Didn't know it was a civilian rifle if I'm being honest with you. To me both guns looked almost exactly the same, I'm not much use with guns, I know the basics and a little more, but obviously not to the extent that you do. I know piccatinny rails, cartridges, hollow point, firing functions and weapon types, as well as a few attachments, but besides that, nothing. You, on the other hand, know enough to be considered a fanatic.

I assume you live in America, as that seems to be the most gun obsessed country in the world. Are guns a common point of discussion or a common point of interest in America, or are we Brits just getting the wrong idea? And by we Brits I mean just me...

surprised
sweatdrop I am a fanatic. I must admit that much. I am a gun nut. I always wanna know more about guns. I research the companies and military periodicals in my free time.

Maybe it is an American thing but not with a lot of people. From what I can tell around my town it's still a niche thing though. Most just assume local fanatics are just crazy hillbillies.

Well, I wouldn't worry about it.

I spent like, a full day once, researching guns, because I was planning a dystopic novel, still am by the way, in which only a few governments are still standing, thanks to being islands segregated from the mainland. And the governments can afford no longer to produce guns on the scale they did before, so they use whatever. So I more or less led up to having this being the load out for a six man elite dystopic team.

Captain: Scar-L, side arm: Sig 226
Rifleman: Scar-H, Side arm: H&KUSP40
Sniper: L96 Arctic warfare, Side arm: Glock 17.
Technician: L74A1 shotgun, Side arm: Colt Python
Medic: MP5K, Side arm: Sig 228
Sub Machine Gunner: Spectre M4, side arm: H&K MK 23

And I was proud that i managed to create all of those characters, and decide upon all of their weapons by personality, the technician being the brainless tank, the captain the smart one, the sniper the cold killer (Thus the ARCTIC warfare, over the M40A3), the medic being the pacifist, the Rifleman being the all rounder and the sub machine gunner being the zippy one that runs around like he's on crack.

Well, just one thing.

The Colt Anaconda is only manufactured in .44 Magnum, .44 Special, then in 1993 the .45 Colt Centerfire . You could possibly mod one to .357 but it'd have to be a custom job. It was designed as a competitor part to the S&W Model 29 (Dirty Harry's Gun).

Now a Colt Python might be what you're looking for. that is chambered for .357 Magnum rounds by default.

I see my mistake. Thankies for that.

Maybe I'm just being overly picky, but lever-actions are rifles and not shotguns. Not all revolvers are magnums, the .38 Police Special for instance. More importantly, it might be a good idea to make some mention of the different firing stances and how changing the length of a barrel affects a gun's accuracy and range.

For Lawli, though, the gun thing depends on where you are at in the States. I live in Montana at the moment, and while there aren't many 'fanatics,' Montanans are, statistically, more proficient with longarms (rifles and shotguns) than other Americans, and own 1.75 firearms per household. At least, that was the number the last time I heard anybody do a survey, which was several years ago.

Lets see here...
1. http://www.iacshotguns.com/87w.html
I will make an addendum though, but not now. I know there's a lot of lever and pump action rifles for hunting.

2. Nowhere in this guide did I state that all revolvers were magnums. I did make the mention of magnum rounds when including revolvers because they're the most popular when people chose revolvers over magazine loaded handguns. I can edit that to simply state "revolver rounds" if you like though.

Your wording for that section implies that all revolvers are magnums. And I stand corrected on the shotgun. Never heard of or seen one before. My point was that something like this is far more common.

Hm. Maybe that's why I haven't been able to find the right parts for my grandfathers's lever-actions. Maybe they are shotguns. sweatdrop

Update:

Using Guns:
- Barrel

Not sure where to put that. Barrels aren't accessories, they're mandatory for your gun to work correctly.

I'll need some more time to research stances beyond the obvious: both hands on the gun, don't turn the gun sideways, one finger to squeeze the trigger, and iron sights exist for a reason.

The instructed firing stances are as follows: standing, kneeling, aided, prone.

Update:

Using guns:
- Stance

Trying to keep with conciseness while providing suitable information. I couldn't actually find anything on aided though.

I'm trying to avoid getting into point shooting. It sounds like a huge no-no in any situation where you have good visual settings, and well, Good ole Iron-sights. Otherwise reflex sights would help sway the point shooters.

Aided probably isn't the correct term for it, just the one that my drill instructor used in basic. It is also the most well known shooting stance, and is partially covered by all of the others. In the aided shooting stance the shooter is resting his/her body or the barrel of the gun against a foreign object.

I just want to say, thank you for creating this thread, period. May your knowledge of all things firearm slowly be absorbed into my mind, and the minds of others. pirate
