"Aww, Faolan, you're no fun," she replied with a pout. Nalani cocked her head thoughtfully for a moment at her brother's inquiry before deciding. "How about tag?" she suggested, her tail wagging playfully behind her.
"Beauty sleep?" Natsuhi said to her eldest with a chuckle. "My dear, you are still but a filly. You hardly need to worry about that." Sure, she knew it was just an excuse not to play, but the mare couldn't help but to tease her daughter occasionally- she really needed to lighten up a bit. Speaking of lightening up... She glanced over at her mate with a smile, watching him keep a stern watch. He was always so paranoid about watching out for predators, for which the mare was quite grateful. Still, it wouldn't hurt for him to relax once in a while as well. "Brajan, would you like a break? I can keep watch for a bit you know."

Faolan sent her sister a short snort, unamused snort before her attention turned back to her mother, her expression falling into a pout. "What?! I gotta do it before it's too late. I mean, I chip a hoof, I break my horn, then what?" Her eyes widened, a mild panic gripping her at the thought.
It took the stallion a moment to realize he'd been adressed. And even then, he turned questioning eyes on his mate. "Hmm? I'm sorry? A... a break? No, I'm quite alright." Turning, he came nearer his family. "I'm sorry. I'm just worried. The coming of summer, more predators around. I'm alright, Natsu.."

Wyatt couldn't help but to roll his eyes at Faolan this time. "Faolan, no real guy is gonna wanna girl who is afraid of doing anything from a fear of a chipped hoof." He certainly wouldn't want a friend who sat around all day trying to be pretty. What use where they? He turned back to Nalani and nodded. "Tag is fun." Then he heard his father. Predators?! He gave Nalani a nervous glance. "Papa? Do you want me to help look out instead?" He wanted to play, but he took after his father in the fact that he would worry over the family more than his own desires.

Faolan lifted her nose, snitting softly. "Who needs guys, Wyatt?" But his attention had already turned from her. Her nose wrinkled as she opened her mouth and pushed herself up, preparing for a hard n** on the flank. But inches from him, she caught her father's disapproving look and shrank back, sitting on her haunches, an innocent smile on her face.
Clearing his throat, Brajan turned to their son. "It's alright, Wyatt. You've plenty of time to worry about those things in a few years." Crossing the distance, he nuzzled his son affectionately. "But it's good of you to want to help."

"Horns and hooves grow back, dear," Natsuhi replied calmly, attempting to dispel her daughter's worries. She smiled faintly at Wyatt's offer to help keep an eye out for predators. He was truly his father's son.
"Predators?" the young filly questioned, cocking her head at the two males. "Do we taste good or something?" She shrugged off the question shortly after asking at and lightly touched her nose to her brother's side before darting off. "You're it!"

Wyatt half turned to answer Faolan, but then Brajan caught his attention. His little tail flicked happily that his father seemed pleased, until Nalani tagged him. "I wasn't ready!" He yelped as he darted after his sister, growling playfully.

"Yeah, but it's never the same." Sighing, Faolan shook her mane. Anyway, it was warm out. Let the other two sweat it out. They'd probably pay for it later anyway.
To some, Brajan mused quietly to himself. How to explain to the foals that safety was an illusion? He sighed softly. No, no real way to. And no reason to. They were so young. Too young yet to know the crueler things in the world.

Natsuhi stepped over to her mates sigh and gave him a reassuring nuzzle. "Let's switch for a little while, ne? I can watch out for predators while you watch the kids. I'm sure they'd love to spend more time with you." The mare smiled softly and gave him a gentle lick on the cheek, trying to cheer him up. Certainly the risk of predator attack was higher when there were foals around, but at the same time the kids would only be young once. It was a tough balance measuring out protection and quality time.
Nalani laughed merrily as her brother chased after her. It was always so much fun to run around and play. The little filly leapt lithely through the grasses, working to out-maneuver her brother. "Catch me if you can~!"

With a resigned sigh, Brajan nodded slowly. "Alright, alright. I'll keep an eye on them. But don't stray far, yourself." He frowned, having little doubt that Natsuhi could take care of herself. Still, it made him terribly nervous leaving his mate as their first line of defense.
A small head shot up, glowing eyes following her mother. Faolan readied herself for a fast move, set to trail behind her mother- as always- should the mare leave.

Wyatt shrieked happily as he chased after his sister. Tag was always a fun time. Plus, it was an unconcious way to build up strength to become a fast adult. "Keep away if you can!" He taunted up to Nalani, lowering his head slightly for speed, though careful to not dip too far. Last time, he had toppled face first. That had been unpleasant...

She gave her mate a reassuring nuzzle. "Don't worry, dear. Not too many predators would dare to attack a 'ghost' mare." Natsuhi chuckled a bit to herself, still finding the notion quite humorous. Catching her daughter's gaze, she shook her head at the young filly. "Stay here with your father and your siblings, alright?" she said, lowering her head to give Faolan a small nuzzle as well before trotting off to do patrol. It would be difficult to keep a good look-out if she had to watch over her eldest at the same time.
Nalani let out a small 'eep' as she noticed her brother catching up to her, and made a sharp turn back toward their father and sister. Perhaps she could slip him up on the turns...

Faolan uttered a soft noise of discontent and glanced back at her father. He turned to watch the others. Fixing her gaze on her mother, she took a few steps forward, flicking her tail as she watched pensively. She had to fight the urge to follow, and while she managed to keep in one spot, she seemed to refuse to sit.
Watching the children with the same focus he'd been keeping watch, the stallion nodded to his mate. That was true, but a lone Kirin was frequently too tempting a meal for some. Especially this time of year.

As Wyatt tried to turn with his sister, one of his feet slid out from beneath him. Luckily, his three other legs kept him up. 'I did it!' He thought proudly to himself, wondering if his father had seen him in his little victory. He hardly noticed that they had turned back and were running at top speed at their family.

Ok, so that plan didn't work out as well as she had hoped for. Hmm, I'll have to think of a new strategy... Nalani didn't realize how close she was getting to her sister until she was practically on top of the filly. To late to turn and change directions, she gave a desperate attempt to leap over Faolan so as not to crash into her. Well, she made it over, but lost her footing on an awkward landed and went tumbling for a few feet from the momentum. Itai~... I'm gunna be feeling this tomorrow for sure.

Brajan watched the game with mild interest. They were growing so much. Had grown. A long way to go, still, he supposed. They would be grown one day, and that gave him pause. It had been hard to think of himself as a parent. And now it was hard to see them as adults.
Faolan snorted indignantly as her sister neared. "Just whadd'ya think you're doin-?!" Cut short, she uttered a short bleat. Head tucked beneath her hooves, she tensed to wait for an impact that never happened. An eye cracked to a slit as she glanced around.
"Nalani!" The stallion moved quickly on his younger daughter, scanning her for signs of injury. "Are you alright?"
