"Hm?" She said with some confusion, "What case?" She wasn't sure if the case Leon was talking about was what Tura was doing.

"Hm. So they ain't workin' on it." Leon muttered to himself, before studying the look on Melethia's face. Not lying so far, but still something not quite right about her taking a stroll. Although she said she carried the weapon for defense (understandable in what was now Riot City Eyris), Leon shivered at the thought. He'd been hit by an Elfire spell before, and miraculously lived through it, and he knew those were offensive weapons.

Not defensive ones.

But getting the woman in front of him to outright 'admit' she was carrying it for another purpose wasn't going to be easy, if it was possible at all. Then, it came to him.

Let her leave, and while she's leaving... keep a close eye on her from a distance. Deliberately take the opposite path, and keep the target in the corner of one's eye.

Great plan.

"Eh, if y'aint been briefed on it, I be seein' no reason for ya t' get 'nvolved, Lady." Leon shrugged. "I'll let ya get goin' t' wherever ya want now. I gotta be headin' back to..." he chose not to say where the Watch were meeting, but instead a more predictable response. "Th' Watch House."

Melethia put the tome back on her belt and walked to where she was going. She was going to grab a bit to eat at her favorite place, the local tavern. The owner knew her since she arrived in Leanania. It was one of the first places she went to. She sat down at the spot that was reserved for her and at her favorite thing there, spicy meat and some ale.

When he saw her enter a tavern, Leon became disinterested in the noblewoman walking the streets. Just out for some fine wine was all? Upon realizing that maybe he had become as tightly wound as he was accused of, the watch's Lieutenant let out a long sigh. He really needed a vacation, his work was stressing him out far too much.

"After this is over... we're both gonna be takin' a long break, Anri." he said to his steed, before he directed him back to where Ghis and company were meeting.

He was kind of worried about Amelia, whom looked a bit pale before leaving, and when he arrived back, he noticed that Ed must have followed her, as the wolf wasn't there anymore around the fountain. At least she wasn't alone.

Melethia contuned to eat her meal. She was VERY well enjoying her food. She had a nice laugh with the locals there. She was good friends with a few of them. She knew some of the guild members wouldn't understand that she liked being with the locals. (Yeah Arashe I'm talking about you!)

"He was?" The owner's face registered slight surprise; he didn't seem to have been expecting that. "I believe his new job is... well, was, I suppose... at some sort of restaurant or tavern or something across town. He wouldn't have any reason to..." A light dawned in the man's eyes suddenly, and he reached down to rummage under the counter. "Ah! I'm sorry, I remember now!" He drew a bag from under the counter, then reached out and offered it to Jin. "This bag belongs to that man. I could have sworn he'd taken it with him the last day he worked here, but about a week later I found it here again, so I sent a message to his house and he returned one saying that he would come pick it up as soon as he had the chance. More than likely, that was why he was headed here."

Jin reached out, a black-gloved hand closing around the bag. It felt as though there was something inside it, but the Priest couldn't gauge what. In any case, the tailor appeared on the level, if not a bit perverted himself. Perhaps the perversion was helping here... for someone whose former employee was brutally murdered, he was certainly quick to give information.

Not that Jin had any care to pose. It just felt... awkward. Maybe it was all the dark clothing he wore--he always did like to think it gave him a "mysterious, enticing" aura. It certainly helped his charm a lot better than his unmasked face would, that was for sure!

"I see. Thank you. This is very helpful... Unfortunate for the place that newly hired him, however. Did he say where he was going? A name, a street, anything like that?"

The bag? ...The Assassin could have stolen the bag and put it back here, then waited for the victim to appear before he struck. That's one possibility. But... if he did all that, why go to such lengths? He could've struck well beforehand and accomplished his objective... unless...

So he DOES have something planned. This guy wasn't just someone he randomly picked; or, if he did, he observed the man's activities and chose now to strike. He's already chosen his victims!

This man was... beginning to become an annoyance. The customers now coming in seemed nervous of him, and one had even left before purchasing anything. Why couldn't he just leave? The shopkeep couldn't possibly be under suspicion, and the man had said so himself, so what more did he have to answer? "It was... something with an owl in it, I honestly couldn't tell you," the man said, a bit more quickly this time. "Though I doubt they'll be much help. However, if you look in that bag... you'll see why he would have wanted it, I don't know why he left it behind. But please, do it outside, I don't want my precious customers exposed to that kind of thing here."

The shopkeep didn't seem to want him around anymore. Fair enough; he had been asking questions of a rather sensitive subject. He nodded once to the man, and with a "Thank you for your time" left.

Something with an owl on it? Well, that could be any number of places... at the very least, the assassin wasn't striking at random...

--------

The open bag lay on a rectangular table, its contents spread around--leather gloves, a leather coat, and some strong rope. Seated around the table were Charice, Javert, Ghis, and Leon; Jin remained standing.

"...So, the Assassin likely stole this bag, placed it back at the tailor's shop, then waited for the man to appear. I move, therefore, that the killings aren't random. This man's already picked his targets."

"...It's a bit of a stretch..." Charice noted. "We don't have proof here that the killer actually did all this. ...I guess it's plausible, though."

"So if we figure out the next victim, we can stop him before the seventh day passes?" Javert asked.

"It's not as though you'll only find ten lords-a-leaping on the streets at that time of day, Javert."

"No, but... i-if maybe, um... we find someone else who had strange things happen to them..."

"It's a sho' i' th' darrrk," Ghis responded, ending that train of thought. "As for this stuff here... well..."

Black leather coat. Black leather gloves. Some rope. The objects made Ghis think of some sort of common burglar. But hey, who knew? No way of knowing now, that was for sure...

Targets that were already picked, already marked... to this had been planned for a while, all these killings. Leon had seen these types of cases. They were difficult, very difficult, because one never knew how far ahead the culprit was.

And then there were the gloves, the rope, and the coat. "Since th' inf'rmation tol' us 'e was fired... 'e prob'ly wanted t' rob 'em blind for it. Then 'e was watched an' killed is m' guess. But 'e was watched long b'fore. If we only knew 'is name, I could be lookin' up 'is records... 'is crim'nal hist'ry. If he 'ad a track record, then.. our killer might be some kinda twisted vigilante."

Ghis wanted to argue the statement about the items in the bag, but then again, it was possible. Who knew? Perhaps Tura WAS just some twisted vigilante. But it was all just guesswork. Who knew? Even if the man had a track record, what about the woman? Nobody really seemed to know her. It was as though she may as well have never existed...

Leon noted Ghis's silence as something that could only mean...

The Captain thought he was wrong. Of course when you get a whole bunch of people together, no matter what the reason, then they're bound to have disagreements.

They still hadn't known the complete background of the victims so far (that would have been different if he were back in the record office!), so connecting them and coming to one conclusion was foolish.

The word 'crazed' definitely described the killer though. Another idea clicked. "I'll be guessin' this... that maybe he be startin' as an assassin o' crim'nals, but then he just started attackin'... normal people jus' 'cuz o' how eas'ly 'e's gettin' 'way wi' it. Look at how long he be dodgin' us so long, Cap'n Ghis... Charice... Javert... 'tis be shameful on our part, but t' him, 's all th' better.

Melethia left the tavern and contuned her walk in the town. There were a few things she needed to get while she was here so she could fit the undercover role for Tura even more. She went into a book store to grab a few books that weren't tomes. She had some liking to get information. Though the owner found it weird for a noblewoman like Melethia to want to read.

"...All just guesswork," Ghis replied, sliding a palm over his face. "Everythin' here is all guesswork i' th' end. We jus' need t' keep as much guarded as we can."

"We don't have enough to cover everywhere, Captain."

"Ah know."

And the town was silent. There was nothing else to be seen. The Watch would go back, as usual; the citizens would go about their days, as usual; though there was a bit of a fear among them, as the Watch had begun to move everywhere. Rumors began to spread about some sort of demon ravaging the town; but the people saw the Watch and were soothed. At least they were doing their job this time. They hadn't gone to fight some unknown threat.

Certainly, though, the next day they would be ready for his move. They would be waiting and watching for the assassin to show up. There was no chance...

But he did not. Not in the morning; not in the afternoon; not in the evening. There was nothing seen; no crime; no anything. It was odd. It was as if he'd gone through the first two and simply... disappeared. But it couldn't be that easy, could it? Even so, the day of rest would relax them a bit, give them a slight sense of security. If he'd been gone, perhaps he WAS gone. Perhaps it had only been a cruel trick of some sort, to make them think that there was a killer who wished to get back at them.

Soon, though... it was night. Late night; perhaps it was actually early morning? This would make more sense... there were no people out. A curfew had been set. However, Watch patrols still roamed the streets and the rooftops. In front of one of these, a small slip of paper floated down. A shadowed face gazed at him from under a white hood. "Give this to your leader," he whispered, and a light flashed from a tiny object in his hand, blinding the Watch member long enough that he could vanish.

Across the city, the same figure appeared again only a few minutes later, and repeated the process, this time handing the Watch member a small key. Then he was gone again, into the night.

The paper, once read, would have only a few words. "Behind the seven rooms where the night bird watches."
