enough that Michio could still hear her.

“Yeah? How about you two? You guys bunking yet?”

Sayomi's jaw dropped and she immediately flushed, standing upright and away from Shinken. “I... you... what are you talking about? I don't know what you're talking about!”

Michio chuckled to himself and lit up a cigarette. In his head, he heard a bass instrument strum four times. He smirked and snapped his lighter shut, now a zippo style rather than the matches he'd been using before. He looked to Shinken with his good eye and nodded his head over his shoulder. “Let's go, Shinken. We don't need to fail this mission just because your girlfriend held us up. Oh, and I brought these.” he said, tossing Shinken the headset that he'd used during the previous mission that they'd gone on together. And with that he crouched low and flickered from view and appeared on the roof of a building a couple of streets away.

The nearly twenty year old Kaguya made it to the village's equivalent of a supermarket and began looking around. “If I were a shinobi of the Mist Village trying to blend into a village of Sand shinobi, where would I hide?” He made his way around the crowd by sticking to the rooftops which was beneficial for both him and the people below. It gave him a good vantage and also let him smoke his cigarette without having to worry about accidentally exhaling it in someone's face.

His only operational eye scanned the crowd and he had some trouble with locating the Mist symbol among the crowd of Sand ninja, so he took a seat on the edge and flicked his ashes onto the roof beside him. It took several minutes, but he finally caught sight of something that looked like the symbol for the Mist Village on a headband some preteen looking kid was wearing. He smirked and inhaled another puff of his tobacco before getting to his feet. “Gotcha.”

Michio kept an eye on the boy and began to tail him, staying on the rooftops so that he wouldn't lose track of him. He buzzed the headset and spoke into it. “Shinken, I've got a visual. Supermarket only a few blocks over. I'll try to intercept.” The Kaguya Genin jumped from rooftop to rooftop as the alleys opened up between buildings, making sure to not lose sight of his target. Finally, the kid turned down an alley and Michio landed in the dirt behind him.

“HEY!”
Michio called out and the boy turned, saw the headband on Michio's forehead, and booked it. “Aw crap! Shinken, he's getting away. Where are you?” he called into the headset, taking off after the fleeing shinobi.

Shinken had to stifle a laugh as Michio was nicked in the side of the head by Sayomi’s foot. The urge to laugh was cut short quite suddenly by the somber sight of the Kaguya’s pale milky white eye. It was a stark and brutal reminder of what had happened, and Shinken partially blamed himself. If he hadn’t hurt their Jounin so badly Michio might still have both of his eyes. When Michio suggested that Sayomi and he were shacking up together he couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow. When the female Chuunin turned red and faced away from him Shinken got the feeling that maybe Michio had hit a little too close to the mark for her liking. Maybe she had feelings for him as more than just a friend. It would be something he would have to talk to her about later. Michio tossed a comm unit to the young Uchiha who took it and placed it in his ear. It felt just like he remembered. It was hard and uncomfortable in his ear, but it served a very useful purpose.

“Yeah right. More like you would hold us up. Besides we’re just friends.” Shinken said. ‘At least for now.” He added in his head. He didn’t want to give Sayomi any ideas just yet, and he didn’t need to give MIchio something to tease him about, although he and Shisara seemed to be getting very close to each other. The young gennin watched his teammate take disappear into the distance. It was just like him to rush out without talking about the plan. He was lucky Shinken was very good at improvising.

Shinken gave a quick nod to Sayomi and he too disappeared, only to reappear about a block away. Since he had a general idea of the direction Michio had been heading in, and he had the streets memorized the young Uchiha decided he would take a route to cut off as many ground based escape routes as he could. Michio would be able to make better time on the rooftops but Shinken would be able to get a better view of the crowd. If he spotted anyone suspicious he could follow them for a time, and if he needed to he could also interrogate them. Being on the streets also had the added bonus of being able to overhear people’s conversations.

“I swear I saw some kid wearing another village’s head band! Really I did.” A man was saying as the young gennin passed by. Shinken stopped and carefully listened to the conversation.

“Yeah right Teku. You’re always seeing things. I bet he was wearing a Kage hat too.” Another man said as he lifted up a crate of what looked like rice. The young Uchiha was about to move on when he heard the first man speak again.

“I swear! He was running toward the market. If you don’t believe me go check!” Teku shouted angrily. The young Uchiha now had a lead at the very least. Knowing that the best route to exit the marketplace if you were trying to hide was the eastern street Shinken moved to take a shortcut. He cut through the alleyways and even scaled a few buildings. By the time he was just about to round the corner he heard Michio come over the headset. Apparently he had caught sight of the hidden mist shinobi. Shinken cursed knowing that the Kaguya would try to intercept the ninja rather than stalk him. They weren’t supposed to engage the target only perform surveillance. Sure enough not more than two minutes later he heard Michio talking about how the kid was getting away. In fact he heard Michio’s actual voice as well. That was a stroke of luck. It would be easy to pin the kid between himself and his teammate now.

The young ninja sprinted up the wall of the nearby building, and as he was going up he caught sight of his friend in an alleyway nearby. Without hesitation he launched himself through the air, flying toward where the boy and Michio were. Shinken slammed down dramatically cutting off the kid so quickly that he actually ran into the Uchiha.

“Right here.” Shinken said with a smirk. He looked down at the kid and something seemed familiar about him. It took the Uchiha a moment but he realized that the kid lived a block down from his house. He let out a sigh and shook his head.

“What the hell are you doing kid? Running around with a mist village headband on? Are you trying to get yourself killed? You’ve caused a great deal of concern around the village you know.” Shinken said sternly as he reached over and snatched the headband off of the kid’s forehead. It was a cheap plastic rip off, but it looked real enough from a distance.

“Where did you get this?” The young gennin asked as he put the headband into his vest as evidence.

“I...I just wanted to be a ninja...I bought it from a man selling them in the marketplace.” The kid said his voice trembling in fear. Shinken actually felt sorry for him. He also wondered how many other fake headbands there were floating out around the village now. This kid might not be the only person running around with one.

“Alright. Go home, and don’t do anything like this again. Got it?” Shinken said trying to sound intimidating without scaring the kid literally half to death. The boy took off running in the direction of his house and Shinken nodded.

“Well. If there’s someone selling these we should probably let the Kage know. He will most likely send us out to shut this merchant and his business down, and I think we could make a mission out of collecting the rest of these headbands too. Once we find out how many this merchant sold anyway.” Shinken said as he turned to go back to the Kage’s office. In his excitement he left his partner behind and soon arrived at the Kage’s office. He stepped through the doors and nodded to the Kazekage who always seemed to know when he was about to receive visitors.

“We found out that it was a false alarm Lord Kazekage. It was just a kid running around with a fake headband he got from a merchant here in town.” Shinken said as he pulled the fake headband out of his pocket and presented it to the dark skinned man. The Kazekage looked it over and grunted in displeasure.

“You and Michio are to find this merchant and shut him down. If you can you are to track down the remaining headbands and destroy them. I don’t need a panic spreading through out the village.” The Kazekage said as he gave a gesture that said get out of my office. Shinken nodded in response and headed out the door just as Michio arrived.

“Well I was right Michio. It looks like this a set of missions. We have to shut down the merchant, and then find and destroy all the remaining headbands.” The Uchiha said as he prepared to head to the marketplace.

Michio found out that the shinobi's headband was fake and let out a sigh of relief. Though they could definitely use the extra water here in the village, the last thing he needed was to face off against a Mizugakure Shinobi. Shinken had confiscated the model headband and Michio heard what the boy had said before he ran off. “I just want to be a ninja!”

Michio watched the boy run away and frowned. 'No, you don't. You really don't.' he thought, and turned back to Shinken as his teammate told him that they should report back to the Kazekage to receive their next mission, but before Michio could respond, his teammate headed out.

“Huh... he must be excited to be doing missions again or something.” Michio said to himself, then began heading back to the Kazekage's office, keeping an eye out for any more of those headbands. Shinken was right; if there was a merchant selling the official seals of the other shinobi nations in the sand village, while possibly being harmless, it could start a bigger conflict if any of the village's thugs committed crimes while wearing the fake headbands. He saw a couple but was unable to reach them through the crowd before they disappeared. Michio tried for a couple of minutes to find the people wearing them but to no avail. He finally gave up and continued returning to the Kazekage's office, arriving just in time for Shinken to exit the building and tell him about their next mission.

“Well I was right Michio. It looks like this a set of missions. We have to shut down the merchant, and then find and destroy all the remaining headbands.”

Michio nodded and headed out alongside Shinken, his cigarette just now burnt down to the last bit of tobacco. Michio flicked the cigarette butt until the cherry flew off and into the dirt. Not stopping, Michio stepped on the cherry and put it out, then pocketed the cigarette butt. “Alright, I say we split up to cover more ground. There's likely no danger involved in this, so we'll be fine on our own. If you see anything, however, let me know through the comm. I saw a few headbands as I was coming back here, so I'll start by trying to find them. Hopefully by finding someone who bought one, we can track down the fool.”

Michio made his way to the supermarket to start his search, but it didn't take long. It was a rather big booth with headbands all over the front frame as well as lining the table. This merchant either didn't know these were illegal to produce or didn't care about the consequences. “Shinken, I found him. Northwest corner of the marketplace. This guy's not too bright because it's not a very well hidden booth. Hurry on over, I'm going to go stop any further sales.”

The Kaguya headed over to the booth and took a headband from a boy's hands and placed it back on the table. “Go home.” he told the boy, who took one look at him and nodded fearfully and ran off.

“What do you think you're doing?” the merchant said angrily, “You just cost me a sale.”

“And you may have cost yourself your freedom. Under the orders of the Kazekage, you are to cease and desist the sales of all of these illegal products and turn them and yourself over to the ANBU at the Kazekage's office.”

“And just who do you think you are to give me such a demand?!”

Michio extended the claws in his right hand and held up his fist. “I'm the guy who's been contracted by the Kazekage to force you to comply if you don't come willingly.” The merchant's eyes widened before he glared.

“You meddling shinobi just can't stand the sight of a true entrepreneur, can you? Anyone who doesn't fall in line to your overly strict code of commerce! Not every child can be a shinobi, and all I'm doing is letting them pretend for a little bit.”

“You're right, not every child can become a shinobi. Being a shinobi isn't fun and games. I've been nearly killed twice since I made the rank of Genin and I'm at least twelve years older than your demographic. These headbands are dangerous, because a child playing ninja who comes across a real ninja could get hurt or killed. I could care less about the commerce laws, but you're putting the lives of your customers at risk.”

The merchant snarled and momentarily forgot about Michio's claws. He must have, because he grabbed Michio by the vest and pulled him close. “I doubt you have clearance to use violence against me to shut me down, so I'm not doing it unless you make me!”

Shinken watched his teammate flick his ciggeratte but onto the ground. He really wished Michio would stop smoking. It was terrible for the Kaguya’s health. He was right though. Splitting up to cover more ground was the best plan. A simple merchant wouldn’t be much of a threat even if he was armed with a weapon. Shinken figured the merchant would be in the marketplace. But there were several districts he could be in. He thought for a moment that the merchant might also be in the entertainment district, but he decided that he would check the marketplace first. The young Uchiha decided he would head to the South Eastern corner of the market. On his way there he kept seeing kids wearing headbands, and every time he did he would dash in faster than they could see and grab the headband away from them. By the time he arrived at the market the route he had travelled was clearly marked by a line of crying children. Shinken began to wonder just how many of these headbands had been sold already. It was astounding that he already had 15 of them on his person.

Before he could even really search the area he got a communication from Michio. He had found the idiot merchant who was selling these things. He also said that he was going to stop any further sales. That sentence deeply worried Shinken. He took of at his top speed toward the other corner of the marketplace. He arrived just in time to see Michio pop his claws and the merchant grab onto the Kaguya by the vest. The Uchiha quickly moved between the two men and pushed them apart with a quite sudden amount of force. He pointed at his teammate with a stern look of exasperation on his face.

“You. Put those away.” He said before he turned to point at the merchant.

“And YOU! You’re an idiot! Do you have any idea how serious selling these damned knock offs is? You could get some poor kid killed!” Shinken growled as he took a step forward. The merchant just glared at him defiantly.

“I’m not going anywhere. You can’t make me. Your precious Kage won’t let you hurt me.” The merchant said almost tauntingly. Shinken’s eyes narrowed and he forced himself to take a breath. A thin vaguely agressive smile formed on his lips before he answered the man in front of him.

“Actually...I can.” He said as he activated his sharingan. The young Uchiha sucked the merchant into a world of genjutsu where there was only darkness. His eyes appeared in front of the man the size of a giant’s.

“You’ll stay in here forever. Unless you agree to shut down your business and hand over the remaining headbands for destruction.” Shinken said. His booming ominous voice seemed to reverberate off of the darkness as it encroached on the merchant. The gennin had no intention of hurting the man, only scaring him into submission. As the darkness encroached on the man he visibly tensed, until when it had nearly reached his feet he broke.

“Alright! You can have the headbands!” He cried, and as quickly as the genjutsu had begun it was over. Shinken looked at him with a polite smile.

“That wasn’t so hard was it? I’m sure my precious Kage will be very pleased with your cooperation.” The Uchiha said as he waved his hand as if to shoo the merchant away.

“Well I guess we should let Anbu know where to pick this stuff up, and then we’ll round up the last of the headbands.” Shinken said feeling a little bit full of himself after his interaction with the merchant.

Michio nodded and together he and Shinken returned to the Kazekage's office to report in with the finished mission.

“Apparently a month out of commission was exactly what you two needed. You've completed your missions quickly so far. Now you just need to round up the headbands that had been sold prior to you shutting down the merchan's booth. Dismissed.” The Kazekage told them.

'I'll show you out of commission... one of these days....' Michio thought, but bowed slightly and left the office. “Alright Shinken, we'll have to split up again, but this time we hopefully won't have to back each other up. I'll start from the west side of the village and make my way back here. You start from the east and do the same. Sound good?”

“Sounds like a plan.” Shinken said, nodding as he took off to the east side of the village.

Michio smirked and traveled to the west side, then made his way to the center of the village, keeping an eye out for any suspicious headbands. It wasn't until he headed back to the supermarket district that he found any of the headbands and he began sifting through the crowd, swiping any and all headbands carrying various non-Sand symbols. By the end of his search, he'd only found five of them; two Mist, one Lightning, one Leaf, and even one Sound.

“Kind of odd for there to be this many different types. The merchant selling these must have traveled from village to village in order to get the symbols down mostly right. There's some slight alterations to these though. The Mist headband only has three squiggles, the Lightning is just two arrows, the Leaf is missing most of the swirl, and the Sound headband is the wrong musical note. Kinda looks like a bass clef instead of the traditional musical note.” Michio spoke into the headset, then saw a group of children ahead all wearing headbands that looked off. He spotted a Leaf symbol and frowned. “Found a group of em, going to confiscate and interrogate.”

He stopped transmitting and quickly moved through the crowd to the boys who were comparing their headbands with some dismay. “It's all wrong!” one of the boys said. “The symbols aren't the right ones! How are we going to use these in our play?”

Michio stopped and smiled. So the boys were interested in being actors, huh? These headbands sure would be a good prop, so he might bring that to the Kazekage's attention. Regardless, the mission was to confiscate as many headbands as he could, and these boy's property qualified.

“Hey guys.” Michio said, and the boys turned to him and looked up. The kids couldn't have been older than seven and Michio came to the conclusion that they had not taken into consideration the dangers of these products. “I'm going to need you guys to hand over the headbands.”

“Why? They're not even the right symbol. And we paid for them with the money we earned from our fundraiser!” one of the boys protested and Michio took a knee, which was hard to do without getting knocked over in this crowd.

“I'll see what I can do about talking to the Kazekage. As far as I remember, he's a big fan of theatrical arts, so he shouldn't be against returning these to your school after we catalog them. The man who sold these to you guys was doing so illegally, which means he was committing a crime.”

“We know what illegal means!”
one of the other boys piped up and Michio smiled.

“Okay then, since you know so much, you should also know that with crimes, the evidence has to be gathered and recorded before anything is decided about what to do with it. Those headbands are evidence. Do you boys want to help me close this case?”

The boys looked from one to another and shrugged, then began to take the headbands off. They looked sad about it and Michio hoped that the Kazekage wouldn't use his hatred for Michio as a reason to disappoint these kids. They handed the headbands to him and he thanked them, “I'll do my best to see that you get these back.” And with that, he stood up and walked away.

“Shinken, I'm at ten headbands. What's your count?” Michio said into the microphone, only now realizing that his transmitter had been active the whole time. Michio sighed and knew that Shinken had to have heard all of it. 'Great, now he knows for sure that I've got a soft side. Dammit.'
