Zia made a little face. "Babies eat from . . . you?" It looked up at Ellandra. "Humans are weird."
Faolan gently settled Sam into Rhian's arms, keeping his hands in place to help her steady the baby. "There, see? It's not so hard, eh? I'm right here with you. I wonnae let you drop him. It's okay." The infant yawned again and waved a tiny fist around, then opened his eyes, looking up at Rhian without really seeing her, his eyes not quite blue, but more of a very pale gold. Faolan smiled a little. "I think he knows his big sister's holdin' him.

Ellandra couldn't help it - she giggled. "Oh, Ziazan, it's just ho we work. It's part of why babies are so dependant on their parents. . . and speaking of which, I think someone's finally finished eating." And indeed the infant girl was, ready for a bit more care and then maybe some sleep. There wasn't a very long priority list in babies' minds.
Rhian blinked, then gasped a little. "Um - I hope I don't hurt him," she said quietly, one last, weak protest as the infant was pushed into her arms and opened his sightless little eyes - eyes that were already a faint gold. ". . . . Big sister?" She paused, and blinked, then added, in an almost-shy and very much un-Rhian-like manner, "He's . . . pretty - is it okay to say that?"

"Yeah, it's okay," Faolan answered gently, watching her with his son. "They're both pretty." He looked over at Elle, hearing her mention Bel being finished. "Bet your Mama wouldn't mind if you held your little sister while Sam here got his groceries." He gently lifted the infant from Rhian so he could switch them out with Ellandra.
Zia was still making faces. "But where does the food come from?"

Rhian blinked. "Groceries? But he's too little for a grocery store!" The Essentic said, blue eyes blinking widely, completely missing the point at she touched the tiny fist of the baby she held.
Ellandra held back more laughter at Ziazan's questions - such a cute little one, it was - and said, "Why not touch me and find out that way, hmm?"

"I meant he could get milk," Faolan chuckled gently, taking switching the infants out with Elle. He brought Bel over to Rhian and placed the infant in her big sister's arms.
"Very well," Zia said and laid a hand on Ellandra's. It's rainbow eyes widened. "That's . . . ew!" It jerked its hand back and looked at her. "Humans are weird!"

This time Ellandra laughed out loud, both at Ziazan's expression and its disgusted declaration. "That's just how we are, little one," she said, before turning her attention to her son, stroking his soft orange hair and smiling so softly, so gently. "Hello, baby. . . I knew you'd look just like your father. . ."
Rhian took the new baby, who blinked up at her and squinched her lips, as if she was still trying to suckle a little. "She looks like Mama," the flutterby said, though it was a little hesitantly, as newborns didn't precisely look like anything but tiny old people or little red monkeys, but both twins were cute in a. . . . squishy sort of way.

Zia just scoffed and scooted closer to Ellandra, reaching out to take Sam's tiny fist. "More like Faolan than you know." It smiled at the infant.
Faolan knelt down so he was more eye-level with Rhian and the infant. Bel's gonna be just like her mama, I bet."
"Aye, but she'll have your spunk likely," Keagan said, leaned against the wall to watch them.

"Oh?" Ellandra asked softly, peering at Ziazan questioningly. "What do you mean, Ziazan?"
Rhian giggled, her bright blue eyes sparking as she looked at Faolan. "Mama has spunk too . . . . but I think this baby will have a double-dose!"

"Got Faolan's gift," Zia said, peering down at the baby, or what it could see of Sam with the blanket over him. "He'll know the cards like Fao does. Maybe even be better at it because of your blood, too."
Faolan just chuckled. "Then I'll have three spunky girls in my family." He reached up to ruffle Rhian's hair again.

Ellandra blinked and stroked the baby's head a little. "Really...? Then. . . things will be ll right for him, I think. . . in the long run..."
Rhian blinked and looked up at Faolan with wide eyes, more than a little confused now. There was something here that was just refusing to "click" in her mind. "Three? Is there another baby coming already?"

"Probably," Zia agreed. "He's part of the clan, so he'll always be taken care of no matter what. I guess he'll be stronger with the abilities because of the blindness. Other senses kicking in to make up for the one that doesn't work and all that." It reached a small hand out to stroke the infant's back. "He'll be alright, Mama, because he'll have you and Faolan and all of Farstep to love him and take care of him. They both will."
Faolan just chuckled. "Nae, girl. There's only th' twins. I was includin' you. You're as much me daughter as Zia's me . . . whatever you'd call it as me child. I think o' you both as me bains as much as th' twins. Elle does, too, you know." He looked down at Bel in the Essentic's arms. "She'll need a big sister, aye. So will Sam. Twins is a big step wi' th' raisin' an' me and Elle, we're always gonna need you an' Zia t' help us out." He looked up at Rhian. "We wouldnae asked Banning fae you two if'n we didnae need you both so much in our lives."

Ellandra nodded, stroking the baby's bright orange hair for a moment, before resting her hand on Ziazan's. "Don't forget, little one, that he'll have you and Rhian and eventually little Bel to look out for him, too." A smile spread across her face, soft and sincere, and just dripping with the love she held for all four of her children, human and Essentic. "And I'm sure since you've taken such good care of Faolan, you'll be very much able to do the same with little Sam."
Rhian blinked. "Really...?" she asked hesitantly, sounding not at all like herself for the moment, just like an uncertain young girl who doesn't know whether she belongs where she's at or not. "I know Mama needed and wanted be, but. . . I - I didn't know. . ." Taking after Ellandra for the moment, Rhian trailed off, not sure how exactly to say that she was terrified that Faolan had never wanted her around.
In her arms, Bel waved an arm around and blinked fuzzily, before starting to cry a little. Instantly Rhian looked to Faolan with wide eyes. "What do I do? How do I help her???"

Zia nodded. "Of course. I'll always be there for Faolan and his family. He'd be dirty and drunk all the time if it wasn't for me." The Essentic grinned, clearly teasing.
"Tha's not true. Well, th' dirty part, anyway," Faolan laughed, then looked down at Bel when she cried. "Oh, hey now, me wean." He looked at Rhian. "Just hold her close an' make soothin' sounds." He helped the Essentic with the infant, showing her what to do.

Ellandra smiledat Ziazan and started t say something, but it turned ino a yawn as her exhaustion began to catch up with her. "Mmmm......"
Rhian's eyes widened, and she did the best she could to soothe the infant, who, after a few terrifying moments of continued wailing, settled down and almost mmediately dropped off into sleep. "She's loud," Rhian whispered, blinking at Faolan while she held the baby.

"They hae t' be, girl," Faolan chuckled, "so we can hear them when they need us. You're good wi' her, though."
Zia moved so it was laying on the bed tucked up against Elle's side. "You should rest, Mama."
