the best band camp story i have is when our band played at the portage county randolph fair.....right after we were done playing we went back 2 the buses to get our stuff and our band directer was standing outside the buses waiting and no one wanted to walk all the way in 2 get changed and then have to come back so we all got on the bus and changed and everyone came off the buses with different clothes on she didnt notice a thing........it was hilarious!!!!

This year's band camp for me is going to be nuts... Senior year, amazing show, same ol' useless section.
The only difference is that my best friend is going to be there bothering me nonstop because he's going to the community college and has arranged to help with marching band. Since he refuses to go down to the field to help with basics, he's going to be upstairs with my pit, driving me insane. And yes, this is probably exactly how it's going to go in about four months, too...
Oooh, boy, this is gonna be fun. I'm definitely going to have some new stories to tell in this thread after this summer.

I think my best stories are from my freshman year. biggrin We had just found out that one of my guy friends were gay and he was open to anything fun. We decided to dress him up as a girl. We got a dress, coconut bra, and a blond wig. We took him to my BD to show him and he proceeds to flirt with my BD. My BD nearly peed his pants he was laughing so hard. We named him Debra and till this day he is still Debra.
Then there was the day we were getting ready for a competition. I had gotten there a little earlier then needed but so did our senior tuba player, and our senior baritone. I started waving franticly at them. The tuba player looks at me and said "Repetitive waving gives you brain cancer." The Baritone player was kinda an idiot and he freaks out an screams "REALLY!?!" I cried laughing.... biggrin

heart heart I'm sad because I just recently graduated from high school and the community college I go to does not have a band or a marching band. My three years of marching was the greatest experience of my life. Marching band to me is a lot more than just drill, music, and a whole lot of life dedication but memories and everlasting friendships. Marching band is a passion for me it's just heartbreaking I won't be in it now more. My favorite story is from my sophmore year. Our band director let us go to short pump mall in Virginia. My friends and I were so hyper and happy that we got superior rates at VDOBA that energy was running through us. We were basicly really jittery especially after we had starbucks.

wow. i almost wish we did field shows...our band just competes at parade competitions, so we don't need a really long band camp...just 9-4 monday through friday...one fun thing is we get divided into teams that have a color and a specific theme (like music genres, pixar movies, animal packs/schools/flocks/etc. just to name past ones) and then thursday night we do a dinner, and each team brings food that is (dyed usually) their color, and the bd and guard coach and DM and assistant DM if there is one, judge the food, then we put on skits that show our theme and we've been working on for about 4 days...so they suck...but now i'm assistant guard captain, so i have to show up at like 6 30am, and sometimes not leave until 9...and i'm gonna get yelled at more when i mess up drill downs... sad

Band camp here is a week and a half away.. and lasts 'till school.. in SEPTEMBER. We have sectional week, camp week at a college campus, and seven hour practice and conditioning. The T.O.B circuit here is pretty competitive, we're always neck and neck with Philip-Barbour marching band... But we killed them last year, so the confidence hasn't worn out yet =w=
I just hate how I have to shift from nocturnal to diurnal -n- And how band camp usually falls on what seems to be the HOTTEST WEEK EVER. Report time is 5:00am, we get back to the dorms at 11, lights out 11:30. Everyone's feet hurt by the end of day two, and we have to march EVERYWHERE, regardless of where we're going.
But I do love band camp =w= It's so fun. Though I do think either the drum major or my band teacher is going to PUNCH ME IN THE FACE. That'll be fun.. I'll have someone take rapid snapshots so i can make a flip-book of that occasion so I can remember it in full detail for years to come =w=

I am getting super-pumped for band camp this year. =D It's my senior year, and I'm a section leader. We have pre-camp in two weeks, which is 7:30 to 12:30 for section leaders (8:30 to 12:30 for everyone else) on Monday through Thursday, then on Friday it's from 8 to 12. Then us seniors have a meeting of sorts and start packing things for band camp, like sousaphones, pit instruments, stands, all of that fun stuff.
Then bright and early Saturday morning, the seniors meet at Camp Bountiful in Jackson, Ohio! We set up camp, do some fun senior stuff, and then on Sunday the rest of the band shows up! We're there for a week, until a performance for the parents on Saturday, then we pack up and go home. After our real band camp we have practice every week day from 8 to 12 until teacher work days begin, then they're from 2:30 to 5:30. Once school starts we practice nearly every day from 3:15 to 5:30, with football games on Fridays and the occasional contest on Saturdays.
But surely once band camp is over I'll have lots of good stories! C:

so i have no stories yet for this year for band camp is Next week which is awesome can't wait anyway last year and probably this year Marching band was amazing i ended up near my Best friend who is a mellophone and im a trombone and when ever i passed him in rehearsal i would say something ridiculous to him at one point i made him laugh so hard during rehearsal that he got yelled at and also during the show last year the other mellophone was in front of him in the snake thing we did which would have been fine except she always went way to fast and we were going backwards so she couldnt see him so he would always be like Sean go faster and i wouldnt because the trombone behind had sharpened the point of his trombone so he could attack people so ya that was really funny also which reminds me last year the other mellophone when into the other trombones spot and he pretty much tackled her it was funny cause she got angry at him and he was just like it was my spot you were in it i took it back

We go away to camp. We leave the first Monday of August for EIU, and we stay there until Saturday. We're outside for most of the day, we do sectionals in the afternoon, and indoor music stuff at night. After we finish the music stuffs, sometimes there's pickup basketball games, people order pizza, it's a fun time biggrin Everyone gets super tan and we get closer as a group. Last year, which was the first year we did this going away thing, we straightened this guy's extremely curly hair. It took an hour and a half with two straightners.

My band has around 80 people. xd
I don't have full out band camp yet (that's the first two weeks of august), but we do have a mini-camp. Monday-wednesday next week from 9-9. We have everyone do the fundamentals, so that's not a separate thing beforehand. Our band camp is just the fields and eating in the school, too- I think most people have it like that.
We had a month off last year before band camp, and it hurt once we started up again...it's gonna hurt, but after these practices, the normal ones seem really short and easy for awhile. :]

Yay band camp is next week for me yet im having mixed emotions such as our damn school messed everything up, by changing the hours of the school during the summer so we can have air conditioning, so now he has to cut lunch to half an hour instead of and hour which sucks for me cause im one of those kids that walks to the Acme next door which would be fine but since im like the slowest walker ever it takes me 20 mins to get into the Store so im gonna have to like run there and then eat on the way back lol i feel sorry for the kids that go to McDonalds and other fast food restaurants lol they are gonna have to find a way to make it quick. Im excited about the actual thing though i loved band last year and made practically most of my band friends during those 2 weeks now i just gotta break the freshman in that i dont already know in so they will be social too!

Our bd changed the hours and the length of band camp. Now we have to stay 8-5 every day for the next two weeks. The good thing is that our lunch is now an hour and a half instead of just one hour. smile

So, because the woodwinds are ON THE BALL and amazing (=D), we play games and have story time during sectionals, 'cause we get our work done fairly quickly. So, on monday, one of our techs decided to tell us this lovely story that had happened earlier that day...
So, it was after basics block at noon, and we all were heading in for lunch. The band room is right by the parking lot where all the school buses are, and apparently there were these two guys fighting near the buses, with a lady filming them. Well, our director went up to them and asked them to stop, and apparently one of them pulled out a knife! :O Well, her husband was with her (he's a history teacher, and pretty awesome B] ), and pushed her back and started yelling at them while she called the cops. Well, the two guys jumped into a car and drove off, while the lady filming them...well, I have no idea what happened to her. xd
Well, at this point, our techs (three of them- trumpet tech, flute tech, and claxophone tech) had been in the trumpet tech's car, about to go get lunch, and they had seen the entire thing. So, they decided to chase them to "avenge the band director's honor". xd Well, one of them got the license plate down, so they told that to the police, and continued to chase the two guys. After a lot of reckless driving, they managed to corner the car, while the police were still having trouble finding them, the guy with the knife ran away...but eventually the police came, and our techs went to subway. The end!
Apparently they're calling themselves the "Justice Legacy", because they're agents of justice, and the trumpet tech's car is a Legacy. xd This is what makes me love band camp so much more...
