"pwn" is (by my understanding) one more than "owned". Some genius must have thought, "I owned this guy so much that 'owned' isn't a good enough word. I'll increase the first letter by one to 'pwn' and THAT will be the word I will use. Yes... it will be 'owned + 1'!"
