I don't have any guides myself- I borrow them from my friend, or use the internet if i need any thing. but I do use them if I really need help, but mostly i like to play the game myself.

When you purchase a strategy guide, often times you get nice artwork along with posters or some other little gift, which usually gets me hooked.
That and they're usually cheaper when bought with the game.

i only really use them if i am absolutely stuck or for like side quest stuff (like finding all the heart pieces in zelda) that i probably wouldn't 100% be able to complete without it. sometimes i will look into faqs for games i reaaly like to just take a look at other peoples like mario kart strategies.
this does make me think of a hilarious way this guy once tried to hit on me. he said that he played zelda and didn't use a strategy guide. apparently i was supposed to fawn all over him but it appeared i missed the memo. it did make me giggle on the inside a bit though.

I normally use guides when I needed them, games such as the different versions of Pokemon, I can give information at the top of my head, other games such as Morrowind, I normally need a guide to get me through a section where I'm lost at, I had gotten lost in this Dwemer ruins and had to resort to a guide, to get the item I was looking for. So for some games it's not bad to have on hand but for others I don't see a point. I'm wanting to get a 100% on my KH2 game so when I get a chance at stores that have the guide I take a look at what I'm need, mostly item locations.

Like Celes, I buy the guides mainly for the art..but I do use them since I am a perfectionist and MUST get everything in the game possible. sweatdrop
But otherwise, it's really up to you. To someone like me, I really like the aesthetics so I'm willing to drop the dough for a book with beautiful drawings, and it doesn't hurt that it's there when you're stuck somewhere or wondering if you actually beat everything in the game. 3nodding

I bought one for Zelda and it was the most god damn confuzzling thing on the planet. after I shunned It for 2 weeks, I tried to use it again, no hope. so I just said NO and played it on my own. walkthroughs on teh internet are better. you dont have 2 pay 3nodding

I honestly only ever buy a guide for the pretty pictures or if it came with anything extra. If I'm genuinely stuck on a game I'll just use gamefaqs or UHS. Half the time the people there are more knowledgeable, and you can just look up the stuff you want and be on your merry little way.

play once, maybe twice
then get one to fully enjoy all the extras the game has to offer
or just go to gamefaqs!

I only buy game guides for Legend of Zelda cause they usually have posters in them that I like. Other than that I don't really see the point in having them cause I rarely use them. I will if I get stuck and have been stuck for a long time. But for that there is internet faqs which are easier for me to get to and a hell of a lot cheaper. Once you buy it and then finish the game, now you're sitting on a useless book that you can do nothing with.

I believe that strategy guides are useful for people who either don't have a computer in their room, their comuter is slow, or both.
Besides, it allows you to sit on your a** and not move except to get some food. wink

Truthfully, I only buy guides for the charaters' pictures. I really like to draw, so if there is any game with good *cough*anime or manga style*cough* art then I buy the game and guide. Then I draw the pictures in the guide only in pencil and enlarged... sweatdrop (Fire Emblem has some really good art BTW)
