 As soon as the flour enveloped them both, a fit of giggling burst out of her mouth. She knew exactly what was happening, and that she'd been the one to cause it, but that didn't make it any less amusing! It was like watching it snow, but being caught right in the middle of the blizzard, and she closed her eyes as every little bit of flour settled across everything. The counter, the cookbook, the floor, her entire body, Yuuki -- absolutely everything within reach was smothered in a blanket of fluffy white.
She giggled even more as a series of successive sounds of *thump!* crashed behind her, knowing full well that in the white-out there were apples dropping from the bowl and onto the floor.
But at least, the bowl was still in tact. And the rack of metal pots was still full of pots and that they all hadn't clanged down onto the floor.
"I'm okay!" she answered in a giggly squeak. "Are you?" Turning around very, VERY carefully, she peered at Yuuki. She had to blink the flour off her eyelids and what she saw.... brought forth another fit of laughter.
"Your poor fish are covered in flour!" came out in an exclamation before she could think about staying quiet. "Oh, Yuuki, you look ridiculous!" As if she didn't? "I'm sorry, but--.." She couldn't even speak anymore, laughter was bubbling up faster than words could.
And it was then.... that she heard, from far down the hallway...
"DOLCI!?? WHAT ON EARTH ARE YOU DOING AT THIS HOUR OF THE MORNING!?!"

 "I look ridiculous? Well isn't that the pot calling the kettle black." He smirked slightly, trying to gather his thoughts before making his next move, he didn't want to knock anything else over, that was the last thing they needed right now and then he heard the booming voice from nearby, it startled him a bit but then he started to laugh quietly.
"Oh, now you've done it." He ducked his head down to start picking the apples up in his mouth gently, setting them back down on the counter one by one, picking up the half empty bag of flour next, setting that down on the counter as well. "You can blame me if you want, that way you won't get in trouble."
He wouldn't of course either, once they were caught in the kitchen, Peophynnia would probably be taken by surprise and most likely forget why she even came into the kitchen to begin with when she found Yuuki in there, atleast until she saw the flour all over the floor.

"Okay," she admitted, in between giggling. "We both look ridiculous."
But Peophynnia was awake, and apparently angry, and that was a far more pressing matter. Dolci used her tail to swish-swish across the countertop, but while it cleaned the surface off.... the white powdered flittered down onto the floor instead.
Not working so well.
So Dolci had to think, and think fast at that! Looking around the kitchen quickly, she darted across the room, leaving a trail of white hoofprints in her wake. She grabbed the loaf of bread in her mouth, and then nudged at the small wooden cutting board with the slab of cheese on it. Peering at Yuuki expectantly, she hoped he'd take the hint and grab it.
Because.... as soon as she heard a series of angry hoof-stomps coming down the hall, both eyes went wide and she nodded towards the door. Promptly making a beeline for it and praying Yuuki would follow suit.
Why get caught when you can leave the scene of the crime?!

Yuuki did not have to be told twice, he picked up the cheese in his mouth carefully, staring at the apples and then toward Dolci, back to the apples, Dolci again, there were more apples in the field he thought and with that he was right behind her, trotting out the door quickly.
It was much harder holding the cheese in his mouth then it looked. Because of the texture, he was afraid he would bight the block in half any minute now and he really just wanted to eat it, but that would ruin the picnic and that was not exceptable.
It was going to be their first date?! Was it a date? Did she think it was a date? Now he was nervous, nervous because of the date and afraid because of Peophynnia who was no laughing matter when angry and even though he knew she wouldn't do anything to him, he still didn't want to risk it, so he ducked his head down to nudge Dolci from behind, speeding up their escape.

At the nudge to her backside, Dolci went darting faster. Her hold on the loaf of bread was tight and she lowered her head to move quickly, galloping over the grass and heading towards the lake -- and the seclusion it provided.
As soon as they were sufficiently out of eyesight from Peophynnia's house, she trotted over towards a small embankment of trees. They surrounded part of the water bank, making a nice shade from angry eyes while still open enough for the two of them to see the water.
Peering back over her shoulder at Yuuki, just to make sure he was following, she lead him over to stand underneath one of the trees. She hesitated for a moment, unsure if she should set the bread down in the grass or just start eating it as it sat in her mouth.... but... she couldn't talk with her mouth so full. And she was dying to!
Bending down, she tugged the piece of bread free from the loaf that had stayed in her mouth. She chewed it quickly and set the rest of the loaf gingerly on a clean patch of grass. Then after swallowing, she smiled slyly and peeked at Yuuki with an impish expression.
"Well that was fun." And a good way to perk one up in the early morning! It was late enough now that the sun was shining over the lake and everything was bright in the full light.
Taking a step back, she shook herself off, sending a shower of white powder down into the grass a few feet away. Most of it was gone, but she could hop in the water to rinse off soon enough.
"Are you okay?"

'I'm fine." Yuuki mumbled around the cheese, looking for a spot where he could set it down, they should've grabbed a few napkins while they were running for their lives.
Finally giving up, he trotted over to set the cheese down next to the bread, shaking his fur out as well, letting some of the flour glide down onto the grass. He still had a good amount though caked to his fur, it made him look gray and he didn't like it, he would rinse off in the lake soon enough though. "Peopphynnia is a little scary when she is angry. I don't know what was worse, her or the wolves."
He laughed quietly, ducking his head down to tear a small piece of bread away from the loaf, chewing on it absently before leaning over to take a bite of the cheese as well, his tail swishing back and forth, sending little clouds of flour into the air every now and then.

"She is scary," Dolci said in agreement. Peophynnia was usually so well-mannered and gentle, seeing her (or rather, hearing her) be angry was quite a shock indeed! "We'll have to apologize later." A small nod of her head. "Much, much, much later."
But not right now. It would be like willingly putting your head in a hungry lion's open mouth!
She watched Yuuki as he shook himself off and she smiled slowly. Again, she thought of snow falling as flour built into a small dust cloud around the darker pony's feet. It was caught in his pelt and through his mane, and the sight of swirling swishes of flour flying off his tail made her giggle.
"You and I always end up messy," she said lightly. "In dirt and now in flour." Pausing for a moment to poke at the ground with one of her hooves, she continued. "Maybe we're bad luck."

"You think so?" He smiled slightly, lifting his head to watch her. "We can be bad luck together then."
Kicking one of his fronts hooves against the ground absently, he took a few steps back before galloping toward the lake, hitting the water with a loud splash, sending it flying everywhere before he dropped down carefully in the shallow water, rolling onto his back to flail around and get all of the flour off of his pelt and out of his tail and mane.
The water was nice and cool, it felt good in contrast with the sun and the rocks on the bottom of the lake made great back scratchers, he'd sometimes wished that Seraphim had made him some kind of water horse because he could probably stay at the lake all day playing in the water, he didn't even know if a water horse existed, but if it did, he would envy it for sure.

Turning her head, Dolci watched as Yuuki went bolting right for the water. Those goldfish are definitely appropriate..
So he liked to swim.. and he really liked apples.. and he liked to pretend he was grumpy.
Even in the few days she'd been able to get to know Yuuki, she'd say she knew him pretty well. He was generally nice -- or at least, he was nice to her -- and he was very sweet. And, above all, he didn't shush her if she talked too much and actually listened.
If that didn't make him the most awesome pony in existence, she didn't know what would!
She stood there in the grass, just spying on him as he flipped and whirled in the water, thinking back to being stuck in that hole in the forest. How terrifying it had been to be chased down by a hungry pack of wolves. How Yuuki had all but laid himself on the line just to save her....
It made her chest lock up, and feel far too small for the swell of her heart, and shifted her weight on her hooves for a moment before moving.
Dolci trotted down to the edge of the water, jumping down into it to paddle over to where Yuuki was currently freeing himself of flour. And as soon as he popped up to the surface, she was right there, practically on top of him. Moving in to nuzzle at his wet neck and cooing at him in a small voice.
"We can be bad luck together, Yuuki. I'd like that. 'Cause I really like you."

Yuuki stopped in mid flail when he felt a nuzzle against the side of his neck and his ears perked up slightly while he listened to her talk.
He wasn't really sure what to say, he'd never felt anything like this before with any of the other ponies, he'd never felt anything like this before period. He felt like he could be himself around Dolci, she wasn't scared of him like the others were, she showed interest in the things he said and he liked being with her very much because he worried about her when she was gone and deep down even though he made it seem like he enjoyed being alone, he didn't.
So he took a deep breath in through his nose, rolling onto his side to nuzzle her back gently before mumbling. "I like you, too."

To be very honest, Yuuki's reaction made Dolci smile. Smile wide and smile happily and made her nuzzle at him that much more. If she'd been able to, she would've purred her happiness at him like a big, pink, hoofed cat -- but all she could really do was sigh contently and close her eyes.
"You do?" she answered quietly, nudging at him very gently just to wiggle through the water closer to him. Though, for a moment, she thought maybe he didn't understand what she meant. After all, it had seemed from the get-go that the two of them had taken to being very ... touchy with one another. Friendly nuzzling and touches, perhaps, but how she was pressing her cheek against the side of his strong neck was a little different this time.
So, to make sure he understood, she decided to make her statement very clear.
Sort of.
"I mean I like you, Yuuki. Not just as friends sort of liking."
Where had that come from? Dolci wasn't even sure herself. Maybe she'd felt that way the entire time and never really thought about it. Or maybe all it took was the tiniest little thing to make her realize what Yuuki meant to her, regardless of how long (or how short) of a time she'd known him.
Either way, though, it was true. She did like him, very much. And she held her breath as she waited for a response.

Yuuki pushed himself up a bit so that he was resting upright in the water, leaning into her for a moment before mumbling. "I like you, too. Very much."
There was a certain chemistry about them right from the very first meeting, as if she was fated to fall into that whole and he was fated to go and find her, whatever it was, he was glad for it. It was like a small nudge from destiny, without it, Yuuki probably would've never had the courage to go talk to Dolci on his own.
"I liked you from the first moment I laid eyes on you, stuck in that hole." He smiled wide, ducking his head down to splash some of the water at her with the tip of his nose.

When Dolci finally exhaled, it was long and slow and very heavy. It was a relieved sort of exhale, but an excited one too -- she wasn't sure whether she should just nod and be silently glad he hadn't rejected her or....
Splash around in the water, prancing like a giddy little pony.
Thankfully, she actually did neither. And instead, she let out a trill of hyper giggling and dipped her head to splash water back at him with her nose. "You do?" she repeated, but it wasn't a question she was expecting an answer to. She'd already gotten the answer she'd been fishing for!
"Yeah, that was so great," Dolci replied, while almost rolling her eyes. "Covered in mug and stuck in a stupid ditch. That's real appealing, isn't it?" But... maybe it was? Who knows..
Bending down further, she slipped under the water for a moment, shaking her head to dislodge the rest of the flour sticking to her mane. And then grinning evilly, she turned to swim up against Yuuki's flank. Leaning over, she nipped at his hip, cackled with glee, and turned right around to swim towards deeper waters.
"You're it!"

Yuuki blinked and watched as she swam away, smiling wide before pushing himself up to turn around and trot out of the water, shaking the water off of himself quickly before making his way to where the bread and cheese was resting in the grass.
"I can't play tag on an empty stomach!" He called out to her before ducking his head down to break off a piece of cheese, followed by a chunk of bread, chewing them together slowly. He'd figure they'd better eat before the ants decided to help themselves to the food and then they could continue the fun and game sin the water if Dolci wanted.
"You should come eat something, you didn't eat much today and as hyper as you are.. You probably worked up quite an appetite.[/]"

Huh. That didn't go so well, did it?
Dolci's nose wrinkled slightly and she frowned in disappointment. Who cares about food when there are games to play? It sort of felt like if she'd say an exuberant "Hello there!" to a pony ... only to have her greeting hang in the air and go completely ignored and unanswered. Didn't feel so hot and the sudden urge to romp through the water receded quickly.
"...okay," she answered lightly, followed by a short nod. And with that, she came trudging out of the water.
Hopping up onto the embankment, she shook herself relatively free of water before moving over to stand next to Yuuki. She peered down at the bread, and at the cheese, and shrugged slightly.
Well, food wasn't so bad, now that she thought of it, and after a moment of inward pouting, she bent down to mimic his actions -- taking a bite of cheese and a bite of bread and chewing quickly.
After swallowing, and murmuring a quiet "S'good!" as she licked her lips, she bent down to repeat the bites again. "I'm glad I thought to bring it with us!" she said with a wide smile.
