I started on flute in fourth grade, because it was the only instrument I could think of when they handed me the sheet to write what instrument we wanted to play. When we did the try out thing, I really wanted to play a brass instrument, but my teacher did a really bad job of explaining how to buzz, so I ended up on flute.
Freshman year, after two years of being last chair, I switch to tuba, and haven't looked back since. I'm a tuba player and proud of it!

i played clarinet at first(and completely sucked at it!) so i wanted to change instraments and i wanted to play english horn for some reason but my teacher said i should try oboe first and i fell in love with it!(wow...run-on sentence much?)

i picked mine from a recorder thing back in 4th grade and picked the trumpet becaues of the 3 keys

My old music teacher said that she could only picture me playing an oboe because it was unique, so I asked my band teacher when we were picking our instruments if I could try it (she didn't get it out unless it's requested.) So I tried all the other instruments too, but I could only make a sound out of a double reed. So oboe was one of my only options.

I play oboe in my middle school band only one -_-" fun fun i tought but its an awsome instument i reminded myself and filled meh head with the sound of it itys kept meh goin. well if i were to color my oboe it would be candycane srtiped maybe lime green and pink cause then id stand out more than i usualy do x3

Flute: My band[in 6th grade] needed more Flutes. I was about to do Oboe, but chose Flute. Haven't looked back since. :]
Trombone: Uh.. I asked my BD if I could play it.
Piccolo: My parents wouldn't buy me a Alto Flute for my b-day, so my BD suggested Piccolo. I love it. :3
Tuba:
My BD wanted a Tuba or Baritone player, so I tried out Tuba. I love it. [I start next week. >w<. I play it now too. fyi. :3]

Unfortunately I was young and immature (3rd grade and in a school that didn't have a band) and thought...I thought...*cries* I thought girls couldn't play trombone. gonk So I took up flute instead.
I DID eventually play trombone in high school jazz band. But If I had to play low brass again, I'd play baritone instead. I love that baritone range...low but not too low. I could get adequate sound but the slide turned out to be a bit of a turn off and I became frustrated over not being able to use my fingers.
But flute has treated me well. I'm now trying a variety of flutes...I'm becoming more interested in Irish music now. Plus it's the one instrument that my husband may never be able to play as well as I do. He can play a variety of brass and reeds competently. But for some reason the flute just has him totally stumped. razz

i chose my instrument (flute) because i tink in 4 or 5 grade b4 i started band i went to a concert where a flute played (thats about all i remember) and i like it so much i wanted to play, then later a friend had a flute and let me try to play it well, on my first try i got a sound out and it wasnt that bad ^.^ idk if i was just lucky but it was pritty awesome so i wanted to play the flute and i did and i still love it ^.^

aww some of you guys are lucky to have being gotten to switch instruments crying !
i started playing clarinet in 5th grade [b/c it was the only one i could get a note out of >_<] than in 8th grade i was 1st chair clarinet in a class of 7th graders. [the band director hated me for some unknown reason and kept keeping me in low classes]the director asked me to switch to bass clarinet and i did. the band director thankfully got fired for people quitting alot the next year and i still played bass and got first chair alot when i entered high school.
but the current band director did NOT let people switch instruments unless he asks them to. i wanted to play bari sax or trombone for jazz band b/c we didnt have any and he said no when people asked to learn an instrument for jazz band

I started out o flute (I don't remember why I chose it ^^') and played that for six years, and while I was taking private lessons for it my flute teacher said that it was 'an easy switch from flute to bassoon'. I wouldn't say that I agree with him, but I absolutely love the bassoon and have since given up flute.

I play Clairnet. I was debating against Flute or Clairnet...
My BD said choose anything, so I just loved the sound of the Clairnet, and when I tried the flute I swear, I was so dizzy.

I play the flute.
I picked a color on the rainbow...I don't really want ONE color...I want ALL THE COLORS ON THE RAINBOW!!! biggrin That would be awesome!
My second choice would have been polka dots of either Green and Purple or Red and Black.
