"I'd be thrilled," A'bri said, smiling a touch wider. "Oh, I've been here a fair while. About a Turn. Not for this clutch specifically- well, actually, in a way for this one," he turned a fond, almost misty-eyed expression on Varth, who was paying him no mind at the moment. "I don't remember his name, but he was a Brownrider. ...Actually, I'm fairly certain he didn't give me his name. Possibly on purpose. Didn't seem too keen on giving me details, but his dragon was dead friendly. Best thing that ever happened to me, those two stopping nearby. My folks had a little cothold, just South of Igen. They were Smiths. Well, I was sort of a Smith too, but I wasn't very good at it." He flashed another smile, definitely enjoying Nan's presence.
"How about you? How long have you been here? How long ago did you Impress? Where are you from?" He was definitely curious, eager to learn as much as he could about anything she cared to share. "Oh, A'nt seems like a good fellow, it's good to meet one of his friends! He did look pretty shaken- well, everyone was pretty shaken-" A'bri's easy smile fell away for a moment, a flicker of the overwhelming grief the little Blue's betweening had caused visible on his features- "but his Brown was on the Sands at the same time, I think. Pretty sure he's the one I saw..." A'bri paused, thinking that over, and nodded. "Yeah, pretty sure. He steadied some, but he could probably use a visit." And A'bri should definitely see if he could spot Vera in the crowd, or Koios... Vera in particular, if Bell was with her he wasn't sure anyone else would be able to get close. Not that Bell let him close, either, but he'd handle the pecking.
:Thank you,: Varth replied, looking entirely pleased at the compliment. His posture shifted and he relaxed slightly- maybe not all Golds were like Arioth or Cheoth. This one seemed very nice, in fact, even if she was bigger than him. She at least knew that he and His would do well. :Mine likes Yours,: he added, a note of approval in his voice. It was good that His liked Reneneth's. Reneneth was very smart for a Gold.

giftwrapped The human contact made La flinch slightly from surprise, and she turned to the speaker and saw Zara. …oh. That was…aw. “Hey yourself, Zara,” she said quietly, shifting and hugging the bluerider back. “I know, it’s just…shards.” She shook her head, unable to get rid of the horrific memory of the little blue and the dead egg. “Shards,” she repeated, unsure of what to say. She wasn’t going to cry again; she’d gotten quite enough of that done at the Hatching itself, and now she was waiting for the numbness of shock to set in.
“It…that scared me. More than any of the other Hatchings ever have,” she murmured. “I’ve never felt so powerless.” "Don't drink too much of that," Zara advised quietly, eyes flicking to La's mug. La had more training than she did, but in a time like this...it was safe to assume normal common sense might not kick in. Many seemed to be heading for the refuge of their cups, and Zara didn't want La to be one of them. "You'll just feel worse in the morning if you do." Hesitating, she was silent for a long moment as she mentally debated the wisdom of her next words. "If you want, I'll stay tonight."
Flushing, she quickly added, "Not like that but...for company. I know Isonth's there but...sometimes you need people too."

Ryugen "Knowing the Weyrwoman... and given Favan's temperment, I'm fairly well assured it's not being ignored." S'kagi answered, grimacing faintly at the complicated and prickly subject. "I haven't been privy to the discussions, but I'm sure it's under debate. Favan doesn't want to be a Junior Weyrwoman forever, she's too ambitious." he didn't add that this was perhaps 'too ambitious for her own good'. She was a firey woman, and while that wasn't bad, he wasn't sure she was as prepared as she thought she was. That was an opinion probably better kept to himself. "The problem I suspect we're facing is that it's complicated. "No thread is falling, no queens have been lost, and founding a Weyr is an enormous and lengthy proposition. It's not as though we can majestically wave a hand and have crafters magically build a new Weyr overnight, and because the dragon population is also growing, we can't simply fix the problem with temporary structures for the men and women of the Weyr. Neither can we simply ask people to go home, though I think if we see any more wine theives or the like, Z'nal may risk a month of night watch to argue the point with the Weyrwoman himself." He offered a wry smile at this, hoping it addressed some of the undoubted frustrations in the Weyr. Well, perhaps answered was too strong a word, but spoke to. "I have a great deal of respect for the Weyrwoman, and a great deal of faith that even if she doesn't feel the need to speak to it until a solution is in view, she's not one to pretend the problem doesn't exist." C'mor nodded, hoping silently that the elder bronze rider was right in his asessment of Helirra's character; personally he had his doubts. "That's good to know. It's easy to assume nothing's being done when you don't hear anything about plans for the future. Solving this problem will be difficult to say the least so far as I can see. Just to have a new Weyr pop up would be lovely, but something like that would take turns to create, not to mention the issues with working out who would tithe to the new place. It would be ideal to have a new Weyr in an unpopulated place that could then grown new holds around it but while that was happening who would be supporting the Weyr, and again who would be building it?..." He had probably rambled on for quite long enough now; S'kagi had no doubt come to the same conclusions and didn't need some weyrling spouting them at him.
"Sorry," he said after a moment with a faint smile, "I have a bad habit of thinking aloud." What he wasn't going to state aloud was the idea that kicking theives out was a good plan. If they couldn't respect the rules, clearly they didn't deserve the chance to Impress a dragon... but if things were run that way, would he have been thrown out over that incident at the lake? He hadn't taken anything, but merely being there had been enough cause for Z'nal to punish himself, Mal, and Ren as much as Firyal and Veyes. Surely for such a harsh punishment more effort would be made to find out the truth of the matter. He honestly didn't expect such from Z'nal - the man who thought the way to teach people to be a wing was to punish all from the crimes of a very few - but somebody else would step in. Hopefully. The idea of having been sent away from the place that had been his home all his life, and never having found Naedreth... It was too much to contemplate.
"Do not think things like that Mine," Naedreth said with an edge of unhappy keen. "If you had not been there I do not know what I would have done. None of the others were good enough for me."
That made him shudder, and have a sudden mental image of the handsome bronze helplessly wandering the sands before screaming like that blue and vanishing. What if theives had dragons depending on them to be there? Surely such a person would not be the only one compatible with a dragonet, surely. It was still a sobering thought though.

P'ree walked around the hall with a mug in his and and a forced smile on his face. The blue going between had confirmed that this night would be a good one. Iawanth was out of sorts something unlike him, his mostly failing logic had come to the conclusion that someone could not really live life..if they were not living.
P'ree's gaze fell on the young man that Iawanth had spoken to, Anont..now..A'nt, he'd impressed a brown.
You were right Iawanth, the Anont impressed, brown too. P'ree started walking toward A'nt, he meant to congratulate the young man. Iawanth did not have much of a knack for picking out those who will impress.
What young man?
The one that startled us, when we found out about the eggs..Anont, he is now A'nt you should find out his dragons name for me.
"A'nt!" P'ree called cheerfully, "Congratulations!"
I am supposed to see who you are, little brown, I am Iawanth, I am a blue..and I met Yours once.

Katori Kenshin No it can't. It can't be a hap because it... is a bowl. Hasufeth came as close as a Dragon could to knitting his brows, eyes flecked a bit yellow with discomfort and confusion. Why did she say it was a hap? It was a bowl! A bowl, for Faranth's sake! Oh, people were confusing... His brother was ignoring him at least. That was a good thing. The Blue was truly only a bit smaller than Xanthoth, the size of a good Brown himself (and their Hatchling sizes did help minimize the difference), but he still felt very uncomfortable in the Bronze's presence. He was too big, too commanding of attention, too suave and important. Hasufeth felt very inadequate... Yes, it was a good thing his brother was preoccupied. At least this strange Green was small, even if she was horribly misguided in her knowledge of human clothing.
M'rik never took his hand off the jittery Blue's horn knob, rubbing it absently while he talking. Balin- ah, B'lin! That would take getting used to. But B'lin seemed even more stuffy than usual, blushing and mumbling and hardly shaking the poor girl's hand. Never were a Rider and Dragon so different! It was a shame- Nimwae wasn't at all bad looking, and Xanthoth only confirmed B'lin had his eyes on the ladies. Hey Hasufeth, do you think you could work some, uh... Dragon magic? Get more than a grunt out of that guy? I do not have magic, mine. ... It was a figure of speech. Can't you talk to the Bronze? I would rather not, please, Mine. He was just starting to feel like those two wouldn't look at him... Please? I don't want to stand here and talk for him all night.
Hasufeth flared his nostrils, fidgeting his shoulders a little. He spoke to Xanthoth without turning to face him. Mine says Yours should talk more, please. It didn't take a sixth sense to see what was going on. It didn't even take all of the first five. No human in the room heard him, except for his rider of course, but they didn't have to. All you needed was a pair of working eyes to be in the know. The most charming smile he could manage--and boy, was it ever charming--coupled with a flutter of his wings made it all too clear. Flirting with a green already. What a showy little bronze.
Was his brother trying to, ahem, block him already? When he was older this was liable to cause some bickering. Not so much a problem now. The ever-smooth Xanthoth had no problem getting his game back no matter how many times he was interrupted, and it would take much more to push him over the annoyed line, let alone an angry one. None the less, he was surprised his clutchmate had spoke to him. They were rivals from birth. Sort of. If you could even call that a rival. Hasufeth was a lovely color and Xanthoth was so glad he found His (unlike a certain other blue), but he just didn't measure up. In personality. In the literal sense, he almost did.
His inner-monologue would have suggested otherwise, but Xanthoth wasn't trying to come off superior to his sibling (if he was or not didn't matter; details!). He just wanted to get back to what he was doing. B'lin didn't need to talk more, when he thought about it. B'lin talking more right now could only lead to bad things for him at that very moment.
Shame that he didn't think about it first.
B'linmine, Hasufeth would like you to speak up!
Truly a rebel, B'lin... said nothing. At first. He was tired, and he looked it. He was grumpy, angry even, and he looked it. The face he made just then would have made a rock shiver, and worse still, he made it at Merik. Then the young man sighed. Finally, he did speak. Just once before silently dismissing himself from any company.
"Don't talk to my brother anymore. He's stupid, and he'll get you in trouble."
Miiine! Xanthoth was positively pouting as he scrambled after his rider, away from the feast, away from M'rik and away from his beloved green. He didn't regret his choice; they just had some work to do!
Don't whine. Wingleader's don't whine.
They don't turn so red either, B'lin!
...Just stop talking.

At the sound of his name- his new name, he supposed, since he was still adjusting to the idea of it- A'nt jerked up from the table, looking around to catch sight of the other rider. When he finally realized who it was, his expression brightened- standing up fully, he waved awkwardly to P'ree. It wasn't that he wasn't excited to see the other rider- shards no!- it was simply that A'nt didn't exactly know the proper protocol for telling someone 'yes, I Impressed as the little blue betweened, but I'm still giddy as ever!' ...Maybe they had a scroll for sale, for something like that. He'd have to look into it.
Mine, who approaches you? ...Do you know him? He is not going to touch you like the other did, right? Matsukazeth prodded nervously, still uncomfortable with the concept of someone touching His. Patting the Brown on the head reassuringly, A'nt gave him a soft smile.
He's a friend, Matsukazeth. No need to worry. Turning back to the older rider once more, A'nt's smile spread to a full grin.
"Thank you! I- I'm honored and shocked, really. Totally caught me off guard, y'know. He, uh. His name's Matsukazeth." He added, gesturing with a hand to the little brown. In response, Matsukazeth sat up a bit straighter, crooning in pride.
Iawanth? Mine has not mentioned you, but it has only been a short while. If Mine likes you, you must be good! I am Matsukazeth, and I am a great brown- perfect for someone as good as Mine!
...Oh shards, this pride was going to kill him. If Matsukazeth was going to spread his graces to everyone, as A'nt was quickly learning he would, he was definitely going to have to get a spine. Or at least stop turning red so easily.

Annelie was there for one reason and one reason only: Yansanth had told her to be -- to make sure the 'little ones' were all right. While the young woman was also worried about the dragonets, and of course cared about their current state, she imagined that her time would of better use if she were tending to the young Queen. ... but Yansanth had been incredibly adamant about the whole thing, and there was really no use with arguing.
However, Gnattie did not wish to stay in the weyr and sleep like Yansanth had opted to do, and the little flit winked onto Annelie's shoulder. But given the previous happenings, even the aggressive flit was morose and saddened, and her head low and her wings drooped. She still glared at passer-byes as Annelie maneuvered through the throngs of people, but the small green uttered not a peep nor moved to n** innocent sleeves.
------------ Meanwhile...
While Annelie had no particular destination in mind, Ferris certainly did. Her eyes were still red from her earlier weepfest, but this was a Feast, and congratulations were still necessary. ...And Ferris knew exactly who to HIT first.
Ferrismine, who are we looking for? Hwinth questioned Hers as they wove through the numerous bodies in the Bowl. The small green had to trot a little to keep up with the fast pace of Ferris, but she wasn't bothered.
"Weee..." Ferris drawled as she peeked around the middle of one man and then stood up on her toes to peer over someone else, " are looking for Woman-Weylin. Or whatever he changed his name to. He Impressed your close-knit blue brother, my Dear."
Toronth? That is a good plan, Mine. The small green nodded to herself and continued to follow, paying not much mind to some people staring. Hers indeed had a good plan in going to see Toronth and His, but Hwinth did not agree with the way of going about it. So she decided to makes things easier.
Toronth? Toronth, Mine is looking for Yours. Where are you?

Looking at the mug when Zara advised her, La grimaced. She hadn't even gotten a chance to get properly drunk yet; this was only her second mug of cider. But she was feeling the slight buzz of being, well, buzzed, and had intended to get herself thoroughly intoxicated. Well, now that she had a healer apprentice harping at her, she supposed there was nothing she could do and nodded. "After this mug, I'll be done," she answered.
Glancing up when Zara made her offer, she smiled a little bit and gave the girl another hug. "Thank you, Zara, I'll think about it, okay?" she said quietly. Sex was the last thing on her mind at the moment (she wouldn't have even thought it if Zara hadn't blushed), but her weyr was currently empty of roommates and she liked the idea of company tonight. It wasn't a good night to be alone. Glancing over the crowd for a moment, she caught sight of Annelie and smiled a little bit at Zara.
"Come on, there's Anne. If you don't know her yet I'll introduce you." She untangled herself and stood up slowly, taking Zara's hand. The more people they could get together, the less the shared burden of sadness and the better they'd all feel.
"Annelie!" she called, waving to the woman and trying to catch her attention.
---
Hwinth? Where are you?
Catching his sister's voice in his head, Toronth stopped in his inspection of whichever boy he had knocked W'in into and stood on his hindlegs, attempting to look over the crowd. We are over here with Redhath, and His, and someone else? We will come find you. He gave her the equivalent of a mental shrug and then bumped W'in urgently.
W'inmine, we have a change of course, he said, and W'in glanced down at him, suddenly glad to move. The hissing of the other blue had made him nervous, and he felt entirely too awkward to be intruding on whatever M'al was talking about with other people.
We are going to find Hwinth's, mine.
"Who?"
Hers knows you and is looking for you.

P'ree thought the boy impressing at the same moment the blue went between wasn't necessarily a bad thing a happy moment like impressing to cover up a terribly sad moment..well..it worked out in his mind. He couldn't help but be set on edge, the blue reminded him just how lucky he was that Iawanth was still with him after all the stupid things they did together.
"Matsukazeth," P'ree smiled and tried to commit the name to memory, "I hope you both have many, many turns together."
He chuckled and took a draw from his mug, "Iawanth was positive that you would impress, it is odd for him to remember names, but he knows yours."
It is nice to meet you Matsukazeth, Iawanth rumbled as he stretched out in his Weyr. He had thought the boy would pair with a blue...blues after all were quite perfect themselves. I do not recall when I impressed Mine..but he says it was the best day of his life. Does yours think the same?
"I am so happy for you, impressing is..well you know.." he chuckled again.

Upon hearing her name, Annelie startled just slightly before turning her head where she guessed the calling voice had come from. It wasn't long before she saw La, and her attention immediately perked and her eyebrows lifted, especially when she noticed the other woman trailing behind. From here she couldn't tell who the other was, and although she changed her direction and headed straight to La, she kept a little shyness and uncertainty in her step, but a small smile on her face just the same.
"Lana!" she eventually replied, but other than that she was unsure of what to say.
------
Redhath. Redhath...
Hwinth stopped amidst the garble of people and she too went up on her hind legs. However... it didn't help much and she could see were legs. Lowering herself back down, she quickly moved back to Ferris's ever-meandering side and bumped her head into the girl's legs.
"Ack --"
Ferrismine, come this way she said, and veered off to the right. Ferris barely managed to open her mouth before the little dragonet disappeared into a sea of legs and she had to push through a few bodies just to catch up.
Toronth, I cannot see you or Redhath. Mine and I will wait for you -- we're near a food table... with three men on one side. I think they're sleeping, Toronth. It wasn't the best location directions in the world, but it was good enough. There weren't that many food tables.
Besides, Hwinth thought as she finally stopped moving and took a seat on the ground near said table, sitting in one place was a good plan for being found by another.
"Hwinth, what are we doing?"
Waiting for Toronth and His, Mine. He said they are coming.
"Oh. ... Okay." ...

Unfortunately, A'nt could work no such magic in his own mind- the boy was still distraught over the Hatching's events, and likely would be till the end of his days. Worse, too, was the creeping worry and realization that he hadn't been watching Matsukazeth at all when he'd hatched. His focus had entirely and devotedly been on the little b-
MINE! Honestly! If I do not keep an eye on you, all you do is talk yourself down! Do not worry, I have told you! Yours doesn't mind, for I have you now! And while it was semi-threatening in nature, A'nt could sense nothing but love from the little dragon. Laughing a bit in nervousness as his face colored, A'nt looked back to P'ree from Matsukazeth, giving a dismissive wave of embarrassment.
"He, aha. ...Thinks I have self-confidence issues. And, uh, thank you! On the well wishes, and the compliment from Iawanth. It's nice to know somebody has some faith in me.
Of course he does! Matsukazeth hummed brightly, once more stretching as if to show himself off. I am perfect for Mine, because he is perfect, and I will work just as hard as he does! We are a perfect match!

"Speaking of tubers, well... not really. Have either of you tried those little pastry things? They're delicious, and..." M'rik's words trailed off and even he shrank back a bit at B'lin's glare. It probably wasn't intentionally angry... right? He didn't ever get angry, did he? Hasufeth inhaled sharply, eyes slowly brightening into yellow. Faranth, if there was ever an intimidating man...
"I, uh... You said... You mean Bachi, or...?" He gave a sheepish and nervous look, trying awkwardly to smile as B'lin stormed off on his way. What in the world had brought that about? Maybe he'd been a bit annoying before, but by the egg, that was just uncalled for. Hasufeth squawked a little, brushing up against his weyrling's legs. Was that my fault again? Did you do that? *What* did you say to him? The Blue shuffled uncomfortably, opening and closing his mouth without a sound. I only told Xanthoth you thought His should talk more!
He turned to Nimwae with a 'hmph'ing sort of sigh, running a hand over his hair. "Was that my fault? I guess it was my fault. He does that a lot when I'm around." Really, now, what *was* that boy's problem?

"You know Cordel would never let me hear the end of it if I let you get soused," Zara chided gently, allowing herself to be led towards Annelie. She recognized the young woman from the Hatching before Fuxith's, although she wasn't very familiar with her from before or after it. Well, it couldn't hurt to say hello, and Fuxith would undoubtedly encourage it if he were awake. With his focus on a pristine image, golds and their riders had a sort of exalted status in his eyes.
"Good evening, goldrider Annelie." She greeted the queenrider with a slight bow.

Ollen had pulled on her best clothing, a thin green tunic with fine stitching on the sleeves and thin brown pants. She didn't get the bath he longed for her ease her muscles, but was able to comb her hair and clean herself up to look respectful enough for her Auntie to approve. She walked into the hall among the groups of people and was relieved to know there would be food and hopefully fun after the terrible incident with the blue and the last small egg.
She scanned the crowd a smile plastered on her face, she was determined to experience an entire hatching, including the feast. From other candidates she had heard wild stories of what happens at the feast; she doubted there would be much celebrating after the blue went between.
Spotting La she started toward her, one of the only faces she knew in the crowd. Ahoy in all of her excitement to see so many people, especially those that could be potential candidates for scratching swooped above heads and fluttered a familiar face, La, someone her human had many pictures of.
"Ahoy, you dimglow, get back here!" She scolded loudly.

"The only problem with thinking out loud is that you occasionally have to wonder who else is listening." S'kagi half joked. "Especially when there are multiple queens in the Weyr. Makes for an very interesting time of it." Especially since Favan was so... ambitious. "Of course the other problem is that I'm hearing a lot more grumbles about pranks and things not being done correctly. That's not helping either." He added with a frown, steering away from the political aspect of the situation. "Haven't run into it personally, yet, but I'm hoping it's just stress. But then, what have we run into lately that has a simple answer?"
