Zarud decided it best to be patient and sat down near the entrance. He spent his time manipulating lighting in the palm of his hand, it had taken him some practice at first but he had learned it quickly those 200 years ago.

"no thanks, I'm not a lich anymore, but thanks for the offer. As for Seth, heh, she's in a foul mood right now, after I turned away from the revenancer, your matron betraying the council, and that demon bird freak bursting into her house..not to mention what you did to her toy... she's on the verge of wiping out half the city." He grinned slightly, "oh by the way, there's a surface drow running around the city if you haven't heard."

He nodded, "a good idea, anyway, I better scram before Seth comes back around this way. If I hear anything more i'll let you know." with that he walked away.

As the guard lead the way, his had a deep gulp in his throat. "Well sir, you see...Lord Llmryn is not much for guards in the first place. He has his own unique way to dealing with such things as unwanted company. We are a guard force of only 20 men right now. Before the move here we were a force of 170. As I'm sure you understand with the force you have, that is still not many. Lord Llmryn told us that worthless men were not worth taking with him. He left behind all the other 150 men he didnt see fit to take with him. As far as why he says he doesnt need an army...well, forgive me but I don't think it's my place to give way my lords secrets."
He lead Val'atar into the main house and to the door of Llmryn's office. "Inside here sir" He guards opened the door for him, and inside the well decorated office, sat Llmryn at his fine wood desk. "Ah, Lord Val'atar. Thank you for coming to visit me so soon after letting my into your fine city. I'm quite sorry about how my guards rudely left you at the gates to inform me of your visit. I assure you nothing like that shall ever happen again." A hot cup of tea was already sitting at the chair across for him, ready for Val' atar. Llmryn drink from his own cup and motioned a hand to the seat across the desk from him. "Please, do have a seat. What is it I can do for you today.?"

Valatar Druugiir Llmryn ValSarghress The guard ran quickly as he could to the gates, opening them quickly. "I'm so sorry Lord Val'atar, My master Lord Llmryn would like you to meet with him in his office. Please follow me sir. I am also on command to make sure you are in full comfort for the duration of your stay here, so act anything of me you like." The guard started to walk to the main house, making sure not to walk too far ahead of Val'atar. " While I thank your Lord for the offer, I'll be fine as I am. As for asking anything.. I see a lot of strangers within your grounds, does your Lord not have enough soldiers to keep this estate safe and guarded?" -Before they reach the house, a creature of some sort appears from thin air. It speaks to Val'atar, though he cant quite place whom it is-" Do I know you? You ask if I know why you are here.. to which I would guess.. because your searching for something. That said, I have little time for conversation with commoners.. Guard, lead on to your Master's office." -Val'atar waves the creature off, shooing it away before turning to follow the guard once again. It seemed the defense of this place was severely lacking, if he intended for the city to remain at some measure of peace, he would have to step in and make sure that Qu'ellar Val'Rilyniryn
remained secure from outside assault. Perhaps he'd offer the use of some of his mercenaries, though for now he was satisfied with following the guard and observing the grounds and their workings-*fading back into a wisp of smoke Izaran followed, completely undetected.*'I will not be stood up on such a vital matter...'*he thought* 'nothing will deter my path'

-Val'atar moved into the office and took the offered seat, waving off the tea. He gazes at Llmryn for a long moment from behind his partially covered face before speaking in his silken, but steely voice-
"Your guard did what I asked, he went to inform you I was here.. as for the reason of my visit, it is two fold.
For one I am welcoming you to the city and making sure that you understand the rules and laws. Outright conflict with another house is forbidden, unless you are successful and can completely destroy said house without leaving evidence to tie to your own house. Likewise assassination of other Nobles is also forbidden unless the former rules are met. Religious persecution is not tolerated, though discrete actions may be taken so long as it is kept out of the public eye.
All trade is to be conducted through the city merchants, those found to be trading illegally will suffer sanctions and possibly removal of rank. At this time your house is ranked 5th.. two houses have recently faded and been removed from the ranks, so your fairly high on the list. It also means you have a seat at the Blada de'Qu'ellar, Council of Nobles. You will have a vote in the affairs of the city and you will be required to front some measure of defense for the city in whole."
-Glancing around for a moment as he pauses, his ruby gaze returns to Llmryn as he resumes-
"The other reason for my visit is to check on your defenses and your trade situation. As you will no doubt learn, my merchants control the trade that flows in and out of this city. In such regard, because I also control the largest house, the most arcane users and the most soldiers.. I have a small say in the affairs of the houses within the city to varying degrees. My overall goal is the well being of this city as a whole and should I believe that a house.. whichever house it is.. is not working for the greater good of the city, then I will see that house removed.
Permanently."
-Val'atar holds up a thin dark hand to forestall any comments until he had finished-
"Aside from those issues, I wanted to ask if you might require mercenaries to supplement your guard forces. I've seen several commoners wandering into your grounds and while I do understand the need for dedicated and obedient soldiers.. there is a point where principles must give way to the care of basic security, would you not agree? It is not in the interest of this city to see your grounds over run with the clamoring commoners and thieves that are present within the inner city."

"Of course how may I assist you?" Highly lucrative? I wonder why he hasn't talked to Valatar about this, he has more power here than I? He thought to himself, making sure his mind was shielded from prying eyes.
