"My daisy, you make me go crazy, forever amaze me.
Now let's let the day go lazy."

The bullet struck the mirror behind Reine, completely shattering it and adding to the chaos. Reine's face stayed determinedly in her hands as another creature stepped through the massive hole in the wall, waving a massive fan at the quaking dust.

"My my, what a beautiful place you have, my Lucy!" The newcomer cooed almost obnoxiously as she picked up her delicate dress and stepped over the rubble. "But so dark and dreary! My my! Such darkness does horrors for a complexion such as mine!"

She waved her fan, and immediately a skylight appeared in the cieling, allowing the morning sun to pour in even more as the dark blue carpeting turned into a deep shade of pink and the dragon/phoenix headboard re-carved itself with butterflies and orchids.

"There! So much better!"

"Why are you even HERE, you meddlesome brat?!" Reine finally hissed, lifting her head out of her arms and pushing herself off the vanity into a stand, kicking a block of wood away from her. The newcomer fanned herself idly, not a shred of splintered wood or disconcerting dust coming near her. Almost as if she was protected. "I was in the middle of something, you stupid, stupid girl!"

The girl scowled cutely, continuing to fan herself as she smoothed out the solid folds of her dress while her tail waved methodically from side to side, at first seeming simply part of the dress.

"My name is NOT stupid girl!" She snapped, a flicker of evil flashing across her eyes, marring the otherwise perfectly innocent face as the fan snapped closed with an oddly metallic sound. "It is Carice Laur, as you know perfectly well, Lucifa! And as for the intrusion..." With another well-practiced snap, the fan had unfurled again and she continued to fan herself, gazing at Reine and Chris from over the top of it. "The reason for it is because you were getting into something. You're attracting quite a lot of attention you know. Because let's face it." The irksome fan snapped closed. "You're a loose cannon. You belong to no faction, no demi-god, no demonic warlord - nothing. No one owns you and no one controls you. The higher-ups are beginning to be concerned about your... tactics." That damned unfurling sound again. Reine scowled.

"So what, you just came here to warn me about something I already knew?" she snapped, scoffing. "Thanks, but no thanks brat. I don't need your warnings."

Carice gave a wicked smile.

"Oh, it's not a warning." Snap! "They're on their way right now. The Controllers. Should be here in a few days, if you don't leave now. Find a new..." she kicked a chunk of wood out of the way idly with a delicate-looking toe, not a hair out of place. "...place of choice." It was then she decided to acknowledge Chris, and smiled, all sweets and sugar again. "Oh? And who is this adorable little-" she stopped mid-sentence, sniffing the air as Reine smirked in satisfaction, crossing her arms. Carice huffed, then stomped her foot childishly. "Oh! No fair no fair no FAIR!" She fanned herself furiously, her scowl deep upon a pretty face. "No fair at all! He's already dirty! Already so, so dirty with sin!" Embarrassed, she hid her face behind the fan. "Ugh! No wonder you haven't killed him yet! He's a Sinner!"

((Lol I love these two. <3))

"My daisy, you know what I'm after- your musical laughter.
A more beautiful disaster..."

((They seem almost polar opposites XD

Minues the charm and demonic seduction razz ))

"Pleased to make your acquaintance," Chris said wildly, his mouth keeping up for him while his brain could not. He brought his arm up and wiped his mouth, where a crystal of glass had meandered past his lip, and eyed the tail thing warily, keeping a tight grip on his Glock.

"Mind introducing me to your friend here?" he asked, catching more or less up to speed. She wasn't like one of the demons he had ever seen before. Carice seemed more proud and... shallow? than he had previously known. Not that most demons showed much depth to them before you were lost to them. Her dress seemed almost to flutter, like butterfly wings, and it gave the illusion that the dress was a part of her as much as her tail was. He sensed the tail was as lethal as it was elegant. There was also a sneaking suspicion hovering over him that her fan wasn't there purely for decoration either. Every demon had to have some form of weaponry. Just because he couldn't see it didn't mean that it wasn't there.

"My daisy, you make me go crazy, forever amaze me.
Now let's let the day go lazy."

((Lol, yeah. True.

But they pretty much are. <3

You need to make more characters. Otherwise mine will swamp yours. Not that Chris is complaining, I guess. xD))

Reine rolled her eyes in annoyance as Carice's long eyelashes fluttered wildly from behind the fan.

"That's the brat-

"Carice Laur-!"

"And she's one of Vanity's daughters." Reine crossed her arms and leaned against an end table as Carice fluffed at her hair pointedly, the pink-flavored demon looking incredibly smug. "She's the pampered one of the children."

"Just because I'm pampered doesn't mean I can't do my job, thank you very much!" The demonness snapped along with the snap! of her fan. Then she calmly opened it again and continued to fan herself. "Besides, who are YOU to talk, you filthy merchant of death? You have no warlord to your name, no god, no ruler to be proud of! You're just there! Floating like some meandering, poisonous fungus in the Bay of Fire!" She huffed as Reine's scowl deepened, but she made no move to stop the child's self-absorbed rant. "I, however, am THE favorite of my demi-god, the epitome of my sin, and destined for greatness." She pointed the closed fan at herself for emphasis as Reine simply gazed at her with apathetic eyes. Then Carice pointed the fan at Reine. "And what are YOU? All that experience and all that age, and nothing to call your own! You might as well be worthless, Lucifa!"

THAT struck a chord. But not in the way Chris would think.

Reine's eyes darkened.

"That's quite enough, brat!" She snapped. "How DARE you call me by my name?!"

Carice was sweet again. "But oh, Lucifa..." She grinned from behind her unfurled instrument as Reine's fingers silently curled into fists. "It's such a suitable name for you. Lying, misleading, misinforming, and absolutely assuming. Completely and utterly fake." She smiled sweetly. "Just like you."

Enraged, Reine leaped forward, changing into her blue tiger form in midair, and sought after Carice's throat. The other demon dodged by transforming into a brightly colored, bio-luminescent butterfly, which shown brightly even as it fluttered deeper into the room, floating nearer to Chris.

As the big cat turned, the butterfly transformed back into Carice, who fanned herself heatedly.

"How DARE you! Attacking the person who took time out of their day to warn you of your impending doom!" She cooed dramatically, placing a hand delicately on one perfectly-curled lock of hair. "You should be punished."

Suddenly needles fired at Reine, and she dodged, leaping upwards to land onto the bed, which was covered in splinters, glass, and chunks of wood from the previous explosion. However, Carice hadn't moved- it was impossible to know where the needles had come from.

The big cat growled deeply in her throat.

"You've overstepped your boundaries, little girl," Reine snarled dangerously. "Leave. You weren't welcome before, but you're simply despised now. Get out. Before I make you."

Carice paused, thought for a moment, then snapped her fan shut and straightened.

"Fine," she stated simply. "If you want to be stubborn and completely and totally rude, fine. I'll leave. Meanie."

Then she looked over at Chris, instinctively smiled at the pretty face, raised a hand to touch the soft skin, remembered he was a sinner, and immediately paused in her movement. Her perfectly-manicured hand hung, suspended, in the air next to Chris' head for a split instant.

So she covered up the movement by simply brushing away a piece of wood that had settled on his shoulder, smiling lightly and taking care not to actually touch him.

"Oh, if only I had gotten to you before the sin did!" she pouted cutely as she did so. "We would've had so much fun!" Reine snorted in the background as Carice continued cheerfully. "Well, keep watch on your jewels human, otherwise you might not have them for long." Then she reached down, and patted the gun he held lightly with the barest amount of the skin on her fingers. "And make sure to keep that shiny. It looks like a fun toy."

Reine had had enough. She leaped off the bed.

"GET OOOOUT-!"

Carice twirled in place, and her body dissolved into a massive cloud of those same shimmering butterflies, glittering in the morning sun and shining brightly with their own light as they swerved around Reine and poured as one body out the whole in the wall and into the sky.

Reine chased them to the opening, changing into a human mid-leap as she did so, and watched them disappear.

At first she was angry - seething - but then the adrenaline died down and she crossed her arms, hugging her elbows and letting her weight settle on one hip as she looked up at the sky.

The Controllers... she thought, suddenly very serious. Not again. When will they ever learn...?

((I suppose so. I'll get to work then ;D))

Chris, meanwhile, slipped out the bedroom door with his Glock and Carice's butterfly touch on his skin. He had everything he had come for and heard it all before he left. The Controllers sounded interesting... And, frankly, ill-thought. How exactly was one supposed to control a demon? There were rules, he knew, rules where a demon belonged to a sub-faction to give their demi-god pride and minions. Demons who went out solo usually grew to become demi-gods themselves if they wrought enough havoc and charmed enough followers. There were thousands of demi-gods now, though. So any solo demon was to be eliminated. Hell was becoming a crowded place.

Whatever. It's not my job to worry about it, let them fight over their own flame-infested patch of brimstone.

He kept cautious and quiet, not caring much about Reine--Lucifa. Lucifa coming after him. He was out in the open now, where mortal eyes could watch and see, even at a distance. Attention on her demon-house, her place of operation, would jeopardize her existence on Earth. The Controllers wouldn't have to step in if mortals found out demons existed, manipulated them. The demons in the human realm themselves would tear her limb from limb for ruining their contest, their chance at fame.

But Chris didn't doubt that Lucifa had her own way of maneuvering her chess pieces. She could put them wherever she darned well pleased.

His mind drifted back to Carice and Lucifa's earlier conversation. Vanity was an old and well-known god, and Carice's appearance was testimony enough to that. Her personality, though, made Chris wonder if he was able to tolerate her enough to get on her good side or if he would be annoyed enough for his volatile temper to show.

"My daisy, you make me go crazy, forever amaze me.
Now let's let the day go lazy."

Lucifa turned her head to see that Chris had disappeared, and rolled her eyes.

Whatever. She thought, turning back to look at her backyard. He isn't my concern. However... Her eyes flashed, and then narrowed. If the Controllers find him...

She turned to look at her open door again.

Oh ******** Lucifa, don't do it - don't be an idiot-

She leaped out of the hole in the wall, her body morphing into a hawk midair as her broad wings caught a warm gust of wind, sending her sailing upwards into the air as the hole smoothed closed behind her.

Flapping upwards until she was high in the air, she circled around, looking down with her keen eyes.

Spotting him exiting the grounds with his clothes and weapons in hand, she spilled the air from her wings and dived down into the branches of the surrounding trees, fluffing up her feathers as she gazed down at him.

She wasn't exactly sure why she was following him. Something about the Controllers, but then again, what would they want anything to do with a Sinner that merely ******** the succubus and helped her commit the murder of some drunken idiot human? It wasn't like Chris knew anything about her.

Ah, but if HE ended up attacking one of the Controllers first, then they'd have to retaliate.

But then again, why would that concern her in the slightest? In fact, if he got into a fight with a Controller, that would give her even more reason to leave, because then one slip in her mask of normality - the shield that prevented her energy from being felt unless one knew exactly what to look for - would have a Controller so nearby directly on top of her. It would almost be the same as if she had jumped in front of the hunter-demon screaming "HERE I AM HERE I AM!! COME ON AND TAKE IT LIKE A MAN, YOU SON OF A b***h!!" It wouldn't be suicide, but it'd be pretty ******** close. Especially if the Controller wasn't alone.

So really, she had no reason to follow him. No business doing so.

So she hopped to the next tree branch, silently wondering why.

"My daisy, you know what I'm after- your musical laughter.
A more beautiful disaster..."

((Maybe, if we're still in touch in a few years, we can meet and go to New York for a Les Mis Broadway Production ;D))

Chris sat down at the curb and pulled out his cell phone, leaving his Glock to sit beside his foot, in quick reach. The morning *cough* was so still and quiet, you could hear the ring ring of his phone as he called someone.

"Hello?" A woman's voice, the medium pitch of an equally balanced life, the tone of a happy person who enjoys the one life she has to live.

"Addy, it's me. I need a ride." He told her where he was, and hung up, putting his cell back inside his jacket pocket. "I know you're there, Lucifa. Hawks don't hang around such an estate. There are no mice." He looked up to see two white dots in black beady eyes of a bird's, the growing dawn lights reflecting in those foul eyes.

((I'd love that. biggrin

And it's morning, lol. xD))

Lucifa's feathers ruffled in annoyance at being found, so she silently opted to change into something... better.

Her form continued to shrink, and her feathers changed coloration so that she became... a sparrow.

And a lot cuter. Definitely a lot cuter.

Chirping in annoyance at Chris, though it sounded like a happy, cheerful banter to the sun, she left the tree she was sitting in and pointedly sat on his head, chirruping a couple of more times before getting comfortable. Just to annoy him.

((So let me see... is your controller like, second in command of the squad, but wants to be treated like a leader? Is that how her mindset works? =o))

((Psh. I knew that.

And not really, she's the latest member, so she's got absolutely no seniority, but she's arrogant lol))

Chris reached up his hand to grab the sparrow in his hands and squeeze it pointedly, but she hopped out of reach and continued to annoy him. "Why are you even here?" he asked in annoyance. "Don't you burn in the sun or something? Your hours are from midnight to six, you aren't getting paid overtime." His voice was low and annoyed, but not vexed. He was simply irritated that she was there. "Can't get enough of me, eh?" It was almost as if they hadn't just tried to kill each other.

"Who are the Controllers?"

He saw a car crest the hill a little ways away, but it wasn't Adeline. He pulled out a cigarette and cupped his hand around the flame while it lit, then took a quick puff, waiting for an answer.

"And if you chirp, I swear you're going to have half your little birdy organs." An empty threat, he was too lazy to actually do anything.

Adeline rolled out of bed and got morning-ready within minutes. She hadn't badgered Chris about what he was doing out in the middle of a multi-million dollar neighborhood and simply agreed to give him a lift out of there. The first time they met, she realized she would have to learn more about him as things went along. He wasn't the type of person to spill his guts all at once or immediately, even to someone he had known and depended on for a year. Although she couldn't rightly say he depended on her. He seemed more than capable of taking care of himself.

But she was growing resigned with the way he was so tight-lipped about everything. He was such a mystery, which was part of her attraction to him, and she felt like he needed somebody, for he had no one else that she had ever met. He vaguely knew Bastian, but they had never met before. Chris had just listened to tales of her German friend she had grown up with in France.

She grabbed her car keys from the counter, as well as her wallet and a book just in case. She had been asked to pick up Chris at various locations, and half the time she waited hours before he actually showed up, bruised and tired. She never asked what had happened, and usually the car rides home were quiet ones.

She opened her garage and slid into the driver's seat of a beautiful, silver lamborghini, courtesy of her father, started up the car, and drove off towards Chris's given address.

"My daisy, you make me go crazy, forever amaze me.

((Gaaaaaw, okay.

Have fun! <3))

Reine fluttered from his head to his knee, changed into a tiny screech owl, looked him in the eye, and gave him a single, solitary owl-chirp/hoot. Just to annoy him.

Ruffling her feathers, she clacked her beak and shifted from foot to slightly, making herself comfortable.

"Right, you wish," she replied mentally, this new voice much higher and easier on the brain than the one she possessed while a tiger, but deeper than the one that she would've had had she spoken as a sparrow. She rolled her massive eyes. "Maybe if you weren't so interesting, I wouldn't have to stalk you to get myself off." She shook her feathers, clacked her beak again. "Meh. Controllers are demons under the demi-god known as Control, obviously. They're responsible for keeping everybody in line and making sure everyone is owned by someone. They kill off freelance demons who belong to no demi-god, and who work for their own personal interests." Another restless bird shift where she stood on one leg. "They've been trying to off me for years now. Never succeeded. The reason I'm such a threat is because I'm so powerful. If a demi-god managed to persuade me to join their ranks, that would give them a distinct advantage over other demi-gods of their rank. The Demonic Order and Control are afraid that if that happens, it will ignite a global civil war." She shrugged as best she could as an owl, looking impeccably adorable. "It doesn't really matter either way. I have no intention of joining some weak idiot demi-god. It would cramp my style. Those assholes just don't seem to realize it."

"If these controllers are so strong, and I'm assuming they are since they have to keep the rest of you in line, why don't you just join them?" They were by no means friends, yet Chris couldn't help his lips pulling up at the corners from her owl-shrug.

Adeline pulled up to the curb in front of the driveway of a huge, two-story, white-bricked house. As usual, there was no one to be seen. Where are you? she asked mentally, singsong.

"Chris, I'm here," she texted. Usually she would call him, it was faster. But sometimes he never answered, and she got the distinct feeling that his cell's constant ringing served as a distraction at best.

Chris pulled out his cell phone, still vibrating, and flipped open the screen. He stood up abruptly and put the phone back into his pocket, hoping to kill two birds with one stone (ha!) by knocking that owl off his knee. He didn't want Adeline dragged into this, so he took his time walking to her car and hoping he'd get enough answers to understand more of the demon world before he had to shoo Lucifa away.

"My daisy, you make me go crazy, forever amaze me.

The owl squawked in irritation at the rude shift in position, flapping mightily to stay in the air before flying up to settle on his shoulder, her talons digging pointedly into his skin as she huffed angrily.

"I don't work for brainless demi-gods," She snapped, her beak clacking. "It goes against my pride and everything else I stand for. Besides, the Controllers hate my guts. I've killed too many of their men. Even if I wanted to join them, they'd rather see my blood spilled all over the ground. Control feels the same way. Ooooh..." She gave a curious hoot as he began to leisurely walk down the driveway, the car not yet in sight. "Where are you going exactly? Got a plan, got a car?" She hooted again - this time in excitement. "Hoo-HOO!"

Chris winced slightly, but kept silent. He didn't try to pull her off either, he'd once seen zookeepers bring an owl to school at assembly to teach them about animals. The owl broke a wooden broom handle an inch and a half in diameter with only its jaw. Beak. Thing.

And the trainer was equipped with a shoulder guard where the owl rested on its trainer. At least he had the leather jacket, although the pricks of her talons needled just barely past his skin.

"Maybe you should join Pride then," he said absently, glancing down one street and then the other, wondering in which direction the address was. He sauntered off in one direction, letting his instinct lead him. If he didn't see Adeline's car soon, he'd just turn around. There was nothing to lose but time, and he had learned to be patient.

"I'm going to meet a friend of mine. I needed a ride." Oh, if only Adeline had been there to hear that first part. Sometimes she wondered if he considered her a friend at all.

Reine seemed to notice it too. She cocked her humorous owl head.

"Really?"

She leaped from his shoulder, changed in midair, and became a gorgeous cat with a beautiful coat that carried the faintest dark blue sheen. She sat in front of Chris, blocking his way as she gazed up at him.

"Correct me if I'm wrong - I haven't exactly had the most experience with this sort of thing - but is this friend an actual FRIEND, or..." She cocked her head at him. "Just a tool like the rest of your knives?"
