Scratch that earlier judgment, they were a neat-freak, and a drama queen queen. Were all golds like this, born to expect all the attention? Was it truly the 'right order' of things?

All he could think of when he looked at the hatchling was that really spoiled girl back home who had been all perfectly pinned curls and pretty frocks with jewelry that was too grown up to suit her, and of course no interest in doing anything other than lording it over everyone else. Her parents thought she was precious. He really didn't like that girl. He didn't like that dragon, either.

This decided, and given the blue seemed to be heading to the girls and the brown wasn't moving, Kyros risked a glance up to the stands. Orange hair was not difficult to pick out. He smiled, and raised a hand to Ofelia in greeting before turning his focus back to the sands... Hum, seemed the brown was stalking them now. Interesting.

Optheli blinked. The blue bypassed the boys and went for the girls? She didn't quite know to think of that. The brown at least went towards the group of male candidates. She shakes her head with a grin and tries to watch all three. It certainly looked as if the other two would Impress before the queen did.

The stalking behavior of the brown was fascinating, if slightly unnerving, and Salin hoped that the predatory impression he was getting from him weren't an indicator of bloodshed about to happen. They'd already had significant tragedy at Trine, and he hoped there wouldn't be any more today, though he had to admit, that was one -impressive- brown.
The blue was clearly not interested in the men, and he wondered who among the girls it was destined for... and who the brown would go to, though like many he let his eyes linger on it hungrily.

A female bluerider?
Saekagi let his attention drift away from the stalking brown, maybe longer than he should have let it, to try and pick out roughly where the blue might be headed, but it was hard to tell with the way it was walking, complaining and dancing around with it's sand encrusted feet.

The blue was having a bad first day, it looked like--nothing was seeming to go right for the poor thing. Akaya watched him carefully, though more with the intention of keeping out of his way than expectation--with his luck, he'd trip and fall and mangle someone. Just bad luck, hatchling clumsiness, or an enduring trait? His would certainly find out...

The queen didn't look any happier to have both groups of candidates occupied, and no doubt to make up for her ruined entrance she'd wish to make a show of her choice. To do that, though, the blue would need to be safely headed off the Sands--at least, that was how it seemed to Akaya.

Ofelia had been pinched another time for good measure as she kept grumbling about dragons, though her face paled a but as she listened to the girl beside her talk about Queens actually mauling people. Did...did that really happen?

"Yer bustin' mah balls 'bout somethin' like that, right? . . . .Right? Please tell me ya are, 'cause that there goldie looks like she could seriously put a tanner down in the dirt. Not so much that blue - is there something wrong wit' it? An' the brown seems okay an' all, so it's well....okay yeah. Maybe I should jus' shut mah mouth and watch."

There was a grunt of approval from her brother about all of that and Ofelia glared at him in spite of it all, her mood still actually pretty light. She could hear faint laughter from people in the Stands over the antics of the trio down below and she did admit to a chuckle or two herself, but mostly she kept quiet. There wasn't much to say and then - she noticed someone from the male's side was waving. Her face instantly tomatoed red, almost the shade of her hair, and she turned away and almost smashed her face into the arm of the girl next to her.

Ahah! So the blue was a after a girl?! That was unusual, wasn't it? Sheridan hadn't yet met a female bluerider, but then, he hadn't met a whole lot of blueriders. The thought occured to him then that it meant that whichever girl it was would be spending quite a bit of time with other women. That was interesting! The miner almost said something about it, but then realized that there wasn't really much of a place for being chatty on the sands.

And then there was the matter of the brown. Not quite as nerve-wracking and muscle-locking as the bronze for some reason, he was about as proud and sure as his larger brother had been: his was in the group somewhere. Maybe in the stands? Eyes swiveled back and he shook his head again. "So many eggs, so many of us, so many of them. Numbers that fold in on each other, it's enough to give you a headache!"

Viskal’s breath caught as the three shells burst, but the blue’s antics made him shake his head in disbelief. He was too anxious to laugh, but as he shook his head in disbelief and awkward smile crooked around his panting mouth. “Ridiculous thing,” he muttered, words more insulting than his praising eyes.

A surge of movement in the corner of his eye drew his attention, but what he was the whole batch of female candidates swinging their heads toward the queen. Their longing was so palpable he actually felt sorry for all the ones that wouldn’t be picked when the gold approached.

Then the brown approached, and he stiffed again. Shards, he was going to be an exhausted mess when this ended. There was too much emotion packed into each moment.

---

K’la leaned forward as the gold egg cracked. Her manicured fingernails crushed the hem of her embroidered tunic in tension, and her heart panged with bittersweet happiness as the dragon trumpeted her presence. When was the last time she had seen this sight at the northern weyrs? She sighed a torn breath with more emotional depth than she usually let herself be seen in public with.

Moira watched from the Stands with the utmost amusement. The little blue's antics were nothing short of hilarious, promising some young Candidate an absolute handful. The brown seemed the most level-headed of the trio, perusing the Candidates as though he had all the time in the world to select his, while the young queen seemed eager for nothing so much as for the others to get on with it. The little Gold looked like a large flit in a snit, all ego and pride, and why shouldn't she be? She was a queen, after all.

“Not at all,” Moira grinned, though she added a wink just to keep the doubt present, “Why, I've seen Candidates practically torn limb from limb when they got between a Gold and her chosen Candidate. All blood and guts and,” Moira waggled her fingers in front of her face and made a squishing noise to recreate what she thought it might be like if someone's brains were squished out through their eye sockets, “They don't l-” Moira's words cut off as Ofie practically buried her face in Moira's arm. Ever curious, Moira stood on her tip toes, searching out the cause of the embarrassment. She saw nothing, of course, and so returned her attention to the sands.

“The blue is going for a girl!” she narrated to Ofelia, her voice little more than an excited whisper. While some part of her still ached to be out there on those sands, within reach of the curious dragonets, Moira could not supress her excitement. Even if they were not hers, they were here. They had endured seemingly endless drama from within their shells, developing in perhaps the most tense atmosphere Trine had known in turns. Yet they had come out strong, loud, and proud; perfect Trine dragons.

And then the Blue abruptly walked into His smearing the dirt all over poor Gabriel.

Mine!! Miiine!! Your Lifth is so dirty! And hungry! I want food and a bath. But bath first!

He reared up and pressed his forelimbs against the girl as the blue strained to look into her eyes. She understood right? And now she was dirty too and they'd have to clean up first!

With the blue done and the boys ignored, the gold crooned sweetly and padded right up to one girl then snort and padded away, walking the length of the line before she shook her head. Hers was here. Or... was supposed to be here, she could feel it!

Frustrated, she snarled at anyone who tried to touch her that was not Hers and instead looked to the Stands.

Abigail could hardly believe her eyes. Two... two were going for the Stands! And... from the direction of the gold's gaze.... Oh no. No. No no no. That... the Weyrwoman pressed face to palm as she muttered something about 'not teaching any lessons' as the Gold reared up and her eyes found Moira's.

Moiramine, you should not be there. Your Serlaith wants you right here, Mine, she is very hungry and your trouble is fixed!

Saykiro watched out of the corner of his eye as the Gold moved to the Stands too?! This has got to be a record. Two dragons going to the stands. He shook his head and brought his eyes back to the brown that was still looking.

Optheli starts to giggle as not only a bronze chose to impress from up here but the Queen did too! What are the chances of that? Really, a queen picking from the stands? She was glad to see the little blue had settled on a girl in the sands. Now it was just left to the brown.
PostPosted: Fri Jul 23, 2010 7:12 pm

Akaya couldn't help but giggle as the blue chose Gabriel--certainly she'd be able to keep him well in hand! And good for the weyrbred girl to Impress, Akaya knew she'd been waiting for it.

The gold did just as Akaya had thought--made a spectacle of her choice, though perhaps it wasn't intentional as Hers just happened to be in the Stands. Wasn't it that Candidate who'd made the scene at the group lesson? She shook her head lightly, chuckling. The dragons chose as they willed, clearly, even if that meant the weyrleaders were going to have a difficult time of it ahead...on the other hand, with a role as a goldrider, maybe she'd apply herself? Akaya couldn't claim to know her well at all, nor judge, simply be happy that the girl had Impressed.

Moira was just about to tell Ofelia that she was joking, when the gold turned and started heading right for them. The blue had impressed, it seemed, but the volatile young queen was marching across the sands.

“Oh what did you d-” she began, rather certain for a moment that Ofelia had drawn the young queen's wrath and that they were about to both have their faces clawed off. Her lips were still parted, ready to speak, when something clicked into place in her mind. It was instantaneous, a feeling of completion that she could never quite have explained. She understood now why they said they could never fully prepare a Candidate for Impression, as there were no words that could fully encompass what Moira felt in that moment.

Moiramine, you should not be there. Your Serlaith wants you right here, Mine, she is very hungry and your trouble is fixed!

For a moment, Moira was silent, staring slack-jawed and wide-eyed into Serlaith's bright blue eyes. It was only a moment, of course, before the young woman was vaulting over the railing with more energy than even a sixteen year old girl had possessed. She did not run immediately for Serlaith, who sat with her wings flared out behind her, but stood briefly on the railing. What followed could only be described as a Victory Dance, which ended with a finger thrust first in S'raid's direction.

“IN. YOUR. FACE!”

Moira hopped down from the railing, and went running towards Serlaith with all the speed that her short legs could provide. She all but slid to a halt, dropping to her knees in front of the young dragon. In all of Pern's history, no girl had ever looked so happy as Moira did just then.

What was Mine doing up there? I am hungry. There is no food up there.

“Well,” Moira said, rising to her feet and escorting her new bondmate to eat, “I had to be up there.”

Well, now Mine does not have to do anything.

As Moira passed O'rer, beaming from ear to ear, she gave him a wide grin and a wink. Trine was doomed.

Two metalic dragons chosing from the stands instead of the sands? Jalarant was willing to bet those from Benden didn't like That! He wondered if anyone else on the sands felt a little bit inadequate, with two snubbing them and finding theirs in the stands?

Ah, well, was best not to dwell on it. It wasn't like he'd had a chance at either.

The Blue took from the sands, and hopefully the poor girl would be able to deal with the messy, unhappy little fellow. Now, if that Brown would just be able to pick....

From where he stood on the sands watching it all, O'rer's jaw likely hit the ground at the speed of light the moment he watched the gold turn her head to the stands. For a moment he thought she was looking at the girl with the shocking red hair, the one who's voice had been loud enough that it was hard to miss, but instead he felt his stomach drop when he knew that wasn't the case. Inside his head he could feel the rumbles of Hitath's pleasure at the Impression of the Queen despite all the major troubles that would be coming with it.

This...this was not very good. This was bad, very bad bad.

If another dragon hit the Stands he'd likely hit the sands in a faint at this rate.

- - - - -

" . . . are...are ya okay?"

Ofelia was going to ask what the shardin' hell was going on when Moira just...got up and said something and got onto the sands towards the gold.

That pretty much summed it all up, and for a moment the red-head sat with a rather doofy looking grin on her face. At least she was safe now, right? And the nice girl had gotten the Gold?

. . . NO MAULINGS, YESSSSSSSS.
