~New Day!~

User Image

Although Junior was told by Jacob a few times that he was getting a little old for it, the boy still enjoyed coming to the playground during the summer months. It was much more fun when Angelina was there or even Molly, even if the girl had moved away awhile ago.. He missed her, even if she was kinda mean at times, but he was alright! He still had his games and Gatling always kept him company when he really needed a friend – plus.. Emery played with him whenever she got out.. He didn't understand her situation very well, but she was his friend and as long as that stayed fact, Junior wouldn't care even if she.. she was an alien! He smiled softly at the thought that he could ever have two whole friends that talked to him! He held gently the leash to his chicken, the fat hen flicking her head this way and that as she studied the surroundings on their walk. The playground was normally pretty quiet as most kids preferred the river and lake over the hot equipment, so Junior preferred taking her this way where she couldn't get hurt.. and where he couldn't get made fun of for his awkward little pet.

Mitsukai was happy to finally get out of the house and so she of course chose the playground to go to. Her mother was accompanying her since she didn't want anything to happen to her child, and this town wasn't always the safest. Emiko quickly sat down on a bench to read and keep an eye on her child. Meanwhile, Mistukai headed straight towards the swing set. Everyone knew that swing sets were the best part of any park, even Mitsukai's older sister liked swing sets and she was twenty-one! Mitukai had just started to swing when she noticed Junior was also at the park and had a chicken accompanying him. "Hello Junior!" Mitsukai called to the boy from her spot on the swing. "Is that your chicken?" she asked.

While Gatling clucked at apparently nothing, spreading her wings and opening her beak on occasion to refresh under the hot son, Junior's attention had went timidly to the new pair of people who had approached the playground while he walked. It didn't take very much for him to recognize the young blond and her mother, if only because Junior was more used to watching the other kids from a distance rather than up close. Hair normally in his eyes or not, Junior could be said to have pretty keen eyesight out of practice – but, that didn't really matter right now, did it? He backed up a few paces, moving off of the sidewalk and going to the grass that Gatling was pecking at curiously. This wasn't Emery or Angelina, both of which he thought he was pretty friendly with, but.. Mitsukai. He didn't know whether they could actually be considered friends or if she was just nice to him because she had more friends or what! ..But, whatever it was, he didn't really seem to care as she called to him. It took maybe a second of thought before he gently tugged the busty gray chicken closer to the swings.

He looked nervously at the girl before glancing down at Gatling, “..Y-.. yeah.. she's.. m-mine, um..” He swallowed – ah, why was talking so hard?! “H-her name's Gatling – you.. you can, um, pet her, b-but..” He paused again as he looked back at her for a brief second before flicking his eyes to the ground again, focusing on the hen, “She.. she sometimes b-bites..

Mitsukai smiled as Junior approached her and she began to slow her swing to a stop. Junior didn't talk a lot but he was nice and he gave her a flower at the goddess festival that one time! That meant they were friends right? After all, when someone gives you a gift that has to mean they're your friend, it's not like random people just come up and give gifts to you. Then again, the flowers did originate from some random guy at the festival. Her thought process was interrupted as Junior spoke.

"I didn't know you had a pet chicken," Mitsukai said to the boy. The swing had now come to a complete stop and the girl had hopped off to pet the chicken but she stopped as Junior warned her about the biting. "Does it hurt when she bites?" she quickly asked the boy. She remembered sometime last year when she went to visit her father that Usagi had taken her to the pet store just to look around. While there her Usagi had tried petting one of the birds and she got bit, but Usagi assured her little sister that it didn't really hurt her.

What Blaire had said before was true. The island was small, but their were plenty of places to see. Although Reed had seen most of them on his trip with Turner. But, there were spots he still hadn't been. And the playground was one of them. That in itself was pretty strange. The father of a 4 year old child never setting foot on the playground of the island he's been living on for half a year. Erika was never really much of the outdoor type however. And ironically enough, the man's first time at the playground was without his daughter. It felt kind of awkward. But hey, it was quiet and had a pretty nice atmosphere. "Y'know sometimes I can't tell if this island is an old-fashioned farming town, or just your run of the mill place" Reed commented as he looked around the park. Once he spotted some swings he made his way to them to grab a seat. He was a bit tall for them, but it felt sort of nostalgic, "Well I guess this place IS weird after all, but we've already talked about that."

-Blaire Vatonage-

Finding themselves at the Playground was pretty nice. Blaire came over every now and then with the kids, and whenever Rune wanted to go out, but it felt different to be there without children. It made her feel old. She didn't mind too much, because one would outgrow this place eventually. This place... Reed's comment about it had her letting out a half-laugh. "It's got that effect" she added as she stopped by the swings. The island was weird, but Blaire didn't know of any other place as her home. Those two years away proved that and even if it was weird, Blaire couldn't see it being any other way. "Well that's because it's the perfect thing for strangers to talk about." Being the place where they lived at, perfect conversation starter. It was, appropriate. Much better than hounding the other for details of their lives. The girl had been holding the swing's chain for a moment, contemplating that thought before taking a seat herself. "But I suppose flinging tomatoes together gives us above stranger status." With that, the young woman began to lean forward and back, swinging just a bit but staying in place, where her boots lazily keep the swing in place above the terrain.

A strange island. Blaire was right to assume that it was a good conversation starter. It was probably because new people like him were thrown so far off guard by the place that it became all they could talk about. But, that was boring. And besides, Reed had already somewhat gotten used to the way things worked around here. "What a round about way to call someone a friend" he spoke with a more joking tone as he took out his carton of cigarettes. He actually like that word, 'friend'. He took a smoke from the pack and returned the box to his pocket, then took a lighter and lit it. He inhaled for a bit, and exhaled in a way that seemed to relax him. "Though I get what your saying," He then spoke, the pause in conversation wasn't to long luckily, "As our relationship grows, so will our conversations." Like how the girls would always say new things to you as you befriended them in those farming games. "So I guess we'll start with the simple statement," Reed spoke again as he began to rock himself on the swing, "Tell me about your self."

-Blaire Vatonage-

"It's fresh" replied the young woman at that about way comment. She glanced at Reed, watching him take out the cigarette and light it up. The smell was never pleasant, but she had grown someone used to it when she was with her father. It had been a while though, and she found the scent rather nostalgic. Not as much as coming to the swings, but something like that. Of course she was aware of all the hazards smoking brought upon someone but... to each their own. "A simple statement... Let's see..." As Blaire thought about a right statement that fell into the simple category, a shift in the weather had her look up. It had been a simple change in temperature but... "Uh oh..." It was almost childlike they way she said it. A few raindrops had her swing stop, because living in the island had her knowing when the island would be a b***h. "Reed we should-" She had only started her words, standing up and turning to look at Reed when the few raindrops turned into bullets or water and Blaire couldn't help but laugh. It was a hurricane, it was cold, but damn it if she wasn't going to enjoy it. "You better keep up" said Blaire in a louder tone. The rain was getting louder and pretty soon it would be hard to even hear her thoughts. Oh she was drenched... Her house was close, but not close enough to save her from getting drenched. So she'd have to pull Reed on his feet and lead him to their house. It was right there next to them.

Reed was actually looking forward to hearing something from Blaire. To bad fate had other plans. To think a storm would be coming so quickly. It was pretty nice today to. But before Reed could even hear what Blaire was trying to warn him, the rain had come down like someone was dumping a bucket of it on him. He didn't get mad though. He couldn't. Not when he saw his companion laugh at the situation. It made him smirk. He stood up as well and dropped the cigarette to the floor, putting it out with his feet. At this point he knew that he was going to get drenched no matter what, so he wasn't in to much of a rush. Blaire had other plans though. A race huh? "You don't have to worry about me" He called as he followed after her. She seemed to know where she was going. Hopefully it wasn't to far.

-Blaire Vatonage & Rune LeBlanc-

-NEW DAY-

The year was almost ending... and yet again Blaire was on babysitting duty. Well this time officially. Normally it was just Rune and Wilhelm, but today there was an addition to their little troop. Things had been going rather well for her and Reed lately, nothing major, just some actual human contact you know. Anyways he had a few errands to run... so he needed someone to watch over his daughter in the meantime. Blaire had actually been happy to do so. She had been wanting to meet the girl for a while now, and this seemed perfect. Rune and her seemed to take a liking to each other. It was all good! But inside the home with a hyper 3 years old was not the best thing, so the young woman opted to take the two out for a walk, maybe the park? In the snow it would surely be pretty for her and keep them entertained. However on the walk over there, Blaire couldn't help but look at Erika. So... quiet... She probably rivaled Ellie a couple of years back... Maybe this was how Ellie was her age... Eeerie... Rune was not bothered by that at all, in fact happy to have someone else with her, that wasn't her brother. Sure school did wonders for the girl's social esteem, but this was outside of school! It was something else. Period. Now all that silence probably should've been a warning for Blaire... but we all know her instincts aren't the best. "Here we are~ Any place you want to hit first Erika? Your choice" asked the white haired woman with a smile at the child.

Two hours and seventeen minutes. Erika didn't exactly have the brains to figure out how long it had been since she was apart from her father, but her gut could feel it was exactly that long. And she was definitely not happy about it in the slightest. Which is why she was giving Blaire the silent treatment. The young girl absolutely didn't want to associate with the women. Which is why she stood close to Rune the entire walk. Normally Erika would never want to spend time with a lady that her father knew, but Reed had told her to do so. This girl was not one to disobey her father. So here she was, spending time with a woman she wanted gone while her was off with her auntie. The blonde girl frowned the whole walk as she would peak over to Blaire time and time again. If only her dad had taken her with him. She would have been happy to play with Alastair instead of being dragged around by this... This... Well Erika didn't really know what kind of word to use. She was just a toddler after all. Though when the older woman addressed her, she sure knew how to pick her words. "Shut up, Stupid!" She spoke up with vicious eyes. Eyes much like her father's when he was angry. Afterward she clung onto the arm of her new friend and glared intensely at Blaire. The girl wasn't about to make this easy for her.

-Blaire Vatonage & Rune LeBlanc-

In essence, Erika was adorable. Quiet, but adorable. Though perhaps this was her caretaker mode kicking in. That mode, that was so naive and assumed the best in children, often forgot... not all is what they appear to be. So it probably wouldn't be such a surprise to have Blaire's mind play a record scratching sound in her head when Erika said such a thing. With such a look. Could a child even muster that much... viciousness? Oh yes they could... look at Lillia, and she was even younger... "Excuse me?" simply said the white haired woman, crossing her arms in front of her with a raised eyebrow. "That's not exactly nice to say Erika."

Rune on the other hand was a little startled to hear the girl. The yelling sounded like Wilhelm when he wanted something and no one was around, but it was nowhere as... mean as that. Still, since it wasn't directed at the girl herself, she didn't feel threatened, but she couldn't help but wonder what was wrong. She was fine just a minute ago. "Erika...?" Now the moment Rune looked away from the blond and focused on her aunt, who was retaliating in a mild manner, she couldn't help but frown and looked around trying to think of what to do to distract them... Unfortunately it would take a while for the girl to decide. Curse her little indecisive mind!

Normally when a child speaks up to an elder, the confidence they had to say something vanishes as soon as the adult fights back. Erika was no exception. Actually, she was just as docile as she seemed. Like a puppy who barked at something that threatened her. And as soon as she saw the women with a displeased look, the girl sunk back. This was the worst. Erika's small mind couldn't imagine anything worse than the moment right now. Not only was she left with some woman her dad knew but, that woman was going to tell her dad! She was definitely going to tell Reed that the child had misbehaved! All adults were like that. Erika absolutely didn't want her father to think she was a bad girl. Erika was a good girl! Blaire was bad! The girl's cheeks puffed up and she turned a bit red. Her glare still dead set on the adult. Children, just like adults, have the same instincts in bad situations, fight or flight. And unlike her father, the girl was a flight-er. Letting go of Rune's arm and running as fast as her short little legs could take her, Erika ran into the park. Though only to trip on shoe of a boy who walked in front of her. Letting out a small squeak and a thud as her body hit the ground, the girl closed her eyes and began to cry.

Rewinding to a little bit earlier today. The older of the King brothers was assigned to watch his younger sibling for the day since his parents were going out to do whatever parents did. On any other day, this would mean that June would have left his brother off somewhere and would go to the arcade or something. Unfortunately, not today. Today, Ray had decided to become glued to him and wouldn't accept being dropped off somewhere. Stubbornness ran thick in the blood of the Kings, which is the reason why June eventually gave up on ditching the white haired child. So instead he decided to spend the day at the park with Ray. It was simple and could be fun for both of them. Or at least it should have been fun. But when the boy parked his bike and took his brother into the park, he encountered a small blonde girl. And she wasn't your normal small blonde girl, she was a crying small blonde girl. June watched the girl for a second before turning to Ray to confirm the situation.

Now Ray was in a pretty good mood today. He had finally gotten June to play with him! The first time since they moved to the island. So Ray wanted the day to go perfectly. However, it didn't seem like that was going to happen. To think that his day would be ruined by encountering a younger crying girl. Ray frowned, yet felt like he needed to do something. Although, he was still to young to properly console a crying child. Actually, just the idea made him anxious. So much so that he grabbed his brother's arm lightly. It was weird how one crying child could effect the mood of another child so drastically. The white haired boy looked up to his brother with wide eyes, unsure of what to do. "June..." He let out in a small, unsure voice.

Now between a crying girl and a now depressed brother, June was really becoming fed up with the situation. Ray always brought trouble!... Is what normally would cross his mind. However, the crying from Erika stopped him from thinking. The older bog clenched his jaw, and after his brother called his name, he understood what to do. "Alright I get it!" He snapped shaking Ray from his arm and taking a step closer to the blonde girl. He sighed and knelled down to her level. The crying only getting louder as he got closer to her. He stared at her for a second more then put his hand on her head. "Hey, girl," He spoke roughly, but not meanly. This got Erika's attention. Enough for her to sit up and stare at him with teary eyes. June wasn't one for fancy words and pep talks. So instead of all that he grabbed the girl under her arms and lifted her to her feet. "You'll get dirty on the floor," He said, completely ignoring the previous crying as he brushed off her clothes. Erika only nodded, hiccuping and sniffling like most kids do as they try to stop crying.

-Blaire Vatonage & Rune LeBlanc-

Like any young adult watching a child, Blaire only blinked as the child ran away, muttering a very clear "Damn it all..." She was usually very patient with kids, but running after them while they're crying? Well it usually didn't end well... It was normally followed by a tantrum, a bite, or smacking her with whatever toy they were holding. Children were adorable weren't they? At least Erika stood down when she got a bit firm, that she could handle. Before Blaire had decided to catch up with the girl, Rune had done the same, leaving the young woman to simply catch up with them... Luckily the girl met the ground. That was a small mean thought... but it meant she didn't have to chase her. "Erika" said Blaire stopping next to the girl. "Hey, come over here." She sent a smile to the boys before taking the girl's hand and taking her just a few steps away. Letting go of the girl's hand she squatted in front of her, meeting her eye level. "You didn't have to run like that. I'm not bad" said the woman with a small smile. The girl was just being a brat... but she would get to that later.

Following after her little blond friend, Rune wondered what made her so upset. Well sure she had told her aunt to shut up... but that was why she was wondering. If anything her aunt should be upset... and she was, sorta... well she did scold her... sorta... Well when she did reach the girl, she figured it was because Blaire had sent her a look that made even Rune shift in place. But right now she was just asking a routine "Hey you okay?" to the girl before Blaire had come along and taken her away. Which was just fine for her because her focus shifted to her schoolmate Ray and... someone else. "Hey Ray" chimed the girl with a smile. "What'cha up to?" she asked, swaying back and forth a bit before looking over to the elder King. Rune looked up at him for a moment with wide eyes, staying silent for a bit. "...Who are you?" As she asked she was still looking up at him... which to be honest could be a little weird.

Now that Erika was not only calm, but a bit shaken up, she was much easier to handle. In fact, she had no qualms when Blaire had taken her hand and pulled her off to the side. For some reason the girl felt really at ease after the boy had spoken to her. He felt... Very familiar. Though the small girl was far from content. She still sniffled and hiccuped as the woman talked to her. And before she answered she rubbed her nose with her forearm and moaned a bit. Afterward she looked up at her babysitter, "I'm sowwy..." That kind of saying was so cliche for a small girl, but it was how she said it. She had no intention of fighting back at the moment. It would take a lot more then this small scene for her to get over her hatred for the women. However, for now, she would be obedient. "I'm sow-" She began to say again but was interrupted by another small hiccup. Erika was as docile and sensitive as little kids came. She was the type to cling to anyone who was older when she got hurt. The type of child who wants to be pampered when injured. Even if it was by someone she disliked.

As for distressed (barely) child number two, Ray was happy that the girl was taken from his brother's attention. A small spark of jealousy kept him from caring anymore about the crying girl as he scuttled back to June's side. And his attention was completely taken from the event when he saw his school friend, Rune. He waved passively with his usual dull look and inched a bit closer to her. The white hair boy never seemed to say hello, it was easier to wave. Yet, when the girl asked him what they were doing, it forced him to talk, something he rarely did. Ray had to think for a second of what word to use. What were they doing here? It had to be, "Playing?" Ray wasn't exactly sure. Usually June just left him places, so he didn't quite know what they would have been doing if not for the crying girl. Though it didn't look like it mattered what Ray said as his friend quickly changed her attention to his big brother. So he decided to stay quiet afterwards, looking away from the two and staring at the rest of the playground.

And what was June doing? Well after propping up the blonde girl and having her taken by her guardian, and Ray having a friend show up, he thought he would be able to ignore the children. But such a delusion was quickly shattered. Of course the small girl wanted to know him. All kids wanted to know things. Though this one was... Staring at him intensely. Weird. But, he wasn't about to be mean to some brat randomly. Though he didn't want to have to take care of another one, even if they were not crying. "I'm June" He spoke clearly and loudly. The way a ruler would address a commoner, "I'm his brother." When he said the second part he had made the effort to point to Ray, who was, to June, dazing off. This pissed him off a bit, but he wasn't going to make a scene. He looked back to Rune and stared her down a bit. He wasn't one to talk, but, "Your a small one huh? Like Ray," he said as placed his hand on her head. The king's were small for their age, so they weren't used to seeing other's around the same height. Plus girl's were usually taller at this age. Somehow it was refreshing to see a small girl like her.
