Nils bit his lip. "Calm down...!" He muttered to himself. He blamed his nerves for the inaccuracy of his senses: the monsters were keeping him constantly on the edge and making him freak out. The bard wasn't used to those... those monsters. "I better get used to them... and fast." He closed his eyes again. "... I'm definitely sensing things in those buildings. Not every building, though."

[[Same here, actually. Elixirs make sense as a potion, but I could still see how it would make sense as an ointment. Maybe some Elixirs are potions and some are ointments. XD]]
Amelia nodded in agreement. When Father Renault finished with her Vulnerary, she secured the cork and tucked the brown bottle back into her pocket. She ran her tongue absently against her lips, chapped from the winter wind, and looked towards the innards of the city. "I say we pick up the pace. We need to keep moving or we'll be on the receiving end of another surprise attack." Nils words only made her want to cement the words. "And keep our guards up. Nils, stay near the center of the group... it's best if you stay in good condition. And with your senses, we'll hopefully be able to detect more attacks before they come."

Nils nodded, moving himself to the center of the group. "Focus... focus... focus..." "... There's another monster up ahead. On the right."

Amelia nodded sternly and looked to the right and ahead. She took some steps forward, holding her weapon in both hands, tensing her position. "Do you know what kind of creature it is?" she called back to Nils, keeping her voice as quiet as she could, while loud enough for the ice dragon to hear.

"Not a Mogall, then... or a Gorgon..." Amelia whispered. She shifted her grip on the lance and took a few more steps forward. "Or a Bonewalker... either a Revenant or a Mauthe Doog... or maybe a Bael..." Amelia took in a silent breath. Really, really hope it's not a Bael.

「 Trudging through snow higher than his knees, the sage crested another hill. Looking down on the sight before him, the boy broke into a rare smile, excitement coursing through his veins. He'd found the town, the streets below were occupied only monsters and...There! The search party!」
「 Rushing forward, the boy's foot slipped in his hurry, sending him plummeting down the hill in a pile of snow. By some strange twist of fate, the sage slid to a stop to the right of the party, slamming into the mangled leg of a decrepit Revanant. With a groan, the boy leaned back, looking up to see what he had hit. Eyes widening in surprise, the sage moves only on reflex, hand darting into his sleeve and whipping out his Fire tome, blasting the creature into oblivion. 」
「 Sighing with relief, the boy drooped a bit, his guard dropping only slightly, and finally righted himself, brushing snow from his robes. Looking about, the boy found himself staring right at the party, and can't help a grin breaking out on his face in triumph. 」
「 There was no time for celebration, however. At that moment, a Mauthe Doog that had been slinking in the shadows rushed forward, leaping at him while his back was turned. 」

Amelia turned as she heard rapid movement from behind them. Her eyes widened, and then she relaxed. "Soren!" she called over, smiling wide. She went towards him, watching as he blasted what she assumed to be part of a destroyed Revenant. She flinched away from the fire, but then relaxed. "Soren! What are you doing here?" she asked with a smile to match his. It was good to see a real friend arrive, not someone possibly masquerading as one.
As the Mauthe Doog leaped towards Soren, the smile dropped right off of Amelia's face and into the snow. "Watch out!" she screamed, lunging into action. She grabbed Soren's shoulder with one hand and shoved him down towards the snow in a flurry of action. First, get the target out of range. Second, take out who or what was doing the targeting. Amelia lashed out with her lance, wincing as claws raked across her cheek. She stabbed a second time into the creature's chest and ripped it out quite roughly, panting. With a flimsy twitch of a hind paw, it was dead.
"Are... you okay?" Amelia asked Soren, blood dripping down her cheek and speckling the white snow.

「 The boy hit the ground before he knew what was happening, getting the wind knocked out of him. Gasping for breath, eyes wide, the boy stared up at a skewered Mauthe Doog, eyes trailing the length of Amelia's lance only to settle on the deceptively sturdy girl. Looks meant nothing in the battle field, he himself was a prime example. Still, the small girl before him was so friendly and cheerful. The boy had never seen her in action himself, or at least never payed close attention. As such, he still found himself awed by the raw power behind her lance arm. The Mauthe Doog had been slayn with one thrust of her weapon. Impressed beyond words, the boy pushed himself to his feet, and held out his hand, respect clear in his expression. 」
「 "Amelia...thank you," the boy smiled sweetly. He glanced back at Nils, boring into him with determined crimson eyes. 」

Amelia reached up to rub the blood away from her stinging cheek, then thought better of it and took Soren's hand before she could dirty it up with the red sticky stuff. "You're welcome," she told him with a small nod. "I would have warned you better, but I was just reacting. Work on instinct. Yeah," Amelia ended lamely. She looked over at Nils as Soren did, perplexed by the intensity of his gaze.
"...Is something wrong?" she asked. "What brought you to chase and catch up with us, anyway? Not that I mind. Always good to have another to join the force." Amelia smiled sheepishly.

Nils blinked. "Soren...? Are you alright?" He didn't understand why the older Soren was staring at him so intensely.

Siegell frowned, backing up to Amelia, keeping his lance leveled in front of himself, and slipped a vulnerary into her hand. "Here. Keep ready, everybody. I've been fighting those things all morning, they move in packs. Where there's one--"
Siegell growled as another Mauthe Doog rushed out of a nearby darkened doorway, and before it could lunge at Nils he brought his glaive around and cracked it squarely on the head, and in the same fluid motion whipped it around and opened up the beast's stomach to spill its steaming guts onto the snow. He stared at the carcass, then looked up, ignoring the stench. "Where there's one, there's a dozen."

Amelia nodded in agreement. She took the Vulnerary with a muttered "Thanks" and yanked off the cork with her teeth. She dabbed some of the ointment onto her palm and rubbed it vigorously against her cheek, ignoring the stinging that she caused from her less-than-gentle application. The healing effect got rid of the annoying sensation as she re-corked the bottle, letting it stay gripped around her fingers while she held her lane with her other hand.
As a Mauthe Doog reared up to slash her in the back of the head, Amelia whirled around and effectively decapitated the beast with one fell swing. She took one step away from Siegell, keeping her lance out, but didn't distance herself too much. As much as she disliked him, he was terribly great back-up. "Hopefully less than that. We'll have left a path of blood if that's the case by the time we reach the shop," Amelia commented.

「 Smiling hesitantly, still, the boy pulled his Heal staff from its bindings, freeing it for use. He quickly ran it over any wounds on the girl's body, invigorating her in the process. "It's perfectly alright, Amelia. I was simply caught off guard. It's no big tragedy. My bottom will recover much quicker than my head." 」
「 The sage watched as a Mauthe Doog tried to take Nils out, and his heart skipped a beat. After all he'd done to catch the boy, it wouldn't do for him to fall now. He couldn't resist a sigh of relief as the wyvern knight slaughtered the beast, and eyed him warily. He'd seen him before, and could sense the man's fighting spirit clearly. The boy was impressed by the blood lust in battle, but the man displayed such an aura even in times of peace. This made the sage wary, but not fearful. He settled on trusting the man in battle. He'd just seen the other man in action, and was glad to know he'd watch his allies' backs.」
「 Not about to let his guard down, the boy stepped forward warily, inching toward Nils. Spying a Gargoyle a few houses down, the sage reacted quickly, blasting it with a clean hit from Elwind. He watched it fall, satisfaction on his face as the creature fell with a sickening crunch in a crumpled heap in the street. 」
「 Turning back to the pale boy with a nod, the sage held out his palm, offering a small suede pouch. "For you, Nils." 」

Nils shuttered a bit, noticing the Mauthe Doog trying to attack him, and watching it die at Siegell's hand. "... He just saved my life." He sighed in relief.
He jolted slightly in surprise when he was addressed. "Hm? Oh, uhm... Thank you, Soren." With a small nod and smile, he took the small pouch from Soren's hand. Curiosity overwhelming him, he peeked inside the pouch. "... What exactly is it?"
