Edward dodged punches and kicks and groaned. "What the hell?" He nimbly dodged more and punched a man who had grabbed him. "What's wrong with these people?" He tried to look for someone he knew. "Man, it's a pain not being able to use my sword on these bloodthirsty idiots!" Edward took liberty of barging into a house and going to a second story window. He climbed out and sat on the roof. "How annoying..." He located the red-headed swordmaster and several others. "... this is impossible... how are they going to get out without harming all the citizens?"

User ImageSkrimir really didn't know what the riot was about, but boy, was he glad it was there.

There was some screaming of 'DOGS' and 'REVENGE' and other things that Skrimir couldn't make heads or tails of. But once things had gotten started the fighting had simply blossomed like a fat, stinking peony flower: angry men swarming mindlessly and antlike.

That was good. Skrimir could deal with that, more than he could have dealt with the painful diplomacy he'd anticipated. A man broke a thick wooden switch on him that would have left at least a welt on a lesser target. Skrimir yanked it out of the skinny man's hands and the man came with it: hurled into a nearby pile of hay. Skrimir was good at that. Fighting, that was easy.

Another one came at him with a bottle, and that ruined everything.

One wouldn't think such a small thing would hit the Prince of Gallia so profoundly, but it did. Beorc, he thought, fought with claws of steel, dragonsbreath from magic verses, fangs shot from worked wood and gut strings. Those were their strengths. Not this... junk. These might have been swordsmen or archers, maybe. But where were their claws? Where were their iron hides? Why did they move like this, not at all like soldiers or even warriors? Why did it feel far too much like fighting... screaming children?

He struck the man down with an elbow and stalked on through the fight, mood lost and appetite for this sort of mayhem woefully shrunken.

Skrimir did not know much about politics of this place, and he did not care. But it stank to him where this was a world where mad beorc fought like animals. Something was wrong here.

And it would be unfair to transform, he thought. It wasn't honorable to match the unclawed with fangs. Instead, his foot connected with the next man to strike. He'd grabbed a metal firebrand and it soon went flying-- so did the hands that held it.

Skrimir noticed Lyre by his side. She was doing quite well on two legs; he foggily remembered that she hadn't been known for her combat skills shifted or otherwise. But that was all he really knew. Still, it was somewhat nicer to have at least someone who knew what the real world was with him.

That problem resolved, he still needed answers. And he needed them fast. He took Lyre aside, dodging a stabbing wooden stake. "I don't know you, but I do remember who you are," he said very seriously. "Stay close. Tibarn was here somewhere. And I have questions for him."

A flask of spirits smashed against the barrel ten inches from Skrimir's face. His eyes flashed to the one who threw it. And behind him, there! A fleck of wings! That was where to go.

His knuckles went numb.

To Lyre, "Let's go."

Of course, he'd punched the bottle-thrower out first, and then spoke after. That was just how he did things.

"Hawk King! You'd better explain!"

And loud as he was, the riot was a tad louder.

User Image Oh these kitty ears were fun! She had gathered everything the Chief had informed her of..despite being so distracted, she still payed attention to her duties. Hee hee, Kitty ears~

However, playtime would have to wait. Just what was going on? What happened here? The girl spun, taking in her surroundings. What was once a quiet, discreet town soon became a town full of massacre. The group she was escorting..were they far off? She turned, looking around the crowd till she spotted at least Sue's green hair. By the looks of it, she was being attacked. Kalilah had to help!

The swordmistress tried to dash toward the nomad, but both people from Learania and Adliana were in the way! "Move!! Kalilah screamed, untying the string that held her Wo Dao still in its sheath. With the case still in tact, she smacked one of the man in her way across the head, leaving probably a fairly bad gash at the side of the forehead. Next, was the other one whom seemed to be drunk..so a simple glass bottle crashing against his skull did the trick. Getting through without seriously hurting anyone..or killing them for that matter would be difficult. But surely, Chief Songhua would not appreciate her killing these villagers when they were trying to mend things between Learania and Adliana.

"Hey!" Kalilah turned to the kitty man and the other from earlier. "Your friends are in trouble, are you going to help me get to them or not?" She didn't wait for a response, more were coming after them after all. This would not end would it!

This was all wrong! These people...these people are confused! Kalilah shook a little where she stood, grasping her sword still in cased in its sheath. She opened her eyes and in a swift movement, spun her Wo Dao around her wrist, catching the hilt in her hands. Releasing the lock, Kalilah slashed the air which threw the sheath aside. She flipped her blade to the dull side. If this was going to get ugly, she would do so without any means of killing. It would be difficult...but not impossible.

If she could just get to the others, she might have a chance of getting them out of this mess. Sorting out the entire village would also require the help of others.....she thinks..but they had to do something. Kalilah was in no position to think, she charged at the man that came toward her. Her sword dragged across the dirt and as if the wind had cut through, the glass bottle that was going to be used as a weapon had been sliced vertically in half. The Wo Dao was flipped for just a moment before she flipped it again.

Cripes, this was endless!
PostPosted: Sat May 15, 2010 8:20 pm

As the chieftain started to walk away from the group, something in the air felt bad. The tension began to rise again as the one person who had melted that tension away was now gone. "I hope nothing bad is going to happen," he thought to himself as he placed his hand near his sword. You can never be too careful, especially at this place.

Oujay followed the group as they continued to walk down the streets. He spotted a nomad that stood in front of Sue's horse. "Who's that?" he thought as he tried to get a better view. The nomad suddenly started to yell things about how they killed the Adlians. Oujay saw the nomad take out a concealed dagger and aimed for Sue. "Sue!" Oujay yelled, but it was instantly drowned out. Other nomads began to attack the group with whatever weapon they had and drunkards started to appear.

"What is happening?"
was going through his head as people started to fight, Learanians fighting against Adlians at first but soon they just attacked whoever they were close to. Oujay had no idea what to do as he just stood in the middle of the chaos.

His trance was broken when Kalilah yelled something at them. Oujay shook his head. He knew she was right, he would have to help them. However, as Oujay looked around he knew that he could not kill these people. He would have to stop them without killing them. These people were just citizens, he could not draw his blade at them, it was against his morals.

Suddenly a glass bottle was flying right at him as he had to duck. Oujay can't do much without his blade at he knew that. Suddenly an Adlian with a wooden plank charged right at him. Oujay grabbed his sword and for ready to defend. The guy swung the plank and Oujay parried the blow. Quickly, he turned his sword around and slammed the hilt of his sword into the chest of the attacker, knocking him out.

Oujay felt a relief as he knew he didn't kill the man. He would have to fight for him and his friends. A bottle was thrown at him from a random drunkard wandering the streets. Oujay sliced at the bottle cutting it in half. Each of the halves flew past his head, leaving him unharmed.

There was too much going on at the same time. Who knows when this will end and how it will end.

The girl had devoured the cookie so fast, it was almost as if she had never had a delicious treat like that before. The kitty was surprised, and even more surprised when she suddenly began to pinch his ears. Wah! It felt so...so...weird. It was a good sensation, but at the same time, it made him shudder. Sunil flailed a bit as Kalilah continued to touch his ears.

And then he noted the sudden surge in killing intent. Crap, they were under attack! And all Sunil wanted was to see the nomads and their gers...what had they done to anger these guys so much? Had these people in the guild killed some of the people from here? Unpossible. They were on such good terms with Chieftan Songhua.

The nomad girl had released his ears so she could grab her Wo Dao and he took this chance to tighten the leather bracers (odd for a Laguz, I know) that were on his hands already. He turned, so that he was back-to-back with Kalilah.

Strike, not to kill, but to disarm, incapacitate...whatever it took to make these guys live another day. But don't strike unless under attack. These were the words his master taught him for situations like these, and once again, they voiced themselves in his mind. Just like back when he was in Tellius.

A nomad came at him with a glass bottle. Weapon? Yes. Initiating counterattack. Once more, the words of his master rang through his mind.

Place the upturned fist onto the blade's face (or in this case, the side of the bottle)...Neutralize it with a sudden twist and muscle pump, then focus the force of the rotation into the instant you pay them back full force... No, he wasn't going to use full force.

"Take that!" he said, following the words from the previous paragraph as his fist made contact with the nomad's face. The resulting blow knocked the man back a couple of feet. Well, he'll be feeling that in the morning. Poor drunken bloke. Also, since it was a bottle and he brushed against the side of it, it broke upon contact. He would never try this against a real weapon. And it happened on a spur of the moment. And it's not really a special technique either...just bump the blunt weapon away with the back of the fist, then twist the hand for a punch.

By now, the situation was getting out of hand, and Sunil subdued a few more of the attackers. The sleeves on his cloak were torn near the ends from brushing off the strikes with the bracers, but that was fine...it could be replaced. These nomads...it seemed like anyone was fair game. This was no ambush...it was a riot, and everything was getting caught up in it. It was just crazy. CRAZY, he says!

The nomad girl he had allied himself with was using the sword without the protective sheath, though he noted that she took extra care to make sure that she struck with the back or the flat end of the sword. The rioters were beginning to bunch up, as if trying to split the group. Rioters or not, they were merely civilians, caught up on the hype of whatever that stupid Beorc in the blue bandana was doing. Probably an attention-whore that just riled up everyone's tensions.

Sunil caught up to Kalilah and grabbed her wrist, making sure she saw him before he did so (last thing he wanted was to get hit with the blade. They hurt, nya).

"Excuse me for this. We're gonna get to where the others are." he said.

In a swift motion, she was swooped into his arms, and Sunil crouched.

"Supah Jump!" he said before he pushed off the ground, jumping at least ten feet into the air, flipping once before he landed near Prince Skrimir, Lyre, and Tibarn. He released Kalilah so that she was on her feet again before turning his head towards Skrimir.

"Prince Skrimir...your orders?" he asked, turning his head a little to look at the lion.

If anyone cared to note, his eyes looked a little more blue than usual. Even the normally green eye was looking more blue.

Sephas had quickly gotten bored with wandering the streets, and returned to the area the rest of guildmembers were at. Too many mean glares around town, for his tastes. And just his luck, people were forming into mobs all around him! What should he do what should he do what should he-

There was a woman with a snake's lower body over there. And a rather intimidating looking man in red next to her. They would have to be part of that guild, with the way they looked. And if they were part of that guild, they could defend him! But snakelady. That was really cool. Even if those two couldn't fight, Sephas figured he could always hide behind them while they looked intimidating. So, working off of frantic impulse, he ran towards them.

He ducked, dodged, dipped, dived, and dodged his way around the people beating each other up, and he managed to nearly run into Aruna's tail as he reached his destination. He hardly had time to apologize or introduce himself, however, as a few enraged villagers began to approach with angry faces and even angrier looking weapons.

"Uhh... uhhh..." Sephas fumbled around in his pack until he removed a brown tome, flipping nearly to the front. Showing definite signs of being rushed, he frantically rattled off the incantation, just in time to send a pillar of stone up in front of the closest enemy, just in time for him to run right into it. The mage laughed in victorious glee, oblivious to the others that were behind the first, at least until they were running at him and screaming. Then, in a fit of startled flailing, Sephas fell backwards on Aruna's tail.

Way to fail, kid.

Tibarn had watched Songhua go, nodding his agreement. "We'll meet you there, then," he had responded, and the moment the Adlian chief was out of sight, Tibarn had turned around to face his team, and then was struck squarely on the back with a full bottle of beer, which thankfully failed to break.

"Do not draw your weapons!" he shouted, turning to address the guild members. "Stay safe, stay low, get to the north gate!" He saw Skrimir approaching, and moved to intercept him when the glint of broken glass caught the corner of his eye. The Hawk King turned, whipping his bandage-wrapped hand out, and caught the assailant by the wrist holding the bottle.

"Hey," he said, golden eyes narrowed to the merest slits, radiating the raw power the King of Hawks wielded from them, a sample of what this man with his puny bottle was dealing with. "I like this coat. My wife likes this coat. She doesn't like it when I rip this coat, actually. She just finished mending it last night and is quite proud of her work." The man looked... confused, but was beginning to see that freeing his arm from Tibarn's vice grip was a fruitless labor. "If I were to get home today with a ripped coat, she'd kill me. And so I'm afraid I just can't let you do that." He sighed.

"I'm gonna let you go now, but I know I can't trust you not to ruin my coat with your little glass thing, or whatever else you pick up." He slid his thumb upward suddenly, catching it under the man's pinky, and pushed it up and back, just a bit past the point a pinky should normally bend back to. "So," he said casually, "Just as a bit of insurance, I'm gonna have to take your fingers."

Few men could be as calm as Tibarn could in the midst of a riot.

Few men could make a fully grown beorc man drop his weapon and run home, trailing urine out of the legs of his pants and across the dirt roads all the way there, but there you have it.

Tibarn turned, dusting his hands off, to face Skrimir. "Glad you're here. Don't hurt anyone, but help me clear a path through the crowd. Everyone!" he shouted to the others, "Follow carrot-top!" And with that, Tibarn stepped behind the enormous lion and gave him a nudge in the right direction. If there was anything a lion was good for, it was barreling through everything in its path.

User Image"But never mind that. How have you --" And then everything became consumed in chaos. Catching up with Aruna would apparently have to wait, as a riot broke out. Talking to Aruna had provided a nice distraction for all the glares, but would obviously be detrimental during a brawl. As it was, FD barely noticed the bottle that had been thrown at him and Aruna in time to duck.

While it probably wasn’t the WORST-case scenario, it was pretty high up on the list of bad things that could happen while traveling to Adliana to fix relations between the countries. FD considered what he ought to do in this situation, as he was fortunately very rational under most circumstances (something that came with living over a millennium). Obviously transforming wasn’t an option in such a space: granted, while FD could probably clear enough space for him to be able to transform and intimidate the rioters into, news of a fire-breathing dragon from Learania “attacking” a town would only make publicity worse than it already was… and it was in the shitter, let’s be honest. And Flametongue? FD had set a lot of things on fire in the past: FEFGA’s Manor, Learanian forest, enemies obviously, etc… Setting a town on fire would outdo all of that, and not in a good way (quick of a fix as to this whole riot-thing as that would be since there would be no rioters).

So what could FD do in this situation? He didn’t fight in his human substitute-form. But he saw laguz fighting untransformed, so why not? There were obviously differences between FD and laguz, with him not possessing any physical attributes that would indicate he was a dragon untransformed, but really, did it matter? Aruna’s hissing conveniently scared off a good portion of the mob from the red-haired duo, thanks to many people fearing anything snake-like. Not all were deterred though; as a man with a picket-fence plank came dashing forward FD quickly grabbed a couple of empty glass bottles from a pyramid of them lying near by (someone’s plan to knock them over was his new weapon arsenal), one in each hand, and launched one at the man. Even untransformed, FD still had plenty of strength. As it hit the mobster’s upper chest, the man accidentally impaled his own foot with the plank and hopped off.

Just then, a tan, frantic mage-person ran towards him and Aruna, and began casting a spell of some sort that raised a pillar of stone up from the ground which a chain of people chasing the man crashed into. FD was impressed: although no expert on any sort of magic, he had never seen magic quite like that. His impression didn’t last long, though, as the caster soon after tripped backwards on Aruna’s tail. Still, although they hadn’t made verbal communication, FD liked the guy. The dragon grabbed another glass bottle from the stack and swung it against the newly arisen pillar, breaking off the bottle's end to make a circle of sharp, jagged glass he could use to stab someone if absolutely necessary. “You okay?” he asked, watching for anyone else who might try to rush them, rather than looking at the geomancer.

User Image"Carrot-top?" growled Skrimir, but he didn't expect an answer. Which was appropriate: he didn't receive one, either.

But this was better, he supposed. With the Hawk King at his back (and not the least bit diminished in typical verve as he'd feared), Lyre at his right, and after he'd waved down some other cat that took his left, things were beginning to feel almost normal.

Except for the riot. But unfavorable as it was, it did make use of his talents, and that he couldn't deny.

They scattered upon him, tossed about like wind on a boulder. In that way, Skrimir moved through the ambient, screaming haze. It all was the same to him-- man with a pan, man with a horsewhip, man with a nailed plank...

Skrimir kicked a firebrand that some peasant intended to break upon him, and it went sailing out of reach into a nearby rain ditch. Skrimir managed to grab the screaming man by the wrist and lift him to eye-level. He saw fear and confusion; that was better than stupid fury.

He tamped down ugly memories, remembering when fighting was war and he was that foolish. He liked to believe he wasn't any longer, but Skrimir wasn't sure. The irony was painful, so he threw the man away instead, into the water furrow with the extinguished torch.

He turned his head around, and his hair swept and blinded some unfortunate that he ended up kicking down anyway. "Where to, Tibarn?"

A piece of vegetable smacked him in the face, thrown by a woman from behind cover and too meek to take the streets. Skrimir growled as he saw a few chuckles behind him.

"It's not funny!" he snapped, wiping the juice out of his eyes. "What needs doing here?"

As anybody could expect, peace was not something that would last, ironically on a trip to achieve such a goal as peaceful relations. The restlessness of the people would not be quelled for long, even if a great leader that had watched over them for so long was around to try and reassure them. Songhua was thought to be a 'conspirator', this was more than clear in the angry mob's words. Sure, they weren't the most rational of people, but they were definitely the most dangerous at the moment. Sue was quick to get out of the way of the man in the blue bandana, knowing he wouldn't spare her at all. Before anyone blinked, her steed was rushing through the crowds. No one dared get close to a moving horse, lest they wanted to be trampled and broken.

Tibarn's call to not draw arms was a hard demand to meet. It was a fighter's instinct to draw weapons and at the same time draw blood, but Sue couldn't cut these citizens with a sword the way she did her enemies. She instead wielded the silver sword while it was still inside its sheath, bludgeoning anyone who dare come too close. It was literally 'beating them off with a stick.' That ought to be fair enough warning.

"Follow the ... carrot top?" Sue blinked at the Hawk King's choice of words, expecting someone who literally had hair the shape of a certain orange vegetable to be leading a cleared path to the northern gate. She saw no such person, but she did see that Lion up ahead though, quite formidable in his way of clearing an easy path. That was a better signal than any to follow. "Everyone, stay as close to me as you can. We'll escape in no time."

Lyre was pleased to know that her time balancing trays and tending to customers had a positive effect on her overall physique. She easily squirreled her way through the riot, dodging thrown household wares as well as swinging planks of wood- all the while keeping her position at Skrimir's side, as he had commanded. She snickered only a bit when he was beaned in the head by a platter of rotten fruit, but she breathed a sigh of relief whenever he knocked away drunkards trying to light them on fire with flaming sticks.

The lion was a freakin' plow. It would have been funny to watch, if Lyre hadn't been, y'know, caught in the riot herself. All these... stupid beorc. She wasn't being racist in saying it- it was just, at the moment, the truth. They were surrounded by a bunch of beorc, that were being really, nothing less than stupid. And they were making her ears ache, yelling their obscenities, and then Skrimir was yelling and she was in close proximity, so that didn't help either...

"The North Gate, Prince Skrimir- KYAAAAAAALETGOLETGOLETGO!" she shrieked as someone managed to grab hold of her tail, taking her by surprise with a sharp tug. She whirled and smacked the individual with an open hand- it wasn't strong enough to do more than leave a red mark, but it surprised them enough to let her go. She snatched her furry appendage back and stumbled forward, grabbing onto the end of Skrimir's white shirt sleeve for balance. She let go after a quick moment, with a scowl on her face.

"Like I said, The North Gate. Just keep going," she said. Oh, if only it wouldn't cause more disruption for her to just shift and take off... she was close to just transforming and sprinting to the far end of town and out, but she guessed that no one would really be too appreciative of her if she did.

The hostility was making her headache worse, and nothing Sue, Tibarn, or Chief Songhua said or did was helping to alleviate it. Something else was causing the animosity that screamed danger, that called for her to flee, to shout some warning, but what? What was causing the danger?

Simply put, human stupidity.

“Learanian scum!” someone shouted. That person proceeded to yell some more and then draw a knife, and all heck broke loose.

In seconds, their group was right in the middle of a full blown riot. Bottles, both full and empty, were thrown, glass shattered, planks of wood grabbed for use as weapons, and the riot only worsened. Ninian fought the panic that threatened to overwhelm her, the panic and the pain creating enough of a balance to keep her sane for the moment. From somewhere, Tibarn shouted an order not to draw their weapons; Ninian had completely forgotten about the special scarf still in her bag. She ducked quickly before something hit her, her arms wrapped around her head. Glancing up, she darted forward, trying to stay close to the others even if that meant getting closer to Aruna. There was no time to think, only to act. Tibarn shouted something about following . . . carrot-top? . . . Sue shouted something, but she couldn’t hear; everyone was shouting all at once. A bottle exploded at her feet, sending its alcoholic contents everywhere, including all over her the bottom of her dress.

Almost tripping over someone lying on the ground in her haste to get away from the glass, she didn’t see the bottle flying toward her from behind, could not duck in time before it slammed into the back of her head. Ninian fell forward, landing hard on the ground, her vision blurring, going black. . . .

She pushed herself up onto one elbow and one hand, shaking her head to clear it. Slowly, she rose to her knees. Someone had given the command not to draw weapons, but . . . it was a tempting prospect. She clutched a hand to her chest, wincing as her nails dug into wounded flesh; the palm of it was bleeding from where she’d landed on it.

Crud. So much for that; how am I suppose to fight back with injured hands? she thought, thinking of Briseschal and scowling. The movement felt odd; Ninian had probably never scowled before. She sighed, the winged man's order a hinderance even if the intent was to not prove the rumors about the Learanians true. Let's just get to this North Gate then, before she gets me killed along with herself. Hurriedly, she removed a two short strips from her bag and wrapped them around both of her hands, just simple bandaging for the moment, and made a mental note to properly treat the scrapes later, when there wasn't a riot going on.

Swiftly, she stood, staying low and darting in and out of the crowd, making her way toward the mounted rider, the bird man, and the orange-haired burly man in front of him. It'll be safer with those who can fight with their hands at least. That's the best I can do for now, besides not getting further injured.

Unlike his mage-friend Sephas, Akihi wasn't quite as enthusiastic about the whole trip. Although he initially agreed to go, he was finding himself regretting it rather quickly, though he did not vocalize this. After all, it was better than some of the alternatives; he could be babysitting Amara. And she was at the age where her curiosity was still growing and she was beginning to learn how to write. And, through the occasional rant he'd hear from his sister, it was one hell of a time to be in the company of that five year-old girl.

Traveling to another country and getting attacked by random people definitely beat the babysitting job. Clutching his simple Wind tome close to his chest, he glanced around with a frantic expression on his face. To defend, or not to defend . . . ? Attack, or just dodge?

Possibly risk the wrath of Alihi if he somehow started a war by attacking (she liked to rant about tacticianing), or saving his skin from harm?

. . . Once again, the choice was clear. He jogged over towards where he saw his mage-friend, stepping carefully around broken glass and other things. Offering his hand to the fallen Sephas (after someone nearly stumbled over him), he spoke for the first time since leaving Learania on this insane trip. "Get up. . . ! I think I heard someone telling us to follow someone. . . ."

Edward jumped from roof to roof. Keeping an eye on Skrimir as he barreled his way north. One of the mobsters spotted Edward on the roof and started throwing bottles and rotten vegetables at him. "Of all the-" He was cut short as a bottle shattered nears his leg. Edward cursed and drew his sword. He sliced bottles and vegetables into halves or pieces and he hurried towards the North Gate.

User ImageAruna disliked fighting physical battles but she hated it even more when she couldn’t harm her enemies. She was forced just to trip the villagers who came into range of her long tail. These idiots needed to stop their useless blind attacks. Honestly what good was it doing for anyone?

The nagini sighed with disgust as she toppled another drunkard. Just then she felt something run into her that wasn’t her own doing. Turning her attention away from the brawl, Aruna noticed a young man with a small black ponytail had collided into her scaly lower half. She growled at the annoying pest.

Suddenly something caught her interest; that spell the boy hastily casted. The tome he held looked similar to the book Ganon had found in the Sentrian desert during the harvest season’s fiasco. This mage proved he knew at least a bit of earth magic. Aruna was intrigued to say the least. Perhaps later he could decipher the mysterious spell book she possessed.

And then Sephas ruined his impressive moment by falling backwards onto the hostess. “Hey! Get off,” she hissed loudly at him. An older mage appeared and offered his hand to help the geomancer up. This new person didn’t seem to regard FD and Aruna before he spoke of some sort of retreat. Ah finally. They can get out of this unpleasant mess. Aruna would follow anyone to get away from the nasty townspeople.
