Forces at Play :: Part I
::Isn't that what they tell you to do when you're tired?::
It'd happened. It had finally, finally happened.
He'd done it!
Reid stared down at the plush in his hands, glowing like a flashlight and grinning from ear to ear. It wasn't a huge growth, only a few measly inches, but the important thing was that it'd grown at all. Even more importantly, it hadn't just been the plush's leg or head that'd grown. No, the entire thing had grown in one fell swoop.
The effort had left the firefly Mishap panting and tired, but euphoric and frantic at the same time. Throwing the grown plush up and onto his bed he fluttered about, shoving on his jacket and the dreaded boots before flying to his window and pushing. He needed to go out, needed to try it for-no, on himself.
He'd never actually tried to cast on himself, a lurking fear that doing so would only help the receding would always spring to the forefront of his mind when he considered it. But this time was different, this time he was going to do it and do it right and he was going to grow.
But he felt like it he didn't do it right away something about the moment would be lost. Maybe if he didn't do it right now he'd forget how he'd even managed to get the plush to grow and might never remember.
It was stupid logic, but he was feeling unusually frantic, lost in the rush of possibility.
Finally the window opened a bit and, suction to the frame lost, he was able to hoist it all the way out and slip into the cool night.
Down out of his window he flew, onto the roof then off and onto the snow covered ground of the backyard. Looking up he took in the stars and smiled. Being outside helped, it always did.
Taking a deep breathe he closed his eyes and concentrated, spreading all four arms and facing his palms inwards. The same forces that kept everything else at their current sizes delegated him and after a moment of quiet he fell into the awareness of it.
Taking one last breath Reid concentrated all his energy into an expansion, widening and rising and shifting-all at once.
For a moment he felt it beginning to work. His palms twitched and pulled as he willed it to continue.
Then it was like first growth all over again. Pain seemed to strike every cell in his body at once. he hissed between his teeth, subconsciously pursing his lips to keep the sound from escaping and distracting him further as he fought against the nature of his own body to shrink.
The pain grew and grew with as the seconds passed and finally he couldn't take it anymore.
Crying out his arms snapped in, wrapping around his torso. "Stop!" he screamed, the pain stayed and he whined, doubling over.
All at once the pain fell away and he was left panting with his eyes squeezed shut.
When at last he peeked through slit eyes the mounds of snow had become hills and the house behind him was like...well, honestly he couldn't think of anything to compare it to.
Shoulders drooping he pressed his hands to his face, hoping the scene would just go away if he ignored it for a bit.
He waited, and waited, and finally spread his fingers, only to find everything just as it had been before.
Groaning Reid fell back into the snow and sighed, glaring at his annoying large surroundings then turning the glare onto his own hands.
"You've won this round..." he grumbled and allowed the appendages to flop onto the snowy ground and sighed again. What was he going to do until the casting wore off?

Forces at Play :: Part II
:: Of bad choices and tactful retreats :: The options had been quite clear after about five seconds of lying in the snow.
Stay and freeze or get up and attempt to find a way back in.
Opting for the later Reid had taken to the sky. The search was fruitless and after several minutes of fighting against the wind only to find every door and window within easy access sealed shut.
Of course, the number of windows and doors he could actually get to could be easily counted on one hand.
Turning tail he sighed and flew with the bitter wind, heading for the forest and what little shelter it offered.
He'd nearly reached it when the wind died, leaving him gliding silently as a host of previously masked sounds reached his ears.
The most clear of them all was the dull hoot of an owl and a small smile crept up onto Reid's face as an idea formed in his head.
-- The Mishap crouched low, shifting his weight slowly, manuvering from hand to hand carefully, trying to create the least amount of sound possible as he stalked his way down towards the snowy white shape.
As far as he was concerned his idea solved all his problems at once. Owls were fluffy and therefore had to be warm, riding one would keep him warm and occupied until the casting wore off, at which point he would go and huddle in front of the fire and never again attempt something as silly as casting outside.
Perhaps it was the cold or the lingering exhaustion from the earlier casting attempt, but the suspicion that riding an owl when he was only a few scant inches tall was a bad idea never once crossed his mind.
A fairly short, flexible twig was grasped in two of his hands and he bent it further, intent on using it like a makeshift rein. With a cry of glee he jumped up and propelled himself into the owl's back, grasping onto the feather with his remaining two hands.
Immediately a pair of very large golden eyes were on him as the owl's head swivled around.
The owl screeched and Reid screamed.
Both flapped their wings in fright and the owl snapped at him. To her he looked vaguely like food, but her food had never had hands before.
Letting go of the twig and the feathers he still held a vicelike hold he balked and flew off. No longer was this the solution to his many problems, no, suddenly it was plain as day just how stupid it'd been.
The owl fluffed herself and soared after the...whatever it was that had jumped her. She was angry and intrigued and hungry. The mouse she'd been about to capture had escaped yet again. But this thing looked as if it'd make a decent enough meal and was much slower than the mouse. It wasn't even looking behind itself to see if she was following.
How utterly foolish.

Valentine's Day:: Part I
::Cause, effect, and leaving a meal to steam::
"Sooo~ is this a dinner or a feast?"
"Both."
"You realize there is only two of you, right?"
Rico's glared at his sister and wiped his hands on the apron that was covering his bloodred shirt, "get away from that cake. And I know, there shall be many leftovers for days to come. The fridge is big enough."
Chao laughed and licked at a frosting coated finger, "let's hope so." Sauntering up to her twin she gave him a hearty thump on the back, "don't stress out so much, okay? It's Jizzy!"
"I'm not stressed out."
"The two dozen chocolate eclairs says otherwise."
"Didn't you say you were going for a walk?" he snapped, glaring until Chao held up her hands.
"Alright, alright. Fai and Ai are watching Reid at the HQ. I'll be back in a few hours," pulling on her jacket and gloves she paused at the back door, the mid-morning sunshine shining through the window onto her lips as they quirked into a smirk, "oh, I almost forgot. I left some things in the drawer of the living room dresser, just incase you need them. Don't soil the couch, alright?" she winked, and bit down a laugh at the lovely shade of red her brother's face turned. While she was thick about affection the inner workings of sex and its accessories were less of a mystery.
"OUT!"
With a squeak the teen bounded out the back door leaving Rico to take off his apron and shake his head.
A minute later he was investigating the living room to see if his sister had been bluffing.
Sabotage. Yes, though she hadn't caught the little rascal she knew that this was sabotage. Jizzy was fuming slightly as she trode up the hill to Chao house. She was rather chilly in the clothes she wore, a kneelengh, backless red dress with some gold embroidery.. Very fancy. Very rich, and apparently rather old by the way it was sewn and cut.
Her closet had mysteriously been filled entirely with soot only hours before she had her dinner with Rico, and though Deimos had already vanished off to that ship of his, Jizzy knew he was to blame. THis dress had been saved solely because she kept it locked away in a chest, seeing how little she used it. SO now, that was all she had..
She reached the top of the hill and her little temper tantrum began to dissipate. She.. well the dress didn't make her look that bad. So, hoping for the best, she raised her hand and knocked on the door.
Rico jumped slightly at the knock before scowling at himself. He was not nervous, it was just Aeon's stupid paranoia rubbing off on him. Yes, that was it.
Taking a deep breath he grabbed the old fashioned, traditional Heanzian frockcoat he'd decided to wear over the rest of his clothing and, tugging it on, exited the living room and made his way to the front door.
A smile spread on his face as he pulled the door open, "Jizzy..." he breathed, eyes straying over the dress and the bit of bare skin he could see, before the cold began to creep it. It wasn't spring yet. "Oh, come in! How are you?" he asked in a rush as he ushered her inside and shut the door.
Jizzy rubbed her hands quickly across her arms to get the warmth of the house into her system as she smiled up at Rico.. He looked so handsome.. She felt the weight of te small purse she carried with her and smile broader. She'd gotten him a gift.
"It's nice to see you again.." SHe said, moving to him and givig him a tight hug for greeting, her hands still chilly.
Rico returned the hug, shivering at the brush of her chilly hands. Stepping back he took her hands and rubbed at them gently.
"It's nice to see you too, though not when you're so chilly, did you walk here without a jacket?" he asked, protective amusement leaking into his voice as he tugged her down the hall towards the warm kitchen.
"I was planning to wear the jacket you got me.. but.." She trailed off, her mind suddenly ticking away at punsihments before she snapped abck. "my closet seemed to mysteriouly fill with soot. Everything in it will have to be washed at least 5 times to get it back to normal.." She said, and though she was upset she smiled, her hands warming as he held his.. "I think it was Deimos' way to stop me from coming..."
Rico pulled a face, it seemed Deimos still wasn't fond of the idea of them being together. Well, not that they'd ever really given him reason to and hadn't Deimos basicly hated him beforehand? Or maybe it was protectiveness of Jizzy... who knew.
"He's expressive in his discontent, I'll give him that," he grumbled with a shake of his head. Taking off his frockcoat he drapped it over Jizzy's shoulders and his lips quirked upwards at the way the traditional clothing went together.
"Other than that have things been going well?"
Jizzy felt much better now with the coat around her, her hands keeping it close to her form. "Well enough.. Deimos had soem trouble for a while, but he seems to be ok now.." Despite the fact that she was ready to murder him, Jizzy still loved her son. "Found a way to make some extra cash too, so that's always a perk." She said, smiling. Mmmm.. something smelled good in here...
Rico nodded slightly and guided Jizzy from the kitchen into the dining room then into a cushioned chair.
"That's good..." he trailed off, brow furrowing in thought, "Jizzy... has Dia contacted you at all?"
Jizzy smoothed her dress down a tad nervously before shaking her head and answering.. "No.. not really.." She said softly. "But it's not liek I blame her. I'm rather inept at magic most of the time." She said, a goofy little grin still on her face.
Rico hugged her, "Dia's never even seen you work magic. It's just that she hasn't contacted me since the job in january, she hasn't contacted Ae' either." He shook his head," it's really unlike her, usually I can't get her off my back...."
Pausing he stood, "but, nevermind about that." It was a day for love, not stupid halfbaked worries. An impish grin tugged at his lips as he remembered his gift to her and he pulled out a bloodred bandana, "Jizzy, would you mind putting this on?"
Jizzy took the blindfold in her fingers tentatively, a sort of giddy feeling rising in her chest. She raised it to her eyes, knotting it behind her head. SHe chuckled. "I'll assume there'll be no peeking.." She joked, hand reaching out for his in her currently blind state.
"If you peek then you don't get to have any of the cake," Rico warned sternly, shaking a finger at her even though she couldn't see him.
After waving a hand in front of her face he quickly hopped off, dashing to one of the drawr's in the kitchen and pulling out a medium sized, dark-blue box. He spared it a fond look before turning about and heading back into the dining room, dimming the lights a bit. This gift was best seen in the semi-dark.
Quietly he took her hands and placed the box in them then tugged his blindfold up off of her eyes. With a nervous smile he gestured for her to open it.
Sitting inside, upon a small bed of midnight blue velvet was a gift.
Jizzy felt the blindfold leave her eyes and she looked down at the box now in her hands.. She noted the dimmed lights and looked over to Rico, before her gaze returned back to the gift.
She opened the box quickly and froze for a moment.. Her fingers slowly began to move, pulling the necklace from inside the box.. "Rico.. It's beautiful.." She whispered. She was never one to own much jewelery. It just wasn't a luxury she could afford anymore, but this. The way the stones colors changed from balck to green as she moved it slightly.. "It.. It really is.."
Internally Rico's inner self did a spontaneous little dance of happiness then prompty passed out in relief. The only part of that which leaked through to his outwards expression was a minute little foot spasm and a wide smile.
Gently he took the necklace from her and placed it around her neck, clipping it carefully. The black satin which covered the neckpiece fit snuggly, but not restrictingly, around her neck while the obsidian beads and tiny silver tubes splayed down around her neckline and collar.
Quickly he ducked in to place a chast kiss on her forehead, "I'm so glad you like it...it suits you," she looked like some sort of Victorian age noble woman with the dress and the frock coat accenting the necklace.
A small flush filled her cheeks as his lips touched her forehead and she smiled shyly. "I.. thanks.." SHe said, not really knwoing what to tell him. SHe loved it. "I.. I got you something too.." She said softly, though feeling like her gift wouldn't exactly match up.
Her hand went to her purse and she pulled out a small box, where inside rested an aztec gold medallion. She placed the box gently in his hands. SHe'd gone through a lot of trouble to find it. SHe'd hidden most of her possesion from Earth rather well. "It's Terran.." SHe said, explaining, seeing as, if she recalled correctly, Rico ahd never been to Earth.
Rico's eyes widened at the sight of the gold medallion, the world-trekking, archeological geek in him waking up and searching his memory for what the medallion reminded him of.
"Terran..." he said softly, before something clicked, "this is from Earth... Aztec's! The Aztec right? I've read about them," the crew never went to Earth and never expected to, but that didn't mean he couldn't read about the places that had existed there once.
"I never thought I'd even see something like this..." he breathed, tracing the golden marking with one finger, bluegrey eyes bright with excitement.
Jizzy felt joy rise up inside her. He liked it! "Yes.. It's Aztec.." She said, beaming at him. "I lived a lot of different places on Earth and I spent some time with the Aztecs...." She said. She ommited several tidbits about sacrifice and whatnot in her explaination. Rico didn't need to know about the bloody rituals they performed, not today. "SO, you like it?" She asked, hopefully.
Rico gaped for a moment, he always forgot about Jizzy's age along with the fact she'd probably been to more than he and his sister combined. "Wow... maybe someday we could go to Earth together?" he suggested thoughtfully.
At her question he nodded vigorously and hugged her, "I love it, thank you."
At hsi suggestion her heart gave a leap and she nodded vigorously, despite his grip around her. "Yes! There are so many places I'd like you to see and people to meet. Earth is a really nice place." SHe said, exitement creeping into her voice as she slung her arms around him. She calmed quickly as she held him though and smiled.. "Happy Valentine's Day, Rico.." She whispered to him..
Rico laughed happily, excited at the prospect of getting to go to Earth, with someone he loved who knew the place no less!
A content smile settled on his face, "Happy Valentine's Day Jizzy," he whispered back, giving her a tight squeeze and simply holding her for a minute before moving away, "so, what kind of chocolate are you in the mood for? I think I made..." he glanced at the kitchen and grimaced, "about every kind imaginable."
Jizzy eyes seemed to glimmer with a light that simply hadn't been there before. "You made chocolate?!" She asked, exited beyond all belief. She was a chocoholic. "Oh.. uh.. milk chocolate is good." She said, trying to make up her mind. She loved them all!
While Jizzy's mental struggle rage on, a loud knock came to the front door. There was a soft chuckled and a hand slipped an envelope onto the doorstep, before vanishing.
Rico grinned and dissapeared into the kitchen before reappearing with a small tray of chocolate crossiants and a small heart made of milk chocolate.
"Try these and tell me what you think," he said, placing the tray down on the table, "I think someone just knocked, maybe the post finally remembered we exist," he rolled his eyes at the thought and quickly ducked out to the front hall to retrieve the letter and check outside. But there were no other letters, no boxes, no crabby post grunting about hills, just a letter with no return adress marked for 'Mahlah'. Wasn't that Jizzy's given name?
Curiously Rico made his way back, making sure to give the letter a good rub on his wrist to hopefully disperse anything magical attached to it.
"Jizzy? I think this is for you..." he said showing her the envelope.
Jizzy had been very happily nibbing on a croisant, looking more lieka happy kitten than a noble woman at the moment she looked over at Rico. She pulled the crousant from her mouth, a tad bewildered.
She took the lettere gingerly and immediatly the large wax seal V on the back of it made her skin go perhaps 3 shades paler. It.. it couldn't be her again.. Jizzy opened the seal cautiously, and, feeling no magic inside the envolope, unfolded the letter inside.
Her skin could not have been any paler, and her hands began shaking as her eyes scaned the lines written in a language she ahd hoped to never see again. Dalian.. her first language.. The language of her homeland.
Jizzy gulped as she finished and she opened her mouth to speak. "I.. I.." She managed to breath before looking down at it and taking a deep breath, beginning to read out loud.
"Dear sister,
I miss you dearly. Even as I write this letter I wait the day when I can finally speak to you face to face. I am sorry I could not stay and visit you today, but your friend is about to have some rather important visitors. I was traveling abroad and during my short time in Heanza, I found some people very eager to see Aeon. I pointed them in the right direction: I hope you don't mind. I am sure they will be very grateful. They never would have found her without you.. I will be seeing you soon.
Love, Amalia. "
She could have collapsed right there...
Rico tried to read over Jizzy's shoulder for a moment before giving up and waiting for her to read it to him. He wasn't dissapointed.
At the first mention of his homeworld he froze, breath hitching, as the letter wnt on his entire body seemed to freeze up.
Aeon, Heanza, important visitors... she'd been right, all this time... and she was out intheforestandhe'dsentherthereohgods.
The teen suddenly lapsed into a bout of frienzied babbel, reverting to Heanzian. The rolling 'r's and slightly frenchlike lit all conveying his sense of panic as he turned and ran into the kitchen, pausing only to grab a slightly damp castiron and one of the larger knives that were laying on the stove.
The door clattered behind him and he sprinted towards the forest.
Jizzy just stood there for a while, gripping the letter in shaking hands.. Chao.. She was in danger.. and it was all her fault.. If she hadn't been there, they wouldn't have been found. Chao and Rico would have been safe.. A tear fell onto the paper..
Chao was out there.. in danger.. Jizzy heard the door slam after Rico's departure. Chao was in danger.. That fact reverberated time and time again in Jizzy's head. She re-read the letter.. They enver would have found her without you.. Jizzy crumpled the letter, dropping it harsly onto the floor. Her legs finally seemed to react and she set off after Rico.
It was all her fault...
It was only when they'd sprinted up the knoll that led to the forest that the cawing of frightened birds and the harsh roar of something broke the air.
Rico didn't lose pace as he entered the forest, the twigs and rocks dug into his bare feet and ripped at his pants but he paid none of it any mind. The trail he was leaving in the underbrush was a clear one as he followed the growing sounds of violence until he burst from the woods into one of the many fields that littered the area.
Across the way a burly man squinted and pulled the lit cigarette from his mouth. "Hey, Peregrin." Immersed in watching the action hidden by the trees the other man didn't reply.
With a rumble Jacque smacked him, rubbing the cigarette into the other man's neck. Pereguin yelped in pain and spun around and immediately throw a punch to land on Jacque's jaw. "Wha'n'da Seven Hael's did you do that for?" he spat, rubbing at the burn.
"You weren't paying attention, Cref," Jacque snarled and pointed across the way, "what do you think, Pip, that the slut's brother?"
Squinting Pip scratched at his three day beard, "he sure looks like her. Got the horns for it to," he laughed, "sa'ria's weilding a frying pan. Guess he figured out what was going on."
Jacque grunted and suddenly the roars and gunshots from behind them stopped, "looks like the curtain's going up. Go deal with the slut, if it really is her give'er a name dose. I'll deal with this crefcra."
Pip nodded and quickly slipped off into the forest.
Jacque took a few steps and threw his cigarette away, reverting to the language used in this world, "yo! Hold up, this is a restricted area," he called out to Rico and Jizzy.
Jizzy was rushing, grumbling about not aving worn tennis shoes when she skidded to a stop by Rico. Why had they stopped? SHe looked up, spotting the man in front of them. Restricted area? She was panting, guilt, worry, anger, all sorts of emotions swirling inside of her. Chao was in danger. They needed to move!
Rico hadn't stopped, swinging the frying pan he made to slam it into the horned man's head and just barely managed to stop and pivot when a gun was leveled and shot at him. The cast iron did it's work and deflected the bullet to spin harmlessly into a tree nearby, Rico's wrist groaned in pain as it snapped back slightly from the impact.
Jacque laughed, "so you are the little whore's brother! All grown up and attacking the big boys."
Rico snarled and darted forward, not bothering to waste his breath. Jacque jumped back and fired off another shot, grimacing when the tip of the teen's knife caught his neck.
Rico cried out when the bullet caught his shoulder but the sound was drowned out slightly the gasp of a feminine cry from within the forest.
Jacque laughed, glancing over his shoulder, "ah, looks like the Heifliam finally got her."
Rico's face contorted and he swung, pain be damned, "a Heifliam, you brought a Heifliam here?!"
Jacque bowed away from the swing, "on He'ancele's blessing. Hope your sister's a serpent charmer too."
Jizzy wasn't sure what a Heiflam was. SHe wasn't even sure what was going on, but once her eyes saw the blood on Rico's shoulder, once her ears heard his groan, Chao's cries, she just snapped.
All the pentup anger, for her family, for Amalia, fgor this man for even daring to hurt Rico came out at once and Jizzy lunged for him, shimmering with magic. Her hadn gripped around Jacque's neck, her eyes blazing. It was her fault.. The least she could do was get rid of these guys.
"Don't ever call my friend a whore..." She whsipered, a low dangerous tone that almsot seemed foreign coming from Jizzy's mouth and she sent a surge of magic through Jacque.
It crept up him, not giving him much time to react to fight back. There was a certain bamph noise and Jacque's head lulled in Jizzy's ironvice grip. Blood and chunks of brain matter began to slwoly creep out of his nose, eyes and ears...
Jacque had only a moment to fight away from Jizzy's grip and it was wasted on a laugh which nearly turned into a scream when his magical resistance did him no good.

 [Valentine's Day:: Part IV]
[Lapse of Self]
Janet yawned slightly, damning the lateshift and the caffine crash she'd apparently just experiences. The nurse idly finished checking the various IVs and the bandages covering the young woman's bloodied, winged appendages, along with the various, often beeping machinery before finnally moving on, intent on making herself another cup of black coffee, shutting the door behind her.
It was several minutes later that Chao began to stir, grumbling and shifting, stuck on the edge of consciousness. Something was stirring, just under her skin. She could feel it and within her mind's eye a six-year old version of herself looked at the small dot of silver on her arm and wondered why the men in the shiny uniforms had seen fit to put a needle in her arm.
With a huff and a strain her eyes cracked open, misted and completely unseeing as the burning began to sharply increase and spread. It moved from just under her forearm upwards and down until it was just under her fingertips before violently spiking in heat.
With a gasp and a strangled cry she sat up, hands fluttering to paw at her throat desperately. All at once she was six and sixteen, memory and reality violently colliding as she tried to yell but was unable to vocalize more than a whimper.
Her pupils had shrunk to mere pinpoints, the washed out grey of her irises were nearly glowing, giving light to the room which otherwise had none. The whitewashed walls were almosty blinding bright, adding yet another layer to the pain.
She screamed again, fingers gripping at her neck so tightly it came out muffled as her muscles spasmed and fought against her own crushing grip.
The machines at the side of her bed merely continued to nonchalently beep in the same pattern as before, detecting nothing as her heart rate spiked and she finally wrentched herself up and away, ripping Iv cords out of her skin and stumbling over her own feet as she threw herself out of the bed, landing hard on the tiled floor.
Mewling in agony she pulled herself up and half stumbled half crawled towards the small bathroom, crashing in through the door. Her gaze latched onto the showerhead like it was some blessed artifact and she stumbled into the stall.
--
It was some time later that Janet found the young woman bleeding in the shower with the water set as hot as possible, scrubbing furiously at her skin.
It had taken the help of two other nurses to get the distraught patient out of the bath room and she'd fought furiously against them until finally being sedated, leaving the weary trio scratched and bruised from her feverent kicks and swipes and wondering why the machines set up had never alerted anyone to the situation.
They moved her to another room and thankfully the remainder of the night passed quietly.

 [Valentine's Day:: Part V]
[End of the Day, Beginning of the Morning, and no rest inbetween.]
It was sometime later, in the early hours of the morning that Rico was forced to slip out and away from the covers. He left as quietly as he could after being roused by one of the nurse's who were on nightshift after scribbling down a note for Jizzy to find when she woke up.
Jizzy~
Sorry about leaving, I need to go check on Ae', sounds like something happened. Her new room number is 147, if I'm not back by the time you wake up that's where you can find me.
::Rico
Jizzy mumbled in her sleep, having another bad dream. Amalia plauged her thoughts now that Jizzy was sure she was here. She woke in a cold sweat after seeing Amalia go after Deimos and Tal. She shook with fear, refusing to open her eyes and her hands groped out searching for Rico.
But he wasn't there..
Panic filled her and she sat up, her head spinnign around frantically. Had she come? WHy ahdn't she woken up? She didn't see any blood or gu.. wait..was that a note..
Hoping against hope it was not Amalia, Jizzy picked up the note and sighed as she read it. So he was just seeing Chao.. Getting up and palcing her shoes on, she hoped CHao was ok. She tread out of the room, heading off to the room, arriving ina few minutes time and cracking the door open.. "Hello?" SHe whispered in.
Rico glanced up at the whispered greeting, he'd seated himself in a chair next to Chao's bed after chatting with the nurses. The teen looked, if anything, even more exhausted than the night before.
He smiled, though the movement was strained, "hey Jizzy. Come'in, she's out like a light again."
Jizzy frowned.. SOmething was wrong, she knew it.. Treading quietly into the room she moved to Rico's side, placing a soft hand on his shoulder.. "How is she holding up?" SHe asked quietly, trying hard not to look at the sleeping Chao.. The guilt would be to much if she did.
"She's doing better... now..." Rico replied, bringing his hand up to squeeze at Jizzy's while he rubbed at his eyes with the other.
Jizzy gulped.. She brought up her other hand to Rico's head, sttarting to stroke it, trying to comfort him.. "What.. was wrong before?" She asked tentatively, the movement of her ahnd through Rico's hair calming her slightly.
Rico leant into the touch greatfully, shutting his eyes, "I don't know... a nurse found her when she was making her rounds, she was in the shower, she'd set the temperature as hot as it could go and was scrubbing at her skin.... They tried to get her out and back to bed and she went crazy, bitting, kicking, scratching, screaming... I think she managed to tramatize a few of the nurses who were on watch."
He groaned, "I think she had a bad reaction to.. something. Maybe the drugs they gave her, maybe whatever that guy injected into her. But the bloody machines never registered that anything was even wrong. They did some blood tests and everything seems normal now... maybe she got it out of her system...."
Jizzy gulped. What had that man injected into her friend anyway? SHe continue to play around with RIco's hair, her fingers curving around his horns. "I.. I sure hope so.. but.. Chao.. She's a tough chick.." She said, trying to encourage Rico. "She'll pull through.."
Rico shivered slightly as her fingers curl around his horns. Horns are, naturally, annoyingly sensitive, espically to magic, which Jizzy practicly gives off in waves half the time anyway, or so Rico's horns say. Though they have been known to be deceptive....
Rico blinked and attempted to snap out of the derranged monologue. Too little sleep, too much stress... He nodded a few moments later to her statement.
"Yeah... you're right, she'll pull through, she's too stubborn not too..." he sounded a bit like he was trying to convince himself.
Jizzy sighed, her hand slipping off of RIco's head as she felt the weight of guilt resume in her stomach.. "Yah.. She.. She'll eb fine.." She said, her hand moving to her arm. She was starting to feel awkward, sitting around here.. She was the one to blame for all this..
Blindly Rico reached out and grabbed back the hand that'd fallen away. There something very comforting to him about touch, espically her touch, and he's in no state to question that comfort.
They're saved from having to create small talk when the doctor from yesterday arrives, glancing at the obviously not doing so well duo he frowns slightly, "Mr. Luaier, Mrs. Luaier, I'm quite sorry to have to do this, but I think I must insist you both head home and get some rest. The patient won't be waking up for quite some time now, and I believe it would be for the best for your own health and her own once she wakes again that you be mentally fit and not falling asleep on your feet."
Jizzy nodded idly, the back of her mind screaming out at the Mrs. Luaier comment. The doctor either though she was CHao's sister or Rico's.. her midns topped right there as did her movements.
She regained mobility in a while and tugged at RIco's arm.. "COme on.. The kids will want to see us.." SHe whispered to him.
Rico nodded vaguely, having apparently only heard half of what the doctor had said and allowed himself to be tugged out of the chair.
The doctor turned and quickly gave Rico the number for a nearby taxi service and instructed them to the nearest phone down the hall before shooing them out of the room.
Jizzy leaned her head gently on Rico's shoulder.. "Come on.. The taxi can drop you off first, you look liek death, Rico.." She said, moving for the payphone and quickly calling a taxi.
"They'll be here in a few minutes.." She said, hanging up the phone and sighing.. It had beena long day..
Rico continued to faithfully cling to one of Jizzy's hands like a lifeline, nodding his head, trusting what she was going on about, even though his lagging mind really wasn't keeping up that well.
As she hung up he lent against her and sighed, then laughed quietly, "we left the meal out, didn't we?" he shook his head gently, mourning the loss of what had originally appeared to be a fine Valentine's day. Jizzy sighed and nodded, leading Rico downstairs and outside to wait for the taxi. "I'll tupperware it when we get to your house.. THat way we can enjoy it later.. Maybe in front of the fire.." She suggested, sitting on the plastic bench outside.
Rico sat next to her, curling his toes and pressing his feet together, nodding a bit, the image that presented was appealing.... "That sounds nice, I hope it keeps."
The yellow taxi pulled up and Jizzy stood, helping the tired Rico to his feet. "Just prmise to get some rest, ok.." She said as she opened the door, ushering him inside and relaying directions to the driver.. Some Valentine's day this had been...
