"Damage to me? Not likely," Tanto said as he cracked his neck. Then he shook his head and said to Yarah, "Thank you, but I will be fine without an examination. You two did not deal enough damage to me to warrant anything beyond internal healing."

He turned to Xane next. "I am sorry that you did not get to fight me. Perhaps next time, you and I can have a private match."

"Don't feel too bad about it," Sai commented, walking into the training room wearing basketball shorts and no shirt. "He's got a few millennia up on the oldest of us." He smiled. "I mean, hell, I bet he could even put up a fight against the Cap'n.' I feel better bringing all of you into battle now, though, I'll say. Ridley - and Corhir - I'm glad that project turned out better in your generation than the first." His expression darkened a little. "Anyway. Just wanted to let you know what I thought of your session and that we're leaving in the near future. Last of the supplies are being brought on board presently."

He nodded. "Well if you don't want to deal with fixing those cuts and scrapes, let me know."

Yarah raised an eyebrow at Tanto. "Even if you say there is no damage, I'm going to want to check. I've a very bad habit when it comes to double checking." He rested a hand on Tanto's arm.

"Well you've got a bit of bruising. Lot of muscle tension but I imagine it's just from the work out. Your nerve endings have calmed down now so no lingering pain..." He let go and rested his hand on his hip. "You seem perfectly fine. Lucky you."

Tanto froze completely as Yarah laid a hand on him. Did this little Demon actually think it could touch him? He stared out in disbelief as Yarah spoke, though his opaque sunglasses meant that the younger Demon wouldn't see his expression from his eyes.

Yarah was lucky that Tanto was so pleased with the results of their exercise. Tanto had literally obliterated much stronger warriors for doing the same thing Yarah did now.

Before Tanto could grow angry, however, a terminal near the door let out a soft beeping. Sai strode over to it, brow wrinkling slightly as he read the text on the screen.

"Looks like it's time for us to ship out," he said, sighing. "Right in the mid of th'Indian Ocean; coordinates have been delivered to the helmsman of the Ley Runner. Everyone have everything?" After they all signaled the affirmative, Sai hit a button on the screen and within a few seconds, the ship was slowly rumbling to life.

"I recommend you get to your rooms and relax," he said. "After a match that intense, you'll want to recuperate. Should have a few hours before we get there. I'll wake you all before we arrive." So they went back to their rooms to rest.

---

Several hours later. Yarah and Xane had conversed briefly before going to their own rooms and falling asleep. Ridley and Tanto parted ways with a silent nod and a grunt, respectively; Ridley went to commune with Corhir for a while before resting and Tanto disappearing into the depths of the ship. There was a beeping over the comm and all of them were roused.

When they arrived on the bridge, almost all simultaneously, Sai said, "We're a few minutes out. Everyone, prepare to disembark."

"Welcome to th' freakshow, boys an' girls," Anton Liu Jiar greeted them. "We thought we were gonna have to question you on the location of the precise anomaly, but once we hit about a mile back, all our mana sensors went off their charts; we paused to recalibrate them, if you felt the stop earlier. Now we have a solid lock on the mana flows around here, we're riding a mana flow to the probable source. Helicosto, bring up the screens."

"On it," the Demon-Minor replied. His spines twitched as the tech-genius demon adjusted the mana flows of the ship to activate the screens, and- "Oh my..."

The scan showed, in simulated light, skeletons walking the ocean floor, pacing aimlessly; a few fresher-looking corpses had bioluminescent fish gnawing on them as they strode over the sea floor, kicking up clouds with every step. Rising from the ocean floor was a spire, at least a dozen stories tall, covered in barnacles.

"Take us in closer," the captain commanded, bumping his arm against the ceiling of the bridge as he ran a hand through his hair in bewilderment at the discovery.

Yarah blinked and let out a low whistle. "Wasn't expecting that." He wasn't sure WHAT to expect but this wasn't on his list of possible things to expect. "Hmm. I wonder what is keeping them animated."

"How close are we to the leyline?" Tanto rumbled. "That might have something to do with it." Otherwise they were dealing with a necromancer most powerful.

Yarah blinked as he waited for something to happen an answer.

"There shouldn't be a leyline here, we're in the middle of the Indian Ocean. The Himalayan Line is the closest- oh, what the-...." All eyes went forward again. The massive spire was even larger than they'd initially thought, extending deep into a trench in the ocean floor.

"Well, I figure there's always one way to enter: bring us to the top of it and blow it open," Anton Liu Jiar commanded. As they approached the ideal range to crack it open, however, the peak of the spire split into thirds and peeled open, revealing a clearly-magical dry dock, seemingly unhindered by the water pressure, with a great staircase leading town into the spire. Anton held an intercom button. "Time to explore, fellows. Any volunteers?".

Tanto grunted and slung his sword over his back. "I am ready. Let us go."

Yarah popped his neck and smirked. "Count me in."

After EDWARD RIDLEY MOST DEFINITELY ALSO VOLUNTEERED, they left the ship. Upon exiting, they saw a figure in a black chair, clothed in a black cloak, plucking the strings of a black lute. It was playing a sad, slow, soft melody; the tension before each pluck seemed to build until they could barely stand it, until the next note brought release from the wait.

Tanto made no pause as he strode towards the lutist. "Why are you wearing so much black?" Tanto said, blunt as ever. "And for what do you wait?"

In all his time existing as a creature that walked the Spheres, he had never met a being dressed all in black and playing an instrument that had been a good thing for him.

The being turned towards him. A bleached, fanged skull within tilted sideways, then the whole thing - lute, chairs, cloak - exploded into a thick black smoke and flew down the staircase.

"Ah, someone's here! Finally!" The voice was androgynous and seemed to come from the very air around them. "I've been waiting for ages for someone to come investigate here! Listen, I think something has gone wrong with the storage system for the Necromantic Cypher. I'm pretty sure it's been zombifying the crews of ships going over this area, but there's been some damage to this place's systems over the millennia and I haven't been able to isolate the exact source of the problem. I need you to go to the bottom level and remove the Cypher's null-code, since it's clearly not working, then disconnect it from this entire facility. After that... well, you have a Demon-Major with you, I see, you'll know what to do."

A pause, then hesitantly: "Of course, if it were that easy I wouldn't have needed to wait for help. There's an undead creature in here... I call it the Devourer, for reasons I'm sure you could imagine. I think it may control the undead the Cypher has accidentally raised. If you're going to get to the bottom, you're going to have to get past everything it's done to this facility to try to stop you."
