DON'T BELIEVE HIM, HE'S LYING

RUN FOR YOUR LIVES

Gaia Name: SirBayer
Character Name: Puck
Gender: N/A (Prefers to be male.)
Age: 698
Species: Demon-Minor
Skills: Playing tricks, sneaking about, general stealth measures and sabotage/spying work.
Physical Description: While Puck’s form is a bit variable, he consistently takes the form of a young boy with fairy wings and a leafy tunic, although the 21st century has forced him to start wearing pants (disturbingly, he is highly chagrined by this fact). In this ordinary form, his hair is blonde and a few inches in length, and his eyes are blue with a terrible, terrible glint of trickery in them. He constantly wears a terrifyingly cheerful smile (see Rejini Kanth in Superstar), which in combination with pointy fingers leave quite to be desired in the normality area. His skin is pale and light, and he’s hardly about four and a half feet in height. His feet are covered with pointed, curly boots.
Personality: As per his appearance and name, Puck is very capricious and unpredictable - childish in every sense. He loves good humor, and his quest is less towards the success and survival of his teammates and more for a good laugh. This makes him extremely difficult to deal with. It’s even harder to work with him when he decides to change shapes and hide from his compatriots, playing tricks on them as much as on his enemies. There are ways to convince him to be helpful; they generally involve the promise of some reward.
Biography: Puck became a demon after a very young death, and never really grew up. He wasted most of his younger child playing tricks on everyone he could find, including those who made the mistake of summoning him. He was very partially involved with ensuring the survival of the Cabal, but was too unreliable to be given such an important task, and was therefore relegated to very backwater tasks in the job, if any. He continued to spend his time playing pranks, and even assisted the deaths of a few warlocks who had tossed their souls through time by eliminating their family lines. Even the outbreak of the Unmasked war had little to no effect on him; he continued to play pranks and generally goof about, until he was forcibly drafted and added to a team of artifact-hunters. His first action was, of course, to glue one of the demons to a wall through an elaborate trick.
Alliance: Outlander’s Confederation
Group Membership: None in particular.
Supernatural Abilities: Puck is capable of Arts-Demonic, as well as an odd ability in biomancy. ((YOU CANNOT TAKE RENARD AWAY FROM US ENTIRELY)) He’s also capable of hiding his mana signature and true nature with supreme skill. His skills in deceit and the like are worthy of legend.

Gaia Name: You get three guesses.

Character Name: Edward Ridley (Also known to some as "Edley," a name he hates)
Gender: Female Male
Age: 20
Species: Human
Skills: Edward can swordfight. Edward can clear any Time Crisis game without being hit once. Edward cannot do both at the same time and could not aim a real gun if his life depended on it. Edward can alternate rapidly between tasks, has memorized over a hundred forced-win paths in Connect Four, and can clear Minesweeper in under a minute on any difficulty - usually in less than 12 seconds on easy. In addition, Edward has sixteen years of experience in iaijutsu and kenjutsu.
Physical Description: Edward Ridley is five feet and nine inches tall, weighs a hundred and fifty pounds, and has enough muscles to frighten an exceptionally weak squirrel. Maybe. He has light skin and a farmer's tan, hair that is short, dark, and usually messy, and dull greenish eyes, all set within a lean face with a jaw that's just a little too square to fit well with the rest of his features. His ID from the Outlander Confederation Military program he was in ("N237") is tattooed on his right cheek in a sans serif font.
Personality: Edward Ridley is the type of person who is so serious you think he's joking - but you can never be sure, and you're a little too uncertain to act like he actually IS joking. Edward is, in fact, somewhat emotionally impaired as a result of being an early selection for the Outlander Confederation's military. However, he has a fierce sense of loyalty to the Confederation and views it very much as the "Good Guys" of the Unmasked War. This may have something to do with that he's been indoctrinated since birth.
Biography: The Outlander Confederation screens all children for compatibility for Demon channeling, in the hopes of finding a more stable way of utilizing Arts-Demonic in the Spheres. The first generation were taught, at as young as four years old, to channel demons. Unfortunately, the first generation began to drop like flies from the stress of channeling a demon. Only one child survived from that first generation.

Edward Ridley is not that survivor. Edward Ridley is from the third generation, when the demons instead were drawn into weapons using crude variations of stolen Divine Cypher technology. Edward's demon, Corhir, is bound within a katana. The Outlander Confederation, having observed that pushing a young body beyond its capacity to channel demonic power was the most common cause of fatalities in the program, built in a lock with several levels for the powers. The lock on Edward Ridley's katana is the sheath itself - 12 different runes cover the length of his 24-inch sword, and the sheath has a three-part lock that allows it to be fixed in place at any point on the blade.

The ability to draw on Corhir's abilities comes with a corresponding growth in her influence on his thoughts and actions, and her influence is one of his greatest fears.

Edward Ridley's childhood was almost nonexistent; he's been trained for as long as he can remember as a vehicle for Corhir. He has a basic knowledge of most subjects but his only specialty is combat.

Alliance: Outlander Confederation
Group Membership: N/A
Supernatural Abilities: When he draws his blade, how far he draws the blade from the sheath determines how much power he gains from the demon sealed within it, Corhir. Like most Channelers, by stabbing himself with the blade, he can bring out the full power of his patron through the symbolic "death of self." The power he draws from Corhir is the full sum of his supernatural power, and while considerable, he's stopped far short of how strong he could be by his unwillingness.

Given that Puck is involved in the faerie nobility, I fully expect him to speak in perfect iambic pentameter, maybe even with end rhymes, except when he's imitating a commoner (naturally). I like how his age is appropriate for having been included in "A Midsummer Night's Dream."

Super-Confucius

Gaia Name: Super-Confucius

Character Name: Cameron Carlyle
Gender: Male
Age: 22
Species: Human
Skills: Carlyle enjoys carving wood, target shooting, and playing dice games and poker. He's a gambler, but is able to stop himself. He has encyclopedic knowledge of movie trivia.
Physical Description: Carlyle is an albino, with no pigmentation at all in his skin or hair and bright red irises. He is skinny, even emaciated some would say, and has something of a scarcity in the way of muscle mass. He typically wears black jeans and a black collared shirt. While he likes sunglasses, he cannot wear them when fighting because he requires a particular set of the Coven's magitechnological goggles.
Personality: Carlyle has an intense inferiority complex relating to his deficiencies in the field of casting; he is sarcastic, makes a habit of snapping out "witty" one-liners, and delights in all forms of excess, be it gratuitous explosions, oversized weapons, gluttony (which he gets away with on account of his metabolism), or sexual promiscuity. He holds an attitude strongly in favor of the principle "the ends justify the means." He is a reasonably warm individual at most times, but has a mind for utterly cold and calculating plans - he feels that he can rank everyone he encounters according to their importance or meaning to him and has no objection to sacrificing someone he dislikes, especially if it confers an advantage that couldn't otherwise be obtained. Carlyle smokes when stressed - in noncombat situations he uses a cigarette holder as a matter of personal preference - on account of the fact that Coven medicine has made smoking virtually harmless (if unpleasant). Carlyle tries a great deal to be "cool" and often acts towards others as if it's their privilege to be in his company - and somehow, he also often creates the idea in their mind that it is.
Biography: In the modern world, physical abnormalities at birth are viewed as signs of prowess in the supernatural. Children born blind often end up seers, those with odd-colored eyes and the like are associated with all-around magical capability. Carlyle, as an albino, is often assumed to be a talented mage. He isn't. He grew up as magic was becoming publicly known and failed every aptitude test he was given while growing up.

Aptitude tests don't have fail conditions in the Coven. The testers literally stated that it would be a waste of time to continue. In school, the magic classes that the government had rapidly been commanded to instate by the Hunters resulted in Carlyle suffering a series of humiliating failures and, subsequently, social isolation. At the bottom of the social food chain, he had nobody to turn to - his mother was an abusive, alcoholic single woman who spent her child support payments on clothing for herself, and had little regard for her child for any reason but the money she could milk from his father (and would more than gladly beat him to get him to go away if she didn't want to tolerate his presence) - and he began to indulge in movies. He soon grew frustrated with those; they were always about larger-than-life mage figures who took down Warlocks or Shadowmen or Blood Mages.

Dissatisfied, he turned to the heroes of a past era - the era of the firearm and the survival knife. Tired of being bullied by every kid with a little kinetics skill at his school, he brought a pair of small kitchen knives to school one day. The school's largest boy and the the kid with the most magic prowess - they were a frequent team - finished with him for the day and were walking away. He pulled the knives out and threw them with the perfect balance of force and spin so that the blade pierced between the ribs and into the lungs. Both of the bullies were dead by the time Cameron Carlyle was in state custody.

He was in eighth grade.

The government now had quite a problem. Questioning showed that he had a very full understanding of what he was doing - he explained it was a calculated move made to force the government to take him in while allowing him to take revenge on those he considered symbols of his torment. "I just won in every way possible," he explained to his questioner. His questioner offered him a second chance - as a sleeper agent for the Cabal's intelligence and covert ops agency, Black Century. The thirteen-year-old instead decided to convert the offer into political capital and ratted out his questioner. His decision paid off, as he was offered "rehabilitation" by the generous Ithaca Group.

There he was trained in more disciplined forms of combat and weapons use, including his weapon of choice, a cypher rifle of the Cyprus series, known for their flashiness, their huge size, and their ability to fire .75 calibre bullets and hold an underslung canister grenade launcher attached to the barrel. Despite his demonstrated ineptitude in both magic and melee (throwing a cypher knife is the last way to use one), his exceptional aptitude for marksmanship, as well as his legendary ability to run diversions with his flair for the dramatic and his somewhat ridiculous, oversized weaponry. His magic ability never got past the point of increasing the power of things that were already present - small fires, electric currents, the like - but he became a part of the military regardless of that fact because a fighter with no need for magic was invaluable against a Shadowman. The fact that a Shadowman's REF only functions in melee range was overlooked slightly (entirely).

Later, an inquiry discovered why Carlyle possessed such a strange set of traits: his early mental maturity and ability to memorize vulnerable points on a person, his icy demeanor, and his albino features were linked to a mysterious case of several power emitters fueled by captured ice elementals being placed within the walls of the house where he was conceived and raised shortly before his mother-to-be lived there. When Coven officials explained this to Carlyle, as well as that it meant he wouldn't be likely to live past seventy in a society where those currently middle-aged were beginning to expect to live to a hundred and fifty - and that those who hadn't felt the sting of age could expect to live well beyond two hundred. Carlyle seemed to take the news well, but at this point completely adopted a persona formed of pieces of nearly every gunslinger from the original Wild West cowboys to James Bond to John McClane to Neo to Jack Bauer to....
Alliance: Hunters' Coven
Group Membership: Ithaca Group
Supernatural Abilities: Cameron Carlyle has only the minor ability to amplify energies that are already present. However, his gun skills are sufficient to fall under this category.

Wait - why can't he be capable of living longer?
PostPosted: Fri Jul 10, 2009 10:15 pm

Huh? Oh, while we were discussing it, I pointed out that elementals only live about 30 years on average, so he asked if he could have the elemental influence reduce his lifespan as a way to explain part of his Crazy. I said sure.

And yeah, Carlyle is accepted...

Nng... Well, just a few problems, but they are kind of major...

I dunno if you quite understand demons here. Demons aren't born to parents - they're born when Angels or humans fall. Demons-Major are Angels who fell, Demons-Minor are humans who fell.

Supernatural abilities seem acceptable, if in need of rewording - what you're looking for there is the branch of magic known as kinetics. I'm pretty sure Demons can have kinetics, based on Maratriel's disguise as Renard.

Other than that... I don't see that it's a problem. Just rework a little realizing that (those things would have happened to him while he was still human, that's all) and you're probably good.
