Dreams full of passion and heat dominated Mersi's mind as consciousness crawled lazily and reluctantly awake. Before she even opened her eyes, a blush crept onto her face. Stupid dreams. That activity wasn’t her reality. Not in any way, shape or- OWW!! She inhaled a gasp when she moved, pain shooting through her body as though she had received a beating while she slept. What had happened? Slowly, as she looked down her body, it came back to her. Kincaid, that sly male, drew her in with promise of something new and amazing; the flowers that had left her paralyzed and vulnerable; the hit on his face and the chase. Well, he hadn’t actually hurt her during her paralysis… Her eyes lit on the bruises and marks on her body, eyes going wide. And then, the most obvious ache kicked in. Her face flushed completely red. The aromas, what he’d been trying to say before they had been lost to passion… Her eyes flicked to the small burning platform in the center of the room, only a short distance away. Damn those flowers! She didn’t want anything to do with flowers ever again! She started to push herself up, but immediately dropped back down with another gasp, grinding her teeth. Everything seemed to hurt, her skin sensitive and muscles sore from unusual and drawn out exercise. She started to growl, but even her throat ached, dry and scratchy from overuse. What had he done to her?! And… what had she done to him? She glanced around the room, eyes dry from the smoke, but the male was nowhere in sight. He probably knew that his life was now at risk. She would never… They couldn’t have… She couldn’t deny the ache within herself though. She closed her eyes, wrapping her arms around herself, ignoring the fruit and water. She felt even worse than when she had been immobile. Her chest was heaving to keep the rare tears away, fighting between wanting to kill the male, but knowing that he wasn’t the only one to blame. She had been the one to knock those herbs off the wall…

"I've done something horrible." Kincaid whispered as he leaned against the cool wall of stone that made up the small hallway leading to the room where it had all happened. He could feel Mersi in there and that made him feel even worse. Was she crying? Plotting revenge? Raging uncontrollably? Still sleeping innocently? (The last Kincaid doubted.)
He felt a hand on his shoulder and the foxtaur sank even lower against the wall. "What am I going to do?" His hands covered his face. "I was pure evil yesterday." Never before had his ability with flowers and herbs gone that far.
"Not purposefully." His elder sister's voice was soft as she gripped his shoulder. "It was an accident. I'm sure that things will be okay, Kin. I know you, there's not a drop of evil in that soul. Maybe some really cruel humor and a weird sense of curiosity - but you just abused yourself, not others. I've never seen you put someone up to something without having tested it first. Do-do you want me to talk to her?"
"Don't!" Kincaid shook his head at Reisa and pulled away. "This is my problem - you shouldn't even be here." He ran two shaking hands through his hair, "I can't believe you picked today to actually worry about me. You should know that I won't go and randomly poison myself - I always leave signs for you in case it does go wrong."
The other foxtaur sighed as she tossed healing herbs at him. "How are you going to solve this then?" She frowned as she read his expression, "You're going to make her hate you then? Take the blame so she won't worry? Make her try her best to forget? Idiot."
He shrugged at her - who knew what he really had in mind? Listening to her sigh and go up the steps, Kincaid finally turned back to the doorway. Taking a deep breath, he pushed against the door that lead to Mersi.

As soon as the door started open she pulled herself up and threw the pillow at the door. The soft -biff- it made on contact was very dissatisfying. So she picked up the water bowl and threw that next. She wanted to scream, to stand up and charge Kincaid, about to be vulnerable within the doorframe... but her heart wasn't in it. He wasn't the only one to blame... But who kept herbs like that out in the open?! She pushed herself up standing quickly, arms crossed and looking angry. The side affect of dizziness helped her look even more agitated. Yet, the time she'd had to think had taken a bit of the fire out of her.

Kincaid's eyes widened as the pillow hit his arm, but that wasn't too bad - it was when the water bowl went towards him that he had to brace himself. The bowl shattered against his left arm as his right hand clutched protectively over the herbs that his sister had given him. Wincing Kincaid watched as blood dripped from new cuts in his arm. Bending his head, he used his teeth to dislodge the big piece of the bowl that was jutting slightly from his flesh.
"Yup. I deserve that." He muttered licking up the blood one last time before looking up at Mersi. "I take it you remember things." He added softly before tossing the herbs towards her. "From a healer - not me. So they're safe, just soothing herbs really for any pain." He turned back towards the doorway but then looked back at Mersi, silent.

The sight of the blood made her angry brows twitch down slightly, also noticing he looked about as bruised and beat as she did. Well, that gave her a little satisfaction. Remember? "Perhaps it's best that I don't remember everything." She said, growling in her scratchy voice. Her eyes flicked to the ash in the fire bowl, down to the new herbs, and snapping up to aim a death glare at the poor guy, looking so upset as he looked back at her. "You told someone?!" She yelled, coughing when her throat flaked on her. All that smoke had dried her out... and the water was now in a puddle on the floor. "What did you tell them?!"

The look in Mersi's eyes really made Kincaid wish for a split second that he had Reisa's ability of healing. Maybe he would be more confident about surviving this that way. "Maybe." Not like he remembered either, but Kincaid wouldn't admit to that. He would never try to purposely look defenseless to someone.
Despite the yelling, Mersi's coughing made Kincaid move. Disappearing without a word, he returned with a jug this time of water. "At least drink something, jeez." Kincaid tossed the jug to her, "And I didn't tell anyone anything much. She gave me those after running into me above ground." He couldn't help it that his sister had read him easily in his weakness.

Hey! She was yelling at him! Where was he going? Her hands fisted on her hips, but snapped up again in time to catch the water jug. The sloshing liquid within sounded like a bit of heaven. She watched Kincaid as he spoke, giving the bottle's innards a sniff test. Smelled like just water. Sipping slowly, she allowed her heart rate to calm. "So... she meant that stuff for you..." She looked at the herbs. For pain... She could handle pain. Why give him the satisfaction? She ignored the offer, taking a more eager drink of the water, clutching the jug tightly as though it were keeping her afloat.

"Sure she did." Kincaid just sighed at the waste of herbs. Leave it to him to find the most stubborn, short-tempered foxtaur that existed in the isles. Not feeling like watching Mersi and fearing to even try conversation yet, Kincaid paced. Finally he bent over to pick up the shards of the bowl and tossed them into a basket. Wincing his hand went again to his arm and he had to bite his lip. Blood wasn't his normal form of abuse. Usually Reisa or his mother were always there to heal such things. With a low growl he tore strips of cloth off from a nearby blanket and wrapped up his arm.

So, hopefully, no one would find out about this. At least she hadn't been able to hear Kincaid talking to his sister. The scent of his blood reached her nose, hers eyes slipping over to the male and softening ever so slightly. "Sorry..." She muttered, but then added on, "..about the bowl." Her cheeks flushed slightly and she looked away again. Her pride had been injured greatly... Apologizing felt like she would be admitting it was her fault. It wasn't. It wasn't! Her fury was quickly fading though.

"It's fine." Kincaid nearly softened at hearing her apology but then remembered their situation. His tail swept through the air as he motioned to the open door. "Truly I'm surprised you're still standing here."
His gaze turned as cold as possible as he looked at Mersi. "Well. Aren't you going to leave now? Or do you want people to see and to question why you stayed the night with me?" Kincaid shrugged doing his best to show no interest about any of her choices.
"Either way, you should leave quickly. The sun's already coming up." He moved to pick up pieces of burned plants, "I have to clean up this place so you might as well get going."

Mersi flinched at the sudden change in Kincaid's voice and eyes. The chill... it didn't seem to fit him at all. Quickly, she straightened her back and headed silently for the door. He was right. No one knew, so why allow the chance to draw attention to something that was... nothing. She reached the top of the steps, eyes squinting even at the dim light from the semi-hidden sun. Good thing she lived alone. She took a step before realizing she still held the jug. Spinning, she hurled it down the steps, hearing a satisfying shatter as she stomped down the path.

He slumped down against the ground when she left and only moved when the shatter startled him. Kincaid sighed and hung his head as he just laid there thoughtfully. Later he would get up and fix the damage in the room and head home to think some more. Not like he saw Mersi coming to talk to him ever again. Maybe they wouldn't even run into each other ever again. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Early afternoon sunlight warmed the foxtaur's back as he worked in the fields. Sweat glinted off of Kincaid's forehead as he cut another row of herbs. "Great, Kincaid." He muttered to himself as another basket got full. "Now all I need to do is clear out the rest of the spring crops."
His shoulders sagged. Goodness. But...looking up Kincaid grinned. It was afternoon, finally time to take a break. Tossing his head back he finished off the jug of water that had been full only an hour ago.
"Great." With a sigh, Kincaid held onto the jug and headed down the path towards a nearby stream where he could cool off and fill up his jug again to get ready for even more work. But that was good, because work got his mind off of her.

Following a path that, for some reason, she hadn't been able to forget, Mersi was tying her hair back to keep it off her neck. The heat wouldn't have normally bothered her, but her condition made it seem doubly hot. Damn that male. Because of him, instead of tending to her own small garden and the leaking ice box in her cellar, she was tromping down a sun baked path in search of the last place she had seen him. She didn't have to tell him though... Would he even want anything to do with them? She could take care of them herself! Sighing, she glanced back and down, looking at a very swollen belly, ripe with child. Even after all this time, she still couldn't find a way to place all the blame on Kincaid. She huffed softly. It should be his fault!

It was weird that how the foxtaur actually managed to pay enough attention for once to hear the approach of another taur. Though he was still floating through the water, Kincaid flipped over with a splash. "Hey! Is anyone there?" He called out with curiosity.
Plus it could be Reisa. Leave it to her to worry over him, "Hey, Reisa! Is it you?" He called out while swimming towards the shore. Really he wished he could see pass the leaves and bushes.

When the voice called out her first instinct was to freeze. That was... him. Was she already there? She backed up a few steps. Reisa? Perhaps his lover? She narrowed her eyes. She was so stupid to think he would want something to do with children he didn't want. He'd be happier not knowing. ...It was the proper thing to do though. It sounded like he was in water, all those splashes. At least she'd have a head start if he tried anything. She balled her hands, lifted her chin and took a deep breath. Just get it over with, then go home and raise the babies. She stepped through the brush about halfway, keeping her belly hidden by the greenery. "Kincaid..." She said, keeping her face as cool as possible when her eyes lit on the golden headed male. He looked exactly like she remembered. Damn it.
