A year and 8 months. When you're closing in on the end of your enlistment, you never round up.

You shouldn't make your entire life's decision based off of what someone else wants you to do. Now if you want to do something in the military, by all means go. If you do not, however, you shouldn't. If you confused about what you could do and don't know what's possible, I/somebody could enlighten you.

No one can force you to join the military. It's illegal, since it's a binding contract. And trust me, you don't want to join just to make your parents happy. Definately the wrong reason. If you're gonna join, do it because you want to, or else you'll be miserable. This is one truth that we all in the military know to be true. Oh, and don't join for the money either. The pay isn't that great till you're atleast E-5. If you have any questions I'd be more than happy to answer them for you.

1. i know the pay is low. 2. it has crossed my mind to join, i'm just confused for alot of reasons. my biggest being i don't know that i have what it takes to kill another human being. i've never been in a killed or be killed situation, and really...while as i act amazing under pressure...i don't know. 3. they wouldn't force me to do it, never, they just know i can't afford college, and want to see me succeed and do what they couldn't.

The probability of killing someone is high when you’re in an armed force that's sole purpose is the defense of others by the exploitation of force, this force achieved by weapons who's sole purpose is to kill. Anyways, as far as everything goes, you'll need to be extremely physically fit. While the Army in the past has been very lenient, the projected budget is very low, and the rising trend of obesity causes many military recruitment groups to be very careful in who they accept.
As for as BMI and Body Fat percentage goes, you can get waivers for that; so long as your score well on your physical part. I.E. your going to need to be able to do 30-50 push-ups, 50-100 crunches/sit-ups, pull-ups, dips, and be able to run two miles in roughly 12 minutes.
It's pretty tough, and pretty demanding. They'll help you out will college like before; but now it's going to be even tougher because they be accepting just anybody. With the budget cuts... drop outs will increase and actually be forced. Instead of just excepting everybody, they'll only except the best, and limited amount of the best.
Because of this, if your not completely 100% devoted, your going to have a tough time getting through.

yeah. while as i'm not at 100% physically fit, i'm not obese either. i'm a hard worker, and once i've got something in my head that i want, i don't quit till it kills me. and yeah...i've gotten that whole speech before about what our military is there for. i could've figured it out on my own....but....my dad is convinced i'm not fit for it, so i get that alot. i'm someone who does good under pressure...i'm not afraid to learn, and i'm not afraid to keep trying until i get it right, which usually i don't have to do...i usually get it the first time, if not, definantly the second time. i'm sharp as as an arrow in a pile of glass....i have a take no s**t attitude. if i decided this is what i want, i'd be good at it...

O_o
You got to be nice, polite, efficient, and capable of responding to orders. The best leaders can follow. Not to take offense by a word someone will tell you. A D.I. will call you all kinds of names; you got to be like teflon, and let it slide, basically not give a s**t.
Also, don't you like how I mysterousley added that new subforum and stuffz, all quite like ninja

haha, i hadn't actually seen. lol.
and i can have that attitude. it's hard for me though, i've learned to be independent, think for myself, not take anyone's s**t.
and honestly, nothing a D.I. could tell me could be worse than what i've thought of myself at one point or another, so he/she would be no trouble. it'd be like living with my mother again. haha.
and i can take orders, i follow well, i can stay positive when there isn't the slightest bit of hope for anything in a situation.

Haha. Imo not taking anyone's s**t is not caring about it. People who are inescure care about what other's say about them. True strength is not letting stuff like that affect you; at all.
Not just repressing it, but not caring in general. Your an easy push-over if 'words' are enough to upset you.
That's my philosphy. But people are weak, what can I say?
