I just got back from my first ever seder.

I am slightly drunk. I'll update more later, like, tomorrow. When I'm sober.

I'm glad that 1. You finally get into alcohol! and 2. We both had our first seder this year.

I'm sober now!

I was able to drink 'cause I mixed the wine with the fruit juice that was provided for the kids and Muslims.

It was really fun. I got seated next to the group of Muslim exchanged students! I got some good wine, some delicious food, and some awesome conversation. The Rabbi and his wife were EXTREMELY friendly. Lol. Especially when they figured out just how nervous I was. There was about 70 people at the seder. All crammed into a small room. Massive turnout, apparently.

It was just... the most fun I've had in a while, even if I was nervous as hell throughout most of it.

They had me donate $5 but sent me home with a $3 box of matzah. I came out pretty well from it.

Where in the world did they find a box of kosher l'Pesach matzah for only $3? The average price for Passover matzah in my store is $18; for Passover shmurah matzah it's around $27; and the gluten-free oat matzah will run around $42 a box. The cheapest matzah I saw was $8 a box. I want to know where this community seder was held and where they shopped for it!

Matzah in Price Chopper and Hannaford is $2.89 a box out here.

Yeah.. It's about 3 bucks here too... I wonder why it's so much more expensive by you?
PostPosted: Tue Apr 14, 2009 4:51 am

Huh. And you're sure it's Passover matzah, and not just regular matzah? Because regular matzah, sure, $2.50 to $4 a box depending on the store and whether there's a sale on, but for Passover?

I live in England and our Pesach Matzah is only 99p, but everywhere is doing Buy One Get One Free on them, so technically they are 49/50p.

(Another Brit! Yay!)
Same! I dunno what's going on here...
They should be cheaper than normal bread, anyway, because basically you're not doing as much to make it.

Your british too? That's good, I was starting to think I was the only British Jew here, lol. I don't see why the price is so much in America.
PostPosted: Tue Apr 14, 2009 5:52 am

Doesn't America grow like 20% of the West's crops? Or maybe it's the world... Anyway, America grows loads of crops. So technically, it should be cheaper?

(Where ya from? Up Norf? Or down in Londun? Perhaps you're from the West Country! Or, if we're lucky, we might've gotten a Welshie or a Scotsman/(woman)!)

Nah, not welsh, or scottish. Not gonna say anywhere in particular. And yes woman. I hate that stuff where people are used to saying postMAN and policeMAN. Can't they just say PERSON. Lol.

What part are you from?

I dunno, maybe, what sort of shops are you guys getting them from? Specialist Kosher shops or normal supermarket Kosher sections?
