"The cons outweigh the pros for me. Should something happen to the person I would chose to care about, wouldn't that be a waste of my life? Not to mention having the rest of my life to live just with memories. That is a long time just to remember."

"Caring about someone is worth the risk," she argued with a small frown. "When you care about someone, you have the joy of thinking of others rather than yourself. And yes, something could happen to them, but those memories can be a great comfort. And, in time, you can care again."

He looked distant, lost in memory, "She had found religion soon after we decided to live with one another, and worried so for her immortal soul and what paradise awaited her that I gave into her pleading and allowed her to see it through one of my mirrors. She went mad from the viewing. I have distanced myself from all I meet ever since. I had even just almost blocked it from memory." He smiled sadly, "I do wish I would have..."

As he spoke, she had propped herself up on her arms. By the end of her tail, Zulimar was certain that her heart would break on his behalf. Without considering the consequences, she leaned over to hug him gently. "I am sorry you experienced that."
