"Huh?" Glitch asked, opting for the "I have no idea what you're talking about" strategy.

"Fine...play dumb..." She huffed and turned around, determined to stalk off and not care.

"I certainly did!" She was frustrated and upset that she was nice to him earlier.

Glitch blinked. Nobody had ever said that before. "I'd care if you got yourself caught in a trap," he repeated.

"Not that, you know, you would. But, in the highly unlikely situation, I'd have to come get you." Glitch said very, very quickly. "Cause no one calls me smart. Or even insinuates it."

"Servant?" Glitch repeated. "Listen, Princess, I'm not your servant. I'll never be your servant. Let's get that clear right now." He paused and added, "But I will be your friend."

"Friend? Friends never last. They're the first to leave and the last to come back. They have little to no loyalties..." She glared down her nose, then softened a bit, "Don't they?"

Glitch shook his head. "Friends are far more loyal than servants. Servants you pay to be loyal. Pay them enough and they might be loyal forever. But friends choose to be loyal, and that lasts longer than a salary."

"What?" Glitch asked, disbelieving. Well, okay, he could believe Nienna didn't have many friends . . . "You don't pay your friends! They're just your friends. Because they, uh, want to be. Yeah."
