Rey shifted nervously. "Okay, here I go..." she muttered, and knelt beside the base of one sugar cane. "Ill do my best." Her delicate hand reached into the bag once again and pulled out her water. As she poured water onto the soil near the infected sugarcane, she hummed an enchanting tune. As if by magic, the plant lost its strange unnatural color, and began to look healthy. It grew taller and wider, looking a little like bamboo. She turned with a satisfied grin to Rory. "One down. What do you think? Its healthy again."

Rory shrugged, biting his lip critically. "Um.... Okay, 1 down, seventy bejillion to go." He walked up to the sugarcane stalk and tried to break it. It was strong now, and he struggled to break it with his bare hands. "And ...nnngh!" He finally broke it, it was like a sugar cane branch, and he waved it through the air "Perhaps don't make them like this? I can't even imagine a method of harvesting stalks like this..." he mumbled, eyeing the middle of the stalk to check if there was even any sugar in it. "Can you do it in a way where you effect more plants, but effect them all less? We just want the rot gone really..." He suggested, chewing on the end of the stalk bemusedly and awkwardly- since it was as thick as his wrist.

Rey chuckled, "Maybe I overdid it a little bit..." She sat down again and placed her hands on the floor, humming her growing song. Remembering Piopi's instructions, she kept her eyes open, even though it was challenging. A wave of golden light flooded the ground, reaching ten more of the sugar canes. Almost immediatly, all of them lost their rot and became taller than they were before. A few of them started to thicken, so Rey quickly lifted her hands from the ground and exhaled sharply. She looked up at Rory expectantly. "Was that better? I can do more."

Rory grinned and gave her a thumbs up in reply, his green eyes glittering and blonde hair seeming to glow happily in the morning light. "Great! Thats much much much better! " He commented, then looked over at the rest of the field, wondering where his brother was. "Do you know what was wrong so we can stop them getting it again?" He asked distractedly, his eyes still scanning for the movement of the stalks that meant Alex, lips slightly pursed.

((I dont know much about plants... so I made something up sweatdrop ))Rey scratched her head. "I'll try." she felt a withered sugarcane with her hand and looked around. "I think that the problem is just a common disease among plants. If I can cure all of them, that should stop it from spreading. But if I can't get to all of them... you should probably cut down that tree over there." She motioned toward an old sick-looking oak tree by the dirt road. "That is where the disease came from, and its blocking some of the sugarcanes from getting sunlight."

Rory gave her a huge grin and made a move towards her as if to hug her, but stopped after a split second and just stood there. "WOW! Thats really great! You see, we've always had trouble growing crops in this field, and we thought sugar cane would be the easiest to keep healthy, but it fell sick too, and now we know what the problem is..." He was so happy he could barely finish his sentences, so instead he punched the air in a happy gesture. "Just, great. We'll get rid of that tree as soon as we can. Well once you're finished here we can move to the other crops.." He assured her and stated, then yelled out to his little brother. "Alex! Don't go gettin too far away now!"
Alex had left the sugar cane field and was down in another field closer to the beach, looking at the plants and random bugs, and heading towards the mangroves (they were good for climbing). He looked up and seemed to see a human shape in one of the trees.
Piopi was too busy peering at Rey to notice the small child at first, then his quick movement towards her startled her and she went into a camo mode, hiding behind the tree. Luckily the kid stopped, listened to a sudden call and went back. She breathed a sigh of relief.

Rey giggled and smiled modestly. "My pleasure." she was glad to have met his standards, and began to walk to another section of sugarcane. A few short moments later, they were all healed. She repeated the process over and over again, determined to heal each cane. Every now and then she would grow tired of her song and switch it for another. The melodious sound of her humming rang throughout the field. Every cane she touched with her golden aura seemed to come to life and sing with her. Even the sun shone brighter through its canopy of clouds today. A grin was beginning to spread itself across Rey's face.

Rory just leant against the fence, enjoying the nice sunlight and the beautiful day it was turning out to be. Everything seems more green and happy. It must be because of her... He thought, with a slight smile, then shook the soppy thoughts out of his head. Well of course it does! Shes a forest manipulator. He told himself. Those kind of people didn't have a very good reputation in the town, but he had taken such a shine to her that he could barely believe they were bad like he had been told. Alex jumped over the fence and jogged up towards Rory, giving him a wave. "Is she done now?" He asked bluntly. "I want to go closer to the shore. There was something down there I reckon." he explained. Rory shrugged, not believing the kid but agreeing to go closer anyway. He waved Rey over. "Lets go to the next field then, shall we?" He asked, with a smile on his lips, offering her a hand over the fence.

Rey tossed her hair back and speed-walked toward him. "I'm having so much fun with this." the corners of her lips turned up in a shy smile as she followed him away from the now-lush field. "You should help me." Of course, she knew full well that he couldn't be a forest manipulator, but he could at least water the plants and feel like he was helping. Every moment she was close to Rory, Rey worked ten times harder, smiled ten times bigger, and her stomach filled with ten times the butterflies. He would be good motivation.

Rory helped her over the fence, then scratched his blonde hair in thought. "Well yeah I guess I should, but I'm not great with plants. I work with the animals more..." He gave a nervous laugh and Alex spun around suddenly, grinning as he was eavesdropping. "Hahahahaha! Pig boy! Cow man! Chook sook!" He shouted and Rory growled, chasing after him while laughing. He acted like it was a joke, but the sparkle went out of his eyes, like the dimming of a light for a second, when you can barely tell if you blinked or if it happened. Once Rory had successfully caught Alex and shook him upside down by his ankles joyfully, Alex squealing in fear and delight, they were back on their feet and Rory trotted back up to Rey, blushing slightly and a bit out of breath. "Just forget that, haha.Yeah, so this is corn, or maize or something. Actually I can't remember. But its supposed to be harvested next season and look at the state of it!" He pointed to the thin measly stalks that barely looked old enough to hold themselves up. Alex ran down to the bottom of the field and peered around, searching for Piopi who he had caught a glimpse of before.

Rey couldn't help but grin as she stood back, watching the brothers run around, pretending that she was far too mature for things like that. Her eyes followed his gaze to the corn field, if you could even call it a field. It was measly, to say the least. With a worried look in her eye, she put her hand to the ground. "Do you have any water around here? The soil is pretty dry... so watering it would help a little. I'll do the rest."

Piopi had long gone by the time the child had come back, and was watching from a different location. The big diseased oak was a good lookout actually, with a lot of cover. Rory pointed over about 200 metres. "Well the ocean is just over there... so..." He shrugged "..There shouldn't be many water problems, right?" He shook his head and waved Alex over. That kid seriously had some boundless energy. "Go get us some water." He explained, then sighed as he looked at the feild. "Actually, I better go too." He told Rey, looking slightly sad he had to leave her. "We'll be back soon." He called back at her with a wave as he ran back up the path to town. Once they were out of sight, Piopi jumped sprightly out of a tree and trotted up to Rey as casual as ever. "Hello my dearie! Hows it going? I see you did a good job with the sugar cane! And hows that boy eh?" She wiggled her eyebrows suggestively.

Rey jumped at the unexpected visitor. "Hey! Who are - Oh, Piopi..." she sighed with relief. "Dont scare me like that! How did you even get here?" Her cheeks flushed at the mention of Rory. "What, him? No no nonono! Its not like that. Definetly not. Nope." She shook her head, though her blushing cheeks told a very different story.

Piopi shrugged. "Well, der brain, I got you here, so why can't I hang around as well?" Her eyes flicked up towards the town and she lowered her voice conspiratorially. "Don't tell them though, they don't like me very much." She whispered cheekily to Rey. "Oop!" She exclaimed as her sharp eyes caught the boys on their way back already. "Well I gotta go, Don't have too much fun without me! With Rooooor-eeee..." She said teasingly, knowing she hit upon a nerve when she mentioned him in that way, skipping away, over to the sugar cane field and seeming to blend in straight away.
Rory and Alex trotted up to Rey, slightly out of breath. Alex had spilled a bit of his water and there were little dark splashes of water on the path. "Oki doki, heres some water." Rory said, giving her a grateful smile and putting down the buckets.

Rey, still blushing at Piopi's comment, whipped around to face Rory. "Oh, thanks." she blurted, reaching for the bucket. "So we can, er, start now." Calming down, she started toward the next field, her usual smile showing again on her face. "So, why is it that the villagers here don't like forest manipulators?" She looked over her shoulder at Rory inquisitively.
