Sitting around base was boring decided Darsais. They were four or five minutes in and she hadn't gotten to do anything! She looked around, decided Sei and whoever the other teenaged boy was could fend off any intruders (They were male and muscular enough, and Sei had wicked hand-eye cordination), and crept down the corridor. She was bound to find something to shoot at sooner or later.
She looked down at the display on her chest, and then at her gun, and then at the hands that held her gun. Why had she thought that she could escape Lethe's fate of being all glow-y? Artificial skin plus black-lights apparently equaled bioluminescence. She scowled and pressed herself up against the wall like they did in spy movies.
She could make out a pair of figures in the gloom ahead of her. Darsais tightened her grip on her gun and readied herself to pull the trigger...
...Only to realize they were both wearing red harnesses. Dusty, was it? Their fearless leader, and someone else. Well, that was just peachy. Where were all the blue devils?
"Seen anyone from the other team?" she hissed, drawing closer to them.

She coughed and rubbed her nose as she looked up and blinked in the darkness in an attempt to dispel the little black dots around her vision. They didn't quite pull away completely, but she could see her brother now. "B-Bhel?" She hiccuped violently, grasping her knees as the black dots moved... and changed... "Y-you have to go," she whispered, squeezing her eyes shut. "Go. Go away..."
She'd seen ghosts on the platform, and they'd seen her. But Bhel was okay. Bhel could still be okay. All he had to do was leave - now. "Go, Bhel. Run..."
Mitsu shuddered and pressed the heels of her palms into her eyes as she finally began to hear them. Fireworks exploded in her eyelids as their voices joined with those of the ghosts in the cave, closer than ever, howling and screaming in fury and rage, seeking vengeance, solace, that she could not give...
"Run away!" She cried with more urgency, turning herself towards the wall, away from him and the ghosts, and covering herself as best she could with her black-feathered right wing. Beside her, Rat began to growl, or hiss, or chirp, or whimper, or - something - and his twitch began to speed up, and he pooled into the ground, spreading out and becoming larger.

Somewhere between the red base's corner and the corner opposite where they had entered, Nao had halted to deal with the annoyance of glowing like a light bulb. He usually didn't wear shirts anyways, much less when they caused him to stand out even more in the middle of a fierce battle. Either way, a small p***k of irritation had developed into a 'oh dear gods please scratch my back for I cannot reach it' sort of ordeal.
Peering about him for signs of life outside the rattling of the music, Nao pulled out his knife and began to cut off his shirt at the sides. Then, without any artistry whatsoever, he began to yank the cloth out from under his plastic armor from the neck hole. It was only after the Fa'e had been relieved of the cloth that the reason for wearing the shirt in the first place became apparent to him.
Plastic plus sweaty body equals the most disgusting feeling ever. Cursing some more to himself, he stuffed the wadded shirt into one of his khaki pockets, where it bulged oddly. Adjusting his gun, the Aztec Fa'e maneuvered himself along the wall while continuing in a counter clockwise direction.
Maybe he'd run into someone soon. Or better yet, just stroll into their base and become the hero! Quietly, he kept an eye out for blue lights. Absently, he wondered if he could fly with this most disgusting vest strapped on him, but the likely hood seemed slim.
He began to sneak more as he rounded the next corner, keeping an eye out for the blue team's base.

"Awesome!" Mik beamed at the pair before heading away from the base, trying to stick as close to the walls as he could, hunkering down if they were low - which was only so effective, because he was tall with big wings and trying to be 'good' and not crawl, because that was against the rules. Holding the gun two-handed went out the window quickly, though, as it slipped his mind. He was too busy concentrating on looking for people and hopefully not getting shot to think about holding the gun with both hands.

Slinking past low walls and columns, Caoimhe let herself slip back into a more primal state of mind, crawling across the carpeted floor like she might have rolled through the bush of Aranorn. Of course, her stealth on Aranorn had been for survival; this was just for fun. Ahead of her, Caoimhe could see the tunnels that framed the second level. She thought about heading for high ground to try and get a bird's eye view on everyone, but no, that was probably what everyone else would do.
Rookies.
Pulling at the awkward weight of the vest, the selkie clopped along clumsily, stumbling every so often. This really wasn't what she expected. Suddenly, to her left, a fog machine went off, spraying her in the sickly sweet smelling mist. Again, she dropped her gun, cursed to herself, and quickly ran to the high wall to the right of the center structure on the red side. Where was everyone?
How could she do battle if she had no opponents? Crouching low, Caoimhe leveled her gun in the direction of the blue base and waited for the sound of someone---or something.
Lazertag was starting to feel a little overrated anyway. The Celtic girl would rather spear throw or wrestle; what good was this fake gun?

Guarding the base seemed to suit Sei just fine - he took a look at his surroundings and found some place to duck which did not make him obvious, yet allowed him a good look at the entrance and some sniping range.
The blacklights did not really seem to affect him, beside his eyes, that seemed to gain some dull glow that stood out among the darkness. Beside that, and the lights on his vest, he blended in the darkness near-perfectly.

Go away? Bhel had just found Mitsu. And she was clearly not in a position where he could just leave her alone.
Putting on his best surly toddler pout, the bull Fa'e stepped closer to his blood sister and thrust his hand out for her. "Mitsu!" he commanded.
He did not, however, see the darkness on the floor. Because it was already dark. As soon as the inky blackness that had been Rat touched Bhel's hoof, the toddler gasped in shock. His whole body felt a surge of cold, like Lucretia had hugged him. Staggering back, Bhel shouted again to his sister. There was something on the floor that was gross and starting to make him feel sick to his stomach, so she probably should not sit in it. But he lacked the words to express it.
"MITSU!"
In the meantime, Lucretia thought she was onto someone. She could see a glow in the mist up ahead, and sped up to try to catch up to whomever-it-was. Gun leveled, the Raevan rounded the corner, just behind Lethe, gun leveled, waiting for a good clear shot.

Dusty was a little too dazed to really understand what Sparks was saying. He got the idea that yeah, this was an adult-type person who was talking to him, and hey, he was getting help getting to his feet, which was pretty good- but cripes cripes cripes, his head HURT now!
Accepting the hand up, the deerkitten kept a hand to the stinging flesh on his scalp and looked dizzily upwards, then back down at the pack on the ground. "Suh... somebody dropped that!" He exclaimed at last, indignantly flooding his voice. It was only insult to injury as he realized at last that the pack belonged to one of his own team members. Someone on his own team had tried to kill him?! "ON MY HEAD! ********' OW!"

Shai took just a few steps out of his base, and stopped. He was still clicking his trigger, but it only fired occasionally...it seemed there was some kind delay between accepted clicks! More than a bit unsure about what he was supposed to be doing, Shai lifted the shards upon their golden tethers...absently arranging them into a corona overhead for light.
Unfortunately, it made him a screamingly bright target.
"This is a game, yes? I-" A distant, muffled cry echoed back to him, and he tilted his head, curious. Was that part of the game?

9/60
Lethe was having a grand time prancing through the corridors of the laser tag arena, oblivious to the rising smell of liquid static she would have found familiar. So far she hadn't seen anyone -- that was alright, though. She was busy enough humming her own spy mission theme song (from the days of her partnership with Lady Airi) and being aloof.
Then lights flared up and her vest vibrated, signalling a direct hit. "I'LL KILL ALL YOU BASTARDS," was the immediate response as Lethe whipped around, eyes narrowed to practically slits as she hunted for the source of the damage. Lucretia luckily wasn't that hard to spot -- upon seeing the ghostly floating apparition, Lethe ducked and rolled towards the nearest half-wall for cover. Quickly untangling her own limbs (she wasn't very good at being dextrous yet, but she bet it had looked cool while she was doing it) from each other and scrambling up so she could aim, Lethe pulled the trigger as hard as she could.
Nothing. "What is wrong with this thing," she hissed lowly to herself, quickly ducking down again before her target could figure out she was having technical issues. What the Hades, this gun wasn't even a gun if it couldn't shoot stuff -- figures she'd get the only one with performance anxiety!
Oh well. If nothing else, it was at least a handy if funkily-shaped club. Jumping up from her 'hiding place', Lethe gripped the base of the gun with both hands and charged mightily towards the Raevan, apparently on a kamikaze mission.

10 | 60 | 0 (T + S) 10 | 60 | 0 (Kiba)
Twitch and Spark offered Mik a salute, before they settled back against the nearest wall. How well the red team worked together would determine how much work they would have to do in this game. If they could make it past the blue team members then the twins might actually have to actually use their guns. But for now, they could relax. Score.
Kiba, on the other hand, caught sight of his helpful Large Person and scurried after Mik. Running on his little pink toes proved to be more difficult than he'd imagined, especially with the gun in his hand, and so the ratling switched appendages. Gun wrapped safely in his tail, he dropped to all fours and scampered. While Mik might have been easy to spot, Kiba's only bright point was his two white teeth, which reflected the black light quite nicely. The ratling didn't seem to notice though, instead focused on keeping up with Mik.

Darsais frowned in concern and took a few steps closer to her teammates. Their "fearless leader" looked to be in pain, and as the fog cleared she realized that it seemed to be due to the extra harness that was on the ground between them. She walked up beside them and looked down at it.
Red three, she thought. Who was wearing the third harness when we came in? Was it--
"The little one was wearing the harness," she said to the boys as she remembered. "The one with wings?"
Sometimes it paid to have a computer chip instead of a brain.

"No!" She shuddered. "I told you, go - go away -"
She wasn't sure who she was talking to any more, the ghosts or Bhel. Either way, it didn't work, and she whined and sobbed as she pressed harder on her eyes. Why now? Why here? Why were they so loud? Oh gods, she could see them from through her eyelids, they were touching her -
"Go away!" She howled, quickly increasing in pitch. "Go away! Go away! GET AWAY FROM ME!"
She finally screamed, clutching at her head, and suddenly the arena was filled with a cacophony of shrieking voices mingling with her own, bouncing off the walls, unintelligibly, loudly - and she fainted from her fear and sickness, finally pulled too far beneath the waves, and the screaming stopped as suddenly as it started.
A murmuring began at her side, and Rat swelled and mutated as power suddenly flowed into him. He drew from Mitsu's power, but she was also an anchor keeping his chaotic nature at bay - but now he was fueled, and open... Somehow, he seemed to suck all the light around him away, leaving darkness around him, but his eyes and his teeth glowed eerily bright. Voices could be heard from the vicinity of his body, whispering lowly...

The music in the arena began to warp. For a moment, the bass sounded like a heartbeat - but then it slowed, began to screech, and the voices coming from Rat's body began to mumble underneath the heavy bass.
wHy wON't yoU crY For ME -- ?
The display on everyone's packs flashed twice, then shorted out completely. The lights in the entire arena flickered. Suddenly the fog jets shot out far more than was needed, probably surprising several people, and obscured vision further. The barrier walls began to dent steadily; if anyone could look closely enough, they would see hand and fistprints in the cheap plastic. The exits disappeared completely behind the thick fog, and the bridge up to the upper level twisted repeatedly, the plastic turning white as it was stressed. It was now inaccessible.
We'Re sorry, warbled a voice. NO, really.
Everyone's packs flashed back to life with all the relevant information intact - except for the score display, which was replaced by a percentage. Everyone's but Aylana's, Dustin's, Bhel's, and Mitsu's displayed 100%; Aylana and Dustin's showed 75%, while the twins were both set at 50%. Shai's pack, however, did not turn back on.
Up on the bridge, the thing that was once Rat peered at the little boy, grinning widely, and sniffed him suspiciously. Hands and fingers and arms seemed to press from his skin; they moved blindly at first, but then began to concentrate their efforts towards Bhel. Bits of the creature began to ooze off the sides of the bridge as it spread and became too large for the platform.

Mikhail didn't have time to notice that he was being followed by a ratling; one moment he was sneaking along, and the next...well, everything started to go wrong. Again. Why did something always have to go wrong whenever he was with other Fa'e? Howling, screaming, then nothing...then music like a heartbeat, and screeching and voices. It was like when the lights went out, the place came alive - denting, twisting and fogging up. He had jumped when the screaming started, then fallen still and quiet and confused. Utterly confused. He jumped again when the fog started pumping out, but the general state of '...buh?' didn't yet lift from him, even as he poked the changed score display on his pack.
"What the hell?" It was about all he could come up with at the moment.
