Xavier was just about to go down and talk to these wingless ones when somebody came by. He quickly hushed the other. It was that one that wanted to kill the wingless Jungle Folk. Mei his name was right?
"There's some wingless Jungle Folk down there." He whispered to him. "But sorry I don't know where we are either. i live deeper in the forest and have never been out this far."
He looked back down to see if the wingless ones had heard him. Apprently they had heard something and were looking around right now. He crouched down hiding a bit more.

Tayo said nothing, but let the little Cockatoo cry a bit more. It was good to release emotions like that. He rarely did it anymore, but whenever one of his siblings felt like crying, he would just hold them until they fell asleep.
Hichiro seemed to be carrying a lot of guilt over what happened. He must've been as surprised as the rest of them to have lost his temper so quickly. He hadn't realized that what the others had said would affect him so deeply.
Tayo slowly lifted his fingers to wipe off Hichiro's tears. He didn't like seeing them on the faces of Jungle Folk. They were meant to be a proud race, powerful and strong. Or perhaps he was only thinking like this because he was a Harpy Eagle.
"Dry your tears," he said in a commanding but soft voice, "No one is angry at you. I'm not."
Hichiro hiccuped and Tayo tried to repress a small smile, although the corners of his mouth twitched a little. He wasn't prone to smiling to Jungle Folk he barely knew. Only his siblings ever saw his rare bright smile. And perhaps someday his mate, if he ever got one. If he ever had the chance to get one, what with the threat of the Wingless Folk looming ever so closer.
"The Hummingbird suggested that we observe the Wingless Folk before we decide whether to attack them or speak to them so that we may see whether all of them are aggressive or not." He spoke in a voice without much emotion. "It's a wise suggestion, I believe. I was out searching for them to spy on them, but then I came down here to rest and I saw you crying."
He leaned against the tree bark Hichiro was sitting on, relishing the coolness of the bark made moist by the neighboring waterfall and stream. "Do not feel guilty anymore," he said, "There is no reason to hold on to this guilt for too long."

Hichiro whimpered softly as tayo wiped his tears away, thinking he was reaching up to stike the young Cockatoo, not comfort him. Once again the strange Harpy Eagle showed no emotion, but showed kindness through his actions. Hichiro thought he wouldnever understand this strange Eagle. "You're...you're not angry with me?" His nearly whispered the words, relieved but suprised. he had expected the other Jungle Folk to hate him after the sudden outburst. A small, but warm smile spread across the Cockatoo's lips. The reliefe was beginning to out-weigh the suprise. At first the Eagle's words were just that, words. And nothing more. But soon Hichiro's mind focused and made sence of everything Tayo had been saying. "That sounds.....very reasonable. I hope everyone else follows the Hummingbird's advise. Xavier.....I believe that was his name.....seemed a bit anxious to talk to those strange creatures. But then again, so was I." He smiled meakly and looked up st the Harpy Eagle. "And thank you...by the way.....for helping me, and stepping in front of me in the clearing, and for comforting me just now.....you may not show much emotion, but your actions are very kind." With a somewhat clumsy flap of his wings, Hichiro rose from the fallen tree he had resided on and gathered his basket of fruit. he was feeling much better and thought he should get back to his brothers. "I better get back to my brothers. It was very nice meeting you Tayo...oh, sorry. I herd you tell your name to the Finch as i was leaving. Mine's Hichiro." Two more flaps of his wings and Hichiro was off, toward his home. He had seen one of his feathers falling and grabbed it just before it was out of reach. One song he had written a long time ago popped into his head as he thought of Tayo's kindness. He pressed the feather gingerly to his lips and played the song he wrote for his mate when he was seven(for the record, the link is to a video on YouTube about Lugia's Song from one of the pokemon movies. I do not own it in any way, and I did not make the video. I just happened to find it and thought the song would be good for either Hichiro's little brother's lullaby, or his mate's lullaby.....even though he hasn't found his mate yet)

Tayo watched Hichiro fly away. He was glad the Cockatoo had cheered up. He picked up his spear and let his wings get into movement before flying off into the sky.
It was time he started searching for some wingless folk. He decided to head to the east of the jungle where he hadn't been before, and heard strange noises reaching his ears soon enough, like the screeching of high-strung birds. His sharp eagle eyes showed him where to land and he swooped down, making sure to take cover behind a tree trunk.
His bare feet landed on a thick branch and he threw himself flat against the trunk to hide. Slowly, he peered round and saw them.
They did indeed look like Jungle Folk, but their backs were devoid of wings and they were dressed in the strangest of garments. On their heads seemed to be a bright yellow half-cut coconut.
Tayo couldn't hear what they were saying as they were speaking in low voices. Two of them were conversing and poring over a parchment with scribbles on it.
And then, Tayo noticed the giant yellow beast being controlled by one of them from within. Its body was sharp and angular, its neck was long and moved slowly, but it was the giant jaws of its mouth that had him almost in a fright.
It stuck its maw into the earth and lived, heaving great clumps of dirt off. Another loud noise reached his ears, one he couldn't even describe. One of the wingless folk had taken what looked to be a giant gray tooth that spun and was slowly bringing it to the trunk of the tree Tayo was hiding in.
He felt the tree begin to vibrate and slowly sway and he felt his insides grow cold, still pushed flat against the trunk. The tree... They were cutting down the tree! What madness was this?

Shiro watched Tayo disappear into the trees, and a moment later took off himself, in the opposite direction. Now that he felt slightly more in control of the situation, some of the anxiousness had lifted from his chest. This could work. They could do it.
He hovered above the jungle, his wings humming faintly in the air behind him. Carefully, he scanned the treetops for any sign of the wingless folk. Some smoke, a disturbance in the trees perhaps. However, to his immense frustration, he could see nothing. Sighing, he decided it was best to go back down into the forest and get his bearings, then return to the search. He dove into the trees and touched down on a branch, taking in his surroundings.
He was surprised to find that he wasn't entirely sure where he was. He wasn't too concerned, though: he could almost always find his way back to his home, no matter how far he strayed. Casually he turned his head to see the view behind him, and nearly started off his branch for the second time that day.
A few trees away from him, a Harpy Eagle lounged on a branch. Secrecy was really not working for Shiro today. However, he quickly recognized him as the second Harpy Eagle from the earlier conversation. He wracked his brain to find the name that went with the face. The memory suddenly came to him: Ivalice. Cautiously, Shiro spoke.
"Hello. Ivalice, right? I'm Shiro. You were at that meeting earlier, weren't you?" Shiro tried to keep his tone light, not wanting to risk making the other Jungle Folk angry. "I'm not sure whether you're interested or not, but I thought I'd let you know that me and Tayo reached an agreement. We're going to monitor the wingless creatures for a while, so we can better understand what they're doing here. If we find out anything important, we'll pass it on to everyone. You don't have to help or anything, I can understand why you wouldn't want to. I just figured I'd let you know."
Shiro flitted his eyes about nervously. This was the second time today that he'd spoken to someone he didn't know, and the second time that he had no idea what they would say. Proper conversation was not his strong point, as he rarely talked to anyone. He waited quietly for Ivalice's response.

Ivalice glanced over at Shiro when he came into the viewable area. Silently he watched the other Jungle Folk approach him and his tree. In a way he was surprised but at the same time he wasn't. After all its not like he was the only Jungle Folk in the area. There was more than even he realized and so many different kinds. Just shows how badly these wingless ones were affecting everything.
"Yeah..I was." he spoke softly to the obvious words about his name and where he was. He had been there and joined in on starting the argument that followed. Sighing a bit he really didn't want to think about it. And now they had come to an agreement of sorts. Something he mentioned to boot but he wouldn't have anything to do with it. He's had his fill of them.
Nodding gently he spoke again, "Well...you two be safe with your mission. Would hate to see more Jungle Folk fall to them."

Shiro nodded, "Fair enough. If you ever change your mind, we shouldn't be too hard to find." He stood up on his branch and prepared to continue his search. Before taking off, he turned back once more to look at Ivalice. "And you stay safe as well." He launched himself into the air and soon he was once again above the treetops. However, this time, he found what he was looking for. Off in the distance, a thick plume of grey smoke rose from the foliage. Feeling triumphant and more than a little tense, he headed toward the signal. As quietly as he could, he descended into the jungle and landed in a particularly leafy tree, so that he would be hidden from sight.
And there they were, many of them, gathered in a clearing. Or, at least, what used to be a clearing. Now it was more of a long, smashed out path, with mutilated and up-rooted trees stretching as far as Shiro could see. He gaped at the sight. What in the world could possibly create this kind of destruction?
Well, the beings were certainly as they had been described: they looked like Jungle Folk in every way, except that their backs were clearly wing-free, and their bodies were covered in odd forms of cloth that Shiro did not recognize. Many of them were situated around a roaring fire that burned in the middle of the clearing, while some of them milled about by the trees. They weren’t doing much at the moment, but if the carnage behind them was anything to go by, they were obviously going to do something soon. But how could these creatures have destroyed the trees like that? They couldn’t have done it on their own. They must have been helped by something.
Shiro pressed himself a little closer to the tree trunk and surveyed the scene silently. Something had to happen soon. Hopefully, it would be something that gave him some insight as to their true intentions. He settled himself comfortably and prepared to wait for whatever it was.

Tayo cursed as the giant tree was slowly being -mutilated- in his mind, and had to quickly steady himself and flap his wings to fly off before he fell with the giant tree.
He swooped down, having not completely found his balance, but caught himself in time and dived into a clump of bushes in order not to be seen.
He panted and flipped on his back, peering over the shrubs to see the fallen tree. The wingless folk trooped around it and began cutting off the branches. Tayo flinched and looked away. It almost felt like they were cutting his own arm.
'Those monsters!' he thought furiously, still lying in his hiding spot, 'Those filthy, filthy monsters!'
Emotion began to well up Tayo's throat. He refused to let them fall as tears however, and lay down in the cool grass, pressing his hands firmly over his face. He needed to calm down. That's what he needed to do.

(Yeah I had no access to a computer excpt for a bit one day. It sucked.)
These seemed like nice wingless jungle folk. Maybe if he showed the others them they would be willing to talk to them. He knew they couldn't all be bad. He flew down to talk to them.
"I'm sorry to bother you. But I was told that your people are the ones who have been destroying the forest. I figured if I came and talked to you you would stop. This is our home and I don't want to leave it. Please stop destroying our home."
Xavier was a little afraid that they might be mean and hurt him. But he was going to hide it and stand strong. After all he figured they didn't know that he wasn't a fighter. Though they might realize that Tucan's don't fight.
