"Well, we'll start simple with the basic slow dance, and go from there, okay?" Scarlett said giggling. "By the time I'm finished with you, the girls at this school will be lining up to dance with you."
Scarlett looked at Ra, trying to picture the clothes he described, holding Chii in his arms. It was a beautiful, dreamy image. She wondered if Ra would give her permission to assist in the taming of the hair. She loved his hair, but for a dance it needed something more. She also pictured Ra dancing the Chicken Dance, making her smile broadly.
"Eri, you know, Eri Hayabusa? He's the Student Council President," Scarlett said with a shy smile. "While you were talking with Chii, Pyper, & Brae, Eri came to the table and talked with me. He asked me if I was interested in helping, so I said 'yes'. I actually wasn't planning on going to the dance at all, but as Eri talked to me, I couldn't say 'no' for some reason...."

((Dude really want to listen to that song but I can't find my MD anywhere ><))
Ra blushed slightly, he very much doubted that would be the case. As long as he could get through one formal dance without making a pratt out of himself he didn't really care how well he danced or what people thought.
"Sounds like a persuasive guy." He said at her description of Eri. "I was thinking of signing up for something. Maybe helping with music if there was a position." He shrugged and drank some more tea. "Assisstant to the head guy...that should be interesting. Just make sure you don't burn yourself out."

"It's not so much that he was persuasive," Scarlett smiled. "He was just so calm. Like willow tree swaying in the breeze."
Scarlett didn't want to think about Eri too much. He was an upperclassman, the student council president, and with her luck-- taken. Eri was someone important, but what surprised Scarlett was that he was so polite and down-to-earth. She certainly wouldn't get her hopes up. A guy like Eri was out of her league: hands down.
"It's the only job I can do, but I'm happy with it. I've wanted to get involved with the Student Council,' Scarlett said sipping her tea, trying to disguise her smile. "I think that's why couldn't say 'no' to Eri, even though I planned on avoiding the dance. It was fate handing me a chance on a silver platter."
"I remember him mentioning music selection for the dance," Scarlett said enthusiastically. "Oh Ra, would you please consider it. I know I'd have a lesser chance of burnout with you there."

"Student council." Ra mused. "Sounds too much like hard work to me." He laughed. "You certainly like to keep yourself busy." He stopped and thought about what she had said. "Avoid the dance? Why? You can't miss out on such a good oppertunity for socialising!"
He drank some more tea and thought about what he had just said. Back in his old school he would have been siding with Scarlett. "I'm definitely going to the meeting. It will be a good chance to get to know people. I have a feeling if I don't get involved I could feel a bit left out."

"I like keeping busy," Scarlett said slowly. "This way, I'm also keeping my brain in shape."
She paused, taking a deep breath. Just thinking about the dance began triggering an anxiety attack. Scarlett fought to maintain control, but figured she better tell the truth, before she lost herself.
"You remember how you told me about your insomnia problem," Scarlett said slowly, her smiling fading away. "I have a different problem, but I haven't found the right way of talking about it... with anyone."
Scarlett decided it was time to come clean about what happened at her last school. It was only fair as Ra had the courtesy of doing the same when they moved in together. She hoped he wouldn't think her crazy.
"The reason I transferred here was because of what happened at a formal dress ball at my last school," Scarlett said staring into the swirling milk in her tea. "Someone spiked my drink with a sleeping pill. As I walked home, a white van drove up and some people grabbed me. I woke up three days later on the floor of an Emergency Room."
Without realising or waiting for Ra to respond, Scarlett went into the details of what happened afterwards. Photographs of her with different boys in lewd acts were posted all over school. Other students began harrassing and bullying her. The teachers at her school did nothing to stop the toture. Many of them saw it a fitting punishment for her digusting and immoral behavior.
"My family, the restaurant, and the emergency room docters were the only people who believed me," Scarlett said, wiping the tears away on the back of her jacket sleeve. "When I told them I didn't do those things. Everyone else said it was 'too convenient' that I suddenly couldn't remember. That's why I'm here. I wanted to be safe, even if it meant moving halfway around the world."
Scarlett hunched over and began openly sobbing. It was such a release for her. She had repressed everthing until that moment. Making such a scene in front of Ra, she tried pulling herself together, but she couldn't stop. Crying felt good. It felt good to be able to feel again.

Ra listened to Scarlett's breakdown in silence. The world was a horrible place sometimes, full of horrible people. His mother heard stuff like this everyday, in fact she heard worse. Stories of rape, abuse, murder, all in the name of religion yet she never lost her faith.
Sighing heavily Ra stood up and grabbed a box of tissues from Scarlett's desk. Sitting down next to her yeat a few inches away he handed her the box. "That's terrible Scarlett." He said softly. "It sickens me how some people act, even more that they manage to get away with things like this. You have this chance though. To move one and start again. I don't think anybody here would do something like that." He paused trying to formulate what he wanted to say in his head. "You can use this dance to help you overcome your fear. face it. You have to go to the dance to see that everything will be all right. If you don't you will spend your life running away."
He stopped and smiled wryly at what he had just said, Rashne Kusani dishing out Psychaiatrist stylee advice. Maybe he should start listening to himself some time.

"I'm so sorry," she sniffed, shaking a few tissues from the box. "I didn't mean to just unload like that."
Scarlett pulled her legs in tightly and leaned her chin on them. She felt emotionally spent. She wished there was a better way to communicate what happened to Ra, but it was one of those things best left as it is.
"That's also why I've been acting strange about Brae," Scarlett said wiping her eyes again. "After you and Chiitra left that night, he begged me not to leave him alone when I tried to leave and change into dry clothes. He grabbed me, and I had a flashback. I was terrified. Absolutely terrified."
Scarlett knew the dance was a prime opportunity to make changes in her life, but she also knew nothing was entirely that simple. She closed her eyes, sighing heavily.
"I want to overcome my past," she said after a few moments. "I hate feeling like I'm not completely alive."

"you can unload whenever you want." He smiled grabbing her cup and standing. "We're roommates. That's what I'm here for."
Gesturing to the tea cups he went to pur out some more tea. "What Brae did was wrong, but he didn't know about your problems. He obviously has enough of his own to work out. I think..." He paused. "I think you should try and talk to him, give him a chance to apologise. As badly as he acted I think he deserves a second chance to be your friend."
Ra placed the cup down in front of her and sat on a cushion. "You can overcome what happened." He said holding the cup with both hands. "You have plenty of friends here to help you."

"I just want to make sure that I have my wits about me when I do," Scarlett said slowly. "I don't want to panic like I did last time."
Scarlett sighed feeling much better. Taking her cup up again, she sipped on her tea. She resolved to talk to Brae once she felt better suited to handle the situation. Scarlett felt better about the dance now, thanks to her fantastic roommate's advice and consul.
"That's why I like you, Ra," Scarlett said smiling. "You're the most honest person, I've ever met."- Fade to Black -
