Lito nodded. "I understand what you mean, but staying quiet can still keep them from knowing exactly where we are, you know?" As he spoke, he reloaded quickly.

"These tunnels are a nightmare of echos," Devin pointed out.

"That's why you use hand signs." Jack muttered as he fell in line behind Devin.

"But you can't tell where anything's coming from either way," Devin explained, growing impatient. "We could start screaming and yelling and they'd never know which way we were coming from."

Lito held up a hand to calm him. "Hey, come on man. You know what he meant. Quiet is always good, you know?" He turned back to the door, sinking behind a crate and readying his MP5.

Paul was too busy to respond; Raul seemed more in a position to take notes of things as he dragged crates out into the hallway. "It's true there's echoes, but nonetheless there are only a few entry points to this room. If only we'd had a little C4 on us, this would've been a lot easier. Instead it looks like we're gonna have to entrench for a while, which is gonna be trouble. You guys good at throwing grenades back?" That was a little disconcerting.
There was no apparent opposition yet but shouts could be heard in the distance.

Lito shrugged. He mimed throwing a nade and shook his head. No nades.

Raul responded by miming catching a grenade and tossing it back and cocking his head. The message was clearly not throwing your own, catching the opposition's and giving it back.
The shouts and footsteps were getting very close; it was queer that this particular section of the tunnel had been nearly empty. Lito hadn't gotten time to see what the men he had gunned down earlier were dressed like; they'd been moving too fast and it was too dark. It raised questions as to who they were actually fighting.
Paul was still busy with the keypad; it wasn't responding apparently because it didn't even flash lights or anything even though it clearly had them.

Lito grinned broadly and flashed two thumbs up. Ohh, I'm good for that. He settled into his cover and thought about going back to check the bodies.

Shouts kept going. It became apparent that they were shouting...
...no, it still wasn't apparent, nevermind.

Lito got Raul's attention, then mimed both reloading and throwing, then pointed back the way they had come. Should I go grab some more from back there? He mimed killing the men, to make it clear where he intended to go.

Raul paused, then shook his head. He counted up a lot of times then signed enemy - way too many enemies. The shouts were getting very, very close now. They heard steps come up to the edge of some of the branches, and they could hear the voices much more clearly. It was decidedly foreign - it sounded like Russian but there was some uncertainty. Flashlights were shining from the branches, but none of them moved. They were being more quiet now. Raul raised his UMP and shut off the flashlight at the same time and indicated that the rest should be the same.
Gurlovich tapped Devin on the shoulder and held out something - IR goggles, once Devin took them. It was clear the commandos were doing this part for now.

Devin donned the goggles and looked around, acclimating to the appearance of his surroundings.

Jack shut off his flash-light and listened. "Russian..." he muttered. He tryed to make out what they were saying. He tapped his head and pointed towards them than their groupd. They know we're here.

The Russian was far too echoed for Jack to make out coherent sentences. Just words like "shoot" and "how many" and such. They were clearly unsure as to what they were facing, but they were about to try and find out. Suddenly one of the commandos (it was impossible to say who) came by and pushed everyone down and out of sight of the enemy except for Devin. He tapped Devin's shoulder then gave gentle pressure - stay down and we'll surprise them seemed the concept.
The first Russian began putting his head around the corner. No order to fire or not to fire was issued.
