After a long days of travel, Valis decided to simply offer prayers before retiring. First to the glory of Sol Invictus, as is only right, and then to the local deities as way of introduction. Some sticks of simple, but exotic to this region, incense. Some simple prayer sutras burned in the flame of a candle of pure beeswax. The proper forms of prayer are said, following the echo's of words spoken in lives past. After a final moment to take in the stillness of the chamber he's in, Valis snuffs out the candle and on memory alone settles himself onto the bedding provided. Soon, a light sleep takes him.

((Unless there is a disturbance, and little is needed for that since the years of living on the streets of Nexus have left him a light sleeper, Valis plans on sleeping till the morning. He's willing to wait, for now at least, till then to learn more details on what the people here would wish of him.))

Sasha was vaguely intrigued by the conversation she'd overheard, but she was looking for other exits, not spying, and so carried straight on into the depths of the building.
Finding none, she headed back to her cell, and headed straight to sleep, curled up on the floor beside her bed, blanket covering her, but little else.

Ahkil, finding the sleeping conditions to be quite acceptable, removes his shoes and cloak, sets down his bag, props up his staff and lies on the bed. As he awaits slumber he quietly meditates on the day.

Turning around to get into a better listening spot during the conversation, Anya almost ran smack into Sasha's foot, which would have alerted her to her presence. Edging back into the deeper shadows at the base of the wall, she wondered for a moment just how she could have missed Sasha at all. The next moment, she already had her answer, the guards hadn't seen her either, hadn't stopped her since they didn't even speak or move from their sitting position. Surely they would have said SOMETHING had an Exalt come towards them, but they didn't since she was using some type of power that made her...what...invisible to mortals? Just plain hard to see? Anya noted that down mentally for later, at least having some glimpse of what Sasha was able to do.

After a few seconds of watching Sasha to make sure she wasn't spotted, Anya listened in to the remainder of the conversation, not really learning much of any practical use. Even Sasha seemed uninterested in what was said and moved on a bit further before coming back and returning towards the Exalt quarters. Anya herself was getting bored again and since the whole darn place didn't seem to have anything else she could easily peek at, a mouse looking at maps and reports wasn't a subtle thing after all, she might as well make her way back to her room before she was spotted.

She was long gone by the time the door to the officer's room opened and was easily making it past the guards, still dutifully playing their game and ignoring their surroundings...no wonder they got overrun, such alert guards are sure to catch nothing lurking about! Now back in the common room, Anya looked around. The lady was still fast asleep, Sasha had already returned to her room it seemed and the remaining rooms were silent and dark. Anya breathed a sigh of relief, glad the cat hadn't been around to see mousy Anya slip back behind her curtain. Now that she was safely in her room, Anya reverted back to her natural human form, stretching once again to work her human muscles.

With a shake of her head, Anya roughly combed her blond hair back and made sure everything was back to normal. Satisfied that all was in order after a quick glance, Anya lay down on top of the bed and decided to take a nap to pass the time, knowing she would be informed more thoroughly of the situation tomorrow, with everyone else...

The Next Morning

Morning comes, though no light filters down into the cavern. A respectful attendant comes around shortly after dawn, and leads the guests into the main room, where a low table has been set with breakfast. The meal is over quickly, though, for Hidden Jasper and Colonel Tetsun are ready to get down to business.

Hidden Jasper starts off. "Our most pressing goal for the past year and a half has been to rescue our beloved Queen Sahula. As the heart of our nation, and the most visible symbol of our national sovereignty, she has been kept as a hostage to cow us into submission and to keep our Linowan allies from making any determined attempts to help us."

At this point, the Colonel takes over. "We activated Resistance cells in the capitol, and sent some of our best infiltrators in to determine how to free her. Unfortunately, all our intelligence-gathering revealed that we would not be able to do so with our current numbers and equipment. With your aid, though, we now have a chance to succeed."

She unrolls a large map onto the table, and Jasper helps to anchor its corners. "This," she says, "is Carnelian Peak, former capitol of Rokan-Jin." The map displays a city, surprisingly large for a Threshold settlement, and set partway up the side of a mountain. Large portions of the map have been scratched over with black ink. "These shaded parts are the portion of the city that was destroyed during the siege. The Bull had his Sorcerers raze much of it when our troops managed to hold back the Icewalkers on the south-eastern slope. Some of the rubble has been cleared, but the whole area is still very much a mess."

"Over here," she points to a large structure, "is where the Queen is being held. It used to be the local garrison post, but the invaders have restructured it into a formidable prison, as well as the bureaucratic seat of their occupation. We're talking earthworks around the perimeter, magical wards on every entrance, God-blooded officers in charge of patrols… you get the idea. Even with all of you helping, any rescue attempt would be incredibly difficult. Which is why we came up with plans to make matters easier. In particular, two pressing matters have come up that you could solve far more easily than we could."

"First off, Aparna, one of the royal ministers, went over to the Bull's side during the siege of the city. By doing so, she has managed to maintain and even improve her position, and serves as an assistant director for the invaders' logistics operation. Despite the appearance of treason, Aparna might still be swayed to our cause, and would be an invaluable ally. Perhaps some of you might convince her."

"Second, we've just made contact with Raemonn, the last surviving royal Sorcerer. The Haltans were tipped off to his identity, and currently have him under house arrest while they investigate. He's mortal, and an old man at that, so its only a matter of time before Haltan reinforcements arrive and cart him off to the prison or kill him on the spot. We need to get him out of there now, as his countermagic could help to breach the wards around the prison."

Iron Soul listens to the presentation and carefully examines the map that has been laid out, focusing specifically upon the prison. “That is a pretty tough nut to crack,” he says more to himself than to anyone specifically. Smiling to himself, “though not impossible.”

Looking up from the map and to everyone gathered. “I think it might be best if we try and get both the Queen and the Royal sorcerer, at the same time. Get one out and we will be chased by the Hatlans, while we try and get the other. “As for this Aparna it is a risk going to him to start as we risk tipping our hand, but if we go later we might increase the difficulty to bring him over to our side hmmmm.....”

Sasha doesn't look at the map for more than a moment, well aware that she cannot actually understand anything on it, and not entirely willing to let anyone actually know this.

"I think that we need to rescue Raemonn first, or else the Haltans may execute him in order to stop him joining us. Aparna isn't an obvious person for us to find, so trying to persuade him to join us isn't quite as critical."
PostPosted: Sun Jun 07, 2009 9:42 pm

"I agree. Raemonn appears to be in the most immediate danger, though charging in is a strategy doomed to fail. Are there any among us whose talents are suited for a discreet extraction?" Akhil continues immediately after asking the question, "Unfortunately this is not my area of expertise, however I am very willing to orchestrate a diversion." Now he folds his hands and waits for an answer.

Iron Soul looks between Akhil and Sasha. "Well I have done a few covert ops in my time. I am no expert but better than most mortals that we should encounter in any infiltration of the prison or private residence. Though if we are going to be putting priorities on who to get out first I am of the mind that getting her majesty out should be given priority over a royal sorcerer. While he can provide a great many resources, she can give these people hope and improve moral."

Anya peeks over at the map between the taller Exalts, listening to what they say before adding her own opinion.

"Um...as was said, the sorcerer can help remove magical wards and such...and unless one of you Solars can manage a magical feat that does the same, the Queen isn't going anywhere without his aid. In any case, the old man seems fated to die unless help comes soon, while converting the other isn't as "pressing" even if he could provide assistance in saving the former. They will likely tighten security around the queen when they find out we broke the old sorcerer out, so we'll have to make things pretty quick..." Anya says, punctuated with a shrug of her cloaked shoulders.

Moving around the table to find another place to look at it, she resumes.

"As for infiltration, I can get in places pretty well without being seen, but then again it depends on where I need to get in, I don't do any flashy trick or pass through walls afterall. If there aren't any guards inside and it's not a sealed box, I can get in and have the old man out the front door after a while if need be. I doubt he has more than a few guards watching outside his house?" Anya said, looking at the Colonel and Jasper before resuming.

"On the other hand, he's a LOT harder to hide once I get him out, and he's not likely to run anywhere fast, so I'd have to get someone a bit more...um...fit, to carry him swiftly away!" she adds in a rather cheerful and perky tone.

"Are any of our number true sorcerers?" Valis asks. "If so, the task of freeing the Queen is far more easily accomplished. If not, then I believe that we should look at first freeing the court magician, and then going after the queen. I do agree that perhaps a distraction is in order though. We need to pull the eyes of the Bull and his forces away from where the Queen is long enough to extract her."

"What are available for assets around Raemonn's prison?" Valis says, turning to Hidden Jasper. "Do we know the temperament of the community? Do we have anyone on the inside there? What do the local gods and elementals think of this change in mortal power?"
PostPosted: Wed Jun 10, 2009 11:31 pm

"You are all correct that master Raemonn is the most pressing target, but I think you misunderstand the situation regarding Minister Aparna." Hidden Jasper spreads his hands upon the table. "As the bureaucratic headquarters for the region, the fortress is also the logistical center. Aparna frequently visits the facility. If she were convinced to help us, she could theoretically walk you all in through the front doors, thus ensuring a great deal of surprise when rescuing the Queen. And considering that you'll find much more than a few God-bloods once you get inside, surprise is absolutely necessary."

"As for worrying about reprisals, its not as much of an issue," Colonel Tetsun explains, "Assuming no one knows you're anything more than mortal Resistance members, they won't tighten the security by any large amount. By the time we have Raemonn, they'll have found his records and see he doesn't know any offensive spells. They'll send out the usual raids, some of our people will die, but that will be the end of it."

Despite the casual way she says it, her eyes tighten at the prospect of her countrymen dying.

"And if we can do our jobs quickly, then get Queen Sahula out, the Haltans will be too busy holding back the Linowans to hunt us all down."

Iron Soul listens to the conversation and follows it intently, after a bit of thought he speaks again. "If I am to understand you correctly we are to be as covert as possible and allow them to think that we are just other mortal members of the resistance?" His tone inflects a bit of displeasure in this line of actions.

"I have never been good at being anything but what I am. I can't lie, at least not convincingly. Even if I could get a lie past these people the moment they saw Glorious Strength of Heaven," he points at his sword, " even in its scabbard, they would know that something is up. If this is the case I believe that my role is best suited from the shadows."

Before Iron Soul speaks Akhil begins to reveal his talents at sorcery. However, as Iron Soul has been quiet for so long he is taken off guard by the sudden talkativeness. Akhil yields the floor though as he listens it takes all of his training to prevent his jaw from hitting the floor.

"Wait. You actually mean to carry that sword in broad daylight? THERE? In the capital city?"

Akhil feels guilty for the intemperate nature of his next words but justified in his analysis. He simply cannot stop himself from blurting out what is on his mind, especially after last night's interaction.

"Can you no sooner part with that blade as you could your own manhood? Or has one taken the place of the other? Surely our new allies can provide all of us with less conspicuous gear."

Akhil manages to restrain himself from adding 'And a prosthetic for you.'

A giggle formed easily on Anya's lips...followed by an odd twitch of her face as she tried to stop from bursting out laughing, hiding behind her hand as if to cover a yawn. She turned aside as the other's attention was drawn to both male Solars, taking extra care to get a semblance of a straight face going before turning back. She knew that just LOOKING at Iron Soul was going to cause her to burst out laughing if she looked right then and there, she had little in the way of restraint and she was liable to laugh in his face, so she decided to move away slightly, hand in front of her mouth as if thinking, while she cooled down.

She had enough sense to know that bursting out laughing in the face of her new ally was very poor show of respect, so she took a few moments to get the giggles out of her system silently before turning back to the others, facing Akhil first.

"I am certain that your suggestion for less... conspicuous armaments... might be in order as a temporary replacement to less normal weapons." she said with a smile before turning towards Iron Soul.

"As for you..." Anya said with a wider smile, still suppressing her urge to laugh. "You don't need to talk if you can avoid it, just be the strong silent type. And your weapon will be safe even if you do not carry it, it has to weight more than a man can carry anyway am I right? At least it LOOKS like it weighs as much as an anvil."

Turning back to face the rest of the group, Anya resumes with her usual lighthearted manner.

"I am certain some means of coordinating this so that the escape of the old man supports the talks with the minister, as a sort of 'see what we can get done?' thing. I'm not much into planning, so I'll just throw the idea out." she adds with a slight shrug of her cloaked shoulders.
