The Scripts of Strategy

PostPosted: Fri Jun 19, 2009 12:38 pm

Soren was finally on his feet again, looking as blank as ever. He took the time to view his surroundings as though this were a stroll in the park. Morphs were collapsing over each other, unyielding to the defenders as they marched on and forward. He pondered how the defenders could spare so much energy. He had expected the group to be fleeing by now.

Allies in the rear seemed to be holding up fairly well on their own. He also noted that the atmosphere had endowed a sort of bloodthirsty effect upon the supposedly purer units — the bishop who healed him was fiercely eliminating units in the sky while Rhys was cackling not too far away. Soren couldn't help but think such behavior was, ahem, a little familiar.

Soren tilted his head back as pegasus knights descended upon them. That was a simple situation to resolve. He snapped his fingers and swept his arm out.

"Ekazoo."

And then Wind spirits had formed up around the pegasi riders, their tails creating a network of air channeling about, almost giggling as they whipped and slashed into the pegasi to cause some lethal turbulence for them and their riders.

Sue noticed how Rhys had ignored the magic users. They were still a threat to the immobile and defenseless! How could he be so careless as to let them slip by? She fired arrows furiously, wondering what kind of insanity had possessed him. Did the nomad trooper see him.... laughing? Normally he wasn't this way. I have bigger things to worry about... I'll ask him about his craziness later.

Leon too was getting 'high' off the feeling of victory! He'd been defeated in the arena, shamed in the battle for his beloved Eyris by the number of morphs, and how it was his turn to dish out the pain! That's what this Killer Lance was designed to do... sharpened to strike and hurt where it counted. He almost felt like shouting "how do you like it?!", but he knew these opponents had no emotions, so it wouldn't faze them. Instead, the Lieutenant fought on, joyfully.

Sister Victoria

Victoria was quick to dodge the spears of the pegasi that were coming down to skewer her at any moment. Switching tomes quick, she found her Divine and called upon its immense power, that which was supposed to pierce through enemy resistance and watched as it fried one of the fliers out of the sky. The bishop had to be fast now, or she'd lose those whom were defenseless...

She didn't want that, more than anything. It was good that Rhys and the cavalry had arrived. Thank the Goddess and Saint I don't have to fight alone.

Loch prided his Heron heritage in his ability to take attacks with ease. He was quickly recovering from the new attack, and he was about to withdraw his Thoron tome for some serious damage when--

*WHAM*

He must have blacked out for a few seconds, because he woke up with his wings crumpled under him. And some distance off, a man was beating the ground in despair.

"Dear Saint Ashera..." Loch muttered, dragging himself to his feet and stretching his wings, "what the hell is wrong with you?" A hand grasped his Mend staff (and he could already feel the healing energy seep into him as he held it), and he trudged over to the man. He tapped the staff to the man a little harder than was probably necessary, the glow from the crystal shining all the same. "Watch where you're pointing that thing!"

Lance turned his face upwards. The guy he had shot earlier was walking towards him. And coming right up behind him was a morph with his weapon drawn and ready to slash at the winged person.

"Watch out!" he yelled, as he used his hands to rise up a bit as he slided both his legs under himself, and then brought his feet into each of the winged one's legs. Sliding his legs out seperate ways, the man went down in a split, as the morph's slash missed just barely. Lance bent his arms and shoved himself upwards, as he then quickly jabbed the morph right in the open space under his helmet with three quick punches, then went and knocked it to the side with a quick roundhouse kick.

"What are you doing?! Check your surroundings more, or you'll get killed!" he yelled back at the man, who he had just made experience the pain of getting his legs split aside separate ways very quickly.

Oh, how pathetic. Evelyn couldn't handle a little group such as this by herself? She even had that dog... thing, with her. The damned thing had quite nearly punched holes in Misura's armor at various times, so why couldn't it just rip the head off of a few of these people? Sometimes she didn't quite understand it. And now she needed help. Even with these blasted creations of magic helping them, she STILL needed assistance? For the love of all that was holy, there was absolutely no way that the girl should be doing this badly, even for a magic-user. Ugh. Well, at least it would give the General a chance to get out and battle. She had been craving it ever since she'd known that these were their enemies. Good, bad? Petty morality. That didn't matter. These were enemies, and this was now a war. In a war, you killed your enemies. And this was what she would do. Senseless emotion had no place on the battlefield.

Jyoti moved alongside her, atop Victory. Though Misura wore armor, she was used to it; she moved nearly as fast as she would without it on. The great black, runed sword rested on her shoulder like a toy; though the destructive force it wielded was nothing to laugh at. At the moment, four of the ten runes glowed; it would not be certain to others what this meant, but it would become apparent soon enough. "Jyoti." Misura's voice sounded suddenly. "You'll be careful in this battle." This wasn't a question; it was a statement of fact. "If you get into danger, I'll bring you out personally. Understand?" She looked up at the girl, and a slight smile showed from under the helm. "I can't have you being hurt."

And then, the sound of battle. The smell of blood. They were getting closer; Misura could feel it. She wasn't overly fond of the Beastmistress, personally; dark magic disturbed the General even more than did normal magic. But she was an ally, and Jyoti seemed to like her at times, so she would have Misura's help. The sword came down; at five feet long, it was nearly as tall as Misura herself, just under five and a half. But, even so, one hand grasped the great blade, holding it without a hint of fatigue. "Come, Jyoti," she said to her companion. "Now we will fight."

Fire Dragon made his way through the forest transformed. He hadn't wanted to fight in a forested area for fear of starting a forest fire, but given the potential seriousness of the situation, it was an afterthought - and potentially a necessary sacrifice. Before long, he saw... morphs making their way through the forest... tearing it apart to get through. If he was approaching the morphs before any allies, it would mean that the morphs were attacking from the rear. Which means he was attacking them from the rear - a double rear attack. A bit ahead of them, he could make out... Rhys! He hadn't seen Rhys at all since the Anniversary even. The Bishop looked to be fending off the morphs by himself. He couldn't communicate with the bishop transformed - but if Rhys saw him approach, he'd be sure to recognize FD and hopefully explain what was going on. He unleased a Flametongue to eliminate all that stood between him and the holy man as he made his way over - the morphs themselves had eliminated the forested area between them so that he need not worry about starting a forest fire.

"Drain the life from the undeserving, Nosferatu!"

...And another rider falls! By now, the tide of morphs was thinning out, and... some of them had turned around, their eyes gazing elsewhere. ...The heck? Um, hello? Bishop on the warpath here? And come to think of it, why weren't those magic users attacking him?

He paused his "feeding frenzy" to take a look around. At last he had a moment to take a look around. What were they waiting for?

Arrows. A few had missed, but the magic users had concentrated their efforts on...

"Ack! Sue!"

Yeah, the influx of so much power had heightened his battle lust. In turn, it had made him treat the magic users as though they didn't exist. They realized they couldn't hurt Rhys, so they went after people they COULD, in fact, hurt.

He stuffed Nosferatu back into his robes, running over and picking up the fallen Shine once again. He had more than enough quintessence running through him now; might as well save the spell for later. Besides, he felt a bit ashamed that he'd let them go by without a fight. If Sue hadn't been there to catch them...!

He chanced a look off to his left, where the morphs' gaze had been drawn, and felt a surge of confidence. Fire Dragon had also appeared! Sure, part of the vegetation was now on fire and could spread, but his appearance meant these morphs were done for.

"Thanks, you guys," he said, the battle lust calming down. "There were so many of them around, and Isadora suddenly left for Evelyn... Isadora went off that way," he added, pointing toward the large thicket.

Nils followed closely behind the Fire Dragon, hand clutched tightly around his flute. There wasn't much else he could do, really; if he had gone back to where the people were while he was out hunting, then he would have been completely restless, his mind consumed with worry. It was for the best that he followed.

Again, though, he had an issue. The rings that could give the songs he played the strength or defensive boosts in battle were with Ninian. He could raise spirits with his music and that was it. Kind of useless sometimes, but eh, it's better than nothing.

... Would it be a bad idea to play? I mean, the morphs already know where we are, but still... He decided not to play yet, keeping the flute clenched tightly. He gave a small nod of greeting to Rhys but did nothing else.

Jyoti rode in silence, a hand on Antaram and Heal. She made sure not to move too fast, so that her companion wouldn't fall too far behind. Sure, Misura was fast for one with armor, but it would have been rather rude to leave her behind in the dust after asking her for her help. Besides, the valkyrie wasn't very keen on the whole idea of abandoning Misura for any reason. So, she ended up riding slower than she would on any other occasion. Her eyes were focused forward, hand tightening around the staff. Was Evelyn alright?

"Jyoti. You'll be careful in this battle. If you get into danger, I'll bring you out personally. Understand? I can't have you being hurt."

A smile came to her face. "Alright, but... you be careful as well, alright?" Jyoti raised her arm slightly, tapping the glass orb of Heal against her own shoulder. In the back of her mind, she thought about how much more convenient it would have been if she had taken the time to go and grab that Physic she saw before in that room... Ah, well, it's too late now. She responded to her thoughts, opening to a page in Antaram with writing.

"Come, Jyoti. Now we will fight."

Jyoti gave a firm nod to Misura. "Right." Her eyes focused down on the tome, reading the text inside with ease. Her voice was a quiet whisper, barely heard even by herself. Slowly but surely, the tome itself began to glow a pure white, not completely obvious but still there.

Spell almost complete, she urged Victory forward a bit. Antaram shared some similarities with Evelyn's tome, Chizakura, but also had some key differences. In order for Antaram to be effective, she had to actually be able to see a target. From the position Jyoti was in, she could hear people but not completely see them.

Leon lowered his Killer Lance, again looking around and coming out of the trance that was the joy of his battle. From what he saw, none of his comrades were any more harmed than they were before. The knight sighed in relief. "They be safe, Anri..." he told the horse.

The steed in turn whinnied cheerfully, sharing his master's joy of an approaching victory. Neither of them had an idea of the others yet to come.

Sue all the while noticed FD finally arrive, with Nils and his music. "Ah, Hikaru!" she called to her fellow host. "You're here... oh... thank Father Sky and Mother Earth you're here... we were fighting hard but... still... so tired. So very tired..."

Misura saw fit to respond to Jyoti's query briefly before they crested the hill. "Of course. I won't be harmed." Then they both stood at the crest of the hill, looking down upon the battle. These were the pathetic children who called themselves warriors. Mages. One archer, on a horse. One lanceman. And... that seemed to be all. The slight smile under Misura's helm slowly spread into a bit of a sadistic grin. Good. Very good. Whatever type of mage they were - light, dark, anima - it didn't matter. They would all die. Wholly and absolutely. Every one of them that faced her. The archer had a chance at sliding an arrow through the few gaps in her armor. And the lanceman... ha. Though he would seem to have the advantage, she would snap that weapon of his like the twig it was.

Misura started her advance; it didn't take long. She could move at nearly the speed of a normal foot unit. She began to laugh, first quietly to herself, then growing louder until it possibly even reached the battlefield. The sound of her armor certainly would; that much metal would make anything turn and look. Her sword, along with her usual helm, would certainly cause anyone to think twice.

"Now, now." Her voice called out, mocking. "You can't possibly tell me you've had enough yet, little ones. Those creatures are nothing but the appetizer." Her gaze swept the battlefield once again. Ah, a dragon... from her position, the few trees left on the hillside had blocked this creature from view. How pleasant, she might have some sort of challenge after all. Vezra had never been tested against a magic such as the one dragons certainly used. Now, which to target first? She chose quickly. The bishop. He was in the best shape, and he would certainly be dangerous, for along with attacking he would be able to easily heal his allies. To take him out would be a blow to those gathered. And in any case, she had plenty of knowledge of Light magic from training with Jyoti. "You. Don't move, and your death will be quick and painless, understand?" She moved towards Rhys, quite a fearsome sight in the great armor.

"A... ge... general..." Sue stared forward at the ever advancing Misura, not expecting her to find the group at all. She'd though they had the upper hand! The advantage! The nomad trooper thought for once, they'd had victory over these so-called Heroes. They couldn't keep running, or they'd not only be a laughing stock, they'd be out of a home. They couldn't live in the wilderness forever, for her comrades weren't all nomads like she was. Drawing out the sacred bow Myulgre, Sue commanded Andre to swiftly go in front of the Host Club's Lord. "Don't you dare lay a finger on him." She said fiercely. "Or this bow... will pierce that armor and your heart."

Indeed, it was a general! However, Leon saw no reason for Sue to be secretly quivering, although 'secret' is a loose term as he could see it plain as day. He wasn't going to run, he wasn't going to hide... and nor was his confidence of his opponent before him anything that would have scared him. Leon, in an unusual calmness before the "storm" of battle instead put away the Killer Lance and again took up his Regal Poleaxe, designed to battle armored knights and Cavalry. "A sacred weapon an' armor splitter." the Lieutenant now smirked, riding alongside Sue on Anri slowly. "I think yer a bit out number'd n' outmatched, eh?"
