Decided to reread Freefall and Strange Flesh, two novels based on the FFG game Android. Like them both, though Freefall telegraphs Chekhov's Skill a bit too much.

Started properly reading my many Rogue Trader splat books for a change, which I more or less gave up on after the group broke up and emigrated to the corners of the globe.
Just done with Battlefleet Koronus, an excellent read on how the Imperial Navy works, plus what kinds of opponents one might face in the Expanse.
Right now I'm on the Navis Primer, regarding Navigators, Astropaths and other psychic entities. Bit light on fluff sadly.

You're missing out on some amazing stuff, like this gem that leaves you breathless: Quote: The smoke from the reeking fire of trash that he had built for himself next to the cardboard box that had become his home in an alleyway near the home he had once had filled his nostrils, mouth, and eyes.

I'd comment about not reading fan fiction, but 50 Shades is scraping beyond the bottom of the barrel and giving a horribly wrong example on how a relationship with a dom-sub should work. "Lol, I got raped by Grey, but that's okay, I needed it!"
I've given Shades of Grey another try and well.. Pretentious foreword aside, it misses world building, it misses context, it misses explanations. I'm missing a general background here, because right now all I've read about is futuristic IRA doing something and a short story about a guy moving to the city, losing his house because of his neighbour and killing him because of it, all the while making a BOLD statement about being someone. There's a lot of name dropping going on, but without an explanation as to where it is really taking place, it's all nothing to me.
I'm neither seeing how this is inspired by 40k or how this is cyberpunk, because aside from the odd reference to fancy-schmancy stuff, it's just not there.
