Coline felt a sudden chill rush up her spine as she realized the Captain had already made his way behind her, ready to strike. Turning herself around she found herself facing his sword and instinctively shot her trident forward in an attempt to deflect it.

Coline's feeble, unprepared attempt at deflecting the coming blow was - well, feeble and unprepared. Instead of striking her body, however, his blade met the top of the staff part of the trident, just below the forks. The sword was then deftly twisted, so that the blade ended up on Coline's side, as opposed to his. Then, by sliding and pulling at the same time, the trident was yanked from Coline's grip. It flew through the air, landing several metres away in the sand.

This all happened very quickly, and Jessie still had time to go through with his habit of taking his opponent down a peg. Stretching himself up to his full height in a nimble, fluid motion, he brought his face within inches of Coline's and savoured the smell of her sweat and sudden fear. Time always seemed to slow down whenever he bowled into combat, and the half a second he spent hovering there felt like an eternity. It was... sensational.

Slowly - slowly to him, anyway - he brought up his arm, having already sheathed his sword at some indecipherable point between disarming her and that moment, and pushed gently on her forehead. The unbalanced trainee fell to the soft ground like a feather felled by the wind.

Feeling herself prop onto the sand, her first instinct was to feel around for her trident. "Where...?" She soon realized it was nowhere close. Far from close. About a few meters away. Resting her hands upon the sand to support her weight, Coline hung her head low as she felt the heat rise to her cheeks in embarrassment.

Disarmed in one go... it was humiliating. But then again, this was the Captain she was dealing with here. Maybe she didn't do so bad? She would hear from him soon enough.

Jessie actually had to fight back a smile. He was never one to compliment his own cleverness, but as the girl flushed with embarassment at how easily she'd been undone he couldn't help but feel pleased at his own little ploy. However, it wasn't over until it became apparent whether or not she'd learned anything from it.

He tried not to think about the fact that if he'd pulled a stunt like that at home he may have been executed for laying a hand forcefully upon a woman.

Then, as Coline hung her head in shame, a sudden wave of guilt swept over him. He bent to her level, extending his hand in order to help her up. He had an unguarded look in his eye that made him appear about as kind as he had in a long time.

"Did you get all of that?"

"It all went by so fast..." she muttered, gripping a handful of sand from underneath her palms. Coline went silent for a long while, barely moving from her spot, her hair shielding her expression. "...Haha. You never cease to amaze me, Captain." she said suddenly, shaking her head solemnly. "Disarming, after parrying, is probably the most vital skill you'll ever learn."

Raising her head up finally to look at him Coline smiled genuinely, her cheeks not quite recovering from the tinge of red. She couldn't tell which was more embarrassing; losing so inelegantly, or completely forgetting what brought about the loss in the first place. But she knew better now. Taking the offered hand Coline pulled herself up, and losing all sense of formality, she muttered, "Thanks."

The Captain sighed. Apparently he wasn't as clever as he thought. Or perhaps the girl simply learned better through explanation than demonstration. But what about a combination of both?

Having pulled her up from the ground, he kept hold of her hand. "Then we can try again."

He moved her arm into a diagonal position - the same as her trident had been when she attempted to block his attack. He then released her hand and moved his own arm into the opposite diagonal position, which his sword had been in. After holding the pose for several seconds, he moved his arm over hers to the side of her arm not facing him. Then, he pulled hard to one side.

Coline, obviously, was jerked in the direction he'd pulled. Before she could perform an astounding faceplant, however, Jessie reached out with his free right arm and caught her by the shoulder.

"Do you get it now? You need to form a lock with your own weapon around the leverage point of your opponent's weapon, and use that to pull the weapon away from them. Sometimes you can get lucky and disarm an opponent through sheer force of strike, but most times you need to rely on a technique such as this."

He let her regain her balance before continuing - watching her always with a discerning intensity, and speaking in his usual low voice. "The use of a leverage point is why many weapon-to-weapon disarms end up crippling or injuring the disarmed party. Most weapons, such as swords and daggers, are only leverageable from close to the hilt - close to the hand. You're very lucky that yours happens to be so far up. Holding it high also makes it more difficult to disarm. Didn't you see how far I had to reach to do it? In normal combat, it would have been nearly impossible."

Holding her head as she struggled with her balance, she listened on as the Captain went about his explanation. Coline had always gotten the impression that disarming a weapon was only a matter of how hard you can knock the enemy's weapon away. It was clear to her now that there was no way she could have won that battle; she was looking at the blade the whole time, not the hilt. She had already lost from the very beginning.

"I under... stand." she said, taking a step back to keep herself from completely falling out of balance. She was feeling... strange. Something was telling her this wasn't because of the Captain's sudden decision to use her as a prop to prove his point. Her vision was slowly going out of focus, her knees weakened, and eventually everything went black. The strain of training from the night before had finally taken its toll.

((Agh, sorry Lorika, I have to get going. It's a really cliche way to bail out, but since I mentioned earlier on that she had been training hard the night before I guess it's sorta fits. xD Have your way with her, she's all yours. ;3 I'll scan back when I get home from class later to see from where I should pick up from next time. 'Twas a really fun RP! <3

EDIT: Oooor you could just totally ignore this post because it sucks and it's a bit out-of-character and I hate it RAWDASDAWD and we can continue tomorrow. That works too. You decide. xD))

Jessie's single eye widened with shock. "C-coline?!" Having not taken his hand from her shoulder, he was able to reach forward and get his other hand into place beneath her armpit, hoisting her up. "Coline! Dear god..."

He looked around at the other training recruits, who had yet to notice what had happened. Damn them! Useless lollygaggers! He'd get no help from them.

"None of you go anywhere! I want to see every face here when I get back!" He shouted this in the general direction of the other initiates, while scooping her up into his arms. "...And don't go killing anything or anyone while I'm gone!"

With that, he began the hour-long march back to the Temple at a sprint.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Drax slowly rose from his bunk. It had been a long day previous, his initiation into the benevolent order's army. He still held his swords, and with them, a hope to return to his home, back in faerun... And kill his b*****d brother. the bhaalspawn rose from his tent, belting on the dual swords, and donning the leather pants he had been given in his initiation. He laced up his tall combat boots and leather bracers. Slowly standing, he took in the sea breeze. Suddenly he was hailed from a short distance in front of him, a man wearing the robes of the overseer's priesthood. The man decided to accost him for his absence at the morning prayers. Drax simply scoffed at the man.
"Look, friend, this... clam deity of yours.. is just that. My god is mine, and yours is yours," the tall bronzed man said, boring into the diminutive priest's eyes. "Now, if you would be so kind as to direct me to the training grounds..?" he asked, letting his words sink into the little man. Glaring at Drax, the priest said nothing, and only pointed down the beach.

He started off down the sandy beach, with his swords at his hips, pockets filled with various (and apparently important- at least to him) objects, and no shirt to speak of. his stubble from the last week had grown enough to be considered a decent beard now, and he was wondering just how his commanding officer was going to make him 'conform'.
In fact, he was looking forward to his first day with the new troop.

((Ok, so I know this is a little off, but it is my first post, and I will get a bit more into it after a couple more. Also he is trying to learn some more finenessful moves whilst dual wielding. ))

Bapp watched as the instructor ran away with his classmate in his arms.

"How am I supposed to get any training like this? Fighting a dummy's getting boring." As he said so, the the dummy tilted and began to fall on to his head.

Bapp sighed, raising his scythe and propping the dummy up before it even touched his hat.

"Bored... What kinda training is this..." He mumbled as he drifted off to sleep in a sitting position.

Sta wakes up on the 4th day and goes to train some more.
She manages to reach the top of the tree by jumping from branch to branch.
But, she can only jump on stationary objects. So she looks for moving targets to jump on.

Her sword at her side, as always, she jumps down from the tree. She runs down the beach looking for something to practice with.

[OOC: I've gone back to lurking mostly... It's cause I hate Sta falling on her butt all the time. lol At least day 4 means she's halfway done with training for this accursed skill.

Weird glitch... I feel bad for posting now...]

((time for Real Jessie to come in, you have him sort of down you just forgot his accent heart ))

::Swaggering out onto the fields of the training grounds Jessie Hawk while wearing his order robes searched around. He had wondered if anyone else had come to the grounds to see if anyone new had arrived. The dark elf Captain had a few of his weapons on him, and if he didn't have them on him, he was sure he could find something useful around the grounds. After all the place was well stocked. He was a fighter, all though he new how to inspire people that came sort of a natural ability to him, while most of his time was spent improving his fighting style.

Walking to a nice safe location he took in a deep breath and begun to move his arms in wide arcs he was practicing hand to hand Kata now.::

Harata swung her sword at the wooden dummy, something normal people might call a tree. She knew it was bad for her blade, for wood would dull, but she needed some way to improve her sword skill. Testing out a rather exuberant move, she managed to simoltaniously log the sword in the tree, and fall.
Groaning, she stood, and managed to wrench the sword out of the tree.
"Keep trying. You're just lucky that was not a real enemy."
