Eyes turned here and there. Immediately there was a sense of students being on their best behavior, as two teachers had found their way onto the floor. It made Anna laugh. "I'm glad you think so, for I've no idea what I'm doing." All she was trying to do was not trip over the hem of her gown or step on Pyralis' feet. Not that he would mind. He would probably find it endearing.
Dancing there, it felt like it was just the two of them. Just her in her finery, and him, looking handsome as always.
For a few moments, Anna's eyes strayed out to the sitting students. Almost immediately they settled on Damien, and as their eyes met, she mouthed to him, Dance! He looked perfectly miserable sitting alone. If only there was a way to get him to join in the festivities...
"Pyralis," Anna said. "Are you going to covet me all night, or are you going to behave and let me run off with other men?" A joke, of course, but the real question was still there. Would she have to fight with him for a dance with someone else?

The once black-winged angel shook his head slightly when he finally comprehended what Anna had mouthed to him. Not only did he not know anyone in pretty much the entire academy, but he also couldn't dance to save his life. All in all, he pretty much had two left feet and certainly didn't try to flaunt this fact to other people, being as uncomfortable as he already was around others.
He sighed again as he saw his elven friend turn and start talking to Pyralis about something. Knowing her, she was trying to convince him to let her try and get Damien to dance with her if anything. He banged his head against the table in annoyance at his incompetence while gaining a few curious glances in the process.

Pyralis thought over the question in a serious manner. His own gaze flicked to Damien for a split-second before returning to his love. There was a flicker of danger behind his eyes, but it was far from being a threat. Gazing into the brown eyes of his love, it was impossible for his own not to soften.
He had been rough to the boy at their first encounter. Damien was one of Anna's dear friends. "I think I could spare you for a second or two if I should be so inclined." The two finished their waltz, and in a final spin, Pyralis had positioned them near the angel.
Bowing to his partner, her kissed her hand and then held it. He inclined his head to the boy. "Good evening Damien. I hope you are well." For her, he could do this
Verdi shook her hair out of her eyes as she did when nervous. It was her usual hair style, but there was more luster to it causing the green streaks to shimmer in the light of the ballroom. These shimmering streaks matched the elegent gown she had on that fell over her form like water. She was definitely out of her element. Scanning the room, she tried to locate Gerald.
There he was with that sweetheart angel. Oh...the girl looked pretty ticked. Did Gerald cause her anger? That was odd to contemplate, but it was about the only option. Not aware that it would be bad manners to interupt, she walked straight up to them, shaking her hair one more time. "Hello there you two."

((Quoting because it's been so long, and you guys have been so active... crying You make me so proud! My new resolution is to be a better guild-leader for everyone!)) Lady Lyssa Dragon Tamer Evangeline spared him a glance, almost wishing he hadn't come, but happy that he had. ' Silly emotions..they're so annoying..' " What for?" Her voice was toneless, and she straightened her back again on the rock.Ella smiled, turning her attention to the statue. There was an almost enraptured look on her face. It took all of her to prevent herself from dipping her head and mumuring " My lady." at the goddess. Diana was not one she had dedicated herself to in full- that was Cerridwen-but she still had the utmost respect for all the other Gods and Goddesses, despite the fact they could all be considered one god or goddess under different names. It could get rather confusing at times. She elected only for reaching up and brushing her fingertips against the water lily, before finding a seat next to him. " It's alot warmer here than I thought it would be." Sebastian raised one eyebrow in question. His hands were raw from the climb, he was thouroughly unsophisticated because of the climb, and the wind whistling through his ears must be at least in the teens temperature wise. "You would like to continue our misunderstanding?" He asked, incredulous. "Believe me, serving you is my pleasure, but you must let me know what your pleasure is." Samyule shrugged, remembering something someone had told him before the Ball. "I think they've enchanted the gardens." He wondered exactly how much Ella knew about the grounds and the students there. He'd managed to snoop and find out loads of things, things he was certain he shouldn't know. However, he held them in the back of his mind as an explanation for all of the weird events taking place.
"Those angels we saw, they must be freezing though. They didn't go to the gardens." He laughed lightly "I wonder if their feathers keep them warm."

Evy rose to stand next to him, still refusing to look at him. " There was no misunderstanding in the first place. I was simply being oversensitive." Her tone was clipped, though it seemed she was more angry with herself. Now that he was here, it seemed she'd lost her guts. The words she had to say seemed to all drip down that proverbial drain. " You surprised me by coming out here, but I cannot help but wonder at it." A weak attempt to steady herself in his presence, of course.
Ella shifted on the bench. " Well, they were wearing what looked like warmer clothes, though they can probably just wrap their wings about them for warmpth.." She said with a smile, rubbing the outside of her arms to generate some warmpth into them. It wasn't that she was cold, more that it was force of habit. " I wish I could do to. It must come in handy."
Colin smiled and stood. He held his hand out to Rosie so they could walk together to the buffet area. " Alright. I'm sure we'll all end up bumping into eachother at some point anyway."

The angel gasped at his apology and opened her mouth to speak, lowering herself slightly, bent at the knees so she looked up at him; he could see form her eyes that she wasn't mad - never had been, except for at herself. "Gerald! Don't be sorry! I apologize! I shouldn't have said anything. You just suprised me with how... Frank? You were?" MaryAnne shook her head slightly and stood up, head bowed. "I'm just... I'm not used to someone like you. I'm terribly sorry. I shouldn't have pried. Sometimes I just can't help it..." She jumped slightly and whirled at the sound of Verdi's voice, turning to face her properly. The angel smiled, features softening and she pulled the other into a delicate hug. "Verdi! You look amazing! Beautiful, really! And I love your gown! How have you been?"

Gerald opened his mouth as though to say something, but MaryAnne turned away abruptly with Verdi's arrival. Any further discussion would have to wait until later, if another chance ever arose. The young man tried to focus and regain some semblance of control over the situation. Looking at the grouping from the outside, he became aware of how rude he must look. Remaining seating in the presence of one lady was bad enough, but now, he was sitting while two stood near him. That wouldn't do. He stood without rushing, stepping aside slightly to give MaryAnne and Verdi equal attention. Not wanting to interrupt MaryAnne, he bowed his head slightly to Verdi in a silent greeting. She was examining his face carefully, and he realized that she must have caught the tail end of what MaryAnne had been saying as she approached. What will she think? he wondered. Verdi could probably give MaryAnne a few pointers for dealing with 'someone like him'. Despite his wariness, their tentative friendship had survived the first half of the year. People didn't pay her as much mind as he had feared they might. Of course, on a campus where you could spot winged angels, fairies, and lord knew what else if you looked closely enough, the small differences in dress and attitude tended to be put into perspective. Putting aside all his preconceived notions of her, Verdi looked quite striking... more polished than usual. He could see more than a few people glancing her way. And, if he were being completely honest, he almost hoped people were looking at that moment. Him standing next to MaryAnne and Verdi... what an image that made.

He laughed a little, kicking a stone off of the craggy hill they were standing on. "Surprised that I came out here with my Ball date? I should think any proper gentleman would make it a point to escort his lady anywhere. Don't be surprised, Evy. It is not in my nature to be unkind." He was being rather disengenuous, he knew, but she'd thrown a wall between them. Now to break it down...
"And besides, with all of the torture we've been through in our lives, it's a wonder we're here at all. Insensitivity on my part and oversensitivity on your part are probably the only tools we have of coping with everything. It will take us time, but we must learn to understand each other for the good of the Academy and the Gateway, if not for our own peace of mind."
Samyule nodded, but stripped off the jacket of his Kurta and handed it to her. "Wrap in this, it's still warm from me, and I've got long sleeves anyway." He was fine, maybe his toes were a little chilly, but the heavy material of the Kurta was keeping him very warm. He figured that if it bought them a little more time out away from the crowd he wouldn't mind giving up his jacket for a while.

Verdi smiled and hugged MaryAnne back. "Thankyou. Your own gown is stunning!" She inclined her head to Gerald in greeting as she let go of the angel. "And look at you. You cleaned up well." Not that he didn't normally dress well, it was just her attempt at a compliment on how he looked tonight. His attire made him rather handsome, truth be told. "I've been ok. Things have been quiet as of late." Grinning, she shot Gerald a quick look. He was still the only one she had confided in about her spirit-seer abilities. "What about the two of you? It's been a bit since I've seen you around MaryAnne."
There were several people that glanced their way. Most everyone at the ball checked out the other attendants, but Verdi felt a few eyes linger longer on their group at times. Though she could blend well in a school such as this, Verdi still had the trouble of dealing with the odd spirit or two. Her random outburts at what appeared to be nothing but air had earned her a place in the school gossip at times.

Through thoughts, Anna didn't sound entirely happy. And as I feel so inclined, I'll do as I please. She loved him dearly, but times like these brought out that stifling possessiveness within him. He was never controlling, and that much she was thankful for, but that subtle hint at keeping her to himself... well, it brought out her rebellious side.
Anna beamed at Damien, not letting these feelings show well. "I saw you sitting here all on your own, and just had to come and say hello. How have you been since I last saw you? You nearly flew out the door before I could even ask what you've been up to."
With a light movement, she took a seat next to Damien, gesturing for Pyralis to sit as well if he so desired.
Rosie grabbed herself a small plate, and handed one to Colin. The buffet was rather luxurious for being a buffet, not that she was complaining.

((I apologize in advance for posting off topic. I want to point out that we have a OoC Ball thread running in the OoC subforum, free for plotting/crazy use. Also, the Gazebo RP in the Academy Grounds subforum is moving on, for anyone who wants to stay involved. I get the feeling folks aren't checking the subforums much...))

The angel nodded, habitually tucking a lock of hair behind her ear. "I've been well," she said and clasped her hands in front of her. "Just... Settling into my dorm, getting to know the campus. Talking to Gerald here, tonight." She gestured to the boy and smiled. "I think I'm going to go roam now, however." MaryAnne smiled apologetically and bowed to them both slightly. She felt the urge to be elsewhere, her craving for the outdoors pulling her feet towards the gardens with an itch. Especially with where her and Gerald's conversation had been going... "Have a lovely night, you two. Gerald, why don't you ask Verdi to dance?" She giggled and winked at them both before turning and moving towards the dance floor herself, elegantly weaving her way through the couples and out to the gardens. Once outside, the blond drew in a deep breath and slowly exhaled, enjoying the chill in her lungs. MaryAnne held the hem of her skirt off the floor as she walked, following the paths her feet told her to follow.

Gerald barely got a chance to bow after MaryAnne as she neatly extracted herself from the situation, and the glance that followed her retreating form had an odd intensity to it. No matter how hard he worked, there were still things going on around him that left him confused and at a loss. He wasn't going to be satisfied until he figured them all out; it was part of his nature. Learn the system and make it work for you. And MaryAnne was... something. Something different. Still, now wasn't the time. He turned to give Verdi his full attention. MaryAnne's parting comments still lingered in the space between them, and Gerald suppressed his annoyance. He certainly knew how to dance, but he had no desire to be seen dancing with Verdi. There were certain lines he drew to their friendship. Not wanting to be rude, he decided to deflect it with a compliment. "You don't clean up too badly yourself," he said quietly and put on a polite smile. "Fashionably late?"

" Ah.Our own peace of mind. Of course." Evy smoothed down the skirt of her dress with a frown. ' For the good of the Academy and the Gateway. And I thought we were friends? Yeah, wonderfully believable there.' With a nod to herself, she took a casual, graceful step into the air off the rock and landed on the ground many feet below, fluttering her wings a bit to catch air and make her landing easier. Where she now stood was yet another garden with a long winding path and small fountains stuck in the flowery bushes and built to look like one with the plants about them. She knew she wasn't making any sense by keeping this up but she couldn't really figure out any other way to get her point across. Heck, she barely knew what the point was.
" Are you sure?" Ella asked, but seeing that he wouldn't let her say no, stuck her arms into the sleeves and wrapped it about her. Only the tips of her fingers stuck out the ends and she felt overly small. " Well, I certainly match." She grinned and fiddled with the sleeves.

Scarlett walked along the pathway, her breath caught within her. The Academy was simply beautiful! Looking down at her pink dress she smiled; it fit like a second skin and looked quite nice on her. She hadn't been feeling well the past few weeks, but luckily she was over whatever bug had made her ill. She reached the doors of the ballroom and quietly stepped inside, glancing happily at all the lovely people and letting the music make her soul dance.
