hmm... many hints I can think of give away everything...
His mother is deceased.
His good friend (and possible crush) since childhood has a dog (Den) with a prosthetic front left leg.
He constantly travels with his brother.
I hope these are both vague enough to not be seen through, yet easy enough to help guess.
