The Scripts of Strategy

PostPosted: Wed Jul 01, 2009 10:39 am

It seemed that the chaos had startled nearby wildlife. The rain of arrows was a particular disturbance, causing whatever wildlife there was to scatter. Straggling birds fled, fearing for their lives after recovering from the shock of Castello's awful screech.

A white feather descended. As it did, a spark from the shower brought the feather down as an arrow speared it into the earth.

Soren's eyes snapped open as energy throbbed enough to wake him. The goddess directed his eyes to Renault, wounded, and the immediate danger that would follow. With everyone in hiding the enemy was sure to take full advantage of the opening. Not having a moment to spare on contemplation, he glanced around for a way he might assist.

Soren could still barely move and he was still short of breath. He was disoriented, his limbs feeble, but he had been granted consciousness to further his purpose. Soren found the Elwind and Rexcalibur tome nearby that Fa had brought. He snuck his hand to the Elwind tome (it was designed to act with more agility and speed than Rexcalibur) and flipped the cover open with his fingers.

He settled his fingers, immediately structuring his thoughts in an organized network for the wind spirits to operate along. But this time he had a tome. He had an external power source. He didn't have to use his own body so much now...

There was another magic user. Soren took note of the dangerous display and summoned up a flurry of raging wind blades, momentarily shielding his allies from further enemy assault.

The tactician swore--these heroes were way more dangerous than he'd thought...! He ducked for cover, avoiding them all by some miracle, and stood, immediately impaling a generic morph that'd come up behind him.

And Domanova's brambles! A vine suddenly erupted and, while he narrowly avoided being trapped in it, Aidan received a nasty scrape on the shoulder. He stumbled backwards and looked around for a healer.

As the rain of arrows were falling, Isadora quickly moved Tuomas along the wall. The dirt was scraping against her left leg and her horse. Although arrows would fall on her, at least it would be few than hundreds. After all, like rain, not every drop would hit in the same place.

She had to find the elevation. It seemed that the sniper was on the higher ground, sending his arrows down. She had to find that sniper and take him down. It seemed like the only way to do so to get out of the raining arrows.

Ed peered out from her shelter and slowly advanced into the open.

Upon seeing Renault in danger, she shouted after him and darted forward. Of course, she was too far away and arrows from above were fast — the fall had probably ended by the time she reached him.

And then she saw a nearby archer dying (rather gruesomely) by some spell she'd never seen, and she stopped to assess what was going on while grabbing onto Renault's robes.
"Are you crazy? You coulda gotten ki — whaaaaa?"

The sight of wind magic in effect made her glance around again to see that Soren was conscious! Boy, she'd give him a lashing later! But for now... "Well it's about bloody time!"

Sighing, Ed darted out to the front, holding Aegis firmly and ready to dance.

Fa was shocked that Soren arose with such speed and activeness that it surprised her. Seeing as Soren was still a little woozy Fa remembered something Athos told her back in the desert, "Only use this when your loved ones need it the most. You can transfer some of your energy from your dragonstone into the person. Then they will instantly become better no matter the Ailment. Beware it doesnt last forever." Fa took her dragonstone in her left hand and placed her right on Sorens back and transferred some of it into Soren. As for the sudden loss of energy Fa fell to the ground on one knee and staggered back up next to the tree making sure to hide her wings from the Sniper.

Chickenwire grabbed Blossom tightly in his right arm, clutching her gently against his side as he held his shield to the opening of the alcove. They were safe here, for now at least. "Hush now," he murmured. "It's b'fine... jus' hol' still," he murmured, though he winced with every thunk of the arrows into the stone above them. When the noise stopped, however... he released Blossom and lunged out of the alcove into a roll, and as he stood up he whipped his arm out from behind his back and flung his shield straight at a Warrior morph as morphs began to appear out of the air-- presumably following their creator through the open Door.

The morph stood and stared at the sharp-edged shield lodged in his chest. Before his brain was able to make the connection that the body was dead, Chickenwire wrenched the shield out of its chest and swung his axe up, splitting his jaw with it, then turned and threw it at a halberdier, tearing out a significant chunk of his neck before it came back to the Hero's hand. "Bitchin'," he muttered.

As the Rain of arrows stopped John let loose with the one arrow he was aiming at Shento and shot a couple morphs heading for Renault in the back making them poof into air. "Boy this is gonna be even one heck of a fight." John said to himself as he climbed up a tree.

It seemed that things had changed from one disaster to another. As soon as the raining electric of arrows stopped, thanked to Soren, morphs suddenly appeared.

"You're in the way!" Isadora shouted as she drew out her sword and slashed the morph across the chest. Dealing with the morphs was a small matter to her. The biggest problem was to stop Mika and the Heroes. After all, they were more of a threat than the morphs did.

Leon recognized the power of the wind blades from before. It was that same Mage Knight, the one that had helped them before to rescue Isadora's group... using his wind to shield them. He was overjoyed at the idea of no longer having to hide. Now... who to target? The raven was crazy, the sage was dangerous, the sniper was deadly and the reaver was bloodthirsty. All dangerous targets. Who could he hit?

Thinking wasted his time! He needed to be fighting, not contemplating! And besides, how he wouldn't have to waste time on thinking. There were morphs to be cleaved. The knight smirked, raising his poleaxe with an almost sinister grin across his face and a killer intent that was borderlining on wicked. The weapon seemed sharper somehow... or maybe it was just his desire to rid his presence of them that was sharper. Either way... he rushed Anri forward, happily slicing a Sage's head off before they could even think about casting. With this killer intent... he rode towards Mika with a vengeance he never knew.

Their impact, though lacking the finesse he'd have preferred, managed to get the job done. The Raven's attack had stopped, and neither was dead. Victoria was perfectly fine and everything, it seemed, since she was in good enough shape to talk.

"Yes, I believe I'll be-" Arashe let out an annoyed groan as he took the Bishop by the shoulders and rolled a distance away, barely evading the shower of arrows. Without time to wait for an awkward outburst, he quickly stood up, pulling the woman to her feet as well. Oh, I never get a break in these blasted fights...

Renault's expression switched from seriousness to one of delight suddenly; look who had just rushed out to help him! "Ed!" he excalimed, taking a moment to beam at her. She had been getting stronger, he saw. This was good. And she was here anyway... hmm. Well, then, he may as well get into position. Those auras were morphs... a flood of them, to be sure. There would be plenty of fighting soon enough, and the Heroes would likely have to wait.

Instead, the saint stepped forward, moving up just behind Ed. One hand reached out to touch her shoulder gently, and his voice spoke. "I have your back. Don't falter, Ed. This will be difficult." Gray robes whipped softly around his figure as the wind picked up, just a bit. They were coming, he could feel in. Morphs...

"Hold!" he cried.

While he didn't care much for the girl, they were on the same side, and he was obligated to protect her. With a flick of the wrist, more Espinne-generated vines formed a wall near Mika. Some of the enemy's soldiers scampered back in retreat, and a few paladins found themselves no longer upon their startled horses.

Now content with the barrier he had put up, he took to casting Fimbulvetr at all who dared approach him, the ice from the spells chilling Soren's magical wind even more.

Victoria flinched as she purged the last arrow that came from the arrow rain. It seemed like the Heroes weren't going to hold back... so it wasn't time for her to hold back either. She put away the Purge for now, switching to the Aura.

She flashed it forward in front of Castello, not to hit him directly... but surely the spell's flash would impair his vision. "He won't know where he's going then... he won't be a problem..."

She then looked to Arashe in amazement. "Well, isn't this twice now? I'm gonna owe you a lot of healing after this, aren't I?" she winked and wondered if her plans worked.

Blossom's tense shoulders relaxed as Chickenwire tugged her close against him, seeing the shield before them. They couldn't be touched in here... as long as that roof over their heads wasn't shattered and fell on top of them. She closed her eyes just for a moment, lapsing into a tightly-wound silence in the wake of Chickenwire's reassurances. "Hush now. It's b'fine... jus' hol' still."

The little Hero stared at Chickenwire's shield, wincing under his muscled arm with every thud of an arrow on the alcove over their heads. They were all targeting them, and then those stones would fall, and she would be buried again, and everyone would be too busy to help her this time, she would stay buried and bleeding and hurt and...

And...

Wait, did it stop? It stopped!

Blossom heaved a breath of relief, scrambling up to her feet as Chickenwire reacted much quicker than she. Her hands scooped up her Silver Sword again, and she scanned the battlefield quickly. The arrows were done, so there was no source of panic on that front... Chickenwire tore through the Halberdier's neck with his axe as Blossom spotted a Sage morph in the near distance, casting. She ran at him immediately, seeing his soulless eyes focused on the red-headed Watchman; with one fell slash, the lighter sword sliced through the Sage's gut, protected only by his soft robes and tunic, and Blossom didn't even wait to see him fall. She just ran back to Chickenwire, sliding into place and deflecting an arrow that was aimed for his lower back. "Where are all these extra men coming from? Mika's not creating them here on the battlefield, is she?" she asked. Blossom lunged forward and sliced through an approaching Swordmaster before moving back again. The sword as light, strong, sharp... very different to the heavy might of her usual weapon.

The arrow shower ended. They couldn't stay here forever, they'd have to charge!

"Come on," he said, and he and Amelia turned the corner. For a second, Rhys thought he might open up Purge and fire away at the still rather distant Heroes, but it seemed morphs were charging in first. Ah, good. He could put these to good use. He reached into his robes... and Nosferatu appeared, good as new by Hammerne.

Swordmasters were in front, and boy, were they close! The nearest one was just running straight at Rhys, sharp sword in hand. But he wasn't fast enough to catch Rhys before Nosferatu went off, the quintessence leaving his body and entering Rhys'. The euphoric sensation returned, but Rhys controlled himself this time--he couldn't get caught up in the urges for more like he had last time. Then Sue had been around to clean up his mistake, but this time, he couldn't afford to leave the burden on others.
