xxxxxFrom his curled position he could hear Rouqie tear at the stag. His eyes snapped open as he realized that the immediate danger had passed, but it wouldn't stay like that. He emerged from his state of paralysis and dived into the ticket. His pale blue eyes watched in pain as the stag tried to scrape her off. Suddenly, a fury overcame him and he charged at the ankles of the animals, going for the weaker front legs rather than the hind and attacked the leg with his needle-like pup teeth. Icarus felt the need to protect Rouqie from the beast even though she clearly could handle herself much better than him.

The stag's antler whacked her in the face, sending her sprawling. Luckily it had hit her with the blunt side of the spoke, nothing sharp, nothing permanent. She saw Icarus attacking it's ankles, brave as can be. It did not have much of an effect other than to drive it into more of a frenzy.
Moving on instinct, Rouqie swooped past and snatched up the orange pup, just as the stag reared again and stomped the dirt where Icarus had been just moments before. She swung the pup up onto her back. "Hold on tightly!" She barked, "you're gonna get a lesson from the best seat in the house!"
She took a few steps to the side, circling the stag. It's eyes flashed in terror. This brought back memories of her childhood, hunting her first stag, earning her place as a huntress.
She lunged out with one paw, testing. The stag trumpeted in protest and backed away slightly. Rouqie snarled again, gaining strength from the warmth that emanated from the pup on her back, clutching on for dear life.

xxxxxIcarus pouted at first, he had so much anger towards the stag and wasn't able to affect it at all. Still, he was incredibly relieved as Rouqie whisked him away from the creature's defined crushing leg. From the perspective of Rouqie's back he held on by lightly biting the rough fur on her neck and holding on using his paws. His adrenaline levels were skyrocketing as he watched the action from her back. He began to glow with warmth as his excitement rose continuously. The memories he was making this day would be burned into his childhood, the moment he had experienced a life or death situation. He grinned triumphantly as he watched the stag back off a bit from Rouqie's approach.

Rouqie took another swipe, aimed at the stag's face...
edit: And got it in the eye! It was too slow to pull away in time and her claw pierced it's eye and left a bloody gash down the side of it's face. It cried and reared, then dashed half blindly into the forest.
Rouqie let Icarus down off her back and barked intently. "Let's finish it!" She shouted, and dashed off after the animal. It wasn't hard to follow, it blindly tore a path through the forest and left a thick trail of blood, so she slowed her pace that Icarus might keep up.

xxxxxIcarus watched in awe as Rouqie claimed the deathly blow on the animal. He yipped happily, his hunter instincts at last kicking in as the metallic scent wafted though the air and into his nostrils. He barked after Rouqie, "Kill it!" He bounded after the creature, following the blood stained leaves and brush. His mind went into overdrive as the instincts which had been bored into him before he was even born steered him towards the deer. Soon enough, burning the energy he had received from the large amount of deer he had eaten earlier, he was sprinting through the ticket. Eventually he was close enough to the disoriented deer to attack. The stag had run into a tree and was reeling backwards as Icarus used a stump as a platform. He leaped off the long-gone tree and bared his canines, pulling his lips as far back as he could.
EDIT: Again he missed and instead went flying past the beats neck into the bushes behind it. He snarled in frustration, and took a moment to recover as the deer reared upwards. Icarus had landed on soft moss creeping under the bush and was fine, though angry.

Rouqie chuckled lightly as the stag shifted its weight at the last possible moment and caused Icarus to miss.
She followed suit and pounced at it's neck, fangs aimed for the windpipe.
Edit: She clamped down hard, hitting her mark with great precision. They stag tried to swing it's antlers at her, or stomp her with its hooves, but was helpless from this angle. Panting and it's remaining eye wide, it's knees gave out and it shuddered to the ground.
Rouqie put her paw on the side of it's face, pushing it into the dirt and exposing its already wounded neck. "Kill." She instructed.

xxxxxIcarus yipped, delighted that Rouqie had taken it down for him and allowed him the final blow. He emerged from the thicket, lightly scratches by the branches and padded over. The look of a killer glazed over his eyes as he saw the helpless creature with wild eyes, "Sorry" He muttered to the being as he tore at the stag's neck. His thin teeth pierced the fur easily and he swung his head side to side in order to finish the being. The taste of fresh blood changed something in him that moment, still warm and bearing the strong smell of metallic. He ripped a piece of its neck away and watched as the source of it's life slowly drained from the beast. It's frantic eyes went dull and the beast stopped moving. A slight sadness held in Icarus' heart and he carefully ate the piece he had torn from the create, his prize for the final blow. He quickly swallowed the piece and looked up to Rouqie for further instructions. In truimph he was trotting around as he waited.

Haku pawed up at Yuma, giggling and laughing. Then he stopped to turn over and look at his new friend. " This is Yuma... Yuma, this is Cratea." Haku told them, before sitting up and smiling at them both.
Yuma laid beside him and looked at Yuma, " Are you lost dear?" Yuma asked politely.
Haku shook his head and frowned, " Her nursemaid is gone so she's alone here." Haku told Yuma, before looking back at Cratea, he examined her before he moved to her and tried jumping on her, to play with the other pup. He just felt the sudden impulse to do so.
Yuma frowned as she watched the two, the sadness of two pups without parents, forced to live life alone... It made her look away in thought. It was really tragic that so many pups had their parents ripped away from them... Why were the times like this? Why is there so much death no these days? It wasn't fair.

 He waited for a few moments, but saw no one who wanted to hunt with them; so with a flick of his head, the massive wolf beckoned the chocolate pup forward. He was no Haven wolf, and so he did not cut his own silent path through the forest. Rather, he moved over and around the tree trunks like so much wind, following the natural path of the forest. And as he moved, he spoke to the young one at his side:
"To hunt well, you must remember that the forest has a life all its own. When we hunt, we move with that life. We become a part of that life, and forget our own." He heard rustling up ahead, and flicked his ears forward. Apparently, Rouqie and the bright child had found something. "Feel the earth under your paws. Feel the way it shifts, and makes noise. Feel the stones under your pads, and make room for them - they won't p***k you then. If you can do this, not even the driest twig will break at your step." With this, he really did step onto a brittle stick, and pressed down for emphasis. The stick made no sound as it gave way under his supple pads.
"Work on this as we move. There are some wood pheasant over this way that will feed us well." A'cuil jerked his head in the direction they traveled, and then fell silent. But still, from the corner of his eyes, he watched to see the way the pup would take to his words.

Kora followed silently, nodding when he told her to make room for the debris and stones on the ground and began practicing as she walked. She found it a bit difficult at first- as soon as she felt a stone her pads wanted to tense up; but she got used to it as they walked. She wasn't sure how A'cuil would react to her silence, but she hoped that he hadn't expected more than a nod. Kora wasn't exactly talkative.

She was noisy as a newborn horse, A'cuil reflected. There was humor in his eyes as he thought it and listened to the rustles and tromping of the puppy. She was improving, though: moment by moment, her rustles grew less and the halted sounds of her pawsteps smoothed. He did so enjoy it when he found those that could be taught.
Her silence was only a perk. A'cuil wasn't much for words himself, and hated to deal with whining whelps during hunts.
"Fallen log," he warned Kora, mentioning it as casually as one might comment on the weather. He leapt it just as easily: one moment, the male was walking through the forest as calmly as you please, and in the next he had hefted his bulk up and over the log in a jump that was almost... graceful. And what did A'cuil find on the log's other side than churned-up earth, a tired wolfess, a freshly killed stag and an excited - and very foolishly dancing - little bright one?
With a sound no different than the wind brushing through leaves, he approached them. "Well, look here," he quipped, amused at the dance and deer together on the ground. "The successful hunters. Tell me, how did the pup do?"

"Very well. He was a natural tracker and very brave. Though his aim still needs work." She gave the pup a tender smile and licked the blood off his forehead.
"He's also learned to howl, as you may have heard." She added with a chuckle. "The killing blow was his and he finished it respectfully." She was unspeakably happy, but she tried not to let A'cuil see. She felt as if she were radiating the same sort of light Icarus did.
"Ah." She added, "I almost forgot to mention he's gained some control over that sunny ability of his. I'm eager to see it grow in the future."

xxxxxIcarus shrunk back slightly from the towering male. Still, yipped happily as he received the praise. He was glad to have succeeded this sort of rite of passage. His first kill was a stag, no need the fact that the adult did all the work. He pushed his head into the lick, once more enjoying the sensation of the grooming. When she finished he felt the need to show off the new ability, but in the presence of the adult male, he shut away the temptation. Heat glowed lightly from him as he stood proud and licked his blood-stained maw.

 Had following the others she watched the young pup take the stag down as she smiled gently she padded over and licked the small pup on top of his head then backed up a bit. "Great hunting!" she told the two wolves as she sat a few feet away from the others, smiling warmly.  After the sound of the howl Departed had gotten to his paws as he padded towards the sound, his ears pricked slightly as he watched the pup his genuine interest in the pup never wavering. He would love to teach this pup his powers.

Rouqie crooned as she licked the remainder of the blood from the pup's face. he seemed to enjoy it too, and that made her happy. He also seemed to have grown beyond the obvious. He seemed more confident, and proud in his accomplishment.
When she was done she straightened up to look A'cuil in the eye again. His glower was seriously grating on her. "Well, we will probably be dragging this thing back to the nearby dens. Have fun hunting... pheasants, was it?" She smiled at Icarus and sauntered back to the stag, it seemed so much smaller in death, like it was puffed up before by the strength of its emotion, now gone it was just an empty shell. But, it was an empty, meaty, shell, so she grasped its antler in such a way that she could drag it and still face forward and begun to move it, which was surprisingly easy.
"You can hunt with A'cuil if you like, little one, I'm going to take this back to the dens." And, she hoped, not to a Departed waiting for them to return.
