Time to grow up

Dark eyes stared silently at the two stones in front of him. They were grey, only a few red flowers were shaken by the upcoming storm. Blink. Blink. A single teardrop ran down the furry face of Jacosa as he turned away from the graves to look at the sky.

What was life actually about? Was it about being happy and then being sad again? It had happened about half a year ago and still it was like yesterday that he heard Ranjit and Andraste laugh. They had left the apartment. They hadn't return. They would never return.

Next time he had seen them was in the hospital. Below white blankets. Dead. Jacosa started to cry. He had never expected it to happen. Who would have guessed that they got distracted and hit a tree? Hit it really hard. And died. They were his parents, although they weren't. That was something he had learnt by now. Still, it was too late. He wouldn't see them again. He wouldn't see Nila and Eichia again. They were still too small so an adoption agency had taken care of them.

His grandmother - Narra - had managed to get him into assisted living. Yvonne, some kind of caretaker, was looking after the flat once in a while. It was a two room apartment. He had volunteered to take care of Otieno, although he couldn't stand the younger brother. But he reminded him of parents and somehow he felt better when he knew he did something Ranjit would have liked him to do.

"I am supposed to find a job now, Mom. Dad." The otter told the cold stones and weeped a bit. "And Yvonne helped me to sign up for internet school. I will continue my education." Did they hear him somewhere? Wiping away the tears Jacosa left the graveyard and went towards the bus station. He was alone now. He hadn't met his old friends for a long, long time, but he missed them. Still his life had to go on without them for now. He needed to earn a bit of money so Otieno could go to a nice school. The blue one wasn't educated at all.

Jacosa sighed. Times had changed.
