He chuckled at that, it was good to see Celeborn still had a sense of humour. The Ranch had been here for so long now, he couldn't help but wonder what stories people had by now.

"It's good to know you're doing well," he replied with a grin, "Has anything else changed?"

After all things had been tense before with the larger hunting parties because of possible danger.

"Really... oh yea, Cindy said she had empathy the last time I was here, but who's Ecthelion?"

Celeborn smiled softly and nodded. "Aragost ..." He took a deep breath. "Aragost is ..."

"Retired," Haradhel cut in. "No more hunts, no more guard duty, no more nothing. He wanted to do more, but we won't let him. I don't know how much you know about the morgawr, but he destroyed it ... and it nearly destroyed him. I've never heard of anyone surviving what he went through."

Celeborn nodded. "Yes. Precisely."

Timaeus grinned. "Right, you won't have met him before. He's Adanedhel and Rose's kid, about ... what, five years old by now, I think. Or nearly. Cute and strong and fast, I think he's got something of a wild streak. How he finds his way here alone I'll never know, but it's amazing Rose hasn't panicked yet."

"I see...." Donovan murmured, "I've only a heard a bit about it, but it is good to know that he's back."

Even if he was retired, that didn't matter so much. From his understanding, or rather what he managed to piece together from accidental clues (Elrohir) and his tip lipped daughter Aragost deserved a good retirement. Besides, the girls weren't even sure if he was coming back after the fight, which is bothered them both greatly.

Besides Aragost was sort of responsible to why Miyu was going to be helping out here.

"Are you sure she hasn't panicked yet?" Lin was very much surprised, both Adanedhel and Rose had been kidnapped by slavers at one point or another, you'd think they would be a bit nervous, "Well then, I'm going to have to visit them."

Haradhel nodded. "You should see him before you go," she said softly. "I'm sure he would appreciate that." Despite how he had always been ... cold and unsettling ... he was an elven being in need of comfort during his times of weakness, after all.

Timaeus shrugged. "I don't see Rose much, so I can't say," he admitted, "but I also have to admit that I haven't seen Ecthelion walking around with a tender backside either. Either that or he just hides it well."

He chuckled softly.

"I'll do that," Donovan replied in turn.

Yes that would be for the best to visit him, even though he didn't know Aragost all that well, he knew how much he had affected Haven, and the kids living here.

Lin giggled at that, "Feng would love him though, the mer twins will probably visit a lot."

For no other reason than the fact this was Adan they were talking about, the twins were closest to him.

Haradhel nodded. "I'll head to the house and start getting supplies ready then," she said softly, "and let Elrohir know you're here. I'll be expecting you about lunch time again."

And she turned and headed off down the hallway, and a moment later the light of her fire vanished around the corner and down the stairs.

Timaeus chuckled. "Well, I'm sure they'll love him," he grinned. "He's a cute little guy. Very energetic."

He stretched then, and rose to his feet once more. "So, you going with on the hunt this time?" he grinned at Lin. "I imagine there won't be much else for you to do here anymore, now that Elros is gone. And we've two new fighters I'm sure you'd enjoy getting to know."

He paused. "Well ... Caranthir, anyways."

Donovan watched for a moment before nodded at Celeborn, "I'll see you later then."

He decided that maybe he would go see Aragost now, and then well... it depends on who he would run into after that... well actually he had to go tell Lin about her coming. Even though she probably half suspected she would go anyways.

"Triton told me a bit about them," Lin smiled wrly, "But I also think he was leaving a few things out. As for the hunt I don't know, Vincent, my mentor has backed me up on going, since he's taekn care of most of my training, but Dad is still deciding. I think he's torn between his practical self that says yes and that nagging thing called fatherhood."

Celeborn smiled at Donovan and nodded his head slightly. "Until later," he agreed; and he disappeared into his quarters, closing the door behind him.

Timaeus chuckled at Lin. "Well, a good father knows when it's time to let his children take into practice the things they've been training for. You've been training your whole life, what's it for if you're never allowed to do anything with it? And you're a grown woman now." He shrugged. "Even Elrohir let Arwen go a few times."

Lin laughed at that, she could only imagine what had gone through Elrohir's mind the few times Arwen went because Arwen was well.... Arwen. She grinned.

"Good point, but I also think Dad is adjusting to the fact he's only had me for four years," she looked thoughtful, "I was told when he came into the family, everyone else was nearly grown."

Well that and her mother thought it was an ever so brilliant idea to have her Dad involved by making him a firm part in her life.

"But I'm sure I'll be going, Dad's practical side tends to win out."

Donovan walked down to the end of the hall, he wasn't good at small talk, but he could at least try. Hell, he sucked at small talk, there were days he was looking forward to handing the Ranch to someone who could do better than him.

"With how many times you go visiting places without your father," Timaeus mused, "has it been four years for him? Or just three? Or two? I mean, he's never come here without you, but I do know that you go to the Southland without him ..."

He shrugged. "Still, I think it would be good for you to come with on a hunt, and realize what it's really all about."

Aragost was enjoying his time with Miyu, listening to her tales of life in her own world, when he suddenly felt Donovan's presence just on the other side of his door. Without waiting for a knock, he called out, "Come in."

He didn't bother raising his cowl to hide his scarred and blackened face. He knew he now looked little different than the very creature that he had destroyed, but Donovan was Donovan. First off, he wouldn't be afraid - startled, perhaps, but not afraid - and secondly, he deserved to know the full reason why Aragost would not be able to help out with the ranch any longer.

This was true and Lin had taken a few long trips without her father. Besides he ages enough as it was.... she took a sip of her drink.

"Well... we'll see," Lin murmured, "Like I said, I'm probably going..."

The idea made her nervous, because she knew what it would entail. It wasn't like she hadn't gotten half a dozen warnings about how difficult a path she decided to chose in life, and she was still her mother's daughter.

She tried to think what was the closest she had ever come to death and decided it was that one time when Aragost caught two slavers trying to pass the Ranch. Granted she never saw it (thank goddesses for stalling), and they were covered by Aragost's cloak. Though the blood soaked into the snow.

Whatever Donovan was expecting when he opened the door, seeing Aragost pretty much black (and it wasn't a way to describe him as dark skinned) along with the scars threw him off. He blinked before entering the room, retirement was a pretty good term at this point and very well deserved.

"Just came in to say hello," he explained.

Which really was the reason why he was here, it wasn't like he needed to check up on Miyu.

Timaeus watched Lin carefully. He could see some of her thoughts on her face, and he could see that she was feeling uneasy.

"Are you sure you're ready for this?" he asked her softly. "It's one thing to travel and be prepared for danger, but this ... this is going out with the intention of taking lives."

Aragost nodded in Donovan's general direction, and then the corners of his lips turned up in a slight smile.

"You can rest assured," he murmured, "the ranch is no longer in any danger. This world is safe once again."

At least, the Four Lands were ... as long as people kept a wary eye on their children.

Lin looked thoughtful, she tilted her head slightly and thought about it. It was true... they were two different things but...

"I don't think, you could ever be ready for something like that, but..."

How could she explain it? How could she explain how Gaia was in many ways safer? That if she ever was forced into that position it would probably be worse?

"As horrible as it's going to sound, I would rather it be now, than later through a forced situation where it can't be helped, and there wouldn't be anyone I could really lean on later," Lin rubbed a callous absently, "I mean... it happened to my family. That's why Haven exists.. it was supposed to be a simple journey and they unexpectedly got attacked by a small army of slavers. I know the chances of it is rare, but it scares me more to have to deal with the aftermath alone, than to deal with it among others who have already been there."

She sighed and took a drink.

"Besides, I want to be here, in the end if or when my travels end this is where I will be."

A normal life in Gaia didn't suit her and she wasn't going to get married any time soon.

Donovan had to smile at that, always down to business it seems. That was good though, Lin was getting nervy after her visit to the Southland.

"That is good to know," Donovan replied softly.

Timaeus nodded and smiled warmly at Lin. "And whatever happens, I'm sure you'll be welcome wherever you choose to stay," he told her softly. "And if you need someone ... after the trip, or whatever ... I'm here for you."

Just in case she needed someone her own age rather than everyone else who was so much older.

Aragost could hear Donovan's smile, and he himself smiled in response, bowing his head slightly.

"And if you are going to see Lin before I do," he added softly, "you may tell her ... that her friends ... Sirs Valdemar and Aranel ... are safe, and entirely unharmed."

Physically, at least.

Lin smiled at that, "Thank you Timaeus."

It was odd in a way, she probably knew Timaeus better now than she did in the whole they were growing up (though this was her fault for running around with Adan in her childhood).

"So..." she murmured changing the subject, "What can you tell me about Caranthir and Aerin, Triton mentioned a bit... but he kind of I had a feeling left a few things out."

To be polite or thought it wasn't necessary, she couldn't tell.

"I'll tell her that," Donovan promised, "She'll be happy."

And without a doubt try to arrange a trip to the Southland, between here, the Eastland and the Southland... Donovan sometimes felt she lived here.
