Mir moved up the storm drain, climbing with practiced ease. She moved swiftly, going from one hold to the next, listening to Demi’s breathing beneath her. When Demi called up to her, Mir nodded her head, her concentration mainly on the task at hand. About half way, Mir noticed that Demi’s breathing was becoming more uneven and ragged, and she worried that she had given Demi something that she wasn’t ready for in her current state. It seemed that way, and Mir kicked herself mentally a little. Wasn’t it her that had said that they would be taking it easy to begin with? To go slowly until Demi had fully healed? And what was she having her pupil do? Climb the side of a freaking building! Hardly something that was slow and easy. Mir growled under her breath, digging in and climbing faster. If Demi didn’t have enough strength, there was no way Mir could help her if she fell off. Full of worry, Mir pushed through the last few meters, pushing herself out and over the top and turning around to watch Demi anxiously. She tensed as Demi clawed her way over the lip of the building, ready to leap forward and catch her if need be. She didn’t have to however and breathed a sigh of relief as Demi hauled herself over and flopped down on the rooftop. Shaking her head, Mir closed her eyes, a slightly pained expression on her face. “It’s me that should be sorry, Demi-san; I pushed you too hard when you really are still recovering. I said I’d go slowly and then I had you do something like this.” Mir bowed forward, her eyes still closed. “Please forgive me for putting you in danger.

Demi panted lightly and blinked up at her mentor's apologetic face. "Mir-sensei, it's not all your fault..." She mewed lightly, grinning the the Singapura, "I pushed myself too far, that's all." The young girl's chest still heaved, and her legs felt hot and useless, her arms like weight to either side of her. Demi wasn't moving off the roof anytime soon. "I guess maybe we should have taken it easy today after all... I don't think I can do much more today." Both ears fell back in defeat at her admittance, and Demi sighed to herself, relaxing against the rooftop. "Sorry, Mir-sensei."

Mir smiled a little to herself, coming back up frm the bow to grin a little back down at her pupil. "It's alright Demi-san, we'll take it easy for the rest of the day." Placing her hands lightly on her hips, Mir glanced around at the surrounding rooftops. The clothing shop where her home was was not too far away; once Demi had recovered enough, perhaps the could head over to her tent home and recuperate there for the remainder of the day. The two other Plaza cats she lived with wouldn't mind, and it would be cooler under the shelter of the tent. Looking back down at Demi, Mir smiled gently again, then turned around and sat down next to her pupil, leaning back on her palms and staring up into the blue sky...

~---~

THe morning air was crisp and clean as Mir jogged out to the fountain at the center of Kokitsu plaza. Over the time that she had been teaching Demi, it had become their meeting spot for training; an easy spot to find each other and start the days workout; thought today was different from the months leading up to it; today was the day of Demi's final test. Mir hopped up on the rim of the fountain, stretching over and down, reaching towards her toes, lost in thought. Demi had progressed very well; soaking up Mir's instructions and taking to each more advanced concept as it came. Mir was very proud of her student and very glad she decided to ever take Demi on in the first place, all those weeks back. Standing up she leaped forward, tucking into a roll and sweeping her hand up, slicing the air in front of her.

Padding into the square, Demi approached the fountain with confidence that she had lost weeks ago. Bronze-colored eyes trained on her mentor as her body moved rhythmically through the various moves and exercises she had been teaching the Bobtail lately. Demi's tail gave a little wag and she approached the Singapura with a wide smile, "Morning, Mir-sensei!" Since starting her training with the older female, Demi's body had begun to change, her overall form was much smoother, and she had developed lithe muscles in her legs and arms as well as endurance. Without saying much else, the dappled bobtail sunk into a few stretches of her own, happily mirroring Mirelle.

Mir nodded to her pupil, smiling slightly. Stretching her arms up over her head, she went over her plan for Demi’s test, going through a mental checklist of everything she had taught the bobtail. And indeed, she had taught Demi everything; everything Mir herself knew, anyways. Glancing over at the young bobtail, Mir watched her as she mirrored the exercises. This ritual had almost become second nature for them both, Mir hardly thought about the stretches themselves anymore, instead letting her mind prepare for the day’s lesson. The square was slowly beginning to stir around them; shops were opening up and people were beginning to go about their day. Mir spotted a few of her comrades, recognizable by their rose tattoos, moving about through the square and on the roof tops. Crouching down to stretch out her legs, Mir exhaled, fully centered for the run that was to come. But a run wasn’t all that the Singapura had in mind for her pupil’s final test. Smiling a little to herself, Mir shifted her weight and swept her leg around towards Demi, aiming for the younger cat’s ankles. Awareness of one’s surrounding was something that had to occur at all times.

Going through the warm-up routine with a giddy enjoyment, Demi could feel herself calming internally. Just as she was nearly finished with her stretches, her ears gave a flick and bronze-colored eyes snapped over to her mentor, her body moving instinctively to avoid the blow. Amusement danced in the bobtail's eyes as she grinned to the older cat. "Ah, is that how it's going to be this morning?" She mewed with a playful wag of her stubby tail, "That's fine, give me your best today, Mir-sensei!" With that, Demi took off, beginning their routine run and keeping her senses open for her surroundings. She was prepared to use everything Mirelle had taught to her over the weeks. The wind brushed her fur as she jogged at a light pace, and the girl nimbly dodged through the legs of several humans as the square woke up. Their route veered off into the park, in which Demi traded humans for trees and bushes as obstacles. Uneven terrain was still the bobtail's most difficult hurdle. Being tail-less made keeping one's balance when the level of the ground was constantly changing underpaw quite difficult. Still, Demi had been progressively getting better with this as she trained, and handled the ground decently well now. However, this was where she had to be most wary of her mentor's attacks, so the dappled cat breathed carefully and kept her senses open.

Mir smiled calmly up at Demi, still crouched down from her kick. As Demi took off, she headed after her pupil; pushing off from the concrete with her tensed leg. She weaved around legs and over shoes, moving along their practiced route to the park. Scooping up a handful of small stones as they passed over one of the paths that snaked through the trees of the park, she stuck them in her back pocket, keeping a constant distance between herself and Demi. The bobtail knew where she was going, and Mir was going to make it as difficult as possible for her to get there. Leaping up onto a bench, she darted to the top of it and into the branches of a nearby tree, moving from branch to branch to intersect her student a short distance away. Making her way through the leaves, she slipped a stone out of her back pocket, readying it in her hand. As she reached the point where their usual route intersected her path in the trees, she spotted Demi moving beneath her and threw the stone, aiming for the spot between the bobtail’s shoulder blades. Then she was off again, heading forward to find a spot to harass her student again. Mir's breathing was even and a slight smile was playing about her lips. She was confident Demi would pass her tests, but that didn't mean it would be easy.

As she ran, Demi was aware that her mentor was nearby constantly. She would catch a whiff of the Singapura's scent as she wound around the trees or catch the sound of leaves rustling nearby. She had determined some time ago that the older cat was in the trees, and so she was ready for an aerial attack. What the young bobtail wasn't prepared for was a projectile attack, and she barely caught the whistling sound of the stone as it sailed through the air in time to dodge it. Thrown off her rhythm for a moment, the small girl quickly locked her eyes on the stone as it flew past her cheek and pelted the dirt path to her left. With a small nod to herself, the girl pushed forward with renewed vigor, now chasing after her mentor from the ground. She would be ready for the next attack for sure. As she picked up pace again, Demi calmed herself and opened her senses even more to her surroundings. It was clear that dodging the attacks wouldn't be sufficient. She'd have to locate the older female and launch an attack of her own.

Mir twitched an ear back behind her and heard her pupil moving through the duff below and behind her. Jumping forward to the next tree, she rounded the trunk to catch a glimpse of the bobtail female. Judging the distance and how much time she had before Demi caught up to her, Mir darted up in to the higher branches, heading for the top of the tree. The only problem Mir had with nature was that there were limited options as far as levels to move around on. You had the ground, up on the branches, and then farther up the tree. In the Plaza, there were so many more levels to choose from, and variations even in those levels.

Mir glanced down below her, but as yet could not see her pupil pursuing her up the tree. Depending on what Demi did, Mir would either continue higher into the tree, or double back though the higher branches and surprise her student at a different point. Maybe she’d draw Demi up into the trees… that could be interesting. This and other ideas buzzed through the Singapura’s head as she climbed up higher into the thinner branches and out into the open air.

Carefully absorbing the clues and indicators around her, Demi had been silently trying to gauge her mentor's location and distance. Sharp bronze eyes caught the unnatural tremor of a tree's limbs up ahead, and the girl concluded to herself that that must have been Mirelle's location. Thinking quickly, the bobtail darted off the path and scaled a nearby tree. Safely in its branches, she took a moment to collect herself, calm her excited thoughts, and steady her breathing. Cautiously, she breathed through her mouth both to better detect Mir's scent and to keep from making a sound. Both eyes remained fixed on the tree she had seen move as she began making her way through the branches. Although she knew she wasn't high enough to meet her teacher, Demi continued to pick her way through the trees gingerly. She would ascend once she was closer and could more accurately discern her mentor's position. When she was only a few trees away, the younger female paused and scanned the limbs of her target carefully, grinning when she spotted the Singapura's form.

It didn't seem like she was spotted yet, so Demi moved up a little higher and began making her way through the remaining branches. Having failed to grab up any stones like Mir had, Demi realized she still had one projectile to rely on. Slowly, the bobtail slipped a paw into a pouch she had strapped to her thigh and withdrew a couple of small round objects. Poising herself between a couple of branches, the girl took aim; as they both were currently, it was blatantly clear that a surprise attack would be impossible unless it had a little assistance. In the next instant, she sent the small balls flying, both gleaming silver as they sailed through the patchy sunlight. As they hit the branches right below the older cat, a light jingle sounded before they erupted in a plume of pale pink smoke. Even as they left her hand, Demi was in motion, lunging swiftly from branch to branch to get into position. When the smoke bells burst open, she was just leaping into the tree her mentor occupied. Taking advantage of the created smokescreen, the girl sunk her claws into the bark and propelled herself upwards without hesitation. Her heart thundered in her ears as she scaled the tree and burst through the already thinning cloud, swinging a kick around to meet the Singapura. Adrenaline was flowing heavily through her veins, and though she bore her mentor no ill feelings, her face was hard and serious as she concentrated on putting every skill she had learned over the past months to good use right now. Every sense was heightened and sharp and ready to take in information; muscles held taught and body light to move suddenly if she needed to change to defense.
