That brat? Calla shook her head as finally she was able to get on a few layers without them immediately bleeding through, You’re such a nice person Alister. Sarcasm was thick as she wiped her blade on the grass and replaced it and the forceps to they’re hidden pockets. Pocketing the bullet she brushed herself off and made to stand up. Alright you, we need to get you to the Infirmary so I can get that properly cleaned and closed up. She sighed as she stretched herself out to pop various joints. The bullet was out, now she just needed to stop the bleeding and he’d be fine. Yes it was bad, but she had seen worse in her time, some Recruits just got careless and came in with strange injuries. They always had a different story but Calla had no doubt it was Nightwing or Adrian inflicting them. Granted she had always been prejudiced against the Drill Sergeant, men and children should not be left alone together.
Finally Calla glanced around her surroundings, glad to see that with the weather threatening as it was they were mostly alone. That made everything quite easier. “Twilight dear.” Calla smiled as she saw the wolf come over, “Would you be so kind as to help me get things thing to the Infirmary? I don’t trust him to walk.” Calla only hope the wolf would forgive her.

Ah, but what would you do if I didn’t? WoodWhisp smirked as he yawned and pulled himself up after her. And here he had been looking forward to a nice little nap, Calla just had to finish up didn’t she. Ah well, he was a master of patience, and soon he would be able to see Twilight at his leisure. He just had to wait, transfers like this almost never got turned down. He had no particular attachments to New Eve, the only thing he was sad to leave were his hiding places, it was always such work to find new ones.

"But of course I am." Sarcasm for sarcasm. At least it was better than focusing on his growing light headness and increasing lack of blood. "Besides Ana earned that title." Eying the circling black wolf he reached out with his good arm to grab the scruff of her neck as she passed close and paused. "I am not a thing and I can walk thank you very much." he muttered irritably pulling himself to his feet and regretting the action instantly. Staying still for a moment as he steadied himself and willed the ground to stop swaying, Alister gave a huff as Twilight side stepped and crouched to force him onto her back. If it weren't for the fact that he knew he was likely to collapse and that the wolf would possibly drag him straight to the infirmary if that happened he would have refused the rather pushy offer.

"I'd likely die of boredom." Giving a slight flick of her tail Twilight snapped her jaws at first Alister and then Calla once, a clear show that she was anything but pleased with either of them. Feeling Alister's fingers tighten in her fur she resisted the urge to snap at him again, though that urge was only intensified when she felt him sway slightly. Damn stubborn man, huffing she side stepped bumping the human lightly before crouching and eying him darkly. It was either he got on willingly or she would drag him to the infirmary...either one worked for her really.

Calla resisted the urge to laugh as he nearly fell down. “Y’know, I’m not the kind of person to say I told you so…” Calla chuckled, moving out of the way of Twilight’s jaws as the wolf snapped, “But I told you so.” Sing song and sarcastic but Calla never took her eyes away from Twilight. It was clear the wolf still wasn’t happy, but on the plus side she wasn’t flat out trying to kill Calla. That was progress, hopefully one day she would be able to win back the Wolf’s trust. Probably not one day soon, but eventually would be nice, give her something to look forward to. Calla brushed herself off and retrieved her guns, bowing to Twilight as she passed the wolf, “You’re help is greatly appreciated.” Tucking the broken holster under her arm and putting the other gun away she turned for the infirmary.
Ana eh? Such a pretty name.” Calla smiled to herself, she would rather have liked to meet the girl, or any of Alister’s family for that matter, out of curiosity.

Precisely.
WoodWhisp nodded as he padded after her, Almost makes putting up with Calla worth it eh? He chuckled as she snapped at Calla. Shaking his head as his rider collected her stuff. WoodWhisp was glad few people were about, it would be rather difficult to explain a scene like this to anyone. He was sure once Calla got him to the Infirmary she would come up with some elaborate lie to place all the blame on him. That would be just like her after all, and not the first time she’d done it. What was he going to do with her.

Shooting a near acid glare at Calla, Alister settled himself flat against Twilight's back and sighed. His arm had gone numb, whether that was a good thing or a bad thing he wasn't sure. Sighing again, he considered sitting up before deciding against it. "Anastasia Delarose, the brat queen." He muttered with a snort and shifted slightly to make himself more comfortable on the wolf's back as she started to move. "To be honest...I think the two of you could have lived together." Another shift to settle his forehead lightly on Twilight's back.

"Almost." Chuckling softly as the woman bowed to her Twilight's tail flicked slowly as she began the slow trek to the infirmary. Temptation she demanded that she kick Alister off, but she'd be nice to him. For now anyway. Her revenge would come later.

Calla was sure that statement was supposed to be an insult towards her, but she didn’t particularly care.
That nice of a girl eh?” She chuckled, she just couldn’t imagine someone like that being related to Alister. In reality she had a hard time of imagining Alister having a family. Granted she had a hard time imagining anyone having a family, it was such a foreign concept to her. Someone who loved you no matter what, someone who would take care of you, someone you could always go home to. The concept of that existing completely eluded her. And here was Alister, rejecting all that. Was he really so stupid? Calla glanced up at the clouds, wondering maybe if all families were like that.
She wouldn’t be, no she couldn’t let that be. Her child would not feel that sense of loss she felt or the hatred Alister seemed to harbor, she would do everything to prevent that.

Almost? WoodWhisp said, mock-offended,She is sorry y’know. WoodWhisp felt the need to point out, still felt the need to defend his rider. She just doesn’t know what else to do. WoodWhisp glanced over at Calla and shook his head a bit, the girl was back about her own thoughts. But she was paying more attention than he originally thought she was, as he was quick to realize.
‘Would you not share my personal thoughts with the world kthanks.’
WoodWhisp just snorted at her, he would have to deal with her later.

"Nice and insistent." And stubborn, among other things... Alister's voice trailed off as he directed his gaze elsewhere. Perhaps this had not been the safest route to take as far as conversations went. Letting out a slow breath he closed his eyes as he sought to push the thoughts and memories back. Ana was dead. He'd known it was going to happen for years, he'd come near to being forced to accept that fact before he'd joined the academy when the girl had almost bled to death. Everyone had been certain Ana wouldn't survive the week, the girl had done more than just survive the week, she'd survived for eleven more years until a simple case of pneumonia had killed her.

The thought seemed laughable really. After nearly bleeding out, one would have never thought that something as simple as that could kill her. That was probably the reason why he was still in disbelief about the whole ordeal. Stubborn Ana, bratty Ana, dead all because she decided she'd wanted to follow him through the academy and ignore every wish and whim of the family. Though, Ana's stubbornness wasn't the one thing to blame, it was the family really. If they hadn't attempted to baby the girl, then she wouldn't or at least wouldn't have been that driven to prove herself to them all.

Giving a soft purring growling, Twilight merely snorted skirting the corner of the building as she moved closer to the infirmary. Her being sorry doesn't mean I can fully forgive her, and you know that. Huffing slightly at the other wolf, Twilight shifted her gaze skyward before scenting the air lightly. The rain would come soon...and when it did at least it would match the general mood of everyone about.

A slight huff sounded from the black wolf as she shook her head. Calla didn't trust Alister, after all he'd done, it was understandable but the woman didn't know the half of it. Ears flicking back at the thought she swallowed down a growl. True Alister liked his secrets and most of those secrets were better off not being voiced to the public but at the very least, for the life of her, Twilight couldn't understand why the humans couldn't work it out peacefully.

Calla chuckled, indeed Ana sounded just like her type of person, it blew her mind that someone like that was related to Alister.
A strong woman knows when to stand her ground.” Calla nodded sharply, a strong woman never gave in to a man she stood her ground a taught him his place. A glance at Alister caused Calla to sigh to herself, this particular man would be rather difficult to teach where he stood. While Calla did not particularly look forward to the task she had no choice in this particular situation. What was done was done though, she had already applied to transfer, there was nothing more she could do about it now but make sure he stayed alive long enough to be of use to her. This in mind she moved within range of Twilight so she could get a look at her makeshift bandage and make sure it was still holding up well enough.
What happened to her?” Calla found herself asking, curiosity winning over, “If you don’t mind my asking.” Calla tacked on last minute, realizing that question did seem rather rude. She wasn’t sure why she care if he thought it was rude or not, but she did and that was all there was to it. Even though part of her still longed for him to bleed, part of her lay in the back of her brain whispering of accidents and blood. She would resist for now. One chance, that was all, he would get once chance to prove himself useful and worthy of being alive.

I know, I know. WoodWhisp sighed a bit, he realized it wouldn’t be that easy for Twilight to forgive his rider, but he could hope. Maybe one day he could convince the two to get along again. WoodWhisp followed Twilight’s gaze instinctively, wondering what she could be staring at. Rain clouds, dark and ominous. WoodWhisp shuddered slightly and put forth the effort to block off some part of his mind from the distracted Calla.
It had been dark that night to. That night that Calla lost everything. A storm had been threatening her at that point and she had lost everything. Could it mean something now? The dark clouds overhead threatening them with a storm, and a bad one at that. Could it signify another loss maybe. WoodWhisp shook the thought from him, such omens meant nothing, just superstition. Plenty of storms had happened in the past ten years, probably many twice as bad as this one. But none quite like this, none on the same day as something as life changing as this.

"A strong woman knows when to stand her ground and when to retreat. A stubborn woman knows the first but not the last." Wincing slightly as pain flared in his shoulder briefly, he shot a glare at Calla. Poking and prodding, poking and prodding...always asking questions that didn't need to be asked. Normally had it been any other member of his family he wouldn't have been so bothered by answering, after all as far as he was concerned they weren't even worthy of his pity. Ana was a completely different story. Maybe he had gotten overly attached to the girl... "She died of pneumonia last winter." There was an easily detectable slip of bitterness and the man gave a slight growl shifting on the wolf's back to steady himself. "She joined the academy because she wanted to prove that she didn't need to be babied, that she could survive without that god forsaken family."

It needs to rain. A soft muttered observation as the wolf's tail flicked lazily. The rain would do everyone some good, maybe...maybe it wouldn't. Still there was a certain taste of...sorrow hanging in the air and she didn't like it. Not in the least, the mere scent of sorrow brought back memories that were best left buried. Another rumble of thunder dragged her from her dark thoughts and Twilight looked up again not for the first time cursing the taunting sky.

No Ali, it’s just that smart women don’t back down from you.” Calla pointed out with a smirk, glad to see he was still capable of being sarcastic. The wound hadn’t done enough damage to deter him from that. As much as she would never admit it, she was slightly worried about him. Only slightly though, the rest of her still chanted for his death. But she couldn’t help breathing a sigh of relief at the same time, it had been hard to assess the damage in this gloomy light, she wasn’t really sure how severe the wound was. But the bullet was out and the bleeding seemed to be slowing down at least a bit. That was good progress.
Calla had detected a reluctance in him before, but the surge of bitter hatred that spiked over her threw her off her stride. It wasn’t that it was particularly strong, it was that he had been relatively nonchalant it seemed before that. The sudden change jammed up her thought process.
You blame them.” Calla whispered, watching him closely as he shifted. She wanted to tell him to stop, that it would only encourage the bleeding, but somehow now didn’t feel like the time, “That’s why you hate them, isn’t it?” It wasn’t really a question, the answer was right there in his words, but she said it anyway. This was a part of Alister she had never seen, and she wanted to find out more.

No. The response was automatic, We need it gone. This storm doesn’t smell calm. he inhaled the air about him deeply and then sighed. Indeed things did not smell right, he wasn’t sure if it was the humans or the weather, but something didn’t smell right. WoodWhisp glanced at his rider, she was diving and prying into things she didn’t need to be. He agreed that she had the right to know something about the father of her child, but this was not the place to start. She was only going to cause herself more trouble of that he was sure. He could only hope now that they would still be able to end the day on a civil note at least. WoodWhisp wasn’t sure he could handle much more chaos today.

If Alister had heard Calla's first words, he gave no indication of it. There were other things on his mind that easily squashed whatever reply he had for her. Her next words however didn't escape his notice and he settled his narrowed gaze on her, contemplating whether or not to even answer. He didn't need to answer her really, the stiffening of his entire body was more than enough of an indication that Calla had finally hit a fairly sore spot. A sore spot that he had no intention of considering or giving into.

His...distaste for his family had only increased when he'd found out the real reason why Ana had joined the academy, and that little well had finally bubbled over when the girl had died. Though to say that was the only reason he cared so little for his family would be a lie, even if only a partial one. Coming to a final decision he dragged his gaze away. There was no need for words as far as he was concerned. The answer was there, the woman only had to look for them.

The only way for the storm to leave is for it to rain and rage. There was another delicate sniff from Twilight before she continued, Though I do agree...this storm is anything but calm to put it frankly...its unsettling. Tossing her head lightly she sighed and flexed her claws as she walked. She wasn't so sure it was simply the storm anymore. Yes the dark feel of it had made her edgy earlier but now, now there was something more mixed in with the stormy air. A peculiar taste that she couldn't put a name to. Something wasn't right, and she wasn't sure if it was the storm, the humans or both, but a little nagging part of her brain was beginning to tug toward the latter. A slight glance over her shoulder at her rider and she gave another soft sigh.

Calla words had struck home, she could feel it. She was at least partly right, she could tell from the look he gave her. This conversation was certainly going in a direction he didn’t like. Calla knew she should back off, but her curiosity demanded she push on. These were things she had never seen in Alister before, a past like this, these were not the things Calla was used to reading from Alister. The way she had seen him, cold and isolated, the thought that he could actually care for anybody like this was surprising. He had been closer to Ana than he had ever been with anyone else, she could tell that. And the thought made her smile actually, there was something else there that she hadn’t seen before and was only getting a glimpse of now. If she kept going, maybe she would get to see more.
She was following you.” Calla whispered as he looked away, she was beginning to understand. He had been attached to Ana, and he had lost her. He never wanted to let that happen again, he never wanted to feel that again. And in a way she envied him. She had never gotten to have a relationship like that, she had never had a chance to get close to anyone. It had always been a work relationship for her, nothing personal, a little fun here and there. It was better to have and lose, than to never have, but Alister was making her feel slightly less certain about that.
And at the same time she had to wonder, would he be like this to his own child?
Or would he even be willing to be a father?

WoodWhisp nodded his agreement reluctantly. Whatever this storm was bringing he was too exhausted to face it. Sleepless nights were building up, nights of trying to talk Calla down even though he knew it was futile. He hadn’t want to bring her to Twilight in her original state, her original plan to slay him immediately. He had had some success at least, she had paused and given Alister a chance to talk. The sacrifice was worth it but he didn’t know how much more he could face before he collapsed right now. A heavy weight was settling it seemed, there was more to come before this day would be over.
Unsettling to put it the least. WoodWhisp’s tail twitch in anticipation as he constantly searched about, seeking the next spark to the wildfire. Though he knew it was right there, walking just on the other side of his beloved. Calla was certainly to be the bringer of chaos, the question was just what the spark was going to be and who would go first. He only hoped Alister had the wits about him to not anger her further today.

PostPosted: Sat Apr 04, 2009 8:47 pm

A slight twinge danced through him and Alister bit back a groan, burying his face in Twilight's fur he struggled to force back the memories. At first the twinge was the only indication that Calla's words had opened up something that was better left buried. The twinge however was soon followed by a slight tremor, it seemed to be unnoticeable at first but after a few moments the tremors grew worst. The woman was pushing in an attempt at seeing something...something that he'd buried ages ago. Ana had slipped under his defenses, had managed to worm her way into his life until he had had no choice but to accept her and even then he hadn't fully allowed her to delve completely into his soul. Ana had dragged him back to something close to human, but she hadn't fully succeeded.

Another series of tremors and he barely managed to steady himself. Would she have been able to drag him back to something decidedly human, if she had had the time? He didn't doubt it. Ana had been good to tearing apart his defenses, even if it took weeks the girl would achieve just what she wanted and then some. Still...Letting out a shuddering breath he didn't lift his head, he couldn't lift his head. The action would have taken too much effort, caused too much pain. That didn't prevent him from speaking though. "Just..stop..." His voice was wavering and muffled from his position.

Drawing in a careful breath to steady his voice Alister shifted a bit before lifting his head and pinning Calla with wavering mismatched eyes. His gaze was blank, eyes flickering from time to time but there was no other indication aside from the occasional shudder and his unsteady breathing that Alister was still alive. Mentally he'd retreated, withdrawing in an attempt to block out any further questions and resurfacing memories. Alister had withdrawn, and it was going to take a fair amount of work to draw him out of the little hole he'd taken to hiding in.

Twilight's tail flicked and her ears drifted backward once again. The storm would bring change, be it for better or for worst it would bring change and after the chaos that had ruled mere moments before she wasn't exactly sure she wanted to or would be able to deal with anything else at this point in time. The pair had almost killed each other, and now, a slight twitch danced through her and up her spine, Calla and her questions had driven Alister back and she dare not attempt to lure him back. It wouldn't work. Letting out a soft sigh Twilight lowered her head, glad the trek to the infirmary was drawing to a close. Five more minutes of walking if that much. Five more minutes until she could relax, if only slightly without the humans looming with their moods. He's retreated... A soft sigh escaped the black wolf and she cast a glance at WoodWhisp. She's poked too much and too far. It was a quiet observation, an admittedly tired observation that nearly drew another sigh from her.

Calla didn’t hear his words, muffled and unintelligible, and even if she had been able to understand him she probably wouldn’t have heard him, her mind focused on something else. She had struck something, unburied something she could safely assume no one had found in a long time. There was a heart buried under there, a heart her hid because it hurt. Calla could understand that, she could understand she certainly had a task ahead of her, this wasn’t something she could just let be. There was something here, an opportunity to understand Alister just a little bit more. Alister himself had said Calla and Ana would get along, and it seemed Ana was now helping her get to Alister, get to the father of her child. Calla only wished she could thank the girl for that. Maybe one day WoodWhisp could find out where the girls grave was for her, she couldn’t help but feel she owed a lot to Ana right now.
As Alister trembled Calla moved forward instinctively, resting a hand on his shoulder, but she didn’t relent. Brushing aside a message from WoodWhisp she pushed onward, even as she felt him starting retreating. “That’s it.” She whispered as he looked up at her, his eyes seemed empty but she refused to lose him now, “That’s why you’re like this. You feel guilty for bringing her here.” He was angry at the family for letting her go, that he had confirmed himself, but Calla was starting to think that he was even angrier at himself for bringing her here. For being what led her to the Academy where she died. And of pneumonia no less. Though Calla could understand that, pneumonia could get bad fast, especially for those with little exposure to such things, and from what Calla was gathering Ana had been a very sheltered child. It was no wonder she had died of the disease.
Calla only wished she had been there, she had been able to help. Pneumonia could be very bad, but it wasn’t incurable even in the frail, it just needed time and devout attention. Something she knew from experience that the Academy infirmary always seemed short on.

WoodWhisp nodded, giving Calla a warning to back off, only to be brushed aside. She was much too focused on Alister right now, and WoodWhisp couldn’t help but feel that to be a bad thing. A few more attempts to get through only to be brushed aside again and he gave up, shaking his head. I’m sorry Twilight. He nosed his exhausted mate, She refuses to listen to me. She won’t let this go. Just when he thought they might have a somewhat steady calm it seemed things were about to get radically out of hand again. He had seen it coming, he just hadn’t wanted to admit it. Calla, stubborn, curious Calla seemed to have her mind set on wringing as much information out of Alister as possible. He had known she would at some point, the overwhelming need to examine people always nagged at her, especially to those she was close to. And she found herself much closer to Alister than she would admit. And not just possessive either as she was often insisting.
PostPosted: Mon Apr 06, 2009 7:14 pm

Another slight shudder ran through Alister and he swallowed shying away from Calla. She was still poking into this things, making matters worse and the only thing he wanted right now was to get away from her. Away from the poking and prodding, and most of all away from the words that were doing more harm than good. Shivering steadily now, faintly the question of whether it was the blood loss or something else getting to him flashed through his mind, though he paid it very little attention. That wasn’t important, nothing was important at this point in time other than staying away from the woman and her attempts to drag him back to something he didn’t want to face again.

Ana was dead, she’d been dead for close a year and he had absolutely no reason to even consider feeling guilty. He hadn’t been the one babying the girl, he hadn’t driven her out or put the idea that she needed to prove herself to the family. Though…there was a sliver of doubt that was twisting the knife edged shards of guilt in his gut to the point where the only thing he could do was withdraw further and will Calla and her questions away.

Why do you want her to go away though? Is it because she’s actually right?

The voice was annoying, whispering little lies and shredding what was left of his confidence and sanity. The former was proving to be harder than the latter to shred however, though for all its trouble the little voice was having a field day.

Hrm…your aunt was right when she said you’d be the death of Ana. Right in so many ways. A chuckle accompanied the comment and Alister barely swallowed down a whimper. Bit by bit, piece by piece the thing was intent on stripping him to the very core and leaving him to bleed, and it was succeeding rather spectacularly.

For a moment anyway.

Something cut the whispering voice off mid sentence and Alister felt a brush of something or rather someone familiar. Twilight. The wolf had calmly dragged him back from the brink just as she’d done on several occasions. Even so, Alister was comfortable where he’d withdrawn, much too comfortable.

It took a moment for Twilight to register WoodWhisp’s words before she gave a soft sigh shaking her head mostly from the added weight of fatigue than anything else. Calla had no idea what she was digging into. There were memories that had been buried and needed to remain buried, things that had Alister balancing rather nicely on a knife edge from the abyss. Things she’d discovered over the years, things…that she’d sleep much better not knowing.

But that was besides the point wasn’t it? That wasn’t what was bugging her right now. Something was bugging her rider far more than Calla’s questions. A something that to be honest was better left unacknowledged and buried. An irritated growl rumbled through her, and she snapped her jaws at Calla once, then twice, a clear show of irritation and a warning that the woman was to back off lest she risk getting bitten. And this time, Twilight had every intention of following through on those threats, even as she dragged her rider back from the edge of the abyss once again, the she-wolf kept one ear turned toward Calla. One more question, one more move and Alister wasn’t going to be the only one needing a visit to the infirmary.

She felt Alister pull even farther away from her, and part of her was telling her to stop. But she didn’t, couldn’t, something else told her she had to keep pushing and digging. Anything and everything she could find. Alister’s reactions had already confirmed for her that he felt guilty, but what exactly was it that was pushing down on him like this. There was something hidden deep here and Calla couldn’t just let this chance, this little chip in his cold exterior, escape her. It was chances like this that she needed to come to understand what drove him, things like this that would prove whether she had made a mistake in leaving him alive or not.
But at the same time she wouldn't admit that he needed to get this behind him, and that she wanted to help him do that.
I get the feeling she had a similar outlook.” Calla pointed out, she had no way to confirm this but she seemed to be on the right track so she might as well continue it, "She hated them, and she envied your escape. She probably blamed them for taking you away from her." Calla whispered, her voice seemed softer now, almost as though she pitied him. WoodWhisp tried to get her to stop, but she ignored him, brushed aside his pleas. She had something more important to focus on right now. It was Twilight's snaps that pulled her out of her tunnel vision. All she did was shoot the wolf and understanding glare, but she wouldn't back down. Not now, now while he lay defenseless before her. She had already lost the wolfs trust, she might as well take advantage of the situation that had been presented to her.
But are you helping? Can you honestly say that. Look at him, how he crumbles before your words.
It's always darkest before the dawn. He's got to learn to trust me eventually.
He'll hate you for it.
He already does.
You believe that?
Shut up. This is none of your concern.
The thoughts flew round and round her head, and as she looked at him, examined him closely, saw the look in his eyes, she couldn't help but feel slightly guilty. He'd probably never forgive her for this, but she had no intention of asking for his forgiveness, she didn't need it. It was up to him to prove his worth.

WoodWhisp pressed his nose into his loves neck. Calm love, please calm. He whispered gently as she lashed out at his Rider. He had to protect Calla, he knew that much, but he had vowed to protect Twilight as well. If it came down to a fight between the two women he wasn't sure what he would do, if he would find it in himself to do anything. He had a sneaking suspicion that all he could do would be to look on dumbfounded, trapped by his love for both of them. Calla and him had sparred, on occasion, usually when she was bored and sick of shooting at things that didn't fight back. They'd both learned from it, he'd learned to dodge a bullet and she'd learned to fight a wolf. Twilight was smaller than he was, but she was also faster.
No, he had to stop those thoughts now, he didn't like the path they would go down. He would deal with what came when it came, right now he had to focus on preventing this from escalating.
