Thanks, people. biggrin I love my Dottie bunny. biggrin

Anyway, she's getting old. She used to love running around the house, but lately whenever I let her out she just either hops down the hall and lays in the hall or just goes back to her cage and tries to get back in. :/

She is such a silly rabbit. I gave her a towel to lay on in her cage and she's chewed holes in it. So I gave her an old phonebook. If you ever want your rabbit to NOT make a huge mess, don't give them one. Dottie tears her up and scatters pieces all over her cage, including into her potty. XD (She lays in her's too, when it's clean. Must be comfy for her. XD) Anyway, Dottie loves her phonebook. XD

xd Ours found a piece of cardboard from their water bottles today and wanted to tear it to shreds (not as messy as a phonebook, but still). However, they couldn't agree over who got it, so they tugged at either end until they decided that neither wanted it and moved on.

The rattle is a hit! They both like it. The morning after we introduced it, I saw Marple grabbing the end and smacking the rattle part against the back cage wall to make it jingle. =D

Fawn has a new thing going where she resembles a rodeo horse. After a bit of time out of the cage, she gets excited and starts leaping as high as she can as she does 180s Then she bounds in and out of the cage and on this one rug she loves. After that, she's worn herself out and lays down for a rest on the rug for a few minutes before repeating. >u< So cute.

Pellets shouldn't be the biggest part of your rabbit's diet. It may be that you are feeding too many pellets. My Bandit isn't a fan of his hay, but will eat it when he finally gets hungry. They need hay. Bandit's pelleted food is the best I could find in the area, made mostly from timothy hay, with a fiber percentage range of 18% to 23%.

I forget the exact amount, but I think rabbits need about a cup (or maybe a little more) of veggies too. Pay attention and find out which veggies are best. Carrots seem to be the most thought of veggie with rabbits, but they're actually quite sugary and fattening. I usually give Bandit a good amount of Romaine lettuce. Anything dark and green is usually good, but lighter greens like iceberg lettuce should be avoided.

according to the person i bot it rom, who has multiple rabbits, thats all hers eat and it has everything they need and is based off hay. i give them hay anyway and they always get 1/2 an apple, grapes, 1/2 a banana or 2 carrots and night. princess also dosnt seem to be eating as much but that could be because its so full of nutriants.

Hay is absolutely essential to a rabbit's diet and should be about 90% of what the rabbit eats. Hay stimulates normal gastrointestinal processes, including digestion of food, absorption of necessary nutrients and excretion of normal feces. Without hay in their diet, the intestinal tract of rabbits may slow down or completely stop moving. This is referred to as 'gastric stasis' and can increase your rabbit's risk of developing hairballs. Without enough hay, the rabbit's teeth don't always wear down properly either, and can develop sharp spurs on them.

Fruit is more of a treat, and I would advise more veggies to be given. Carrots are ok, as long as it isn't very much. Bandit will sometimes get a baby carrot once a day, 5 times a week. You can easily surf around the net and find a list of safe veggies for bunnies.

A diet based only on pellets does not provide everything. Hay provides long fiber that those little pellets just don't have. Besides, they don't seem like very much fun to eat, do they? Try everything you can with your rabbits and keep it interesting, food is one of Bandit's favorites things.

I'm not trying to scold you or anything, just giving some friendly information. Do try the orchard grass. Sometimes I have to switch things up on Bandit or he starts to refuse some foods.

A high quality pellet can give a rabbit a long full life without nutritional defects. My rabbits ate nothing but pellets except for twice a week they would get the hay stuffs for extra roughage, especially during molts. And considering that I've raised over 1000 rabbits, and multiple grand champions, I tend to shrug my shoulders at what "pet" owners say their animals need.

However since rabbits do tend to put on the pounds especially females, I would cut the treats, the apples, bananas, grapes and such, while the rabbits enjoy them they are actually not much of anything to the rabbits but added sugar. They don't need that, and processing so much of it is not good for them.

The new poll is funny. =D

I figured out something interesting with Fawn's little rodeo runs. She always seems to run back into the cage, making a loud noise against the back of the wall, then then she runs out. Smacking hte back of the wall was worrying my mom (she kept thinking Fawn was running into it because she couldn't stop and was going to break a limb until I pointed out what Fawn was REALLY doing - She gets up enough speed bounding in so she can plant her feet on the BACK WALL OF THE CAGE and push off of it! =D Think of when you push off a wall while swimming, only without the water....

My rabbit Johnny does this too! He also banks off the walls in his running area in my apt. It's so fun to watch!

Bandit does that too when he gets really excited and wants out. Sometimes he'll do it off walls in the house too. He also has a curious habit of standing on his hind legs and putting his front ones on the wall and then trying to "jump up" the wall. I don't know where he's trying to go, but it doesn't work. xp
