Lee beamed up at Rory, imagining the two getting along even better as time went on. "He seemed like your kind of dog, at least. But, ya know, puppies are hard work. They're like babies when they're young. Well, he is a baby still, but you know what I mean. But Lauss took good care of Rosco, so if you can't really keep up with him, he'll help out." She pet the puppy again, though had some difficulty due to how restless the little animal had become. "If you want, he can stay in the house with us while he's still young. Then he can live with Rosco outside. I figured, now that I have a job and everything, Rosco could use a playmate." For once, she'd thought ahead and had planned something out somewhat well. And she was proud of herself.

"Nae, best he stay outside an' get used t' livin' there or he'll be expectin' t' come in when he's older, too," Rory said, keeping a gently firm grip on the puppy. "Needs a collar an' leash. Did you get them when you bought him? An' some food?"

Lee let her shoulders slump forward at the realization that perhaps she hadn't thought things through. Well, at least she'd bought the collar. "Yeah, the collar's... in the front yard, on top of his pet carrier. We still have puppy food and a leash here from when I got Rosco." At least she wasn't totally useless.

"Alreet. Let's gae get th' carrier an' collar. I guess while w're here, he can stay in me room, but when w' get home, I'll fix up a fence fae th' yard fae him an' Rosco," Rory said, ruffling Lee's hair before putting an arm around her. "Thanks fae th' birthday gift, e'en if it's really early. I cannae believe you ain't asked me mum or sisters when me birthday is yet." For that matter, it reminded him to ask Mr. Katan about Lee's birthday.

"I guess... I didn't think to ask them..." She blushed, embarrassed at how off she'd been. "But I'll still try to get you something for your actually birthday." She smiled up at him, trying to think of what else he might like. Hopefully something slightly cheaper than a four-hundred dollar purebred, but hopefully just as enjoyable. "So... you think he's cute, right? Even with his fur all blotchy as stuff? I thought it made him look dorky and cute, I guess, but..." That didn't mean Rory did. She held her breath a little at how bad Rory smelled at the moment, though had to admit that the pet shop had smelled worse, so she was used to foul smells today.

"Nae, I like it. He's sorta patchwork. It's cute," Rory said then caught her look and stepped back from her. "Sorry. faegot how I smell after bein' wi' horses. Why donnae you take Ki Du an' get his carrier an' all tha' from th' front an' I'll gae wash up."

Lee giggled, apparently not minding his smell too much. Taking the puppy from Rory's hands, she hoped he'd stay still long enough for her to get him inside. "Alright. Take your time. I might meet you in there." She said the words rather casually, though shot him a playful grin before continuing to head for the front, energetic puppy in hand.

Rory playfully slapped her on the a** as she left, laughing a bit, then headed inside needing a hot shower and some time to think about what he and Mrs. Katan had discussed. He was sure that his father wouldn't mind letting her have a horse from their stock and might even make a deal to trade a horse worthy of her eventing in exchange for letting Kettle sire a colt with Snowflake. He'd have to talk more with the woman to see if she'd be willing to go along with it, too. He wandered through the house, lost a bit in thought, but amazingly finding his way through the large home.

Lydia smiled a bit as she saw Rory wandering through the halls, catching up to the boy and ditching her dusting for now. "Hello," she said softly from behind him, a small, gentle smile on her lips. She liked to think they'd at least become semi-friends, enough to where he wouldn't mind chatting with her.

Rory jerked a bit, startled from his thoughts by the greeting and looked back at the maid. "Hey, Lydia. How's it gaen?" He smiled, friendly enough, but kept his distance, not out of mistrust, though. He was aware after Lee's reaction that he wasn't exactly smelling of roses at the moment, the faint smell of horses and sweat and a hint of leather clinging to him.

He remembered her name... that was a good sign. "It's going well enough." She noticed he was keeping his distance, and she tilted her head a bit, smiling at him nervously. "Are you alright?" Surely it wasn't her he was keeping away from, right?

"Aye, I'm fine. Just not exactly wantin' t' offend your delicate senses after ridin' Mrs. Katan's horse this morn or playin' wi' th' puppy Lee got me," the boy explained, giving a slightly shy lopsided grin. "I wis on me way t' wash up."

The girl gave the boy an awkward nod-smile of understanding, biting her lip as she wondered what to talk about. "Why'd Miss Lee buy you a puppy? Just... to have a puppy?"

"She got it fae me birthday, but she's way early fae it. It's not till th' 31st," Rory explained, shrugging. "I think you outsiders hae a holiday then, yeah? W' usually celebrate Samhain around tha' time."

Lydia blinked, her mouth forming an "o" shape. "So-ween? I've never heard of that, but... We celebrate Halloween. I think the lady of the house was planning on throwing a small party on that day. I suppose you'll be having a party the same day, too?" She smiled softly to the boy, feeling somewhat privileged for knowing what day his birthday was -- and apparently near the same time Lee had learned of it, too.
