"Land is different, after all not everyone can live everywhere," Cindy replied, "Why own land no one lives there yet? Or it hasn't been discovered? Here for example there is only the Ranch and the houses you saw over there, no one else lives here. Why own the whole Borderlands when no one else lives here but us?"
She knew it was perhaps a more complicate way of viewing things.
"And besides, if someone is mean enough to just take it away from another if they didn't own it but were living there, what is to prevent that same person from taking it away from them if they owned it? From the sounds of it, to a person like that it wouldn't matter."

That kind of argument just silenced Vergil into thoughtfulness. It really was something to think about - though he didn't know anyone who would do something like try to take something away from its rightful owner.
He pursed his lips, his brow furrowed, and he just sat in Cindy's arms, thinking.

The rest of the walk to the Ranch was a quiet one, and when she made it there she headed straight for the Ranch House. Unlike the rest of her family she had been here too long to knock on doors so she just let herself in.
"Elrohir? Haradhel?"

"In the playroom," came the reply.
Vergil was looking around again, his eyes wide. He had been greatly impressed by the first sight of the ranch, and of the house, and now that they were inside he was even more impressed. It was very fancy in there - at least, to him. It looked very comfortable indeed.
"What's this place?" he asked, looking up at Cindy.

"The whole area you saw outside was the Ranch," Cindy explained, "And this building is the Ranch house...."
She pattered over to the play room to peek in to see who was inside. She hadn't quite been paying attention to the sound of the voice, so she couldn't quite tell who it was.

"Ranch house ... because it's the house on the ranch," Vergil murmured to himself. "Got it."
It was Haradhel in the playroom, sitting at one of the desks and working on some paperwork. She turned when she heard Cindy enter the room, and she tilted her head curiously. "Who's this?" she asked, her eyes sparkling brightly. "New recruit?"
Obviously she was teasing. She rose to her feet and moved to take a closer look at the boy cradled in Cindy's arms.
Vergil, for his part, just stared up at her in awe. She was taller than any of the others he had seen so far ...

"This is Vergil... my son," Cindy said this a bit sheepishly.
While it was normal for the family to adopt at a moment's notice, after all these years of living in the Borderlands this wasn't what she had expected for herself.
Oh dear... she would have to tell her mother sometime if Lore didn't first.
"Lore found him, and there is no place for him back in the Seconds world so he's come to live with me."

Haradhel whistled appreciatively. "Wow ... that was sudden. You didn't have him yesterday!" She laughed. "Hello, Vergil. Welcome to Haven!"
Vergil blinked up at Haradhel. "Who are you?" he asked her bluntly, though he meant no harm by it.
Haradhel grinned at him. "My name is Haradhel, and my husband, Elrohir, and I run this ranch." She smiled at Cindy.

Cindy giggled at that, she knew Vergil probably needed a bit of help adjusting to people.
"I'm use to sudden adoptions, so it's sort of normal back home, how else do you think my family expanded so much?"
Though now it was much calmer... which was nice.

Haradhel laughed at Cindy. "I seem to recall stories about vases," she winked, "so I'm not sure all the adoptions were as sudden or unexpected as this."
She smiled at Vergil. "But it doesn't necessarily follow that it is also unwelcome," she added so that she wouldn't insult him. "You are very welcome here."
Vergil kept staring up at Haradhel. She was very impressive ... very tall, and very talkative. And very nice.

Cindy smiled at that happily, "I know.... I'm hoping to show Vergil around a bit, but I thought to drop by and see if you still have the old eating utensils from when my siblings were Surprises...."
Since they came here so often and would stay here for months at a time.

Haradhel tapped her chin thoughtfully. "I'm not sure," she admitted. "They were pretty well used, and it's been a very long time since any of them have been that small ... I can take a look for you, though. And if I can't find them, I'll have Arahad make some for you, I know he likes that."
It had been decades since they had needed them, it was very possible that they were no longer around. If they were anywhere, she suspected that they might be in the toybox with the dolls and such.
"Why don't you go on with your tour then," she suggested, "and if I find anything I'll bring it to Shael and Adonai's place? And if not I'll send a message. How does that sound?"

"That would be perfect!"
Cindy smiled at that, she knew it had been far too long here since children of that size came to stay, so she hoped for something at least.
"Now we can go see the horses right?" she asked Vergil.

Haradhel smiled at Cindy. "Have fun," she told her cheerfully, "but be careful."
Vergil waved at Haradhel. "I'll be good," he promised her. He looked up at Cindy. "I'd like to see the horses," he agreed. "They sound kind of funny, but interesting."

Cindy giggled she knew she hadn't done a good job of describing them if her son thought they sounded funny.
"I'll see you later, we're just staying by the fence."
At least she hoped someone was training one of them so she could stay by the fence, she didn't want to take Vergil up close not when it was uncertain in how they would act. Exiting the Ranch house she made her way over to the training area hoping that there would be one there.
