"D'I gotta go, Ma?"
It was probably the eleventh or hundredth time Sakn had asked this since him and his mother had exited their quaint little village home. And for the eleventh, or hunderedth time, his mother completely ignored his complaints. Which annoyed and frustrated the country bumpkin even more.
See, thing was, Sakn hated groups--well, groups of city people. He didn't particularly like the way they acted, or the way they smelled, or the way they dressed. Or, really, much about them at all. So when his mother told him he would be escorting her to the Festival this year instead of her husband, the redhead nearly died. He did not want to go to the festival at all.
Yet, here he was, all dressed up and uncomfortable and itchy and smelly (in the perfume-y way; not very manly at all!) and all around irritated. His mother had forced him out of his comfortable clothing in exchange for a blue and green sarong and a krama that hung loosely over his shoulders. And while, usually, Sakn was fine with wandering about without his shirt on, today wasn't a day that he wished to do so. But all his shirts were ripped and tattered, and his mother 'would not be seen with such a poorly dressed son at her side!' so he went shirtless. Which was embarrassing because as soon as they entered the festival, he felt hundreds of scrutinizing, ugly eyes turn to him, staring at his clothing (or lack there of!).
Sakn shifted awkwardly as his mother halted to speak to a city friend, and when he realized she was no longer paying attention to him, he quickly sidestepped from view. Perhaps he could sneak back home and claim that he got lost in the crowds. YES! It was a perfect idea, and Sakn praised himself silently for thinking up such a plan. He glanced back at his mother, but she was still deep in conversation. Pefect.
Sakn stared out at the sea of people for a moment, slightly lost before finally regaining his bearings and quickly making way for the paths to his home, rudely shoving people out of his way when they wouldn't move; his shell necklace tinking against his bare chest as he moved swiftly and with purpose.
Of course, some people, when shoved, enjoy shoving back. Sakn never even thought of that as he continued to mow his way through the crowd. He justed wanted to go home, get a shirt on and maybe do a bit of late night fishing. There were too many people here, too many voices and while his mother enjoyed being a social butterfly, Sakngea did not.
"Com'on! Com'on people! Moove it!" he would roar as he shoved and pushed. Stupid city people.

”What?” Eiji instinctually responded as he turned towards the voice. Not registering the first comment he heard he caught the second thing the female voice said.
"Someone must be speaking of you. I hope it's in good faith,"
”Wait what? Don't tell me you too? Damn it! What is with you guys. Both of you.... Uhh!” Eiji huffed as he forcefully crossed his arms in front of him. Junichi could not help but lightly chuckle at the echoing in words he spoke by the other. With a smile he bowed politely in respect to the entrance of the new female lunarian. With arms still folded in front of him he spoke up, “Allow me to say thank you in place for my brother. I hate to admit it but the chances of him ever saying thank you back is rather scarce.” Eiji began to tap his foot in frustration to his brothers statements. ”You make it sound like I’m not here. I can hear every single word you’re saying you know... I’m not deaf.” He wasn’t quite appreciating the vibe the conversation was giving off.
Sumu’s attention was still towards the mouse but he broke his focus for a second or two to become aware of the new female presence. A quick flick of the tail and twitching of the ears and soon after his head was turned towards the mouse again.
“Oh, where are my manners. It's the Benjirou households pleasure to meet your acquaintance. My name is Junichi and this is-” Junichi started as he directed his hand towards himself then at Eiji during his introductions, soon to be interrupted from another voice over the crowd growing near.
"Eiji!"
Listening to his brother give introductions Eiji listened quietly, contributing a nod of the head when his name was said. A few seconds went by before he realized it wasn’t Junichi who said his name. Oh god what is it now... Eiji thought to himself with a moan as he scanned faces trying to find where the voice came from. The party was slowly getting larger it seemed, probably to Eiji’s displeasure. The three, including Sumu, became four and soon a fifth would make it to the scene.
Eiji’s focused locked on the face of a blue haired lunarian. The lunarian was Huang-fu. The gaze Huang had on Eiji was properly reflected back but the thoughts behind the eyes were different. Why is that guy staring at me.... And why does that face look vaguely familiar? Needless to Eiji’s memory could be better. During the trailing half of his thoughts Eiji’s eye narrowed.

He had arrived late.
Much later than he'd intended, and he had seen the disapproval in his parents' faces before they needed to speak it. He didn't enjoy disrespecting his ancestors in such a way; although they had no one 'buried' here (thankfully), it was still of the utmost importance to take this chance to honor the spirits of those he had never known personally, if not for the simple fact that they were spirits. They deserved respect, and he would willfully give it to them all.
Posed in front of a line of tombstones, Ran stood alone, mouth set in a solemn line. He had come alone, because he had taken so long to prepare himself, but it didn't bother him. His family understood the importance of this festival, but none were allowed to go until their duties were done; that was simply the way it was. His father and mother had been done with their work bright and early, and Ishi had gone with them. Haruki and Fuyuki had followed shortly after, and Ran... well, Ran had taken all day to get done what needed to be done.
His face flushed in remembrance of how horridly he had screwed up the wood pile. How he had managed to not only topple the stack, but send logs cascading down the hill, he would never know. It had taken hours of careful stacking to put it back into its place, and there had still been more wood to cut. He shook his head quickly to rid himself of the memory, bi-colored eyes staring moodily out over the lines of tombstones.
His family had all dressed ceremonially, their clothing as formal as it could possibly be. His robe was heavy with sash and fur and his ceremonial sword, but he only had to endure it for the remainder of the festival. It wasn't so bad, he assured himself, but he fidgeted every now and then and wished to simply rip his clothes off and be done with them. An entirely inappropriate thought, but that was why thoughts existed, probably; so people could think things without being kicked in the face.
Ran had been in a hurry to dress himself, only realizing this as he passed a hand over his stomach. When he looked down, he frowned at the absence of his satchel, which had carried various, intricate wood carvings representative of animals. Damn, he thought, and his brow furrowed. He meant to bring them to give to Yuudai as small offerings to his passed relatives, but...
He released a frustrated sigh and shook his head. What else could possibly go wrong today?
Hands pressing together, Ran calmed himself and offered a silent prayer to the spirits. He wished those who had not passed a safe journey, and bade them farewell. When he was finished, he turned away and looked out over the goings-on of the festival. People were lazing about and enjoying themselves, and he briefly regretted not finishing his work sooner and coming with his family. Even his brothers would have been alright, save for the fact that they would undoubtedly give him hell the length of the day.
Ah, well. What was done was done. Ran reached into his sleeve and pulled out a small, decorated knife, then stooped to fumble about for a decent piece of wood. When he found one, he stood again and began walking, hands deftly whittling away at the wood. He kept his eyes glued to his work - it would be a gift for Yuudai, albeit last minute - and did not pay attention to where he walked.
When he felt a hand shove - rather confidently, he noted - at his chest, he dug his heels into the ground to avoid being thrown backward. He blinked rapidly and caught himself, stumbling only to catch the wood and knife that threatened to fly right out of his hands.
"Com'on! Com'on people! Moove it!"
Ran stared in disbelief at the one who was yelling and shoving others around, as if he were hacking a path through tall grass. At once, the instinct to grow angry welled up in him. What if his gift had been ruined? What if he'd hurt someone? Mouth curving down once more into a frown, Ran slipped both now-sheathed knife and wood into his sleeve and stepped in front of the rather rude Lunarian.
He was not good at confrontation, but he could see the glares being cast toward the man, and assumed that he had been shoving people right and left. This injustice would not go without being dealt with.
"Excuse me," Ran said hotly, narrowed eyes scrutinizing the man's nearly-naked stature with a bit of jealousy (oh, how he would have loved to dress like that -- no! Now was not the time to be envious of this man). "You should be more careful when moving through such a crowd. You could have hurt someone." He purposefully failed to mention that his carving had also been a victim of the man's brutish actions, nor did he mention that he hadn't been watching where he was going, himself. He was already in a bad mood, he didn't need to sit here and take this man's abuse.
Huffing a light snort out his nose, he gave said man an expectant stare, arms crossed firmly over his chest.

“No, you didn’t interrupt anything, Kiran.” Xiu hurriedly assured with a bright smile. “Every year they start out with a formal walk but the moment everyone hit’s the food stalls everything goes to pieces.” He laughed, brushing brown hair out of his face as he peered at both Kiran and his sister. He began to spot others he knew in the crowd behind his friend. Familiar faces from school and around the town. Things were really starting to get a bit cramped, seeing as they were still standing in the midst of everything.
“Oh, it’s nice to meet you, Xiuying.” The blue Lunnarian bowed formally. “I see we have a common name. It’s--” Xiu cut himself off and his mouth hung uncharacteristically slack as he stared at the people mover that was Sakn in the distance. The redhead was too far away for him to call out to properly to get his attention, but Xiu sure could see his friend clearly. And the path of angry festival goers that were left in his wake.
“Uh, Kiran?” Xiu asked, regaining himself, even though he never took his eyes off Sakn. “Could you please excuse me for a moment?” A dark haired male now seemed to be accosting Sakngea, berating him for all the shoving. Giving Kiran an apologetic look, he detached himself from the male and made a beeline for his freckle faced companion from school.
It was Xiu's turn to shoulder his way through the crowd, though granted he was jostled more than anything else. Slightly battered from a few elbows, he arrived by Sakngea’s side, slighting out of breath with a flush face.
“Sakn!” Xiu announced himself with a yank on the boy’s scarf. He tried not to let his eyes rake over Sakn’s form, trying to avoid any jealous feelings that might occur from seeing such a toned body. “Is everything okay here?” He asked, glancing at Ran with a slight frown as he crossed his arms, posturing besides Sakn. He wasn’t entirely sure what had occurred, but he had Sakn’s back!

When he pushed Ran, he figured the tall man would move like all the other idiots had, but instead Sakn found himself being forced to a halt as the dark haired lunarian stepped into his path. The redhead face screwed up in a look of utter frustration. He did NOT want to be stopped. He wanted to go home and get on some normal, not barely there (and totally girlish), clothing. He was like a wall, a big, annoying wall with a giant furry thing wrapped around him.
Then the wall talked.
And Sakn’s face darkened even more. “Maybeee,” he grouched, arms crossing in a mockery of Ran, green eyes meeting the mans strange ones, “people she’d jus’ stay outta mah way,” he finished with his own snort of irritation. Sakn did not want to be here, he was itchy from the perfume his mother had covered him in, and a small wind a was now tickling his bare sides, making him even more uncomfortable. He grabbed at one of his braids, absently-mindedly playing with it to keep himself from punching the ‘wall’. They stared for a few moments.
It was like this guy expected Sakn to apologize or something.
“You expectin’ som’kinda sorry or sommit?” the redhead grouched before attempting to sidestep Ran. “Cuz, see, I dun’ apoligize fur nuthin’.”
And that was that, in Sakn’s mind.
Or so he thought, until someone else yelled his name. He turned his head left, right, up, down, before feeling something tugging on his krama. He frowned and looked down again to see Xiu staring up at him (he didn't even notice the slightly jealous look on either Ran or Xiu's faces! No one said he was observant!). His face split into a smile for a moment before the smaller boy asked what was going on.
His frown returned full force and he pointed accusingly at Ran. "This 'ere guy ain't letting me get home! He just gon' and stopped me, thinkin' I needs ta apoligize or somethin'."
He glared at Ran again, glad that he now had a friend at his side.

Ran blinked. Then he looked entirely unimpressed.
"Yes," he said, scowl deepening. What else could he possibly mean? He gave Sakn a look that he typically reserved for idiots, only glancing downward long enough to acknowledge the fact that a much shorter man had joined their midst.
Just like animals, he noted with more interest than resentment. Gathering in packs. It was, of course, their nature to want to be together with others of their kind. He hadn't expected the man to have allies in a crowd he so willingly disrespected, but it only annoyed him somewhat. He wasn't here to pick a fight, he just wanted an apology. Almost as if he expected Sakn to apologize for everything that had gone wrong in his day, although he didn't see it as such. The mind was a mysterious thing.
"Yes," he repeated once more, "I would like an apology. And I am certain I am not the only one. What kind of man plows his way through a crowd like that?"
He gestured out to his sides, not quite understanding why he was unable to let it go. He blamed it on his mood and continued. "If not that, then you should at least take care not to treat others as you would roadblocks. If my sister had been..." He cut himself off, feeling the urge to be angry again. If his sister had been shoved, well... that would have been an entirely different story.
He watched the two of them closely, half-lidded eyes going from the taller one to the shorter one. Something told him he wasn't going to get that apology. Something also told him this was a fruitless effort.
This was a terrible day.

An easy smile returned to his face at that answer. Kiran didn't want to get Xiu in trouble by ruining some important duty the monks had. "Food stalls tend to do that," he said with a laugh. His parents were probably off somewhere checking out all the different stalls. He admitted to getting lured by a few of them himself, and Xiuying was always eager to try all the different foods. But the siblings always made certain to stick close to each other even if they got separated from their parents.
Xiuying bowed politely in return. "Oh, hey!" Kiran shouted, just noticing the similarity to their names. He had paid much attention to that before when he met Xiu. He never really shortened his sister's name to just Xiu, so it slipped his notice. "I just realized that. About your names."
You can be so slow sometimes, Xiuying teased, the movements of her hands almost escaping Kiran's notice, but he caught her statement out of the corner of his eye.
"Hey, it's not nice to make fun of your brother," Kiran argued with a playful pout that only made his sister grin. "Huh?" Kiran returned his attention to Xiu. "Oh, sure. I'll be around if you want to meet up later." He and Xiuying waved as Xiu ran off. They continued along Main Street, checking out some of the stalls they passed.

Cais nodded at her question. "That's our specialty." He said, his tone lifting at the statement. Talking of his artistry rarely brought him down, though on the subject matter it did very little to lift his spirit.
He felt the touch on his shoulder and glanced back to her, releasing his lip, then turned back to study the graveyard. How foolish would it sound to her that the person his was mourning he had only met once? He sighed and looked back to her once more, a silence coming between them for a moment while he took a breath in. "Nilgün. Of the Radd family." he muttered softly, it had been a long time since he'd even spoken the name.
Though he had later found out that she was of the Legion, Cais couldn't bring himself to feel any sort of negative emotions about her. I wonder if Shin knew her also, or maybe has spoken with her. he thought, but dared not ask for fear of alienating her. "I wouldn't even know where to start looking." he chimed in afterward staring towards the graveyard vacantly.

She was frantic now, her eyes tearing up as she ran through the crowds. He had to be somewhere, right? Enlei scanned the crowd as she went, looking for even just a glimpse of those colours- dusk-blue hair, green eyes like hers.
She did not even want to think about never seeing him again. It was possible, wasn't it? That someone might just snatch him away, after all she'd just left him there, all alone. Images of him being hurt- what if he'd broken his arm, or twisted his ankle, or what if he'd fallen down somewhere and scraped his knees it'd all be her fault, and--
"..your brother". These two words caught her attention amidst the noise, and she turned to see a boy with his younger sister. Her heart ached slightly; the way the sister clung to her brother reminded her of the way Shan clung to her.
Taking a deep breath, Enlei approached them, her voice somewhat hysterical as she asked:
"Have you seen a little boy, with dark hair and green eyes, about nine years old?"
She didn't dare to hope that they'd say 'yes'.

Kiran paused when a female Lunarian approached him. He didn't recognize her and wondered if perhaps she knew his sister until her heard the question she asked. He tried to recall seeing someone by that description but no one like that stuck out in his mind. "I'm afraid I haven't seen anyone like that," he explained, frowning. Then he glanced at his sister. "Have you?"
Xiuying took a moment to think. Then she gave the quick hand signal for "no" as she too frowned.
"Sorry. I'm afraid my sister hasn't seen him either." He felt bad. The girl looked clearly worried about her missing brother. Kiran imagined he would feel just the same if Xiuying suddenly disappeared from his side during the festival. With such a large crowd, it would be difficult to find her again, especially when she couldn't answer his call. "But maybe we can help you find him," he offered.

Utterly ridiculous. Ishtar cast a scornful glance at Jianyu. "Safe? How can we feel safe when we are in the middle of a war? Pursing her lips, she continued, "I don't mean to create tension, but even you can't help but be wary of all of these strangers." Her burgundy eyes softened a bit as she added quietly, "But you've always been a little too empathetic for your own good, Jianyu." It was true. Even after getting ambushed by the other side, Jianyu still seemed firm in his belief that nothing could hurt him, especially Nobles. Ish had seen the dark side of the rebelling Retainers, and she simply couldn't bring herself to let her guard down---not when she was still confused as to who was a friend and who was not. Right now, she realized that one thing, and one thing only was absolute today. Jianyu was the only one who she could trust, in the middle of this large and ever-shifting group. And she couldn't lose that connection, that lifeline, now. Hearing his next words, "...You're not exactly like everyone else; you're irreplaceable." caused a flicker of surprise to appear on Ishtar's face. How odd that was---that one statement could erase all the antipathy that had been burning withing her.
"That's nice to hear, Jianyu. Because I...guess I haven't replaced you either."
Ishtar felt victorious inside; she had won this internal battle. Maintaining a calm expression with hooded eyes as she watched Jianyu dismiss Yue, her heart twinged at the familiar way he mentioned Yue's nickname---Stargazer. Still, the girl meant her no harm, despite the ever-changing, slightly flirtatious glances Yue was giving Jianyu. And Ishtar was liking the stoicness of Huang-fu every moment. The fact that he had just called her pretty made her smile. Running her slender fingers through her hair, she nodded her approval at Lee. He had already turned around, however, to the sound of quite possibly the loudest sneeze Ish had ever heard.
So what if she was in the midst of strangers who could turn on her at any moment? Ishtar felt a warm rush of appreciation towards Jianyu as she reminded herself that maybe, just maybe, he had missed her just as much as she missed him during the previous months. Despite what she tried to tell herself, that nagging feeling wormed a hole in her heart. Distance makes the heart grow fonder.
An unfamiliar voice jolted her out of her reverie, however. "Nilgün. Of the Raad family." So she wasn't the only one who was remembering Nil. She needed to find Nil's grave and pay her respects; after all, wasn't that the whole point of today? Ishtar looked towards Jianyu, an unspoken question on her lips.
Will he stay here or accompany me throughout this festival? Knowing Jianyu as the gentleman he was, he just might follow her. Ishtar's dark eyes looked questioningly at Jianyu. She couldn't ask him to help her find Nil's grave; he had his own family to attend to.
A sudden shove by an uncouth, red-haired Lunarian dressed in---was that a skirt?---slightly feminine clothes caused Ishtar to stagger towards Jianyu, almost falling on him.
The hell?
"Excuse me?" Ishtar snapped, forgetting all of Jianyu's cautionary words of advice. She saw a short, brown-haired Lunarian monk reach towards the red-haired Lunarian, but Ishtar did the same. Her slender arm snagged the krama of the pushy Lunarian, and Ishtar murmured, cold fury in her voice, "The furry man is right, boy. You do need to apologize, to me and Captain Jianyu here." Ishtar decided to use Jianyu's full title, in hopes of invoking some sort of respect from the red-haired Lunarian dressed in a skirt.
{{OOC: LOOOOL. I LOVE SAKN. rottie, his accent is just awesome. And Ish is very pms-ing warlike today. ouo" Also, Furry Man=Ran. haha, I didn't know how else to put it.}}

"Would you really?" Enlei bit her lip, looking around them. The sky was steadily getting darker, and that also meant chances of finding him would be lower. At least, she hoped, that he was still safe and waiting for her. Tomorrow, on celebration day, she'd make it up to him by spoiling him silly. If.. he were still here.
"I'm Enlei," she said softly. "And.. thank you." It wouldn't be polite not to offer her name to someone who'd offered help. Besides, the boy and his sister seemed nice enough. The girl, she thought, seemed to be around her age, and Enlei was just a liiiiiiiittle jealous that she looked so dainty and sweet.
"I think it was about an hour ago. I accidentally let go of his hand, while chasing something, and.. I haven't been able to find him since." She recalled the incident with Jianyu and Ishtar, and scowled. "It was around here that I lost him, though I can't really be sure. It's so crowded, today."

"Of course," Kiran replied. He wasn't the type that offered his help when he didn't actually intend to follow through on that offer. He glanced about the area but didn't see the boy of her brother's description.
"I'm Kiran, and this is my sister Xiuying." His sister bowed her head in greeting to Enlei.
"Hm, well, we are close to the food stalls. Do you think he might have gone off to one of them?" Kiran asked, still keeping an eye out on the crowd around them in case he spotted the boy. "Maybe one of them is serving his favorite food, and he got lured away by the aroma." If the boy was lost in this area, maybe he hadn't wandered too far away.

"It's nice to meet you two," Enlei smiled. Were all sister-brother pairs this close? She noted, though, that Xiuying never spoke but rather seemed to use hand-signs to communicate with her brother. Perhaps she didn't want to speak, or perhaps she couldn't.
In contrast to Xiuying's silence, there seemed to be some sort of ruckus going on nearby, and Enlei couldn't help but turn to see what was going on. There was one head above the rest of the crowd; the girl scowled again. Darned tall people, always making trouble. She wouldn't be surprised if Ishtar were involved in that as well, though it was likely that Jianyu would try to keep her in check.
When Kiran spoke up again she looked back at him. "That's likely, I guess.. I figure he might have been hungry, since we haven't had lunch. I don't think he'd go too far, that's true. But what if someone's kidnapped him, or.. or something? I mean, he's just a little boy, and all."
Once again she glanced around. Shan's favourite food was potstickers, and they were quite a few shops around here selling them. Then again, she hadn't given him any money for himself... the poor boy was probably really hungry by now.
Her own stomach was beginning to growl, and she blushed, hoping that Kiran and his sister hadn't heard it.
Today.. had been so embarrassing, Enlei wished she could just dig a hole in the ground and hide there forever.
"Would you mind walking along this line of shops with me? I think he might be at one of them."
Dear Lunaria, she prayed again, please let me find him.

Things were starting to viciously spiral out of control. A...scary woman had been added into the mix that had recently been only comprised on the man with the fluffy boa. Xiu wasn’t sure what to do. Everyone seemed to be getting really heated up and while he didn’t think Sakn should be bossed so rudely around…the redhead did need to apologize. However, Xiu thought that an apology was as likely as the rabbit living in the moon. Apologies were not manly after all. Now that Xiu knew the whole story, he regretted jumping in so soon. Oh well, it was for Sakngea!
The first thing that needed to be taken care of was the woman yanking at Sakn. If she wasn’t careful, she’d probably get a punch in the face!
“Please, please, just calm down miss.” Xiu begged, trying to untangle the woman’s hand delicately. “I’m sure Sakn didn’t mean to bump into you. It is crowed after all, right? And I’m sure he didn’t mean to bump into you either!” This was said to the purple Lunarian a little desperately. There shouldn’t be any fighting during the Festival of Spirits!
“Jianyu?” Xiu asked suddenly, feeling utter relief at the sudden mention of the male’s name. And, lo and behold, the Captain was standing just there! “Oh, thank the gods!” The student sighed, glad to see someone who was level headed. “Could you please tell your friend that Sakn really, really didn’t mean to shove anyone? Right, Sakngea?” Xiu asked of the redhead, tugging his arm rather urgently. They were outnumbered here.
---
Meanwhile, a certain tiger cub was wrecking havoc all throughout the festival. Baskets were over turned and heels where nipped playfully as he lived up the crowded area. Then, the smell of something truly delicious hit his nose. A mouse. The creature smelled so delightful that he began to stalk. Quiet as a shadow, he slunk around the festival looking for his prey.
Having found his dinner, Bai Hu crouched in the shadows, tail thrashing. He waited until the Lunarian with the mouse was close. Then closer still. Then--Bai sprang from his hiding place with a fierce growl that was more of a mewl and pounced the Lunarians leg! He jumped and wiggled as best he could, trying to reach the squeaking prize hiding inside that scaled hand.
