There finally! A brown had come out onto the sands, Yulu's eyes sweeping over to it but her steps moving back slightly as she watched it come into contact with the little Bronze from before. She wouldn't have to worry about keeping her attention in two places now, what with both dragonets together and easier to watch, and she almost found herself smiling over the interaction they shared.
Was the Brown...telling the Bronze what to do? was that its way of saying 'hurry it up!' ? If her memory served she knew the red egg had felt Impatient when she touched it, so it didn't seem that surprising that the beast wanted the first out to hurry up and get along. Several of their siblings had already Impressed after all, so why was it dawdling? That may not have been at all what the Brown was thinking, but that's how Yulu took it.
He looked radiant too, and a little large, but she didn't dare herself to think any further.

Lelia watched as from the spicy red egg, a brown emerged. Not particularly remarkable in terms of size, he nonetheless possessed a maturity, a pride to him, that Lelia admired. So young and yet so sure, so confident. Good for him. She followed him with her eyes, curious as to why he assaulted his bronze brother so. Was he telling him to be nice? Telling him to behave? Lelia liked to think so. It was nice to see a rational, calm dragon. Lelia didn't see the point of the bronze's anger, maybe the brown would instill some sense in him. Wouldn't that be nice?

Cass let out a long, disappointed sigh as yet another dragonet headed towards the boys. Well...fighting dragons weren't supposed to be for girls anyways...granted, that certainly didn't stop Cass hoping to impress one. She didn't care what color her dragon was so long as it was her lifemate, and hers alone. The little blond bolstered her spirits and returned her gaze to the unhatched eggs still sitting on the sands. No use crying over spilt milk, as her mother had always said. All she could do was hope that her dragon was still there somewhere in the clutch, just waiting its turn to hatch. Ah! look! A brown! She watched curiously as it walked across the sands. It seemed very mature, she couldn't help but think. She wasn't sure she liked the way the golden egg had gotten hit though! she hoped the little queen inside it was alright.

Well, a brown then, okay, she'd got that one and the orange strip the wrong way around... A brown was not for her, she wasn't the kind of girl a brown would want, the rare browns that did choose girls. Good thing too really, she'd have to leave here if a brown chose her... But Impressing was more important than being here, so if that brown wanted to fly in the face of everything everyone knew about dragons' preferences that would be alright.
She was fairly sure it wouldn't want her, but all the same Layla kept her mind open to the idea that it might. If it wanted her, she was here. If any of them wanted her, she was here. She was waiting. She'd wait for as long as she had to. When her dragon hatched, she would be here... or in the stands if it wasn't in a clutch with a gold. Until she was too old she would keep hoping... but please let her dragon be here today. Please. She might yet be chosen. She could hope. She had had to hope.

When Kaatan saw Lelia search the stands for a brief moment, he made his small smile just a little bigger, hoping to reassure her. The dragonets were finding Theirs, but she was still there in the crowd. But there's still the queen!
When he saw the proud brown emerge, he was glad to see it accompany the other colors. He looks so proud... But when he moved to the bronze ever-so-carefully, his heart sunk slightly as he headbutted the bronze. Oh, I hope that was meant to be helpful, and not violent! The last thing we need is a fight... I don't think it would happen though - dragons don't fight other dragons...

Zhierd held his breath as as he watched the Spicy Red Egg begin to hatch. Would it be another blue? Or maybe this would be a bronze. The boy didn't have to wait long to find out. The egg hatched quickly and out came a brown. Oh! The dragonet was coming this way! The boy held his breath for a few moments and then the dragonet walked right past him. Ah well. Wait a minute, did he just bump into that bronze on purpose? It definitely looked like he had. At least he hadn't impressed yet, there was still hope.

Look Shamth! A Brown has finally made it out, it was only a matter of time before that happened. It's got some spunk to it too, and size as well. It'll be a fine beast for whomever it chooses, so I hope it chooses well.
L'pin hadn't really be saying anything over the others to hatch thus far, but Shamth knew from the lack of comment the man probably wasn't that Impressed with the picking thus far. Most of them were young kids that they'd seen around while working Candidate chores with them, and none of them had struck either man nor dragon as overly special. Still, L'pin had never thought himself amazing either yet he still had a dragon. It was probably in his best interests to just stay quiet and watch the rest, his eyes falling on Yulu and her apparent merriment over all of this.
Look, Yulu's laughing.
Still not interested Mine. Not interested at all.

The bronze let out a startled squeal when he was bumped, clearly not having expected anything from the rest of his clutchmates. When he realized it was a brown of all colours he whirled to face his brother, growling low in his throat. How DARE he?! Size didn't seem to faze him – the brown was bigger than his metallic clutchmate – and his growls only intensified when the brown held his ground.
A hush fell over the crowd as the two dragons stared at each other, almost completely motionless. The memory of the Telgar greens was still fresh in many memories. What would these two dragons do? Would they fight? Would one go between? Then, the bronze slowly extended his wings and arches his back up. The silence was broken by a low growl. The bronze took one step towards the brown, tail lashing from side to side. The message is clear: back off.
For a moment it almost looked as though the brown wasn't going to back down. However with a final snap of his jaws the brown turned and headed back towards the clutch. The Weyr seemed to breathe a silent sigh of relief. It looked like the pair wouldn't fight, at least not yet.
Understandably, the bronze seemed quite pleased with himself. He turned his back on the brown and kicked stand in his direction, almost mocking him. Nobody was prepared for what the bronze did next, however. Stride still determined he marched up the stairs and into the Stands, hissing at all who came near him and snapping at those who didn’t get out of his way fast enough.
Where was this little bronze going?

Tofir's guesses had been pretty far off so far. He shrugged philosophically and went back to watching the goings-on on the sands. His attention was divided between the hidden dragon in the grey egg and the pair of dragons on the sands, the bronze and the brown. He that the bronze wouldn't turn around and snap at the brown, or do worse.
In preparation for this healing, he'd asked the other healers about things that could go wrong at hatchings and received a list longer than his arm. He was trying not to worry about them, but he simply wasn't prepared for dragons fighting with each other. He knew only the barest rudiments of dragonhealing. Yulu knew more. Fortunately, there were dragonhealers present. That would be helpful if something like that did happen. He hoped it wouldn't.
In the back of his mind, he felt reassurances from Shiv that he had found Song, and he was with her now and he felt much better because she was safe and she said the person she was with was safe. He didn't know how he felt about the person, but he whistled at Song about the excitement. What had he missed? He had been afraid when the humming started and so he'd hidden.
Tofir's attention was further divided when the bronze moved into the stands. Shells. That could be bad. Now he was beginning to understand his fellow healers' sour expressions.

Cass watched the showdown with bated breath, dearly hoping that there wouldn't be a repeat of the last hatching. Oh please oh please oh please...she breathed a sigh of relief along with everyone else as the brown backed down and seemed content to head back towards its unhatched clutch mates and wait its turn. Thank goodness. She would hate to have this lovely day marred by bloodshed. Moment of crisis over, the petite girl turned her gaze back to the unhatched eggs. After all, a bronze like that would definitely have nothing to do with a girl like her!

The hair on the back of Kaatan's neck stood on end at the confrontation between the dragons. They won't fight... They absolutely won't! When the scene was averted and the sound came back the crowd, his own quiet gasp joined it as the bronze headed into the stands. That never happened. Never. Shards! Someone's going to get hurt!

Zhierd had watched with his breath held after the brown had bumped into the bronze. Then it had almost looked like there was going to be a fight. He had let out his breath after the brown had backed down. Good. There wasn't any need for the two to fight. He wanted every dragon to survive. Zhierd stared holding his breath again as the bronze kicked the sand toward the brown. He really hoped that the larger dragonet wasn't about to start a fight over that. One less dragonet was one less chance for anyone to impress and one less dragon for the Weyr.
Oh no! Was that bronze headed up here?. Yep he sure was. The boy tried to quickly move out of the way as fast as possible. Rather hoping he could make it in time. Someone was sure to get hurt and he didn't want it to be him.

Wait, what was going on now? There had been a confrontation, the Brown had backed down, and now the Bronze was taking strides and going into the Stands?! Yulu almost started to move after it in an effort to try and limit damage control, though once it got away from here there was nothing she cold do but hope the people up there could move out of the way in time. She did take a few steps however, though she dared not let herself get carried away and forget about the brown on the sands. She would let the people in the stands fend for themselves, her attention on him.
Just as you hurried your brother along, you should hurry as well. There isn't a reason to rush, but there isn't a reason to linger either.
It was the first time she'd thought towards one of them, but it was a weak remark at best.

She had seen it all happen in her mind's eye. A blood bath, not red but green. Green ichor staining the sands, two dragons dying, the rest going mad with grief and tearing down all who stood on the sands. Trembling as she watched the two dragons face off, Layla closed her eyes. Don't let it happen. Please...
When she opened them again, the bronze was heading up into the stands. Maybe that was why he had taken so long; His had not been on the sands. The hostility between the brown and the bronze still worried her, but now at least they were parting. Maybe things wouldn't spark off between them today. The rest of the hatching might go okay. Maybe nobody would get hurt. Maybe her dragon was still out there inside its shell.
Letting out a breath she hadn't been aware of holding, Layla shifted her feet on the burning sands; her soles felt on fire!... But she couldn't focus on that. Think of the eggs, only of the eggs.

Skanath looked up from his food with consern at the sound of his siblings growlings. He held his breath waiting to see what the two would do. Once the confrontation was over however he quickly returned to his food.
