Aku Kami Kurayami I meant a gun with a crew.
Roll a d6 when shooting at it.
1-3 hits the crew, 4-6 hits the gun.
Its an artillery piece, the same as units of Big Gunz are for the Orks.

Is that specifically for the Thunderfire cannon?
In 5th ed it's 1-4 hits the battery and 5-6 hits the crew.
Forgeworld it's always 1-2 hits the battery and 3-6 hits the crew.
Don't ask me.

I don't think I payed attention to that when I was reading the 4th ed book, and I really don't feel like reading either ATM. But if it hit the gun, would it just count as no wound?

If it hits the gun, you resolve it as normal for shooting at something with AV. Ork Artillery has AV 10-10-10, and I'm not sure what the Guard Heavy Mortars are like.

isnt a heavy mortar, called a griffon or something? or if it is on a carriage, then i think it is just a vehicle anyway (just going on inferences here) as for regular mortars and heavy weapons and such, they are just two models, the gun isnt a factor (please dont think im insulting your inteligence by saying such as i did)

Well, the Griffon did have a Heavy Mortar, but Forgeworld sells them independently and has their own rules for them. They count as being imobile and you randomize hits with the crew and artillery piece, just like the normal artillery rules.

i personally dont like the idea of a shooty commander
the way i see it the commander either leads his army from the forefront lending his strength/inspiring presence/etc to the battle (e.g. marines, orks, chaos)
or he supports his army from a distance (ie eldar)
a shooty character upgrade for a unit would be nice (e.g. captain badrukk)

Supporting your army from a distance DOES include its own share of shooting, believe it or not. rolleyes
I personally would like to see the inclusion of possible HQ tanks for Guard. That would epitomize a "Shooty Commander."

And, of course, the aforementioned Tau Commanders in Crisis suits. Cyclic Blaster + Frag Projector = lots of dead bugs or maybe a Marine or three.

i think that there should be a scout seargant telion-esque HQ char, with his own special gun and such, i could see a devastator commander, probably what captain of the 9'th company would be, as for tau... i need to madel a crisis suit commander with a FRICCKIN HUGE gatling gun, held in two hands, hmm, wonder what the stats would be...

As far as it goes, there really can't legitimately be any HQs like Telion for the sake that HQs are supposed to be leaders that get down and into the fray. Tau are a bit more legitimate for a heavy weapon.
As far as your "FRICCKIN HUGE gatling gun," the stats would likely be that of a heavier Burst Cannon.

well, ofcourse, but if you are thinking what I think you're thinking, which is probably what you're thinking, though I could be thinking wrong, I want something heavier than a long-barrelled burst cannon, with a bost to strength as opposed to range. (do LB bursties have upped strength?)
