Riley laughed, seeing her blush slightly. "I know you where watching me, and yes, I was as well...sorta. I saw someone inside a usually vacant church, so went inside. That bit with the candle? A little bad, but it was useless. I may have lit the candle of someone with my last name, but I don't know him. Also, I know you where watching me because when I passed you, you where kneeling. When I light the candle, it sounded like someone stood. When I left, still kneeling. On my way out, I saw in a reflection that a music book beside your hand was knocked over." he explained, a bit of a grin on his face. "I'm no stalker, if that's what you're thinking...just a t-" he was about to give away his secret. Being the ladies man he was, he had gotten relaxed around her, because she was quite good looking. "Just a tanner." he lied, covering his tracks.

It felt like she had been there for hours. It really hadn't been that long; thirty minutes at the most. The sun was now high overhead. Delaney could almost swear that the hot sun was bearing down on her specifically. Beads of sweat ran through the dirt on her face. Wiping her brow, she smeared more dirt from her hands.
She sighed and leaned back, tilting her face up to the sky. She wished that whatever would happen would happen soon. She looked out of the corner of her eye down the docks toward the town proper. A guard was making his patrol round through the area. Nothing will happen with him here, she thought bitterly. Delaney herself didn't do well with waiting. She was more into instant gratification.
As the guard approached her, she turned her attention back at looking out over the water. It was a calm, peaceful day. Not so much as even a breeze could be felt. It was common, however, for the air to be still during the day. It was why she preferred the evening hours, as well. It seemed that with the setting sun, dusk brought the gentle ocean breeze from a realm unknown -- a very romantic idea to the green-eyed woman. She had wanted to travel but incidents had made that improbable...
The loud clanking of the metal from what she immediately assumed to be the guard's armor brought her abruptly from her thoughts. She looked over her shoulder expecting to see the guard still walking towards her, but was instead met with the sight of the guard, on his knees, right next to the boarding plank to the Courting Marie. He was only in that position for a couple seconds before slumping over, pulled by the weight of the armor, and hitting the wood with a loud clunk. Delaney stared at the body, her eyes wide in amazement and terror. A large sword pierced through the armor. The blade was nearly as long as her arm. She was stunned, unable to pull her eyes away from the dead guard.
What could do that? It was the only thought that ran through her mind, repeatedly, searching for an answer. She had been thieving for a few years, now, but guild rules forbid killing of any kind, and everyone followed the thieves' law -- at least in this town. Of course there were still murders, but she had never witnessed one. Not to mention that it was unheard of in broad daylight!
Delaney staggered to her feet, still in a daze. She couldn't help but to feel relief that it was a guard, at least, though she still felt sorry for the poor man and whoever his family might be. She honestly didn't know what to do. If she ran, it would look suspicious. If she stayed, it would probably look worse. If she walked casually away, well, that also wouldn't look very good. She looked around. Not a person was in sight. She walked back towards the city, walking around the body but keeping her eyes locked on it. After she was past it, she couldn't help it any longer. She took off in a run, her feet pushing the ground away from her. She stopped once she'd gotten off the boardwalk, and leaned against the cold stone of a warehouse. She sunk to her feet, breathing heavily from the sprint.

Jessica smiled. "Well that's a bit of a relief, knowing that you're not a stalker..." she said, fiddling around with a strand of her hair. She wasn't very good when it came to conversations, especially with people she had just met. "So you're a tanner?" she asked, looking at him. That was the only thing she could think of to say, and she didn't want to be rude by just walking off without saying anything else. A tanner....tans leather right? He doesn't look like a tanner to me...but then again, looks can be deceiving.. she thought.

Riley very nearly sighed out loud. While she is horrible at lying, that was a little too easy. Too close. to himself. "No, definitely not a stalker." he said, laughing. "And yeah. It's a hard job, but it's fun, I like it, at least." As he spoke, one of the cuts he got from the broken glass that had healed on his temple started itching. Conveniently at the same time they where nearing the crime scene of the day before. "Hey, I know it's a little early, and I don't know you that well and all, but do you want to go get a drink or two? I know a good enough bar, at the docks." he said, stopping at the corner that led of towards the broken in building and also the turn to the docks.

"Um....." Jessica said outloud, thinking. She looked around, wanting to explore more, but decided it would be better to explore at night. There would be less chances to actually see her at night. She smiled at Riley. "Okay. Sure, why not? I don't think I have anything better to do." she told him.

Riley nearly sighed out loud again. Thank God- he started thinking, before a guard called out. "Hey! You!" he shouted. He walked towards them, and Riley ushered Jessica towards the docks. He turned the corner quickly, still ushering her around it. The guard followed quickly, and before he was even ready to turn the corner, a hand whipped out towards his neck, catching a less-armored area on the side. He fell limp instantly, and Riley caught him before he hit the ground. He pulled him up to a chair, letting him sit down. "He didn't get a good look at me, just the back of my hair...thank God." he muttered, then turned to Jessica. "What side of the law do you run on?" he asked urgently. "You with the guards, or do you do a bit of five-finger discounting?"

Jessica looked at him. "Well, I'm not with the guards, lets put it that way." she said. She looked at the guard. Geez, what did he do to him? ....Who is this man? she thought to herself.

Riley looked up and down the street quickly. "Er...good. Look, they will probably come looking for us...well, me at least. I nearly slipped back there, when I said tanner. That, was a lie. I'm a thief..." he said quietly, but quickly. Riley looked up at the building they where standing in front of. "Well...I don't think I should endanger you any longer, those guards will be here any minute, and will most likely think you as an accomplice. If you would like to follow me, go ahead, but I doubt you can keep up." he said with a grin, jumping towards the wall, planting a foot on it, and kicking off. He grabbed a windowsill and pulled himself up, grabbed a pipe, and climbed to the roof.

"W-Wait!" Jessica said, running after him. She followed his exact movements to climb to the roof. She grabbed his arm, stopping him from running away from her. "Did you say you were a thief?" she asked, not sure if she had heard him correctly the first time. He said he was a thief right? she thought as she looked at him. If he is... could I possibly trust him?

"Yes, yes I did." Riley said, stopping not because of her grabbing his arm, because that would have never stopped him if he was on the run. Why he stopped was because he was quiet surprised. Before anyone could continue, the clanking of armor was heard. "Down!" he hissed, pulling her down under the edge of the roof. He heard some guards below talking, then the sound of metal dragging on stone. He heard a faint voice say something about the guard being lazy. "You where saying?" he said casually, sitting against the edge of the roof.

"Geez...." Jessica said, sitting across from him. "They're really on your tail..." She looked at him. "So you really are a thief...I should have expected it. When you were following me awhile back your movements were so quiet..." she said, more to herself than to him. "Oh well. At least I know there are more thieves in this town than me..." she added on quietly.

Riley nodded, scratching at his temple, where his cut was really irritating him. "Oh yeah, there's a hell of a lot more thieves here. I met three new ones in the last hour along with half a dozen who live in an abandoned warehouse not far from here." he said, peering over the edge. The guards seemed to have left from the area, but he wasn't going to take any chances. He leaned back against the edge, sighing. He had no idea what he was going to do with the rest of his day. The back of his mind that never payed attention to what he was doing suggested he spend it with this girl, but he shook his head very slightly to get the thought out of his mind.

Jessica smiled, then sighed. "That will make things complicated though..." she said, "Because they can be your ally one day and betray you the next..." I've been in that situation before... she thought, and her mind wandered back for a minute. She remembered working with a girl and the next thing she knew a bunch of assassins were after her. She came back to reality and looked at Riley. She didn't even know his name yet, and she had revealed that she was a thief. You're lame Jess... she told herself.

Riley frowned, shaking his head. "Nooo, not these people. We've known each other practically since childhood. Every one of us knows that if we betray one of us, the rest will hunt you down and kill you. It's brutal, but we've never had to do it yet." he explained. He stretched his legs in boredom. "In any case, what now? You going to go your own way, or you still want a drink?" he asked with a grin.

"Since childhood? That's pretty darn loyal..." Jessica said. She smiled at him. "Well, like I said before, I have nothing better to do, and I really don't know this city very well anyways." she said.
