Frozen in place, Nikolai's eyes implored Guin the way his words simply would not. Go back and telling Jade would be worse than staying here. To know she'd harbored a killer-- not just any murderer, but the one who'd taken her precious person away-- would destroy what happiness they'd had. It would seem foul and bitter and cold to his Guardian; he was certain of that much. If she worried about him.... then it meant she still loved him. Tears gathered in his eyes and he shook his head. Backing up a pace, Nikolai refused to allow Guinevere to convince him as horrid thoughts of Jade yelling at him flooded his mind.
"No!" He shouted suddenly, grasping at his pajamas just over his heart. It hurt far too much to face her again when there was so much more he didn't know. He needed to know first.

Guinevere's expression softened. "Fine." she said. Nikolai was NOT Aaron. Nikolai was still a child.
"I can't stay though." she said, and turned on her heel to go. "I have to go." She looked back at Nikolai and said "I'll visit." before she landed on the stone, in the world again. She clutched her head, feeling a tad dizzy, and jumped from the stone to the ground, frowning and looking around at her surroundings. She turned back to look at the stone for just a moment, feeling a pang of regret before shaking her head and starting in the direction of town. It was going to be a long walk home.

When Nikolai heard Guin's voice he looked up sadly to see her already leaving him behind. Reaching out to her, he was already too late-- she was gone. A terrible sense of loss gripped Nikolai, and the boy fell to his knees in tears when Guin had disappeared.
"Why....?" He questioned of the very Sanctum that held him now as a prisoner, and himself the jailer. Why was it Heralds were born to suffer? Why did they have to die after their message was passed? Why did he have to stay with someone who was so kind and so ignorant of his wrong-doings? It was like some giant joke that wasn't funny, and Nikolai wept there holding onto himself now that Guin had gone.

After an hour, Guinevere saw a familiar redhead in the distance. She was riding a bike and calling "Guin-e-vere!" Speeding up, Guinevere waved back. "Kotatsu!" she called, running towards her. The bike skidded to a stop and the guardian jumped off. For once Guinevere was glad to see the guardian, after all she had been through, the one thing she needed was someone to comfort her and whisper it would be okay. Eyes tearing up with relief, she ran towards her...
Kotatsu grabbed the girl unceremoniously by the ponytail. She was normally docile, but she was MAD. The little Herald had her worried sick, and not JUST her. "Where's Nikolai?" she demanded, and turned around. "Jade!" she called. "I found one!"
